Thai fried rice with shrimp and spring rolls
    Ashlee S.

Perfect lunch spot! After a long visit at the urgent care down the street, we were in need of a quick but delicious lunch. One of the nurses recommended Sanphan and it's a good thing she did. The lunch specials were what enticed us most about this spot. Each meal comes with an appetizer and there are plenty of entree and appetizer options. I went with the cashew dish with chicken and my mom did the Thai fried rice. We ordered spring rolls as our appetizers. Our server was kind and attentive. We asked her for recommendations but they were quite limiting since she doesn't like curry dishes. The restaurant is spacious and there's a bar which is great for groups and those wanting cocktails. I will say they had the air conditioner blasting a little too cold even for a summer day.

I stopped in for a quick bite and cup of tea and enjoyed all that I ordered. I got fresh rice paper rolls and fried tofu (two appetizers) which were both lovely. It's a cute spot near the Eastern Market metro stop. Service was good and fast!

This place is banging! I had the lunch special for like 16 bucks. I have the this fried rice and it was simply wonderful. The basil and sweet soy sauce was amazing. There was plenty of chicken and for a lunch plate it was more than enough food to crave off hunger. Also, the lunch special came with an additional spring roll that was cooked to perfection. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. The decor was cozy and inviting. Definitely will be back and will try more!!!

Reliable Thai food. This place has been open for years. I have been here for happy hour, lunch, and dinner on multiple occasions. Service is always quick. The food is always reliable and good.

Incredible flavors in the dishes. Pictures were snapped after we starting grubbing and had to stop long enough to show. 5 stars

I haven't been here in a while. I love love love this place. This is an old gem for me. The service is still great and the food is still amazing. I love the feel of this restaurant in the inside. It's super cozy inside. This was my friend's first time and they really enjoyed their meals. We ate from all three of the plates. The drink was delicious too.

I stumbled into Sanphan Thai on a Sunday afternoon with friends after visiting Eastern Market. It was pretty empty when we walked in so we were quickly seated but more people came in over time. We ordered the See Eu Tofu, Panang curry, Veggie Pad Thai and Thai Iced Tea. Everyone loved their food. I personally thought the food was just okay but we all agreed the Thai Iced Tea was amazing! If you're in the area I'd recommend this spot if you want a relaxed setting for lunch or to catch up with friends.

I've been a couple of times recently trying the Green Curry and the Yellow Curry. This trip, I had the Panang Curry. All were pretty good. This is a tasty neighborhood choice. Friendly and efficient service. They do a lot ofntake out judging by the Uber pickups. The food isn't too spicy and the ingredients are fresh. Close to Eastern Market Metro. Parking is street. Give them a try.

My partner and I have always thoroughly enjoyed our meals here. She's always gotten the Basil Tofu, and even as a non-tofu lover, it's been her fav for years. It's always consistently full of flavor and perfectly cooked. I honestly enjoy it a lot myself. Personally I'm a huge pad thai lover and that have a great lunch special $12.95 (plus you get a crispy spring roll). Yum. I also love that they offer thai beer & drinks - makes it even better! I've also had a the pad see ew several times before that I enjoy as well. If you get something spicy and used to it - beware! Thai spice is spicy!! I always miss Thailand when i'm here. the food is fresh, tasteful, and consistent. The service is usually pretty good, but on the slower side inside. Majority of time I get the food to go though. The ambiance is very casual & chill. I'd recommend this place & will keep coming back!

Went to Sanphan on a snowy Tuesday night. The restaurant was actually quite busy, but the service was efficient, and friendly. After ordering, our food came out hot and fresh in just a few minutes. I don't really consider myself an expert on Pad Thai, but this was a great dish and I enjoyed every bite. My wife had the Panang curry and I could've seen myself eating a full order of that as well. We will definitely be back if we are in the neighborhood.

Came here for an early dinner with high hopes and a happy hour deal! The crispy tofu and spring rolls were good but I was honestly not that impressed by the food. It was pretty average Thai food and wasn't that flavorful really either. I got the pad Thai with chicken so maybe a curry would have been a better way to go but it was overall just okay. The waiters were very nice though, we had a spilled drink and they brought us a new one which was nice.

Spotted this restaurant across the street after leaving Trader Joe's. Meals on the lunch menu were still available and everything we ate was delicious, hot and fresh! The vibe is a hole in the wall Thai restaurant but it might be the best I've had in DC in a long time. The service was fast. I will definitely make this spot a regular visit when I'm in the area.

I approach my review of this place thinking along two lines of thought. As a Vietnamese restaurant,…read morethis place is spacious and nicely decorated but very lacking as an example of what Vietnamese food is. More authentic flavors can be found 20-30 minutes away in East Falls Church at Eden Center. Having said that, I realize this place exists in Southwest DC and I should be grateful to find any Vietnamese food at all, no matter how mediocre. Yet even inside DC proper, where there's high-end (read overpriced) Vietnamese food and the standard spots for the everyman, the quality of food here does not measure up. I can think of a few small hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese places near Union Station, along 14th street, and even in Chinatown that have better Vietnamese food here. But if you're in the SW area and not keen on taking a metro ride elsewhere, having this place is better than nothing. Different than most Vietnamese restaurants where you sit down and they come take your order, you're supposed to grab a menu as you walk in and order at the counter. You're given a number and then you sit yourself. There's also a self-serve water station in case you didn't order a drink. It's functional but that level of service kind of undermines the nice decor here, pairing nice visuals with low-end service. However, I never go to an authentic Vietnamese restaurant expecting quality service, so whatever. The food is what I go for. And the food here -- I've had the phở and the bún thịt nướng (grill pork noodles with eggrolls) -- might scratch an itch but is ultimately lackluster. The phở is passable, though the cuts of meat are sparse. Flavor is not the best but it's not horrible either. The grilled pork on the grilled pork noodles however are super dry and I don't feel were made fresh. I feel as if they were reheated somehow. The flavor is off. The texture is tougher than it should be. And the fish sauce, which should pull this dish together and overcome other blemishes if delicious, also falls short. When I got the rice noodle dish, it came with a small portion of fish sauce. I poured it all in to the bowl but somehow every bite was still super dry. I had to ask for a second portion to be able to taste the flavor. But then I realized the flavor was not quite right. Overall I'm glad there's a Vietnamese restaurant in this part of town for times when I'm here and don't want to venture elsewhere. But should I ever really want solid Vietnamese food, I will venture elsewhere.

I stopped by during lunch time to take advantage of their lunch deal and ordered the Pho Tai Bo Vien (eye round steak and meatball) bowl and the Lemongrass Beef Plate. I had the pho and they gave me a lot of the steak which is a plus. Both have great flavor and portions are a good size. Only the Pho Noodles will come with the spring roll for the lunch special, other specials only come with a drink. The spring roll it comes with is veggie with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. They have plenty of drinks to choose from I think it is nice they offer sparkling waters as well. Overall, service is very fast for both dine-in and take out. There is plenty of seating. I would come again to try their banh mi sandwiches.

I sampled a crispy rice salad and some drunken noodles, expecting to eat about half of each. The salad was fantastic, with the light texture of the crispy rice allowing the aroma of lime, chili, and various other flavors to percolate through it. I asked them to hit me with the full spice level for my drunken noodles, and they were venomous, even once I had gotten used to them. The people were preparing some spice trays to be used for ad hoc seasoning, but I had no need of any further chili. A Thai iced tea with lychee I thought was going to be a milk tea, as the term Thai iced tea normally connotes, but it was in fact just tea with fruit. Still good though, and it came with one full lychee. Some of the other people eating around me noted that they planned on leftovers and instead ate everything they got, a comment that the portions aren't huge but also that the flavors are captivating. I finished mine too.

Was seated by a delightful young lady, and found the decor and layout to be quite pleasing; modest by elegant. As for the fare, it was indeed quite worth the walk. Ordered a bowl of Tom Yum and the Pad Thai Mun Goong. The Tom Yum was solid and quite flavorful, a flux of tangy lemongrass with the oniony sweetness of steeped scallions, and enoki mushrooms to provide some heartiness. The Pad Thai Mun Goong was a chef specialty pad Thai made with stir fried rice noodle, prawns shrimp tomalley oil (a crucial element for this version), egg and bean sprouts, naturally topped with green onions, peanuts and a lime for squeezing, and this also was quite phenomenal. Savory, sweet, a little tingle of sourness from the citrus in the mid-palate, and the juicy, briny shrimp balancing the dense carbs and rich flavorful sauce. All-in-all, I was well pleased this visit. As this is Padaek's second location, I hope they don't expand too much further/quickly and compromise on quality.
