I came here with my cousin for dinner after an event at the Howard Theater. I had a half cheesesteak sandwich, and it was delicious. I had the basic lettuce, tomato, mayo, and onions with no additional toppings. My cousin had a pizza slice, which she also thought was delicious. Maybe next time I come, I'll try the pizza. So I absolutely love PIZZA and I came to this location last summer and could NOT remember the name. I drove towards this area the other day and that's when I remembered this was the pizza spot!! I came her with my friend and we both absolutely loved it. They were able to put shrimp on the pizza and truly it's better that the other spots around the area. Ever since &pizza got rid of the shrimp I haven't been back and that hurt my heart, so I'm glad this spot saved the day! The staff was really nice and was helpful when I wanted to pick my pizza. The area is a hole in the wall but it's not dirty so that's a plus. The pizza is delicious and I'm so glad I found this spot again!! Pizza Doro is my favorite pizza takeout spot in DC! I have a gluten intolerance and their gluten free pizza is so good. Really consistent and delicious food quality. I've ordered Pizza D'Oro thru Grubhub twice in the last four weeks. Last time, I ordered a 12" Golden Supreme pizza and Jalapeño Poppers. Unfortunately, the pizza was undercooked and sloppily cut.....I had to tear it apart. The jalapeño poppers were obviously frozen, store bought and were bland and cold by the time I got them. To their credit, the pizza toppings and crust were flavorful, and the delivery was timely. This time, I again ordered the Golden Supreme Pizza (14" this time) and boneless chicken wings. The chicken wasn't anything to write home about....it was ok. The pizza was still a little doughy in the center, but was cut better and was downright....beautiful. It was also very tasty. Like Papa Johns, they provide garlic butter to dip the crust in. If they can get the cook right, their pizza will be amazing. I'll give em another try.. :-) read more

We (family of 4) ordered one large one topping pizza and two 12 piece orders of buffalo wings. $45 bucks for this!! WTH? This is a complete rip off. We've sat in Ledo's, ordered this type of meal and had drinks and the bill with the gratuity was nearly $60. The pizza and wings arrived an hour later, wings not cooked to our specifications and the delivery guy charged my kids (teenagers) $5 more than the price we were quoted over the phone. I ordered Seamless delivery tonight and the delivery was quite quick. The pizza tasted great to be honest. Then I found a hair on the slice which I've uploaded here. I called asking for a full refund of my whole order and they claimed they would give me a full refund, then said a driver would be picking up the bad pizza. Waited over an hour, no driver came and no refund came through. Called again and was told this time that they can't issue refunds, only Seamless can (which is a lie, I used to have a Seamless restaurant myself and have personally issued refunds). Then they doubted my story saying only men work there so how can there be a hair. It was a short curly hair clearly baked into the pizza crust. Then they said they couldn't help me and they hung up on me. I called Seamless to ask for my refund (offering to send the photo) and they called the restaurant, and FINALLY a refund for just that item was issued. Waste of time overall. read more

This place... I'm speechless. I came here at midnight on a Friday when I was famished and I must say.. you have outdone yourself. You deserve a Grammy for this stellar performance. I was on the hunt for mozzarella sticks that were fully melty and not hard whatsoever and they DELIVERED. The pizza also I was expecting it to be kinda crusty but there was so much cheese and it was delicious. We split both things among 4 people and it was perfect for a little pick me up. So i got a pizza from here for the first time a week ago and it was a great experience! I think I added banana peppers, green peppers and mushrooms and I could not be more satisfied. I love PIZZA and this spot definitely would come here again. I also ordered mozzarella sticks (also a favorite of mine) and it was also delicious. The food is simple, cheap and unremarkable. I ordered from GrubHub and the delivery driver was abusive. I ordered delivery because I recently had surgery and don't have full mobility. The driver refused to come to the front door to hand me my pizza and drove off after calling me and hanging up. I called the restaurant, and the woman on the phone was very pleasant and sent him back. Once I limped down the stairs to get to the curb the driver hopped out the car and started berating me and pointing his finger at me and saying things like "Look Lady, You are messing with my money" " Its not my job to knock on the door, you owe me for coming back". When I ordered the pizza, I wrote a note asking for the driver to please knock on the door of the upper unit, so don't know why this request was so problematic especially since there was parking available directly in front of my building. I am so appalled by this experience I will never order again, young women shouldn't order a pizza and receive a lecture. read more

To be honest most pizza when delivered isn't that great. This pizza (even at 1:30AM) was delivered quickly, hot, tasty without toppings being sloppy on the pie and the delivery guy went above and beyond since it was "after hours" for delivery at my hotel. I'm not a photographer - but I tried - however the pizza literally looked like someone took hours placing toppings perfectly portioned and the pizza box barely had a "grease mark." Fresh ingredients and thoughtfully baked for sure! The individual who answered when I initially placed my order was friendly and quickly pointed me to the right pizza after naming a few of my fave toppings. I just ordered another tuna sub from Pizza D'Oro and they're back to the same old antics. They haven't changed one bit. I thought things would change after I wrote a review showing my displeasure of a tuna sub I ordered from them a few weeks ago. Even the owner responded to my review, personally extended an apology, and ensured to me that what I received wasn't a representation of his establishment. I guess that apology was either a PR move to make other people think he really cares about the service they provide to their patrons or if he hasn't gotten started on improving the service yet. I will upload a pic of the sub I received and let people be the judge on whether or not they deem the sub shown in the picture as an 'Overstuffed' sub. You can't use the word 'Overstuffed' to describle a sub that's definitely falling short on the main topping. There was more lettuce and tomatos than tuna. Either stop advertising your subs as 'Overstuffed' or simply lower the price accordingly to reflect the amount of food you're actually serving. I can order a regularly advertised 'Sub' from a carry-out spot (who doesn't even specialize in subs) and get more bang for my money. Now the french fries I ordered with the sub were really delicious, but the thing that really ticked me off was that I also ordered a large greek salad. I pull the salad out of the bag and discovered that they didn't put ANY salad dressing packets inside of the bag. Even the bag clearly says BLUE CHEESE as my choice of salad dressing, so I don't have the slightest clue as to why the person who bagged my salad didn't put the blue cheese packets in the bag. Now I'm sitting here with a salad and have absolutely NO dressing with put on it. I don't want to call them back. The streets are blocked and it's raining heavily outside. I refuse to put the delivery driver in harms way just to return back with 2 salad dressing packets. You know the saying 'Fool you once, shame on you. Fool you twice, shame on me'. Absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive this time - yaaayyy!! The mgr. was kind enough to reach out to me after my first visit here. I've eaten at Pizza D'Oro twice since they've opened and have nothing but good things to say. The pizza is delicious and as close to NY style as I've experienced since living in DC. The crust and the sauce is what makes the pizza, and this place scores high marks on both. The sauce tastes homemade and the crust is light and crispy. They're careful not to overpower it with cheese. Don't be fooled by the seemingly standard looking menu, these guys know food. I'm also a big fan of great customer service - and Pizza D'Oro was exceptional in that too! read more

Bought a $1 for $10 off LivingSocial and trekked out to Shaw for a 'za that was a change of pace from Boli's across the street. Despite ordering it for 8pm, I had to wait about 15 minutes for them to cook the pizza when I got there. The service was friendly enough, though. I got a specialty pizza with a bunch of veggies (olives, green peppers, mushrooms, etc.). With the deal it was reasonably priced (about $14) but I think that without it the price would be a bit much for what we got. The pizza itself was pretty good, but not great, and certainly not any better than Bolis across the street. They are probably comparable actually, although D'Oro may have the edge on toppings quality. Still, for the price, I'd go with Bolis any day of the week. (And if it goes without saying that neither place competes with 2 Amys, Paradiso, Pete's, Coppis, or any of the other excellent pizza places in the District if you're in the mood for some non-fast food 'za.) read more

Came here both before and after a night of debauchery at the Howard Theater New Year's Eve party. For what we came for, a drunken feast and a bathroom, D'oro got the job done. It's better than just drunken munchies though, the pizza is definitely delicious. Both times, we ordered a slice, which actually came with two reasonably sized slices for about $5. Not too greasy, not too cheesy, but a good balance. It won't blow you away, but it's worth a try, and definitely a place I'd run back to if I was in the area more often. Everyone working was incredibly nice, as well - they were always smiling, and the delivery drivers waiting outside and bickering to each other made for some playful entertainment. They also have some seating along the windows. Only enough room for maybe 8-10 people, but this wasn't an issue when we were there. read more
