A post dinner treat for myself! Van Leeuwen does a great job of advertising online, so when I walked past I was drawn in by the memory and the bright pink of their store walls. Service was exceptionally quick. I was able to try Dirty Chai (specialty flavor), Marionberry Cheesecake, Earl Grey, and Honeycomb and order a scoop of the Earl Grey in just 5 minutes. All of the flavors are quite strong, so I would say try flavors you might like if they were stronger. Overall it was a lovely ice cream experience, but $8+ for a scoop is a bit atrocious, even in DC. read more

I had a scoop of praline butter cake and a scoop of cookies and cream. I tried three other ice cream flavors but wasn't thrilled by any of the (vegan peanut butter brownie honeycomb, bigface coffee affogato, and brown sugar cookie dough brownie). The praline butter cake and cookies and cream were good- very sweet and creamy! The ice cream was fine but the customer service was excellent. Aniya helped us and she was so patient. I am GLUTEN FREE and DAIRY FREE and they have options for both. I ended up getting a brownie vegan milk shake. The ice cream was good and the girl at the register was nice as well. They have the flavors in pints as well if you wanted to buy some to go. The inside was cute and pink. Very aesthetic. It would be good for a cute date or meet up. I'm pretty sure I saw a few. There are a couple of locations. There's one in Adams Morgan and one in Georgetown. The Adams Morgan location does have seating inside and the area it's in there are a lot of places to walk to and go after. read more

We were up for some luxury ice cream to close out the month of July. We first considered getting two cones, but instead focused on the pre-made quart of chocolate chip cookie dough. Besides we didn't really have the time to stay at the ice cream parlor. Although it seems pretty chill inside, and there are plenty of places to sit. The service was fast and heerful and the small line moved quickly. I wish we could get ice cream here all of the time, but there are calorie intake things that we are focused on, especially during the summer. Good ice cream jere! read more

I got the coffee ice cream and it was super Duper good and it was light and fluffy. The surface was pretty good at the place. They were very fast and they let me try a few samples. If it's a cute little shop and Adams Morgan with a great location and plenty of seating. Service was 10/10. read more

First let me just say this location is on 14th street and the service was SPECTACULAR! I love that they allow you to sample as many flavors you would like. I enjoyed all of the ones I sampled. They offer both vegan and non vegan options and it's sold inside of the grocery stores. The prices are very reasonable and the scoops you get. It smells so good when you walk inside. They have outdoor seating too. It's clean. Love no bugs are flying around inside. Definitely going back to treat my students and kids to ice cream. read more

My first time in DC and I was walking around the neighborhood and ran into this ice cream shop! The place is absolutely adorable. I can't begin to share my excitement when I saw all of the dairy-free flavors! Coming from a smaller city, I'm used to very limited vegan options that are almost always sorbet. Imagine my excitement seeing actual ice cream that I can eat! All of the flavors were great, and I went with the sweet potato and marshmallow. A unique choice that packed a ton of great flavor! I was a bit weary about the price of a small, but they end up giving you a decent amount of ice cream. Definitely worth it and so great that they are open late! read more

Falling short of amazing, this unique brand of ice cream has great taste with some to desire. It does everything right with taste and consistency, but fails to capture my interest. I ask myself why this ice cream shop and not the others down the street. The price was pretty high and the flavors were there, but I felt I was paying more for a brand name rather than costumer experience, ambiance of place, or uniqueness. I think I might have expected more give this brand is really good from the store. I do recommend checking them out and seeing it in person. So happy to have a new ice cream spot in Adams Morgan! I stopped by after happy hour one day and I'm so happy I did. I had never had Van Leeuwen ice cream but I knew they had some high quality flavors to offer. There was a line but it went by quickly. Staff were super friendly and patient as I sampled a couple flavors. I landed on honeycomb and earl grey - both AMAZING! I ended up taking a pint of earl grey home with me. Zero regrets! Stopped while on a date with the Mrs. While I don't consider myself an ice cream connoisseur- this is good ice cream! Creamy, smooth, decadent and delicious. The venue is quite spacious and was surprisingly empty, but you will not hear me complaining as I loved the opportunity to peruse their selections without feeling like I was holding up the line. Van Leeuwen is a New York-based ice cream company that has just opened up a few outposts in DC. I was really happy to see them open one in Adams Morgan, about a mile from my home. I went on a Saturday, as my boyfriend and I wanted to grab dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and then get dessert at Van Leeuwen, just up the street. The store seems designed to minimize crowding in front of the ice cream counter, and there's more seating here than in some locations I've been to. (There's also a streeterie outside, but I suspect that's for another restaurant and not for patrons of Van Leeuwen.) It also appears to offer more vegan options than other locations, but that could be their changing menu. The vegan options are made from cashew and/or oat milk, which provides a certain creaminess that may be lacking in other plant milks. Like all Van Leeuwen locations, there are also pints of ice cream and ice cream bars available for purchase, so bring a cooler with you. Because of this, Van Leeuwen is rapidly becoming one of my favorite ice cream places. read more

It was not open when they said it would be on 4/5 at 11. It was dark inside so don't think they planned to be open. No sign on the door or anything. A very good ice cream store. I went here on a recent weekend afternoon when there was no line and got a double scoop of pumpkin cheesecake and peanut butter crisp. The sugar cookie dough pieces were soft and not too sweet. The brown sugar and brownie tasted slightly cakey. The combination was fine but not very unique. We visited Van Leeuwen on a chilly Sunday with a sweet-tooth and hankering for some quality ice cream. Suffice to say we were not disappointed. The interior is bright, welcoming, and we were allowed to sample multiple types of ice cream in order to make our final selections. They have a large variety of flavors available in the case, as well as to go pints of all the classic Van Leeuwen flavors. There were also 4-5 vegan/dairy-free options, which you typically don't see in an ice cream shop. I got the Planet Earth ice cream, which was a vegan ice cream made with spirulina tea and chunks of matcha cake. The ice cream was extremely creamy for a vegan dessert, and the matcha came through super strongly. It was unique and delicious! My partner got the Coffee Affogato flavor as a milkshake. This was absolutely phenomenal: rich, creamy, but not too sweet or heavy as milkshakes tend to be. Our only complaint was the pricing. My single scoop was $9, his milkshake was $11 (the milkshake was a pretty good deal in comparison!). Even so, we are excited to return in the warmer months and try some more delicious and unique flavors! read more

I ended up getting a single cup with two flavors: Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee. Both were delicious and had strong, authentic flavor profiles without being overly sweet. Service was quick, and while there is some seating inside, it's fairly limited. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would come back to try some of their other creative flavors. My only real complaint is the no-samples policy, especially with so many unique options on the menu.

This place is great for the seasonal drinks and gelato flavors using local ingredients. My absolute favorite seasonal flavor is the Blackberries and Cream gelato. I ate it so much last summer that I could see the color of the gelato get darker as the season progressed and as the berries reached their peak. I got a few hand packed pints to keep in the freezer but they didn't last long. The mascarpone & berries is my favorite classic flavor. I've been to every Dolcezza location in DC and my favorite is the DuPont location. The baristas are chill and somehow their drinks taste better than the other locations. Not sure how that's possible but I notice a difference. I think it has something to do with how the drink order is entered at the register. At another location, I noticed my DDL latte was entered as a latte with DDL syrup and it was noticeably off. Not sweet at all. When I asked the barista he said there was no DDL button but at DuPont the drink is perfect every time. I'm not usually focused on nitpicking but if I'm paying $10 for a coffee, I expect the taste to be consistent regardless of location. Back to DuPont. This location has decent seating but definitely isn't appropriate for longer study sessions during busy times. There's a large communal table and bar style seating along the front window that is great for people watching (or construction watching). It's conveniently located, about a 10 minute walk away from the DuPont metro. Is Dolcezza expensive? Yes. Will I continue to use my discretionary income on $10 coffee and gelato. Yes, because it makes me happy and it's an act of self care.
