Sushi Roll Combo Special 2 (pick 5roll)
    Clara A.

Had ZumoThai takeout, we got the 5 roll special. My favorites were the Shrimp Tempura, and Salmon Avocado. The Tuna Avocado was also pretty good, and the Spicy tuna was on the spicier end for me. The fish in the sushi felt good and tasted fresh, but the avocado wasn't the best. Some of the pieces of avocado were a bit hard, and some had a bit of an off taste and a few dark spots, not terrible but definitely could have been fresher. We also had the Katsu Don which was very good! Had a good subtle sweetness and a great katsu breading. Pretty good overall, would return.

Tofu ramen soup - steaming hot and warmed my soul!

The day I stopped into this place was when the temperature in DC dropped from 60 down to 40 and it was windy and cold and it was really nice to find a cozy place to get out of the cold to warm up a bit. I had some late meetings and so lunch didn't happen for me until close to 3pm, which is when I came here. I ducked in here around 3pm, which was probably after the lunch rush and the place was pretty empty except for 2 other people dining. I needed to charge up my phone and the staff here were super nice and put me at a 4 top that had an outlet available, sweet! And since it was quite cold for me (Im from Phoenix), I opted for a miso ramen noodle soup with tofu. Noodle soup was decent, not as good as an authentic Japanese place, but since it was piping hot, it soothed my soul and the boiled egg was very good too! I slurped happily, got my phone charged, staff was very nice and helpful and I was tucked into a cozy, warm place, so I was a super happy and content when I left. Ramen plus tax and tip came to $20, pretty good deal. I'd come back here again to give other dishes a try too.

Came for lunch with colleagues and everyone enjoyed their choices. I had the drunken noodles and it was delicious with a good amount of protein. I also had the tuna and avocado maki and it was made very well and the tuna was tasty. This place is great for lunch. Not great for large groups as it's god a small seating area.

Nice people. Cute little restaurant. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. They had a lot of great things on the menu. There were 5 of us dinning and we were all able to find something we liked. I had the appetizer tempura which came with shrimp and mixed vegetables. I also ordered the Pad Thai. Both were very tasty and portions were large enough for everyone to share. Colleagues ordered a variety of rolls, soups, and other dishes. Everything was excellent.

This is a very small restaurant and if you are not paying attention, you will miss it. It is right before Walgreens and next to a Chinese store. The employees are very nice and greet you promptly. This place serves Thai, Japanese, and a mix of all kinds of Asian fusion. Even though the name Thai is in the name, this is not a traditional Thai restaurant. If you want authentic Thai, this is not the place, more Thai fusion. Food: Got the Pad Ka Prow with pork. The pork was cooked well and a generous amount of pork. I am used to a larger amount of veggies. For sure this has more protein than veggies. The rice was okay, not very fresh. The sauce was very sweet compared to other places and ran a bit too salty. This was the closest Thai restaurant to my hotel and I was having a Thai craving.

Really convenient place near the Chinatown stop. I thought the Japanese/Thai concept was not going to work, but this restaurant does. Ended up getting the pad Thai and it was one of the better ones in the area. Would go back. Also friendly service and very chill vibes

    Special sushi roll. Excellent 10/10.

Really close to my hotel and a very cool "hole in the wall" kind of spot right behind Walgreens. I will go back for one main reason, the service. This is very clearly local and family owned and operated and they were so kind, so fast, and very helpful. The food is good! I had a sushi roll (spicy something special) and it was excellent. I also had drunken noodles which personally, I didn't think were spicy at all. Had a rich garlic brown sauce flavor and chili with what I think were handmade noodles. Very well prepared. I was a little surprised there wasn't a wait and I was the only one there. For the quality and service they should be MUCH busier. I'd definitely come back to try their pad Thai and more sushi. Prices were good for dc and they had plenty of options. Great experience.

I would come back for the curry - it was solid! Tried out a curry that the waitress recommended to me (forgot the name, had a unique name) and it hit the spot! Service was quick, nothing to complain.

Zumo Thai is conveniently located in the Chinatown district of DC. We were out enjoying the holiday market and festivities that downtown had to offer. All of a sudden we were craving some quality Thai food. Neither of us had been to Zumo Thai before but bring it was cold and getting late we were eager to have some food that would warm us up. If you blink you will this place, it is a small unassuming restaurant with an entrance right next to another Asian restaurant. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines but being vegetarian it's been a hit or miss for me since many Thai places use fish/oyster sauce. I wasn't pleasantly surprised to see the menu had a plethora of vegetarian dishes. Nearly all the entrees had a vegetarian option. And I'm not talking about just tofu, although I love a good tofu but eggplant and other options. The food was so good I only managed to snag pics of 2 of the menu items we ordered. Definitely try the Agedashi Tofu appetizer, this is unique and is dunked in a sauce umami/soy style sauce with a dusting of sea weed flakes. The pineapple fried rice with tofu and green curry is what we ordered for our entrees. The plain rice with the green curry was the most perfect sticky rice I've ever had. Green curry was flavorful, yet light and filling. There was something about it; most places green curry feels heavy. This was the perfect touch. Pineapple fried rice was tasty and likely the best one I've had in the DMV! You can taste that they use quality fresh ingredient and the meals are prepared made to order. Don't miss out on this gem if you are looking for Thai in the DMV.

The food was delicious! My server recommended the red curry and it was fantastic. I also got the pork gyoza. Perfect lunch!

To start with the positives, everyone we interacted with was incredibly nice and pleasant. The staff was welcoming, and there was nothing negative to say about their attitude or customer service. However, the overall service was oddly slow. The restaurant wasn't crowded, yet everything seemed to take much longer than expected. For drinks, I ordered a Cosmopolitan and my girlfriend had a beer. Both were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. We ordered the crab rangoons, spring rolls, shrimp in garlic sauce, and the Tom Yum noodle bowl. The crab rangoons were fried perfectly, but there wasn't any noticeable crab in them--just hot cream cheese filling. The spring rolls were okay, though they were extremely greasy, with oil pooling on the plate. My girlfriend enjoyed the Tom Yum noodle bowl, but she wished the egg had been prepared differently. It was fully hard-boiled, whereas we were expecting a softer, more traditional preparation. Unfortunately, the shrimp in garlic sauce was the biggest disappointment. The fish sauce flavor was so overpowering that it masked everything else. I ended up feeling ill and couldn't finish the dish. Another issue was the temperature inside the restaurant. It was extremely warm, to the point that I had to step outside for some fresh air. Overall, the people were genuinely kind, and I can see why others enjoy this restaurant. While I wouldn't personally recommend it based on my experience, I also wouldn't be opposed to returning if friends wanted to go. I would simply order different menu items next time.

We had major indecision because there's SO many things on the menu we wanted to try but ended up getting: Naem khao: 4/5 probably better with the sour pork, but loved how fresh this was. You can really taste the caramelization. And the large shrimp were velveted which was made it extra satisfying to eat. Also a good shareable portion size! Muu Som: 4/5 this was super rich and heavy. Would get this again only to share with a larger group. Loved that it came with sticky rice. Mango sticky rice: 4/5 delicious but in my opinion didn't need the ice cream on top (my boyfriend thinks otherwise though). Very large portion as well. I was a bit indecisive as the menu is pretty extensive, and I've never eaten Laotian food before. Luckily, it was happy hour, so I was able to sample a couple of their appetizers and their daiquiri which was quite strong. I had the Tam Sum, papaya salad and that was very good with a hint of spice and lime. Then, I also had Chuenh Peek Gai, which was tamarind glazed wings. Omg they were savory and crispy! I loved these. For the entree, the bartender recommended some great options, but I finally settled on Kee Mao, which is flattened rice noodles with stir fry beef and vegetables. It was also a very savory dish, with a sweetness to it. Laotian food is very similar to Thai food and I love Thai food. I will not sleep on this restaurant and will be back soon!!

I sampled a crispy rice salad and some drunken noodles, expecting to eat about half of each. The salad was fantastic, with the light texture of the crispy rice allowing the aroma of lime, chili, and various other flavors to percolate through it. I asked them to hit me with the full spice level for my drunken noodles, and they were venomous, even once I had gotten used to them. The people were preparing some spice trays to be used for ad hoc seasoning, but I had no need of any further chili. A Thai iced tea with lychee I thought was going to be a milk tea, as the term Thai iced tea normally connotes, but it was in fact just tea with fruit. Still good though, and it came with one full lychee. Some of the other people eating around me noted that they planned on leftovers and instead ate everything they got, a comment that the portions aren't huge but also that the flavors are captivating. Corn coated in a thin layer of tempura batter, fried until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, showcasing its natural sweetness and slightly chewy texture. It was somewhat like a Chinese yumi-lao玉米烙 but more moist. The most surprising thing was that despite being entirely vegetarian food, it has the sweetness and meaty texture of fried shrimp paste. The sweet and sour sauce is similar to the Thai sweet chili sauce commonly found in China, but thinner. Served in a small cup, it looked like a cup of black tea, making it more refreshing. Grilled Pork Neck: Very different from pork neck in Chinese Thai cuisine; it's more like Cantonese char-siu叉燒. The pork neck was very well marinated and grilled to a very tender perfection, with a rich and smooth honey aroma, and a subtle wine aftertaste, but it was slightly too sweet for me. Nam Jin Jaew was primarily composed of the tangy kick of lime and the savory saltiness of fish sauce, complemented by the mild spiciness of bird's eye chili, the special fragrance of cilantro, and the sweetness of palm sugar, with a subtle hint of smokiness. It was refreshing on the whole, and incredibly layered - I fell in love with it instantly. Tom Saab Soup: It looked light, but it was surprisingly spicy and sour! The ribs were very fresh, all marbled with fat and lean meat, stewed until incredibly tender, allowing you to taste the natural aroma of the meat. The sourness was subtle, clear, and mild, with a base of lemongrass fragrance that added even more depth. My friend thoughtfully ordered it mildly spicy, but in the end, it just felt like it lacked a kick. Mango Sticky Rice: The best mango sticky rice I've ever had! The sticky rice was cooked to perfect texture and warmth, absorbing the coconut milk flawlessly - neither too watery nor too dry. The first taste was the fragrance of glutinous rice, followed by the sweetness of coconut milk, and a refreshing, slightly tart mango to cut through the richness. Thai Iced Tea: Too much condensed milk, excessively sweet. My friend said it was much sweeter than the last time she had it. Was this a change in the recipe, or did the quality control need improvement? The table next to us had ordered 15 minutes before us and was still waiting for their food. It took another 45 minutes for our food to arrive--and that was only because I nudged the staff after 30 minutes of waiting. I've been to many American, European, and Asian restaurants, but none have ever been this slow. Price-wise, the portions were small and the flavor fell short compared to standard Thai restaurants. My husband and I had Pad Thai, seafood Tom Yum, and a platter of boiled vegetables with spicy dipping sauce and sticky rice. The vegetables were overcooked. The Tom Yum cost $30 for a small bowl that could barely feed one person (usually enough for two elsewhere), and it tasted like clam soup with zero lime leaf aroma. The tofu in the Pad Thai was bone-dry and crumbly. To top it all off, the restroom floor was soaking wet due to a leak. On top of that, the restroom was not only soaking wet but also inexplicably freezing, making me feel like I was using the toilet in the middle of a windy ocean. Will definitely not be back.
