    Lomo Saltado
    Shakira R.

This is my definition of a perfect bite--a little bit of everything. Lomo saltado is this carb lover's dream. It is a popular, traditional Peruvian dish (inspired by Chinese stir-fry). This stir fry typically combines marinated strips of thinly sliced beef steak with onions, tomatoes, french fries, and soy sauce and is served with rice. Rice and French fries - two of my favorite starches married together in a gravy-like substance. How do you get there to grab some? 1322 H St NE, Washington, DC 20002 Parking can be a bit challenging, especially for someone like myself who refuses to parallel park. You can take the circular bus, walk from Union Station, or take the X2 bus.

I've been to many charbroiled chicken Peruvian spots in my fat. You know what...I've NEVER had bad food from any of them!! Can you relate? Well if you can or can't, this eatery doesn't miss the mark!! It's on H street too!?! Let's GO!! . Where I am: @tigoskitchen . Location Reviewed: 1322 H St., N.E. Washington D.C. . Menu Includes: Aguadito-Chicken Soup, Empanadas, Ceviche-Marinated Fish, Steak/Chicken & Cheese sandwiches, Chicken, Steak, or Seafood Arroz Chaufa-Wok cooked Peruvian, Cantonese Rice, Whole/Half/Quarter Charbroiled Chicken, Fries, Yuca-Fried Cassava Root, Salad, Plantains, Rice, & Beverages. . Items Reviewed: Their Homemade Passionfruit Juice ($2.99). STAMP!! Refreshing, & cold...GET THIS!! Their Empanadas (1 chicken, 1 Veggie-with carrots, potatoes, peas, & boiled egg-2 for $6). STAMP the veggie. The flavors blended so perfectly, you wouldn't know it was veggie!! The Chicken was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Big flavor, meaty, & hot!! Their Steak n Cheese (with onions, mayo, provolone and a side of fries $11.50). DECENT. It had all the ingredients, but was lackluster in taste. Their Half Charbroiled Chicken (with Yuca, a side salad, & their chicken soup $13.99). The Chicken...STAMP!! Well cooked & seasoned, this chicken was juicy!! The Yuca...STAMP!! Fresh out the fryer, delicious by itself or dipped in the sauces!! The Chicken Soup...ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! With plenty of chicken, a doable broth, this soup hit!! The Side Salad...NAH!! Extremely disappointing, it was just lettuce & carrots...not even a dressing was provided. Their Green sauce-spicy & cilantro based ($.40). Their Yellow sauce-mild & yellow chili pepper base. ($.40). Both ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Standard Peruvian sauces, good for dipping everything in!! Their Alfajor (caramel stuffed between 2 sugar cookies $3). STAMP!! Deliciousness in between Deliciousness!! . Customer Service: Polite, & Attractive . Online Navigation: Simple . Parking: Rough/Metered/Enforced. . The place of business was well put together and clean. The food came out hot and less than 10 minutes which I was told ten. +++ The only issue I would have is, I sat down and started to eat and noticed. I had nothing to eat with!! No utensils!! Just make sure your customers are well taken care of. More vegetables would of been great being I did not get meat. The price was a dollar difference. I would go back for sure.

    Taco. Very crunchy and tasty

The ceviche is really good, can never go wrong with ceviche, especially if you're going tapas style. You can definitely taste some Cantonese influences. Corazón: Very unique. The beef heart was grilled very tender, and the spicy and tangy dipping sauce was refreshing. I've also never had such large kernels of sticky corn before. Lomo Saltado: Similar to Cantonese black pepper and beef cubes stir-fry, but noticeably coarser. The meat was a bit tough and dry, the sauce didn't coat it well, and it wasn't very flavorful. Chaufa Mixto: Chaufa = chaofan 炒飯 (fried rice in Chinese) A very straightforward transliteration. Similar to Chinese fried rice, it had plenty of wok hei 鑊氣 (wok aroma), which is rare in the US. The beef and chicken were quite tender; however, the shrimp wasn't fully cooked, and you could clearly taste the raw texture inside. Vegetales Salteados: Seasoned exactly like Lomo Saltados, it's even stranger to use it for stir-frying vegetables... It was entirely for the vegetables' benefit; otherwise, it was completely unnecessary. Suspiro: Dulce de leche custard, meringue, and passion fruit glaze, sprinkled with cinnamon powder--it was far too sweet.

The outdoor setting created the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. The food was exceptional. We started with the Scallops a la Parmesana -- Peruvian scallops with aji amarillo anticucheria sauce and parmesan cheese. The combination of flavors was unique, balanced, and beautifully executed. The ceviche was incredible -- fresh, bright, and exactly what I was looking for. I loved the lemon-forward flavor, which gave it the perfect freshness and acidity. The Crab Fusili was another standout. It was a creative and delicious dish, with amazing flavor and a perfect balance that made every bite memorable. For the main course, the lomo saltado truly delivered. The steak was cooked perfectly -- tender, flavorful, and full of the bold Peruvian flavors that make this dish such a classic. A special thank you to our waiter, Tagist, who made the entire experience even better. She took the time to explain each dish in detail, helped guide us through the menu, and made us feel confident that we were choosing the right dishes. It hasn't really bounced back just yet. But I also feel like we are in a bubble too. Our street looks vacant, but once you walk to one end of the block or other, the opportunities are within sight. I have seen this place when I have had the pleasure to drive into work. However, it's not an establishment that I would walk to for lunch. DC blocks can be super long to walk and it can take a while to cross the busy streets. With our event coming up I figured why not. We went with the 40 Person Package from their catering menu. I think they under-describe this. It states it is for 40 people, but the amount of food you receive can easily feed more than that. Especially when it comes with four full pan sized side dishes. Definitely enough food to feed a crew and have leftovers. For our sides we went with White Rice, Plantains, Mashed Potatoes, and House Salad. All the food was received well by our crew and they were pleased to be able to partake in what was left after the meal was done. The White Rice comes with peas and carrots right in it. The Plantains are fried perfectly. Mashed Potatoes were velvety (sadly they appear to have taken them off the menu since we ordered). And the House Salad was a light side to rest of the rich food. What was over the top here was the delivery of the food. This was two weeks post snowstorm and the streets of DC were still mini mountains to climb. Our delivery person was amazing with the delivery. He, however, had the mishap of the mashed potatoes deciding to ditch before being delivered. He was very apologetic, cleaned it off the sidewalk outside, and went back to the restaurant to bring a fresh tray. That is superb service in my mind.

The chicken was my biggest disappointment. I was expecting bold seasoning and flavor, but it just didn't deliver. It tasted plain and didn't really stand out in any way. The sauces helped a little and added some flavor, but even with that, it still didn't feel like enough to justify the price. The Peruvian rice was also pretty plain and didn't add much to the meal. For something that cost just under $20, I expected a lot more flavor and overall satisfaction. Based on this experience, I highly recommend not getting the chicken and rice here, especially if you're expecting strong, well-seasoned Peruvian flavors. Maybe other items on the menu taste better, but this particular combo was underwhelming to say the least.

The food was average at best and significantly overpriced for the quality. We paid $30 each for ají de gallina and arroz con pollo--both dishes lacked depth and were nowhere near worth that price point. The ceviche ($27) was bland and underwhelming, missing the brightness and flavor you expect from a staple like this. Even the chicha morada felt like a stretch at an extra $10. The issues weren't limited to Peruvian dishes. The kafta sandwich was dry and completely lacking flavor, and a simple salad my wife ordered came with poorly seasoned dressing. Overall, the kitchen seemed to miss the mark on both sides of the fusion concept. To make matters worse, two classic Peruvian dishes--anticuchos and jalea mixta--were unavailable. The explanation given was that they had run out after Saturday night service, which is hard to justify when we visited at 1:30 PM on a Sunday. The restaurant was nearly empty at that time, which in hindsight should have been a warning sign. All in, we spent $225 for a family of four including tip, which is more than double what the experience was worth. I would rate this place 2 out of 5 stars and would not return.
