We got into town late and went to the closest pizza place to our room. What a pleasant experience. The staff was so helpful with tips about visiting DC and the pizza was fantastic. Had a small scoop of homemade ice cream and it was delicious. I'm glad we started off our trip here. Highly recommend for the food and the atmosphere.
We drove from NW all the way to Capitol Hill because I needed deep dish pizza- haven't had it in over a decade (and no I'm not pregnant lol). We ordered a large with some veggies and a personal with the meatballs, Kalamata olives and mushrooms and BABY!!! The personal pizza was mine and it took me 4 servings to finish it! This thing is SERIOUS, the large fed my family of 6 with 2 servings for my husband for lunch and we also ordered garlic knots and wings. The wings were the only meh of the experience. They were under seasoned, weren't cleaned well, and were definitely fried HARD (DRY). My son complained as he devoured them though and the sauce was good. Overall 3.5/5 for two reasons: 1) the price is very very high- $80+ for one large pizza, one pan pizza, one order of garlic knots and EIGHT wings!!! And 2) there is NO parking. Yes it's Capitol Hill and I get it but it was a little frustrating even though we were able to find a spot to pick up from. The owner was really nice and regaled my husband with the differences between Chicago and Detroit pizza lol. Also, for us it's on the opposite side of DC and it should be a once in a blue moon treat but to me, they do Chicago pizza a credit and I was not disappointed.
Really cute corner shop serving great pizza in any style you could imagine (NY, Detroit, Chicago)! Overall the pizza had a nice undercarriage and good sauce to cheese ratio. Ample amount of seating inside with a few smaller tables outside. Friendly staff and quick service!
My household has had mixed reviews of the food when we've ordered (sometimes very good, sometimes very bad). But I saw rats near their trash, which we haven't otherwise seen in years on the block. They've really gotten sloppy on dumping food waste on the sidewalk and not having sufficient sanitation services. If this is what they have in the front in their business for everyone to see, imagine what is going on behind closed kitchen doors. One curiosity. They consistently throw disposable rubber gloves next to their trash bins nearly every day. See them in the attached photo. They must take the trash out while wearing rubber gloves, take the gloves off, and then throw them right on the ground? Right there, on a public sidewalk right in front of their own place of business. Kinda bizarre behavior.
Waited 15 min for one slice of pizza. Isn't the whole point when ordering a slice for it to be quick because they are reheating a slice? Terrible wish I never paid & waited for a slice that took forever.

Their Meatball's ($14 Three 100% beef meatballs, with marinara, shaved Parmesan, & basil). High quality protein, with savory sauce!! LIKE THAT!! Their NY Thin Sliced Pepperoni Pie ($14 one size with mozzarella, Parmesan, marinara, & pepperoni). A nice crunch, either those cup pepperonis!! STAMP!! I'm pretty conflicted with this place because other reviews are both good and bad. First off, the pizza. We got the Chicago pizza, and while it tasted great and the quality of ingredients was perfect, it was at the same time disgusting. It's a 3lb pizza, but 2.5lbs are cheese. An ungodly amount of cheese. All you could taste was cheese. I can't speak for other style pizzas, but Jesus, I might have an artery blockage after that. The service was decently fast. The gentleman at the counter was super nice and gave the full run down of the menu and ordering process. It's definitely on the expensive side. Toppings are $2 each and you barely get anything. I guess quality makes up for it? The atmosphere is cozy and cute. It's clean and updated. A nice ambiance when it's not overly crowded. I'd try other pizzas just won't ever be getting the chicago style again.
My first time and I was blown away. I'm a huge fan of authentic pizza and have searched far and wide around the DMV. I have to say Della Barba fit the bill! Nestled in a serene section of Capital Hill its a great spot to check out on a pleasant weather day. I ordered both the NY Style plain cheese and the Nonna (a sort of Neopolitan thicker slice) pizzas. Both were excellent, starting with the perfectly crisp and chewy crusts. I literally felt like I was in NY. Kudos to the chef. Finished off with n awesome toll house chocolate chip cookie and warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. that's a wrap! pizza craving satisfied. They also offer the Detroit and Chicago styles which I plan to return for. The staff and owner were very kind and made sure our experience was one to remember. One note: there's not a huge dining area but don't let that deter you or you'd be missing out. I highly recommend Della Barba!

The lack of quantity is made up for with the great taste of the ingredients, the quality of their dough, and the order always being ready at the time stated. A nice plus is having more than one of pizza style to choose from, so definitely try a couple of different crust options if you decide to order more than one pizza.
A small place with about 8 tables. In the east capital area. They have 4 kinds of pizza. Chicago deep dish, Detroit style, nonna's pizza and classic New York thin. With everyone walked in he ( the owner joe) would go into an explanation about the differnt styles, how they are made and the differnce of ingredients in the dough of each. It took about 5 mins, but it showed the love in what he creates. I went specifically for the deep dish. It did not disappoint. The cheese pulled was very impressive. The crust was deliscious. Tomato sauce on top. Hmmm hmmm hmmm!!! My friend had the Detroit style. The crust had like a parmesan crust and you could tell the difference between the Chicago and Detroit. I did not see the Nonna, but I did take home a small new York thin. It was good as well, but I will stick with the Chicago or Detroit when I go again.. I will be going again. The strawberry cheese cake..there are no words to describe. I did not talk at all while eating this whole meal. Back to the cheesecake. It comes in a cup, with fresh strawberry on top. Thick and creamy with a Graham cracker bottom crust. I was so waiting to try this restraunt and so glad I did. Worth the trip to DC from manassas. Definitely an experience and one I will be doing again and most definitely again.

I finally made it to Della Barba in DC after recently trying the new Giordano's, and the comparison wasn't even close. As someone who spent the first 18 years of my life in Chicago, I was disappointed with how much Giordano's has changed. Della Barba, on the other hand, absolutely got Chicago-style pizza right. We started with the Caesar salad, and it was outstanding. Honestly, it could compete with the Caesar salads served at some of the best steakhouses. Fresh, flavorful, and one of the best I've had in a long time. The pizza was the star of the meal. It was excellent and would hold its own in Chicago. That's not a compliment I hand out lightly. The crust, sauce, cheese, and overall flavor were exactly what I was hoping for. If someone told me this place was in Chicago, I'd believe them. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Our waitress, who had purple hair, came across as rude, unfriendly, and seemed genuinely annoyed to be serving us. What made it even more frustrating was watching her warmly greet and interact with the table seated after us. Maybe she was just having an off moment, but whatever the reason, it definitely took away from the experience. Overall, I'd absolutely go back because the food was that good. The Caesar salad and pizza are worth the trip. I just hope the service is better next time because the kitchen deserves much higher marks than the front of the house. Not great not bad. I had one of the large Detroit pizzas for approximately $37 which I felt was a bit steep for the size and toppings. The toppings didn't have a ton of flavor and didn't stretch to the crust but were all in the middle. Ordered take out but had a nice set up inside and outdoor tables on the patio. Seems like a nice neighborhood spot. I'd try other styles of pizza if I was around but wouldn't pick it out specifically read more

Neighborhood pizza shop convenient to Lincoln Park. This place is pretty cute and offers a ton of different pizza varieties- from NY style to Chicago and Detroit. Everything I have had there was delicious but I do wish that they offered pizza other than the "grandma style" by the slice, had your hometown Italian restaurant salad, and served alcohol. We generally take out, but you can also dine in. read more

Ive been looking for a place that sells Chicago style deep dish pizza in the dc area and this place came up. First time eating their deep dish pizza and damn it was really good. Would highly recommend the place if you want to eat deep dish pizza. You can order online for pickup or sit down but I did a pickup order. Owner was really cool. Pickup said it would take about 30 mins, got there in 30 mins and it was ready. Great spot! read more

Went in Sunday with the family for lunchtime. It was busy and the guy (presuming the owner) was pretty rude. Felt like he saw our kids and recommended we do take out. We politely declined and waited for a table. I asked if we can order our pizza ahead of time knowing the deep dish would take time. He stated it was not possible and they don't do that. After about 20 min we were seated. So was a lady next to us. The server immediately brought out her preordered pizza which I thought they didn't do. Needless to say the owner could use some customer service skills especially in cap hill. Pizza was ok. We ordered NY, nonna, and Chicago. Sauce was a little too sweet for my taste and the polenta inside the deep Dish was strange. If the craving for Chicago style hits in the future will be taking my business elsewhere. read more
Wow, just found my new favorite pizza place in DC. Joey is the owner, chef, and sometimes waiter. Great to chat. Love his laid-back philosophy, wish them all the best for this great neighborhood addition. Amazing. You've got four choices, NY, Detroit, Chicago, and Nonna (thick sliced from Long Island, NY?). They offer Nonna by the slice too. For my first trip, I tried the NY pizza. It was big with great flavors, tasty crust, and flavorful ingredients. I'll be back soon for Chicago! I'm told breakfast leads with (amazing) waffles, pastries, and other baked goods. Closed on Mondays and daily 2-5pm. In the first 5 minutes, I heard two reviews from customers walking out, "best pizza we've ever had" and "Amazing, you transported me back to Detroit!" I went with a friend early and was able to get a seat! It's great pizza and service. The owner greeted us when we walked in. My friend suggested we grab a slice. We shared the nonna with 3 toppings. The pizza is varied and you have options. It's not cheap but you pay for quality. With four different crusts options available, we tried the nonna with olive, spinach, and bell pepper. The dough had a bit more texture -- it's def on the thicker side. It's a smaller location. If you're looking to grab a slice and eat inside, be sure to get there early. Otherwise, take out's also moving pretty quickly too. They're pushing pies out the door at a rapid pace. Get yourself one! read more

This is the first time I visited Della Barba. I was on a long bike ride from Kensington. I had always wanted to try Della Barba, but, had not had a chance to before. We were very hungry by the time we got here and I was just hoping service would be reasonably fast and food be great. We wanted to sit outside as weather was amazing and we did not want to lock our bikes. There were only two tables outside which became available. We ordered our food at the counter. Lady who worked there was working all by herself and a cook in the back. She was amazingly sweet, suggested New York pizza and Nonna for first timers. We ordered food and drinks thinking it would take sometime to get our food. She quickly took care of cleaning our table, brought water and drinks and our Pizza was ready shortly after. We were expecting great pizza, but, we were treated to an amazing pizza. I can't recall having a better pizza anywhere else. My complement to the chef and the young Lady who served us (sorry, I don't remember her name). Dalla Barba was definitely one of the memorable part of our bike trip. I tried them during the early COVID days, when they were still operating out of Ivy City, which was very inconvenient. They introduced me to Detroit-style pizza, and I still think longingly of the hot pepper-covered creation that took me several very good days to eat. But I never made it back, in part because the location and hours were so inconvenient. Now they've opened a brick and mortar shop, can they give me the same experience with a Chicago-style pizza? They offer the Detroit and the Chicago in a mini version. You might think that mini means small, but it is no mean feat to take down one of these bad boys. The crust was cornmeal dusted and very deep, and the casserole of cheese and sauce (I added mushrooms, spinach, and garlic for a reasonable charge) was overwhelming in flavor. So tart are the tomatoes, so rich the cheese, that you'll find yourself wondering why anyone would bother going to Chicago. I'll be thinking about this pizza for a while, too. But those complaining of portion size would have a point; while my salad was delicious, I was rather insulted by the size of it and wouldn't bother again. While I got takeout, their new space looks lovely and has a few tables, though it could fill easily. The fork they gave me for takeout hardly made any impression on that Chicago-style pizza. So I do have some hangups, but the sheer quality of ingredients here makes this a winning spot for anyone looking to expand their pizza style horizons. read more

I dined in this location with my family a couple of times (2). The first time I ordered the nonna pepperoni slice and had a piece of long hair in it. I did not want to give it another chance and asked to get a cheesecake and i'd pay the difference (the nonna slice is $7 and cheesecake is $9 I paid in cash so I would've given the other $2). I was met by a lady with long hair who insisted that the cheesecake was too expensive and that I could not pay the difference. After a few pushbacks from her I completely gave up on getting anything edible from that visit. The second time however the food took entirely too long to come out, there is no regard for our time and also no compensation for their mistakes, just crappy food service. I would not visit this restaurant if I were you. The pizza crust is also way too hard to eat (possibly due to overcooking it). read more

Listen... I challenged Jersey Joey to make a pie that made me feel like I was back home in Chicago (West Loop)... he delivered. The mozza is rich, good chew, and melts off the slice. Sauce and cheese are layered well & the crust has a nice bite to it, not too doughy and not dry and tough. The cornmeal on the back did its job as a compliment to the texture and not a messy distraction. That sauce isn't the canned junk it's WELL SEASONED. Not spicy but has the right balance of spices and garlic. A little up there in price... but I attribute that to the zip code more than the ownership. I'll be back brotha. read more
