We had the most wonderful dinner before a show. The restaurant is bright, open and has lots of space for large groups. It was surprisingly quiet for such an open space. We were able to have a conversation without any problem. We ordered a bottle of the Ferarri Brut rose delicious and reasonably priced. Even the reserve wine list is accessible. The Cacio e pepe arancini was crispy on the outside flavorful and creamy on the inside with the pepper being perfectly balanced with the cheese. The arugula, avocado and fennel salad was light, fresh, and a perfect complement to the arancini. Main course was the Ricotta Cavatelli lump crab, tiger shrimp, peperoncino, mint, lemon olive oiL the pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked as was the seafood. The sauce light, delicious and complimented everything perfectly. We asked for some bread to mop the plate it was soo good!!! A delicious Affogato for dessert topped everything off. A perfect, filling but not heavy meal. Our server, Charlie, is responsible for making the meal so successful. She asked if we were seeing a show and promised to make sure we would be out in time. She helped us navigate the menu and provided suggestions when asked. She was attentive, but not intrusive and obviously very skilled at her job. She took the initiative to split the courses we were sharing onto separate plates and it made the meal flow well. We could see that she provided this level of service and attention to all of the customers in her section. We will certainly ask to sit in her section when we return. read more

We've been to North Italia in Gilbert, Arizona and were excited to see they're in Washington DC, also. We went to the DC location tonight with a reservation at 5:30pm. When we walked in about ten minutes early, we were seated immediately and the place filled up quickly. After our calamari appetizer, my husband had the Squid Ink Tonnarelli and I had the chicken Caesar, and we were very pleased. Great dishes with excellent taste and presentation. Our server was amazing and we never wondered where he was if we needed anything, because he checked on us often. He deserves all the kudos possible. SO good!!! everything about this place was a 10/10 experience. the interior is lovely, the servers were warm, and the food is absolutely delicious! there's only one vegetarian pasta option unfortunately, so i ordered the eggplant parmesan appetizer and a side portion of spaghetti (from the kids' menu) to go with it. the portion sizes are HUGE! the spaghetti would feed three children by itself i think, and the eggplant parm was 3-4 large cutlets. it had a nice spicy vodka sauce on it that made it different from other eggplant parms i've had, and it was definitely one of the best i've ever had. i took home a whole second meal worth of leftovers and it was even better the next day somehow. i'm so glad i tried this place! read more

Stopped in for lunch during restaurant week! Had such a great experience, the portion sizes were great for the price. The food was delicious. I got the pesto chicken sliders (ask for extra pesto on the side) the sauce was fresh, chicken crispy and the garlic knot rolls were to die for! The star of the show was the short rib sandwich. North Italia has decent food. We got the Fried Calamari, Spicy Italian Grinder Sandwich, and Seasonal Vegetable Salad. The Fried Calamari was great, served with a mayo-based sauce and marinara. The Spicy Italian was exactly what I imagined, flavorful and spicy. And the Vegetable Salad was really good, even without protein. Lastly, service was amazing too. The staff was sweet and patient with us, when we realized that dining outdoors was a bad idea as the wind kept picking up. Came here with my sister last week after attending a comedy show. 100% would recommend if you love Italian food. The bolognese was probably my favorite since it's heartier and actually fills you up. But it's also full of flavor. I also really enjoyed their dessert options. There was a hazelnut dessert that was the perfect end to our meal. The service was excellent. We had a bit of a mix up when our server misheard our order so he ended up discounting a free entree off our order as a kind gesture. The restaurant was busy, but I wouldn't say packed. There were still seats available inside and outside for walk-ins. It features a bar upfront and an open kitchen. Attire is just casual but the interior feels very much like home. The food was great and flavorful but I wasn't particularly blasted into space by it. It was a pasta dish, so it's either good or bad. It was good. Other than the whole outer dining experience was exemplary. Server was nice and attentive, we didn't wait very long at all for attention or our dishes. Amine L. is a king and gave me a fist bump and he remembered my parties allergies, so thoughtful I could cry. Side note IMO every Italian restaurant should have complimentary bread basket. Even if it was shitty rye or whatever I'd eat it. I feel like that is just a common cultural practice. Give me three reasons why this place is better than Cheesecake factory down the street. At least CF gives you bread and prices are lower and portions are bigger. We were visiting for the weekend from Maryland and wanted a nice place to eat. We picked this place based on the reviews, and we are so happy we chose to eat here. First, the inside is really beautiful. Has impeccable ambiance. Very chill and could hear everyone at the table. Second, the cocktails were not worth 17 dollars. Pretty weak and definitely do not live up to the food. Next, the service was great and they were very accommodating to my niece's allergy. They made sure there was not any cross contamination and double checked on ingredients. Then there was the food. Literally amazing. I ordered the pesto pasta and it was very lemon and basil forward, which I loved. My mom got the fish, and it was glistening from how perfect the cook was. My family also got pizza and the dough was pillowy and delicious. The last thing I want to mention is that the tiramisu was maybe the best I've had. That includes the ones I've had in little Italy in NYC. It was not soggy and they added these chocolate covered crisps on the top to add texture, which elevated it so much. I've had a lot of spicy vodka pasta but this one was up there for sure, you do get a pretty decent portion. I saw another review on here that said the tiramisu was one of the best they'd ever had and I have to agree! It was more of a mousse style but it was sooo good and I'm still thinking about it. Our server was also very friendly and attentive, and nice enough to do separate checks for our whole party. I will say the regular à la carte menu is very expensive, I don't know if I would return knowing there are equal or better Italian options out there where you get more bang for your buck. I stopped by North Italia to pick-up lunch and I'll be back! I ordered the Grilled Bread starter ($10) and it was perfection. It's topped with cheese and herbs and comes not only with good olive oil, but also with a tangy balsamic vinegar. With all the cheesy goodness, crusty bread, and flavorful dipping sauces, this is a must-get. For my entree, I ordered the Squid Ink Tonnarelli ($28) which came in a spicy tomato sauce with shrimp and calamari. The shrimp and calamari were nicely cooked. It's easy to overcook both, but these proteins were still tender. As for the noodles, I like my pasta to be more al dente. With the spicy tomato sauce, the dish definitely had a kick to it. I would've liked some more texture like breadcrumbs, and of course, pass the cheese, please! Overall, service was great! Service was quick and hospitable. Post-pandemic, we celebrated with a few large family dinners there, and each time was absolutely amazing. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was consistently delicious. It truly felt like one of our favorite restaurants. But then... everything changed. On our most recent visit, the vegetarian ravioli was unpleasantly off, and the beef pasta was bland, poorly plated, and completely lacking the flavor we'd come to expect. It was such a letdown that we haven't returned--and honestly, we still feel sad about it. North Italia held a special place in our hearts, and it's hard to reconcile how far it's fallen from what it once was. We're hoping this was just an off night, but for now, we're taking a break and crossing our fingers that the magic returns someday. read more

My experience at North Italia was definitely one to remember. Great food, beautiful aesthetic, and great service! I came here with a couple others, and we decided we were going to indulge! We started with the white truffle garlic bread - it was absolutely amazing! We then ordered our separate entrees, and I got a meatless spicy rigatoni vodka pasta. The sauce was very smooth and seasoned. I took a piece of a breaded eggplant from my sister's dish, and it tasted great in my pasta. We also got a Caesar salad to eat with our pastas, and it was just your standard Caesar salad, so you can't really go wrong with that. For our dessert, we shared a seasonal dessert, which was a pumpkin cake sitting in condensed milk, and topped with toasted marshmallow, pistachios, and a sweetened drizzle. It wasn't my favorite of the night, and I wouldn't order it again. Nonetheless, it was still a great overall experience and I definitely will return! read more

I was back in Washington, DC during Mothers Day weekend. Made a reservation on 5/10 (Saturday) on Open Table for a 7:30pm dinner reservation which was earliest evening slot for 4 people. Booths are spacious. Our server Junior was pleasant. We pretty much ordered the same meals from our last visit. Eggplant parmigiano, Cesar salad with grilled chicken, spaghetti and meatballs which was a special request bc it's not on menu and a margherita pizza, along with a 9 oz. Of Merlot, 2 corona beers and a coke. For some reason I didn't feel wowed with the experience. It was good but not great.
