I went to Absolute Thai for dinner and ordered the Pad Thai. It was good and flavorful with the typical tasty Pad Thai ingredients. The beef could have been cooked a little better though. Also, I could tell that the flavor was stronger toward the bottom of the noodles compared to the top. The price ($14) was a bit high (it was also the same price as the fried rice, which is definitely high). The service was decent. We got our food in a reasonable time and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The place had several other tables occupied, but there were still empty tables and the noise level was fine. Overall, this is a solid Thai restaurant that offers typical good Thai food. The prices might be a tad higher than at similar places, but it is probably worth it if you are in the area. read more

Back in 2012-2013, this place was my go-to for Thai Food in the Gallery Place neighborhood. I would stop by before a Wizards game or would host many a team lunch for my office. Fast forward a few few years, and Absolute Thai should now be re-labeled "Absolute Disaster". Where to start? First off, I'll say that this place is still as busy as ever...but I'm not sure if that's because there are only about 20 or so tables in the long and narrow dining room, so it's easy for this place to look "full". During my visit over the weekend, about 1/2 the tables were occupied, but the service was molasses slow. From the time my group of three were seated, it was: - 5 minutes to get water and our drink order - 8 minutes to get said drinks delivered and then to take our food order - 25 (yes 25 minutes) to get our dishes served to our table As for the food itself, I'm not sure what happened between 2013 and now, but the kitchen seems to believe the dominant flavor profile for Thai food is SWEET. Everything from the pad thai, to the masaman curry, to my drunken noodles, were cloyingly sweet. The pad thai was extremely dry and the shrimps lacked any real flavor, and honestly tasted like they had been par-boiled separately and then tossed in at the end right before serving. A proper dish of Drunken Noodles should have notes of basil, heat from Thai peppers, and slight hints of fish sauce and other spices. So imagine my disappointment when I took a bite of my dish and my thick rice noodles were a gloppy clump from over boiling, and the chicken tough and dry. If not for the accompanying spice tray which allowed me to drown my dish in red pepper flakes and chili soaked fish sauce, my dish would have been inedible. So sad since this place used to be really good. But I guess when you are across the street from the Capital One arena and are in a high pedestrian traffic part of town, you don't have to be good - just mediocre. read more

I decided to check this place out on a rainy evening, as it's very close to me. I ordered for pick-up and the food was ready for me once I got to the restaurant! I ordered the Tofu/Veggies Pad See Ew and Fried Chicken Wontons. The wontons were good, but not my favorite. The Pad See Ew was excellent. I loved the flavor and the combination of tofu/vegetables with the egg. The staff was super friendly when I went in and made the process to pick-up smooth. Came here by default our regular place was closed for an hour and seen it a few times. We ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp, spring rolls, Tom yum soup, Chinese broccoli and basil chicken. By far the worst Thai food I've had in DC. The basil chicken has a watery soupy sauce with zero flavor, soup was not seasoned, Chinese broccoli was mainly other vegetables and over cooked veggies. The spring rolls were Decent and the drunken noodles were tasty but not the best I have had and that's why I gave them a 2. Also their staff was nice but unfortunately the food wasn't good enough to come back for good service. Total was $70 read more

This is honestly my one of my favorite Thai places in the DMV area, whenever my friends and I go to DC I always want to go to Absolute Thai. The portion sizes are decent and each dish is full of flavor. There is a variety of options on the menu and the staff is really friendly. We are always greeted immediately. The place is small but there is outdoor seating if the weather is nice. They have a very nice bathroom. My favorite part of this meal was the soup, because it was the right mix of tangy from the lemongrass and creamy from the coconut milk. Their lunch specials are really good for their prices as well. So Absolute Thai was the second Thai place I tried when I first moved to DC. I didn't really enjoy it the first time and thought I would not have come back because I had better Thai food elsewhere. But I was offered a 20% off coupon through GrubHub and decided to try the place again. And I am glad I did, I had a better experience the second time around. Since coming back, I have already ordered twice! Each time I have gotten curry puffs, massaman curry, and Thai iced tea. This is most definitely deserving of a 4/5 star rating. Food is really really good. My girlfriend and I whenever we come to DC for the caps games we always stop to eat here before each game. On rare occasions we'd even drive down all the way from even VA to get lunch and it's always treated us good. The Pad Thai and the Drunken noodles are usually our go to order if we ever get appetizers we always get the wontons which are really good in their sauce that comes with it. Recently we tried their "Curry Puff" which comes with these 3 curry pastry dough things which I really enjoyed with this side of cucumber, onion sauce which made it even better. Kate is a very nice and good server as well as the other 2 gentlemen I always get, I can't remember their names but everyone who works there has always taken care of my girlfriend. They're always hard working a providing the best quality. I take terrible photos but those drunken noodles are the best I've had in the DMV area and if I can find a photo of the pad Thai I'll add it as well but that's another item thats best I've had in the DMV area as well. read more

This place is really a hidden gem IMO. I came here for lunch to-go and got the pad thai and drunken noodles, and the amount of food you get for the price is pretty good! The food was really good, some of the best pad thai i've tried. I wish it was a bit spicier but I can't knock them for something like that. The spot is a bit small but very cozy. The panang curry was really good, the pad Thai was alright, and the pad see ew was good, but not outstanding. The drunken noodles was definitely the best dish we ordered, but if you can't handle spiciness it might not be the best dish for you! Overall though, it was a good experience.
