I tried the Khao Soi here, although I enjoyed it, it repeatedly reminded me of the red, green and yellow curry mixed together and served with noodles. Maybe that is what the Thai version of this is supposed to be because the Burmese version of the Khao Soi is not that. I enjoyed my meal, the portions were big but it just tasted like Curry noodles. Overall, I would eat it again if I were in the mood for curry. Quick service and the staff are attentive. The prices are keeping in mind the proximity to downtown Chinatown and also the Capital One center. I did see a lot of people stopped before the concert across the street and grab drinks, so it is a fairly popular spot for locals. read more

We were going to a show at Capital One Arena and couldn't find any available tables at all the restaurants we tried, so just walked into this place. It wasn't full when we first arrived but it was packed by the time we left. Guess others had the same idea. We shared the massaman curry, the crispy veggie rolls and I indulged in a virgin mojito with half the sugar. It was a decent meal. We kept having to go ask for someone to take our order and my friend wanted to order an additional appetizer and it was difficult to flag someone down. My sister and I were craving Thai food and popped into Absolute while in Chinatown. This restaurant is cute, quiet, and brings the food out to you very quickly! I got the Basil Fried Rice with level 1 spice. The rice was well cooked and I appreciated the big pieces of onion throughout the dish. However, the food lacked flavor and spice as a whole. Perhaps if I had gotten level 2 spice my review would have been different, but nonetheless this dish was missing something. My sister felt the same with her Drunken Noodles. I had not eaten here for a really long time but after a nearby movie it was time for dinner. The food was really good and had a nice spiced heat. The menu is simple but includes what you would expect from a Thai restaurant. I do like my mango with sticky rice to be riper but the rice was excellent. Their Pad Thai has a little bit of a crispy flavor that other places are lacking and this was a highlight of the meal. Their Massaman Curry is full of flavor and their Eggplant Tofu was also delicious. Their fried banana and ice cream was not what I'm used to, as their fried bananas came in thin tubes, but the food still tasted good. Service was great but the food was just so-so. I hate to compare it with another Thai restaurant, but my friend and I chose this place since they had similar appetizers and wanted a local Thai place. We ordered the Fried Tofu, Curry Puff and Chicken Wontons and were pretty let down across the board. The Tofu was just fried - so no batter to keep the tofu soft and silky. The Curry Puff just had potatoes and curry and not a lot of texture. The Chicken Wontons only had chicken - we couldn't taste any spices or sauce and it was shredded chicken - not minced/ground so they were a little chewy. I do recommend the Panang Curry - plenty of carrot and steamed broccoli, swimming in a delicious peanut curry sauce Their Thai Iced tea wasn't as sweet as I expect but still had a great creamy flavor. read more

I would have given them a 4 or 5 but our food was not even edible for being extremely hot! We told them medium and this must have been an error because the food was beyond hot! My girlfriend couldn't even eat it. It was so dam hot! Lol Food: the Thai fried rice was so dam good but got dam we ordered medium and like I said earlier it was extremely hot and not edible for my gf. I was able to eat it but it was so hot i felt sick after lol. It was insanely hot. I could only imagine this was an error and they gave us Thai hot. The flavor was dam good though. The tiger cry beef appetizer was so dam good. I would definitely come back and try more food but I would be sure to make sure they understand that we cannot have Thai hot again! Place is well situated on a busy street. As you enter becareful with the fromt door so that it does not hit your ankles. Service was good and amicably. Food was tasty and had a delicate flavor, however some of the dishes were missing the Thai ingredients that give its tauthentic taste. The ambience was good and you felt at home. Nice enough folks, but very poor execution. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, a chicken Satay skewer, and the beef Pad Thai. The beef in the pad thai was very hard/tough meat, the sauce was SUPER sweet, and the overall flavors were very off-putting. We didn't even end up finishing the pad thai because it was just outright bad. (Yes I've had a ton of Thai food before, from a variety of Thai restaurants all over the US) I'm aware that depending on the dish and how it's prepared there might be a touch of sweetness due to the inclusion of either coconut milk or peanut sauce. Their pad thai was GROSSLY over-sweetened. Maybe a regional thing - not sure about that but most assurely the most sugary and unappetizing thai food we've ever tried to eat. Tom yum was very tomato-y (think liquid tomato juice out of a can) and mid, at best. The satay was decent, but literally just a stick of barely seasoned chicken. In general, I love Thai food but can't stand sweet dishes. Unfortunately we would never go here again nor recommend it to anyone else looking for fresh, well prepared Thai in the downtown DC area. read more

We were going to the building museum and when looking for a nearby place to eat, stumbled upon Absolute Thai. Its tucked into a corner near the Verizon Center and has a little bit of an odd layout being long and narrow, with a few different level changes. But there was plenty of seating for us. Service was friendly and surprisingly fast with the food orders. The food itself was actually quite good. I had the basil fried rice, and it was one of the better versions of that dish I have eaten in the area- a good portion size, lots of fresh vegetables and just the right amount of heat for my tastes. Unfortunately, I which I can continue to maintain the same good review about this take-out restaurant, however my most recent order today August 18, 2022 was not that good "specifically with the Crispy Chicken Wings with the Chef's special sauce" which tasted like the chicken wings from 7/11 corner store...and the sauce tasted like the regular sweet and sour source that you can purchase from the grocery store; Additionally, I got my standard Nua Sawan and Yum Woonsen Talay, and the quality of both dishes are dwindling: the Nua Sawan sizzling beef portion is getting smaller and the Yum Woonsen Talay came with only 2 shrimps and packed with white lettuce...however both dishes still maintained its tastiness although the Yum Woonsen Talay fish smell and taste is extreme. Last but not least, they no longer provide utensils which they usually place inside the plastic bag along with the take-out food, and that they tie up ever so tightly. read more
