    Esquite loco

Spot inside a little food hall by Capitol Hill. The inside is pretty spacious with tons of seating. I got the esquite loco slice. Very unique and tasted decent. Only rating it a 3 just because it taste like any other pizza. Was nothing special but not bad. If I was in the area I would get it again for not go out of my way for it.

First, I wanted to say that it's been wild to see this area transform in the last 10 years. It was a pizza spot, then another restaurant, and now an eatery filled with multiple small restaurants. I had passed by Slice Joint last week, and said I would come back soon, which ended up being today. I got a slice of the Fun Girl and the Nutcracker. Both are delicious, but the Nutcracker has so much flavor! The pesto is fresh, just the right amount of cheese, garlic, and savory tomatoes. The fun girl is a deep dish, and the Nutcracker is thin crust. They also have great service, as they brought over a carafe of water and a cup for me to drink while I waited for my food to go.

A pizzeria inside a food hall? Doubtful at first, I'm a huge fan. Slice Joint is legit good pizza. They sell pizza by the slice or while pies. Their square pizzas come with the perfect crust- a little crunchy on the outside and very chewy on the inside. The "Esquite Loco" square slice with corn, mozzarella, garlic aioli, parmesan, cilantro, and tajin is so good! Each slice comes with a lime wedge to squeeze on top! For non-pizza lovers, Slice Joint sells salads.

Soo I'm being nosy and stumble across this place inside the Rooster So it's like five different stations Pasta, Sushi, salads, Sandwiches, Pizza & Breakfast You scan the QR code for the section your setting in so the server may bring it to your table So being nosey & a foodie I had to try them out I asked a few questions and decided what I would order.... The White Pizza They have about 4-5 pizzas different topped pizzas that are there to choose from The pizza was good... think of it was fresh out the oven I would have given it an exceptional But it wasn't bad...I would return for the other food choices The set up is nice...definitely a nice place I see this being a good place to meet up at any time of the day

    FUN GIRL, FOR THE WIN!!

Out of nowhere and pleasantly surprised! From consistency to taste, aesthetics and anything around or in between...DAMN GOOD PIZZA! Had the "Fun Girl" on the first trip and will be back for it again. Be sure to venture off and look around while your piece is being warmed up...a really cozy space! Great stuff, folks!!

OMSlice!!!!!! Wow!!!! I'm truly AMAZED & a New Fan!!! This spot is actually in a location with multiple restaurant choices. They even have a bar if you like to drink and a taco place. Who doesn't love Taco Tuesday?! Food is beyond AMAZING!!! Hot, Fresh & Cheesy. The crust is thin, crunchy yet soft & lust in every bite. Definitely close to NEW YORK slices. They have every pizza condiment you ever need which is a plus! I tried both cheese slices (regular & white pizza). Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of white pizza but it was good, I just prefer sauce in my slice. Next time I'm trying their square pizza! $4 per slice which is a steal since most places in DC sell slices for $5-7 & it's not as good. You can also get a whole pie which maybe what we will get next time. The plate are paper plates made out of porcelain/chinaware.... SOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL! Idk why but this just made it more unique & added a touch of glitter! Customer Service is great! The staff is so nice and helpful! The place is extremely clean, nice and it's a nice atmosphere esp all the bright lights and neon colors. I love colors which is another thing that caught my eyes. My only suggestion is to come earlier before they close since the selection is not as wide as I prob expect it but you still have good choices. Overall, I might be here weekly lol but I'm so serious!

    Square Cheese Pie

I was super excited to try the Slice Joint at the Roost, it didn't disappoint! I'm a huge fan of square slices so was excited to try the square cheese. Overall the pizza was solid with a crunchy crust coupled with a thick but airy bread foundation. The sauce and cheese were also packed with flavor, just a bit saltier than I would've liked. Other than that, I can complain! I'm excited to visit again and try an New York style slice! You have to order via the Roost ordering service which was a little confusing to figure out, but their is staff around the entire food hall to help! But pretty much, you find any open seat and scan the QR code associated with that seat. From there you can order and pay for all your food right from the site. There is both indoor and outdoor seating!

    Raw basil pizza

Food is great, service was disappointing. We ordered a half/half pizza and paid extra for toppings, which included basil on the whole pizza. Basil was missing upon delivery (which we paid $4 extra for) , so I went to the counter. Staff clearly did not want to help me. The woman I spoke to couldn't understand when I said we were missing toppings. I showed her the receipt & the toppings list, and she just pointed to the screen and said there was no order. Then she said my order was a takeout. I told her no, we are sitting over there. She said "one sec" and turned her back to me for the rest of the time, talking to her coworkers about me in Spanish (assuming I don't speak Spanish of course). She did not look at me again, I left and returned with the actual pizza to show her what was missing. She said, "oh basil" & proceeded to put raw basil only half the pizza and said "there you go". Why would I want mouthfuls of raw basil? It's supposed to be cooked in for flavor. The pizza was good, but why pay for toppings we won't get. The staff clearly don't care. I shouldn't have to admit I speak Spanish in order to get what I paid for.

As someone who spent the first 18 years of my life in Chicago, I was disappointed with how much Giordano's has changed. Della Barba, on the other hand, absolutely got Chicago-style pizza right. We started with the Caesar salad, and it was outstanding. Honestly, it could compete with the Caesar salads served at some of the best steakhouses. Fresh, flavorful, and one of the best I've had in a long time. The pizza was the star of the meal. It was excellent and would hold its own in Chicago. That's not a compliment I hand out lightly. The crust, sauce, cheese, and overall flavor were exactly what I was hoping for. If someone told me this place was in Chicago, I'd believe them. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Our waitress, who had purple hair, came across as rude, unfriendly, and seemed genuinely annoyed to be serving us. What made it even more frustrating was watching her warmly greet and interact with the table seated after us. Maybe she was just having an off moment, but whatever the reason, it definitely took away from the experience. Overall, I'd absolutely go back because the food was that good. The Caesar salad and pizza are worth the trip. I just hope the service is better next time because the kitchen deserves much higher marks than the front of the house. Food: 5/5 Service: 1/5 Overall: 4/5

The actual time is over 3 hours (and, literally, after the restaurant had closed). I understand that there is pretty much nothing restaurants can do about delivery times with services like DoorDash. But this was one of the craziest and most annoying delivery experiences I've had. (And no, it wasn't the deep dish / Chicago-style pizzas that I ordered. I know those have a long cook time.) And then the pizza was cold and didn't even taste good. That was the biggest thing - it wasn't even any good. Clearly should've ordered from somewhere else. Tried two different pizzas and wasn't a fan of either. Everything tasted off - the crust, the cheese, the toppings. Now maybe it was an off night. Maybe it's better in the restaurant. Maybe the Chicago-style from here is better. I just don't know if I'm willing to take a chance on it again.

Street Parking Only & It's Definitely Hit Or Miss. I Got Lucky & Found A Spot, But It Is Metered So Be Prepared To Pay. This Spot Is Literally A "Side Door" Located On The Side Of Scarlet Oak. Super Unique Setup With Cool Lights That Make It Easy To Spot. It's Different From Your Typical Pizza Place, Which I Actually Liked. Since It Was Monday, They Had Half-Off Pizzas If You Dine In & I Had To Take Advantage Of That. CHEESE PIZZA I Ordered A Cheese Pizza & Lemon Water. This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. The Ingredients Tasted Fresh, & It Was Very Filling. The Size I Got Came With 4 Slices, & Honestly, 2 Slices Was More Than Enough. I'd Definitely Come Back & Bring My Son This Feels Like A Spot He'd Love, Especially If He's Into Breadsticks & Cheesy Pizza. The Staff Was Decent, Though I Didn't Interact Much. The Overall Setup Is Interesting, A Full Restaurant Vibe Inside With This Separate Pizza Concept On The Side. Different, But It Works. I'm Glad I Finally Tried It, Unique Setup, Solid Detroit-Style Pizza, & A Great Deal If You Catch It On The Right Day. Just Have To Be In The Mood For Detroit-Style Pizza.

Speaking of orders, I recently experienced an issue with my online order using the Toast Tab app, and somehow the Toast Tab app (inadvertently?) changed my order pickup dates when I made an edit to the order within the Toast Tab app. Fortunately, I was able to speak on the phone with the WTP's wonderful manager, Patricia, who is a role model for exceptional customer service, and helped me resolve the order mixup. Without her prompt and professional assistance, I could've potentially lost $133 on the Toast Tab app order, which meant I would've had to spend another $133 for a new (duplicate) order. If you're a pizza fan (who isn't?!), I highly recommend We The Pizza! I also highly recommend avoiding using the Toast Tab app, which is temperamental; it's much easier and quicker to just call the WTP location you're ordering from, and place an order over the phone with one of the WTP staff.

My biggest pet peeve about NY style pizza places is that it's impossible to snag a hot slice out of the oven. When the pipping hot pizza is taken out of the oven, it's tucked under the display case. By the time the pizza pie is depleted from the display case, the hidden pizza gets cold as it's finally moved up. The cycle repeats itself...so you can never get a hot fresh slice of pizza. The Garlic Knots were hands-down the best part of my oil! I wish I could order a single knot as I didn't really want 3 knots. While the Chicken and Eggplant Parm are heavily promoted on flyers at the tables, I didn't see them on the menu, it would have been helpful to see before ordering. There's plenty of seating upstairs. Decent neighborhood spot to grab a slice of pizza.
