Tigo's was our go-to Peruvian neighborhood restaurant but has fallen short in the past year. A year ago prices for chicken with four sides were going for $27.99 but as of today on ChowNow (and other pick-up apps), that is $36.50. Surprisingly in the store, the price is $31.99. We also ordered steak with fried rice. And the meat was incredibly chewy, which made us realize the quality was cheap and inedible. Price on ChowNow was $20.55, in-person store price is $18. Compared to a year ago, this was $16. The mark-up is steep. There has been no chicken or beef shortages. The only saving grace was the yucca fries. We also tipped the workers for picking up our own food. All in all, for a dinner for two, this was close to $70. When I showed the owner the price discrepancy, he shrugged and said "the ownership has recently changed" and they'll take a look at the online ordering prices. I feel Iike this restaurant has been dishonest about their pricing throughout this past year but I have given them chances to change their prices to reflect what they post in-person to be current online. I feel like this is incredibly deceptive. I would not recommend coming here as there are better quality chicken restaurants (to dine in and pick up) in the city. read more

What you'll be most surprised about is that it is not only delicious but a very affordable place to eat. Annoyed that my meal was interrupted by the worker passive aggressively mopping the floor and sweeping AT MY TABLE and banging the chairs around to make it so unpleasant that I leave so they can close early. I get it, I came in half an hour before closing, because I just got in the city after traveling all day and chose to spend money here. But once I got my food, this woman gotta come sweeping AT MY TABLE not the whole other place that's greasy as hell? There's like 20 to 15 mins left? Needless to say I wish I could taste the food when it was hot, but it smelled like her smelly mop water a few inches from me and passive aggressive chair throwing (because apparently it makes you sweep better). Was walking near my house and randomly happened upon this place. I decided to roll the dice and give this place a try. Man am I happy that I did! The Peruvian chicken tasted so good. They give generous portion sizes as well for the sides. I thought my fries were overcooked but I didn't care too much because the chicken was excellent. Happened to walk into this spot on July 4th weekend without knowing what to expect and can safely say that Tigo's is *amazing*. This is some of the best food I've had thus far this summer in D.C. Giovani, one of the chefs, was super helpful in choosing what to get and recommended the chicken arroz chaufa and the yuca side. I've never heard of the Peruvian-Cantonese stir fry technique (which makes Tigo's quite unique) but I can safely say it is 100% worth it. The arrroz chaufa was super filling (roughly two to three meals worth), the yuca fries were perfectly done, and the sauces provided in addition to the order were super flavorful. Upon speaking with Giovani a bit more, he explained that Tigo's is new to the H-Street area but is optimistic about its success in the near future. He explained that he and the other chefs take extra the time to ensure orders are done correctly and that the food Tigo's serves is of the best quality. That alone made our trip to Tigo's special - this is a little spot that is vying to become one of the best spots on H-Street. And Giovani took the time to speak with us about Tigo's journey. I am Peruvian, so I am used to the homemade cooking so I couldn't give it a 5 star for the food. The service was quick and the ambience was relaxing, even though they were blasting Regeton instead of traditional Peruvian music or at least some Salsa. :) We had the Lomo Saltado and it was 8/10 because the fries were super salty. The alfajor was not good at all and the Chicha Morada was in a bottle, not in the traditional Jarra. Aside from the alfajor and the Chicha not meeting my expeditions, I still recommend this spot. read more

I was walking by the other day and saw this place. It looked pretty nice inside I was pretty hungry and I went in to get some food. Good variety of different Peruvian food but I got myself the ceviche and chicken and cheese sandwich. After eating the food I was very amazed the food was amazing and I would definitely go there again. My friend and I went to H street as we were very intrigued by the food scene there. We stumbled upon Tigo's and made what may have been the best decision of our week. I got the half chicken with fries and salad and it was possibly the best half chicken I've ever had. I am from South Texas where when you get a BBQ half-chicken it's almost always dry and lacking in flavor and simply lackluster. However, Tigo's was the exact opposite. The chicken was cooked perfectly and so juicy, but the seasoning is where it shines. Usually when someone serves chicken on the bone, the flavor is only limited to the skin and the meat is most often bland and boring. But the meat on Tigo's chicken was full of flavor and every bite was packed with their seasoning and just begging you to keep eating. However, they don't even stop here. Tigo's also gives three sauces with the orders that just provide another super interesting and intriguing element to the dish. I cleaned every bone I was given just so I could make sure I got the most out of the chicken and enjoyed it to it's fullest. I very much enjoy trying new food places, and I am often pretty satisfied with the food that I receive. However, there is just something that is different about Tigo's. It's not just that the food was some of the best I have ever had, but the environment was also great. My friend and I were not sure of what to order, but Giovanni had an amazing, upbeat personality and helped us figure out what to get. After we ate and told him how amazing our food was, we talked to him again and he mentioned how young Tigo's was and that their main goal wasn't to just put food out quickly and easily, but to devote time to their cooking and really showcase their Peruvian-Cantonese fusion and love of food. Giovanni definitely made our visit to Tigo's memorable and I cannot wait until I get to eat his food again. Definitely try this place out if you get the chance.
