After a weekend of "no good" when it came to the e-gift card not being delivered and a status message of "order is being Held for Review", today (during regular operating hours) I spoke to someone in management who not only took care of the situation and sent the gift card to recipient, but also really listened to my "user experience", apologized to me and the recipient, and - after receiving multiple complaints and issues such as mine - indicated Filomena will change policy to handle e-gift card purchases much better. The food here is absolutely amazing!! The lasagna with the white sauce is next level and packed with flavor. If you're looking for a hearty meal, the chicken parmesan is a must -- two giant pieces of chicken the size of your face! The atmosphere deserves its own shoutout too. Let me start off by saying ..... I really wanted to like this place given that it's such a prestigious and well known establishment, but sadly it was rather a huge disappointment. When you arrive you walk down a set of stairs to arrive in the restaurant. The restaurant is very dark. Some would say maybe it's setting some type of ambience but yeah no. It feels like entering the red light district in Amsterdam. Dark, dim and very red. They have a very large cake display that is quite entertaining for the kids as they can choose flavors for dessert. They had many many cheese cakes of. Offer - cookies and cream, triple chocolate, strawberry cheesecake and so much more. We were seated quite promptly. The tables were probably purchased in 1983 and so were the chairs. They were old , dark and just worn down. We were practically on top of the table next to us and every time someone walked through the aisle they knocked my seat and my son's seat.There is literally nowhere to move around. It feels very claustrophobic actually. The menu has about one billion options. So yeah very daunting. I just asked the waiter what the good ones ( with no pork) and he did a good job pointing some out to me. He also recommended food for the kids as there is no kids menu. So we opted for the fried calamari and caprese type salad as the appetizer and we shared the veal pasta dish. The kids shared the chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce and a side of pasta with red sauce. The food came out literally 10 minutes after we ordered. It was so quick. The fried calamari was not good and I did not eat it. The caprese type salad was 3 pieces of tomatoes with cheese on top - nothing mind blowing. The award winning slow cooked veal pasta was just very very average. The pasta itself had crispy edges - weird. The meat was nice and soft but it was just smothered in this mushroom sauce which literally just ruined the flavor of the meat. The chicken schnitzel was huge and just very average. It was just way too smothered in cheese sauce. The overall food experience was meh and let's just say the portion sizes are so huge that we had many doggy bags to take home. For dessert we ordered a slice of the cookies and cream cheese cake. The kids loved it but once again - huge. We took it home. Would I venture back? Nope. The prices charged does not match the quality you would expected from a similar restaurant. While I respect that hr establishment was opened in 1983 - I think they need a serious update in decor, lighting and food . Pretty average experience. Lighting inside is bizarrely dark. The decor looks like it hasn't changed in 30 years. I had to ask for my chair to be swapped out because it was basically hollow inside. Then we headed downstairs into an over-the-top, festive Easter-themed dining space that just added to the whole experience. Wow. I think Filomena is a Georgetown staple and I'm so grateful I was able to dine here and experience some really delicious pastas. The restaurant itself lives up to the social media hype in that every inch is decorated for the holidays. They do not skimp on the ambiance. The staff were very friendly and nice but I did have one tiny complaint. Firstly, the food was amazing Italian. The complimentary bread and olive oil was delicious. We also got a bottle of wine to share and that was good as well. I got the rigatoni with sausage and I ate that for two more meals after! We also tried the lasagna which was delicious as well. My complaint is with the appetizers. We got the fried mozzarella and meatballs. Both were flavorful and delicious and both were probably the best of each item I've tried. Now, the menu description does not state marinara sauce for the fried mozz, but I've seen so many pictures of it with marinara sauce plus I saw other tables getting it with the gravy boat of sauce so I was kind of expecting it. When it came without sauce, I asked for sauce and was told it doesn't come with marinara sauce, just the two on the plate. I say okay, I tried, I eat the fried mozz and it's amazing and I use the marina sauce from the meatballs. That would have been fine, but then my waiter comes to check on us and sees me scraping my last bite of fried mozz in the meatball pan and offers to bring me more marina. I was told this place is a must visit in DC, so we went out of our way for a quick lunch. The exterior is beautiful and interior decorated from floor to ceiling with everything imaginable; fake flowers and plants, stuffed bunnies, lights. The server didn't have much personality, never tried to make small talk or talk about the menu... I had the spinach ravioli in a cream sauce with peas and pancetta. The sauce was tasty but very thin and ravioli was chewy. Not great. My husband had cheese ravioli with meatballs. Loved the meatballs , lots of herbs and blend of meats; best I've had! They were definitely not on their A-game for this visit, but we still had a good meal. They made us wait for nearly 30 minutes after our reservation to be seated, even though there were at LEAST a dozen empty tables. Short staffed? Server never greeted us, but rather just walked up to see if we wanted beverages. Odd. Ordered drinks and when they arrived, we ordered food - just two entees. This has been on my list of places to try for a while and I finally made it. It's located near the Capital One Cafe. My friend and I came for dinner on a weekday. We made a reservation online, which I definitely recommend doing as the place was packed when we arrived. There is a coat check, which you may want to opt for. While there was enough room for me to walk between tables, it could be a tighter fit if there were coats on the back of chairs, depending on the jacket. While waiting to be seated, you can gaze upon the dessert display or the decor (they still had holiday decor up when I visited). Bathrooms are at the other side of the dessert display if you need it. It was packed inside and kind of loud. It was the type of environment where there was so much chatter and noise that there is never a quiet moment. You could have a conversation, but you might need repeat yourself. If there was music playing, I couldn't hear it. We didn't wait too long to be seated. After putting in our order, a bread basket with bread dipping oil was served. I'm not sure what the norm for this place is, but I was expecting the bread to be warmer than it was. It was interesting that they served different types of bread in the basket. Nothing really stood out though (like Ozzie Rolls). We ordered the Insalata Di Strawberry as our appetizer and the Tortelloni Di Michele and the Eggplant Lasagna as entrees. Everything tasted great and the portions were large, but there wasn't anything I would experience a craving over. What I have mixed feelings about was the service. After taking our order, we never saw our waiter again. Different people served food, refilled water, and checked in with us (on occasion). However, it took an unusual amount of time for our food to be served after the bread basket and in between the appetizer and entrees. The tables beside us that were seated after us had gotten their entrees already. In addition, the only reason we got the check when we did was because we had to ask the waiter of the table next to us for it. They do have a tradition of serving complimentary amaretto or sambuca with coffee beans. It was nice although not aligned with our personal tastes. I will say that I was stuffed at the end and took back leftovers that reheated well. I got the misto de mare loaded with shrimp, scallop, clam, and muscles with their creamy lobster sauce which I highly recommend. It's suppose to come with white wine and tomato sauce. This entree can easily feed two. The ambiance is cozy, crowded, and a feeling at being at my grandma's house ( lots of vintage looking decor). During my visit service was slow due to it being crowded, but my server was hospitable. Reservations weeks/months in advance are highly recommended and can be made either on open table or calling in. I didn't feel like I got to enjoy and linger on any aspect of the meal. The service lacked in tacking away used dishes, which at a small place, at a small two person table made it very difficult. The food: we got the fried mozzarella, the Caesar salad, and we spit the sausage cannelloni. The mozzarella was light, lightly breaded and airy with a good flavor. The Caesar despite being "famous" was just okay. Better once salted, but was missing something. The sausage cannelloni was the stand out. Perfectly cooked. Well sauced. Tasted amazing 10/10. One entree was good to feed both of us. Please note, if you are sharing items; they do not split it which feels like a missing piece when you're paying those prices it should be split. We opted out of dessert. For drinks we both had dirty martinis and they were perfect. The food is plentiful. There are no corners cut here in terms of preparation--the butter and olive oil flow generously. The underground space that's Filomena is a visit to the old world of Europe and its culinary heritage. The vintage interior décor; staff in tuxedos; long-playing orchestral music; and low-level lighting that has a pink cast to it come together to create a bit of a time warp but dining here is both charming and tasty. I didn't find all the dishes to be fantastic however there are delectable stars. The lobster arancini balls with Filomena's house vodka sauce is a superb antipasto. The arancini are large yet delicate; vodka sauce is velvety smooth. My sausage cannelloni main course was underbaked; sausage was just okay. The seafood carbonara has too much going on. Nothing stands out and the sauce is affected by the heavy crush of seafood. Many of the desserts can been viewed in a display case in the front of the restaurant and are all made in-house. The dark chocolate mousse flourless cake is killer. Service is very good; the customer is the king and queen here. There's a strong din in the place when busy, so conversation is hard. A group of us had a lovely memorable dinner here a few months ago in early August. How did i forget to write about this killer spot? The vibes, atmosphere, and food are all the reasons you'll be pleased with this classic italian eatery in the heart of Georgetown. When you enter, you may see an older sweet woman handmaking pasta from scratch. That's when it hit us that we were in for a treat as we sauntered downstairs and got seated at our table (make reservations cause they fill up FAST). Scenery and feelings will remind you of that scene from Goodfellas when they're at that club where Tommy is telling his story and Henry tells him he's funny; "How am I funny!?"; It's got a table lamp, large menus, waiters who serve you wearing three-piece suits, bottles of wine flowing, and the smells of pasta sauces and canolis. Complimentary bread baskets hit the table when you put your drink orders. The breads are a mix of foccacia and wheat loafs, goes well with the table butter and olive oil for dipping. For drinks, we did some ol fashioneds, a couple bottles of house wine, while another individual ordered a sangria and a Briona lager. The ol fashioned and sangria were both smooth and easy to drink. As for the entrees, the portion sizes are humongous so we got to go boxes for those. All of them were perfection. The Risotto Algi Scampi and the Misto Di Marr (Seafood Linguine) were the best of them; the risotto melting in your mouth like butter while the seafood linguine consisted of scallops, shrimp, clams, and mussels in a tasty red sauce. The Sunday Sauce was another good one (especially if you're a meat lover) with the meatballs, pork ribs, and sausage garnishing the pasta. The veal chop is smothered in melted mozzarella with a panko crust and was very tender. Finally the Ravioli Di Chiacchieri is quite rich but comes with plenty of scallops and shrimp. Somehow we saved room for desserts which consisted of the chocolate truffle cake and the cannoli filomena; the cannoli was everyone's favorite although the truffle cake was nothing to sneeze at. Our bill combined (including tip) was about $600, not bad for 5 people. Definitely worth it based on the decor, the food, and the experience. My friend and I visited Filomena for summer restaurant week. I had heard so much about Filomena over the years, so it was exciting to finally try it. You need to make a reservation in advance since this restaurant is so popular. The restaurant isn't that big and they really squeeze you in. Be prepared that it will be a bit loud and chaotic around you. Since we visited for restaurant week, we got to have a 3 course meal. They gave us a bread basket for the table with different types of breads. For the appetizer, I got the mozzarella di caprese. The ingredients were very fresh and crisp. I got the rigatoni con salsicce. They are known for their sausage which were very good. The sauce was creamy. The portion size was very generous, I got to take half to go for lunch the next day. Classic, timeless, perfect, delicious. I have been several times over the course of my life and Filomena's is the best Italian American restaurant in the world. The beef meatballs, sausage, rigatoni, and mixed fruit cheese cheesecake was delicious. Ambience is great as always, nothing more refreshing than seeing your pasta being made on entry by an elderly female, smiling and waving. The lady making the pasta is very welcoming. She waved to me several times. maître D was kind and courteous. The waiter had excellent manners and was attentive. Bussers were all efficient and courteous. Highly recommended! read more

Not my vibe. Host wasn't nice, waiter was decent. Food was terrible except for dessert. So disappointed. Won't be back.

Visiting Washington, D.C., I stumbled upon Filomena's Restaurant--and what a find it was. From the moment you walk in, it transports you back to an old-school Italian dining experience. The warm, inviting atmosphere makes you feel like you've stepped straight into Italy. From the greeting to being seated, the service was impeccable--attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The food arrived fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious, with every bite living up to the restaurant's reputation. It was so good that once we returned home to Fort Lauderdale, we couldn't stop thinking about it... so we ordered it again through Goldbelly. If a place has you craving it days later from another city, you know it's something special. After many years I finally made it! Filomena definitely exceeded my expectations, from the service to the ambience and amazing food. It's hard to find good Italian in the DMV but this place does it right! We went during Christmas and it's definitely worth going during the holidays or just enjoy great service and food! Found this popular Italian gem on Yelp as top local spots located in Georgetown. This place is favorite of locals and the elite famous entertainers. Over 40 years in business we knew we had to give a try and what a treat. Offering a vast menu of popular and non traditional Italian dishes. From the bread and tapenade spread, entrees and dessert along with the kind staff this was so rewarding. The ambiance is the typical Italian flare but not sure why so many American flags or was this from 4th weekend. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner, portions are plenty and they even offer a great selection of decadent desserts sure to please. Only issue was they did have a B rating which was concerning. read more
