Always crowded and long wait! Food is delicious, service is attentive, highly recommend. (Didnt take good photos because of the lights)

Classically outstanding service and a throwback to the glory days of dining out Great portions You'll definitely have leftover The pasta matrimonia with meatballs and cheese ravioli is my favorite - the meatballs are the size of your fist Some of the dishes are hit or miss but ask for recommendations

We heard great things about this place...so on our last day in DC, we stopped in here for lunch... ...and WOW, the place was so Kitschy (with a capital K)! It was lit all pink with a ton of bunnies (Easter motif) throughout...even confetti garland. It was actually kinda funny, but it was fun-kitschy and welcoming at the same time. We started with the Fried Calamari...which was AMAZING! One of the best I've had?? Can't remember the exact names, but my husband ordered this Eggplant dish and I ordered a Rigatoni w/ Vodka dish (which came with chicken and these 2 big sausage links!). Again, we both devoured our plates! Everything was SO good!! Now I get why this is one of the landmark restaurants in DC. Bravo!

Walked in and immediately saw "aunty" making fresh pasta by hand--such a cool and authentic first impression. Then we headed downstairs into an over-the-top, festive Easter-themed dining space that just added to the whole experience. Wow. This is easily some of the best Italian food I've had in a long time, and without a doubt the most authentic I've experienced in the U.S. Everything felt thoughtfully made and full of flavor. This is a must-visit spot. If you're celebrating a birthday or anniversary, this is the kind of place that creates a special memory. Already looking forward to the next time.

I had no idea what I was in for! The ambiance is everything! If you are looking for a one of a kind experience and huge portions of Italian food, this is your place. They were decorated for Easter - and by that I mean if it could have bunnies on it, it DID have bunnies on it. If you are claustrophobic or hard of hearing - you are not going to enjoy it. They pack you in like sardines and it gets pretty loud. The food is ok, you won't leave hungry. But it's the experience that people come for. Be sure to make a reservation.

I think Filomena is a Georgetown staple and I'm so grateful I was able to dine here and experience some really delicious pastas. The restaurant itself lives up to the social media hype in that every inch is decorated for the holidays. They do not skimp on the ambiance. The staff were very friendly and nice but I did have one tiny complaint. Firstly, the food was amazing Italian. The complimentary bread and olive oil was delicious. We also got a bottle of wine to share and that was good as well. I got the rigatoni with sausage and I ate that for two more meals after! We also tried the lasagna which was delicious as well. My complaint is with the appetizers. We got the fried mozzarella and meatballs. Both were flavorful and delicious and both were probably the best of each item I've tried. Now, the menu description does not state marinara sauce for the fried mozz, but I've seen so many pictures of it with marinara sauce plus I saw other tables getting it with the gravy boat of sauce so I was kind of expecting it. When it came without sauce, I asked for sauce and was told it doesn't come with marinara sauce, just the two on the plate. I say okay, I tried, I eat the fried mozz and it's amazing and I use the marina sauce from the meatballs. That would have been fine, but then my waiter comes to check on us and sees me scraping my last bite of fried mozz in the meatball pan and offers to bring me more marina. Very nice of her, but also very late. I wish she brought me sauce when I asked for it. That's all. That's my sauce rant.

I was told this place is a must visit in DC, so we went out of our way for a quick lunch. The exterior is beautiful and interior decorated from floor to ceiling with everything imaginable; fake flowers and plants, stuffed bunnies, lights. The server didn't have much personality, never tried to make small talk or talk about the menu... I had the spinach ravioli in a cream sauce with peas and pancetta. The sauce was tasty but very thin and ravioli was chewy. Not great. My husband had cheese ravioli with meatballs. Loved the meatballs , lots of herbs and blend of meats; best I've had! The arugula salad had a delicious and tangy citrus dressing. Very refreshing and light. Overall , the experience was fine, I'm sure there are better spots for Italian food but if you happen to be in the area stop by for the meatballs!

They were definitely not on their A-game for this visit, but we still had a good meal. They made us wait for nearly 30 minutes after our reservation to be seated, even though there were at LEAST a dozen empty tables. Short staffed? Server never greeted us, but rather just walked up to see if we wanted beverages. Odd. Ordered drinks and when they arrived, we ordered food - just two entees. The food came out 5 minutes after we ordered it, so no time to relax and settle in with some bread and a few sips of wine. Weird. The food was outstanding, at least. My wife had lasagna and I had the Linguine Cardinale (Lobster Pasta) and they were both plentiful and delicious. Overall, we had a good meal but it was a really rushed evening and ultimately somewhat disappointing.

The vodka rigatoni with chicken was great as was the shrimp appetizer and free bread. The deconstructed cannoli was unusual, but worth it for a try. Tables for two are a bit cramped, but worth it for a meal. It was $148 though for two people.

If you're looking for a dining experience that feeds your soul as much as your stomach, Filomena Ristorante in Georgetown is a must. Walking in during the Valentine's season feels like stepping into a romantic Italian dream. The floral arrangements and festive spirit are truly breathtaking. The Food: * Appetizers: We started with the fried shrimp, which were golden, crispy, and served with a tangy dipping sauce that provided the perfect kick. The texture was spot-on--crunchy on the outside and tender inside. * The Main Event: The lasagna is a masterpiece. It's served with a beautiful contrast of classic red sauce and a rich, velvety white sauce. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente, and every layer was packed with flavor. The presentation was so enticing, it was almost too pretty to eat (almost!). The Vibe: The service was phenomenal; our server Soprano was attentive and made us feel like the only table in the room. Sharing this with friends for Galentine's Day made it even more special. It's the kind of place where the atmosphere, the people, and the pasta all come together for a perfect night.

It's your classic Italian staple in Georgetown with massive portions. Must eat in DC! My husband and I stopped by for dinner during restaurant week. I made the reservations over 1.5 months ago because it's hard to get in. The restaurant is very busy, service is top tier and they decorated beautifully for Valentine's Day. The restaurant week meal was a regular sized portion meal and wow we took a lot home. The meatballs were delicious and arancini was so unique. You have to try it. Free bread with homemade garlic oil- very yummy. Chicken parm was massive. Two huge pieces of chicken smothered in sauce and cheese. A classic done right here. The sausage vodka sauce rotini was great. The creamiest vodka sauce I've ever had. The dessert slice are huge! Definitely can share it. Both were delicious and recommend.

This has been on my list of places to try for a while and I finally made it. It's located near the Capital One Cafe. My friend and I came for dinner on a weekday. We made a reservation online, which I definitely recommend doing as the place was packed when we arrived. There is a coat check, which you may want to opt for. While there was enough room for me to walk between tables, it could be a tighter fit if there were coats on the back of chairs, depending on the jacket. While waiting to be seated, you can gaze upon the dessert display or the decor (they still had holiday decor up when I visited). Bathrooms are at the other side of the dessert display if you need it. It was packed inside and kind of loud. It was the type of environment where there was so much chatter and noise that there is never a quiet moment. You could have a conversation, but you might need repeat yourself. If there was music playing, I couldn't hear it. We didn't wait too long to be seated. After putting in our order, a bread basket with bread dipping oil was served. I'm not sure what the norm for this place is, but I was expecting the bread to be warmer than it was. It was interesting that they served different types of bread in the basket. Nothing really stood out though (like Ozzie Rolls). We ordered the Insalata Di Strawberry as our appetizer and the Tortelloni Di Michele and the Eggplant Lasagna as entrees. Everything tasted great and the portions were large, but there wasn't anything I would experience a craving over. What I have mixed feelings about was the service. After taking our order, we never saw our waiter again. Different people served food, refilled water, and checked in with us (on occasion). However, it took an unusual amount of time for our food to be served after the bread basket and in between the appetizer and entrees. The tables beside us that were seated after us had gotten their entrees already. In addition, the only reason we got the check when we did was because we had to ask the waiter of the table next to us for it. They do have a tradition of serving complimentary amaretto or sambuca with coffee beans. It was nice although not aligned with our personal tastes. I will say that I was stuffed at the end and took back leftovers that reheated well. I wouldn't make this a regular haunt, but would be interested in trying more stuff on their menu - especially the desserts.

Misto Di Mare Filomena
Peter C.

Voted one of DC's favorite Italian restaurants is Filomena, who has been serving up delicious Italian classic dishes and homemade pastas for over 40 years. It's located in Georgetown. I got the misto de mare loaded with shrimp, scallop, clam, and muscles with their creamy lobster sauce which I highly recommend. It's suppose to come with white wine and tomato sauce. This entree can easily feed two. The ambiance is cozy, crowded, and a feeling at being at my grandma's house ( lots of vintage looking decor). During my visit service was slow due to it being crowded, but my server was hospitable. Reservations weeks/months in advance are highly recommended and can be made either on open table or calling in. If you're dining alone or for two, try the open seating at the bar.

Ask the Community - Filomena Ristorante

Do they serve wine by the glass?

Yes, they do

Does Filomena serve cocktails or just beer and wine?

Yes, they have great drinks and actually a great selection of beer

Do they still serve complimentary after dinner drinks?

They did if you order one!

What's the noise level? Is it a quiet, romantic restaurant or an upbeat, energetic one?

This is a large restaurant that requires reservations due to its popularity. And because it is full at almost any time of day, it is vibrant and energetic. The romance is also prevalent due to the decor and the servers are well versed and attentive… Read more

Is this restaurant possible for someone with Celiac's?

They said, they do not have a gluten free menu, but they do have gluten free pasta. For additional information, call them at: 202 3388800

Is it good for a group birthday dinner?

It is about the best place you could do that. However, you will need to call ahead for reservations as it is difficult to show up with a large group without a sufficient amount of advance reservation.

What is appropriate dress for this restaurant?

No real dress code. I've seen people in shorts through suits.

On the website it says you can buy the dry pasta and sauces for delivery to make at home. But on caviar I don't see this option? Does anyone know how to get the dry pasta and sauces delivered??…

You have to call the restaurant.

Is it handicap accessible? I've been a few times but don't recall ever seeing a way for a person in a wheelchair to get to the ground floor.

It's not handicap accessible but I do know the employees will help you out to get to the ground and back out of the building

Do they have outdoor seating? If yes: are dogs allowed?

They do not

Is this restaurant appropriate kids?

It's a very fancy restaurant and the portions are huge. I've never seen a kids menu, so maybe make this a grown up dinner.

Is it possible to get smaller portions of the pasta (for one person)?

Yes - You may be able to find a few of the pasta options on the appetizer menu.

How far out should I make a reservation for two people?

I would do atleast 3-4 days before if u need a reservation on a weekend at the time of your choice.

How to make a reservation online?

You can use OpenTable app or website.

Is there parking at the restaurant?

No but across the street from the restaurant is a public parking gauge.

How is the ambiance? Is it casual, dressy?

I agree with other commenters - you can really go dressy or casual. When I went during the week, there were many large tables of business dinners -- so you'd fit in with standard business casual. Jeans and a nice shirt would also be just fine.

Is this restaurant good for kids? I am planing to go with my 6 month old

Probably not. The space is very crowded and popular at dinner time, and may scare your baby. Plus, I don't think this is a great place for a screaming, or crying baby. Get a baby sitter and enjoy this awesome eatery with another adult.

Would you recommend Filomena for a group of 8 who want to get to know each other/converse? I hear it's pretty loud. Thanks.

The place is loud. I think it depends upon the age of the group. If older no. It is a great restaurant. I would do it with four on each side or even better 3 and 3 with 2 at the head.

What is the evening dress?

Most of the guys have shirts with collars. It says "casual" but my jeans and Nike pullover were definitely in the minority.

Also had the octopus pepper gilda thing. Our server, think his name was Hunter, said that was the most popular main. It was very delicious, rich but not overly so. The martini was nice and came with a side car. Great presentation. When my friend saw the martini she said this makes me feel like i know how to live. History of Present Indulgence 32 yo M presents with spouse…read moreand friend for pre-comedy show dinner at Italian establishment on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. No reservation and sat comfortably at the bar. Physical Examination Food - This place was absolutely delicious. We started with Arancini and Prosciutto e Polenta. The arancini was fried perfectly - crispy outside, warm risotto inside, and sitting in this savory-sweet tomato sauce that I could've honestly just eaten with a spoon (and basically did using the focaccia they give with your meal - which itself was delicious too). The arancini also has ground beef in the center, which adds to the flavor and depth of what is usually just fried risotto. The polenta fries with paprika aioli were fantastic too. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of the fries because there were only 3 to go along with the large plate of sliced prosciutto. The prosciutto itself was fine. Just standard quality prosciutto. For mains, we went family-style and shared three entrees: the pork ossobuco from the secondi menu, the tagliarini with shredded duck, and the cavatelli with rabbit and fava beans. The ossobuco was cooked well, though I wish the braise flavor went deeper into the pork. The truffle mushroom risotto underneath was incredible. Rich, creamy, and the fresh lemon and parsley gremolata on top cut through all that richness perfectly. The tagliarini was delicious, but my wife and I agreed that the duck flavor was a little lost in the rich marinara sauce. It didn't feel like I was eating duck, to be honest. You could've told me that was shredded short rib, and I might've believed you. The cavatelli was probably my favorite dish - those shell-shaped pasta pieces with rabbit and fava beans in a white wine sauce that had this unique flavor I haven't tasted anywhere else. There's a mild gaminess from the rabbit, but it was very subtle. Each time I had a fava bean, it was a fun change of pace in texture and taste as I was spooning this plate down my throat. It was so so good. Portions were generous too, which made the prices feel totally worth it. We left full and satisfied. My wife had a lambrusco spritz that was deliciously refreshing, and we shared some good wine throughout the meal. No complaints. Service - The bartender was really kind and attentive. Even though we weren't at a table, we didn't feel like we were getting second-tier service or anything. They checked on us regularly, made good recommendations, and kept everything moving smoothly. I also love a service that offers more table bread without needing to be asked. And their table bread was this fragrant focaccia, so I could've eaten all of whatever they brought. Ambiance - haven't been to a ton of Italian restaurants in DC, but I loved the vibe here. Intimate, cozy, dim lighting. The wine selection was great too - enough variety to be interesting without being one of those overwhelming 50-page wine lists. I think this would be a perfect date night spot. Assessment A high-quality Italian restaurant with creative takes on traditional dishes, generous portions, and an intimate atmosphere. A strong contender for the Adams Morgan dining scene, where restaurants are lined up right next to each other, and making a choice can be a bit difficult. Plan - Add to recommended restaurant list for DC visitors - Consider for future date nights or a solo wine and appetizer moment - Return to try more pasta dishes or enjoy a happy hour

I reached out on their website to share that we were a bit disappointed as we were there with friends who claim this is one of their favorite Italian restaurants in the DMV, and having multiple bones in a dish is not acceptable. Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way.
