Went here for a girls dinner on a Friday night. We did not make a reservation and really don't think most would need to. It never got packed which was nice after a travel day for us both! The service was great and the place is gorgeous! Very moody, very authentic. GREAT place for those of us who are Gluten Free not by choice (Celiac). The food was amazing. We definitely both overate considering how good everything was. Sticky rice wasn't my fave but the Pad Thai certainly was! I even ordered it delivery the next night to have for my travel day. I wrote a review about this place six years ago, and since then have come here many times. The food is amazing and so is the ambience. Let me write about some of the new things I've tried: - Fried Tofu : this is bland and just ok. - Roti : delicious. As we prepared for a weekend in DC, this was the first stop upon arrival. We made a reservation to be safe. The time we entered was not busy, but as we started to wrap up more people were coming. It was also a holiday weekend so I would suggest making a reservation. The interior is very grown and relaxed. Perfect for a date night, wink wink! Service was excellent as well. Nice spacious interior though it can get very chilly on cold winter days if you're seated in the part facing the door. I ordered the Kuay Tiew Kee Mao which was well seasoned and had the usual flavors I enjoyed. It did come with semi raw iceberg lettuce which I'm less a fan of. Stylish Thai restaurant, but food and service have room to grow We stopped by Soi 38 for lunch with a friend in June 2025. The interior was very nice, but the food quality was mixed. The Tom Kha soup was excellent. The duck salad had a strong, weird aftertaste, so we left most of it. The green curry was ok, not five-star though, as something seemed missing from the flavor palette. The noodles were excellent. The "crispy" duck entrée was ok but wasn't crispy at all and tasted more like a Chinese dish than Thai. Service was fast but not customer-focused. I explicitly asked not to bring entrées before we finished our appetizers and soup - common issue in Thai restaurants. Still, the entrees arrived just minutes after the appetizers and soup, leaving us to choose what to eat before it got cold. The interior and ambience were stylish and pleasant - not like a typical hole-in-the-wall Thai spots you often find in NYC. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars and hope they read this review and improve. It felt like the potential was there, and they could elevate both the food and the service. Food ordered Yum Ped Yang (Roasted duck salad) - passable. It had a strong, weird aftertaste, so we left most of it. Some crispiness that balances the texture profile. Shrimp Panang: 5/5 very good curry. Well balanced and not shy on the spice level. Sirloin: 1/5 very dry so obviously more on the tougher side. The sauce was ok butt there is no saving the dry sirloin. Seafood drunken noodle: 4/5 a solid pick. Great savory and spicy flavors with perfectly cooked noodles. Crispy Shrimp Entree: 5/5 absolutely must get. Eat it as soon as you can cause the crispiness goes away really fast. The flavors fight a fierce battle between spicy and tiny sweetness and savoriness. One of my favorites and one of the best Thai restaurants in DC. The inside is spacious and comfortable with modern, simple decor. The bar is great for happy hour. The food is always good no matter if you dine-in, pick-up or order for delivery. It reminds me of the some of the best food I had when I was in Thailand. My favorites appetizers are the Goong Pao, Satay, Kanom Jeeb, Ped Roti, and the Ped Roti. Some of my favorites main dishes are the Kra Prow, Ped Krob Kra Prow, Pad Cha Talay, Kua Kling, Khao Pad Kee Meo and Gaeng Kiew Wan. I like spicy dishes and I've never had an issue them increasing the level for me when I ask. They also have a great drink selection including cold and hot bevies, cocktails, beer and wine. The Thai iced tea is great. The Emperor's Punch and Matcha Green Tea Old Fashioned are two of my favorite cocktails. Service is always great. The staff is friendly and typically quick. read more

We met our nephew here for dinner since this was his recommendation for us visitors. It is a very nice space and it was pretty quiet on a Tuesday evening - not sure we needed the reservation. We started with their tropical drinks - the painkiller was very good but small for the price (no surprise for DC). Second time back here and this time round with a group of friends. I made a reservation for dinner on a Saturday on the day of and had no issue doing so. We arrived 15 mins earlier than our reservation time and got seated promptly. Quite possibly the worst dining experience in DC. The ambiance was modern and had the standard lunch crowd. My friend and I went there for a birthday lunch. We ordered Thai iced tea, pad Thai and pad see ew. The service was not great. I ordered a Thai ice tea with light to no ice. That's where the trouble started. I could watch the bartender making the drinks. Stuffing the glasses with 1/2 ice and topping them with soda or tea so that's what prompted my request and that the restaurant was a bit cold. Nonetheless when my drink arrived it was filled with ice and I sent it back, he looked and me and strained it into a smaller oz glass without the ice and left the rim dripping. Making a reservation on the restaurant website did not work -- the connection with Resy hung and hung, and when it eventually went through there were no reservations for our desired time. But I was easily able to reserve on Google (also working with Resy). On arrival we were seated promptly, but it was much too COLD. We placed our orders -- the beer list was only OK, and got one appetized (dried beef) and two mains, flank steak with papaya salad and Pad See Eew. The food was just as good as when I was here a few years ago, but the service left something to be desired -- TOO much. On our trip to DC this weekend we were in the mood for some Thai food and were just too tired to go out and get anything to eat so we ordered in and quickly found Soi 38 to be one of the better sounding spots, plus all these pictures enticed us even more. I was a little worried at first as some people had mentioned it taking a long time before their orders were ready, however we received ours within a timely manner and everything was still hot and fresh! We went with the Poh Pia Tod, Pad Thai with chicken, and the Pad See Eew with chicken and shrimp. The appetizer Poh Pia Tod was very tasty. A crispy spring roll with fresh veggies inside and the perfect sweet and spicy sauce for dipping! We ordered two main entrees with intentions of splitting them, however once giving them both a try, my girlfriend and I both liked opposite dishes more. I preferred the Pad See Eew stir-fried wide noodles, broccoli, egg, sweet soy sauce, chicken and shrimp. This dish was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy too (mild spice was how we ordered it but could have gone with medium and still would have been tasty). The chicken and shrimp were both cooked perfectly as well, which is sometimes an after thought at other places and can be off putting when not cooked right! My girlfriend's favorite was the Pad Thai with chicken. While the dish was tasty, it was just a tad too sweet for my liking and think we could have gone spicier to even it out a bit. We were highly recommended this place by a friend so we made sure to make reservations. Coming in right on time for our 7:30 pm allocation, there were already a few tables occupied. By the time we left most of the restaurant was full. We tried their pad see eew, kana moo krob, and khao soi along with a single serving of the painkiller. I found the drink to be very similar to a piña colada but even stronger. I thought the pad see eew was on the dry side as it typically is served but even more so. Flavors were well developed in all the dishes however. Pork belly was especially crispy, almost comparable to Chicharrón. The thick curry broth was exactly what I wanted with the egg noodles and crispy yellow noodles on top of the mustard greens and fall off the bone chicken drumbsticks. We were too stuffed to even try their dessert but I'm sure they are phenomenal. Overall, we had a great experience with a kind waitress. I recommend others to check themselves out! read more

With its delicious food, friendly service, upbeat ambiance, and super convenient downtown location, Soi 38 has solidified its spot as one of my favorite Thai restaurants in DC. Starting with their food -- Soi 38 is centered on Thai street food, so in addition to your classics (pad Thai, the various curries, etc.), they also have a couple of fun additions! Despite my excitement over the added variety, I opted for their Kuay Tiew Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles) because I was just really craving it that day...but I will absolutely be back to try out some of their other menu items! While this was the millionth drunken noodle I've tried, Soi 38 absolutely did not disappoint with the perfectly salty, sweet, and spicy sauce, and delightfully springy rice noodles. They included a generous portion of veggies and my protein of choice (seafood, which included several juicy shrimp, squid, and a few scallops). The overall dish was quite sizeable as well -- there was absolutely enough food for 2 meals (or a lil midnight snack after dinner). I also ordered their Lime Ginger Fizz, which was perfectly lime-y, ginger-y, and fizzy -- it wasn't too sweet, and it had a great tang from the ginger and bite from the lime. It was a great drink to cut through the heaviness of the noodles. Beyond the food, the service was phenomenal. We walked in right around the dinner rush on a Friday evening, but the host was able to seat us pretty quickly despite how packed the restaurant was. Our server kindly and patiently explained the various menu items (even though we ended up being basic...), and everything was generally super pleasant, friendly, and efficient. Overall a good experience with tasty food. Would maybe come back. We were able to get seated quickly without a reservation on a Wednesday night even though the restaurant was packed. I unfortunately do not remember the names of the dishes, but for appetizers we got the dried beef and chicken skewers, and then for our main course we got seafood noodles, duck, and a coconut curry.
