This place left me with mixed feelings. First off when we went for our reservation they asked if we wanted indoor or patio seating. We said patio so they told us how to go around the restaurant from outside to their patio. We did but then we waited for 5 minutes to someone could come to ask us for seating and staff were around but were going to the tables for orders and acting like we weren't even there. Seems they only have one designated waiter for seating and he wasn't at his "post" cause apparently the other waiters aren't capable of seating people. When someone finally came we said that we were 8 and he said to wait " one second" then after about a minute he led us back to go to sit inside. So that was lost time so I was hoping the food would make up for the bad start. They brought water to the table right away, which I always appreciate and then they took our order. I can't say they were being organized in that aspect either and our waiter was not a newbie so you could say that he was inexperienced so maybe that was the reason. However he didn't get anything wrong. The service was a bit slower than you see at most restaurants, but that is acceptable. As for the food, some reviews claim the portions are large but I guess they have never eaten at an Italian restaurant before, because I would not call them large. They were normal sized., except the garlic bread which was only 3 small pieces. The bread they brought out was amazing and so we're most of the dishes, especially the gnocchi and the burata. But some of the dishes were just ok. I tried a little from everyone to be able to know what everything tastes like. We all tried a little off each other's plate. So if it weren't for the bad start and if all the dishes were like the gnocchi or the burata, this would be a 5 star place for me. Based on the total experience I would say 4 stars. Nice atmosphere, good food, plenty of seating and a comfortable noise level where you can enjoy your meal but also talk with people at your table without having to yell. Not bad; got the meatball appetiser for a toddler and he not only finished it but ate more from another plate. Definitely more of a sample size. I got the lamb shank and it was good; tender but a bit too salty. It's annoying though that the prices outside the restaurant don't match what they actually charge you! We loved Angolo's! We had dinner here our first night in Georgetown and enjoyed it so much that we ended up coming back every single night of our trip for dessert and drinks. The food was delicious, the desserts were amazing, but what really kept bringing us back was how genuinely friendly and welcoming everyone was. By the end of our stay, it felt like our spot. So it has been quite some time since I visited this place, but I am trying to get around to doing reviews for places I have been in recent years. Plus my phot library has so many pictures of food and restaurants, I need to make space. So I think I happened upon this place during an outing in DC. I just remember wanting to check out Sprinkles cupcakes because at the time I was a major cupcake fiend. So in true Yelp fashion, I scouted around for restaurants after visiting a stationary store and a beautiful French bakery nearby. This was in the corner on the street and it just called out to me as what would seem like a good place to have lunch because yes I do or have done solo dates where I would take myself alone out to dinner or lunch because why not? It felt like a restaurant you'd find in Little Italy in NYC. It was pretty slow and empty at the time of day I went. The staff was watching a game on the TV, soccer game possibly or football but they still managed to do a good job waiting on me. They gave me table bread which is always a must. I ordered a calamari appetizer which was delicious. The saice was stupendous. I have a hard time digesting tomato sauces because they give me acid reflux and heartburn but this one did not. My chicken marsala was also so tasty. I mean look at the picture lol and he honored my request to have marsala and mushrooms used for my side of pasta versus another sauce. In my opinion, it was an excellent dining experience and if I lived in DC I would definitely go back. The portions were also very generous. You know how some restaurants charge you like a lot of money for an appetizer or a meal? This place was very reasonable for lunch pricing amd they were generous with their portions. Also the ambiance was very nice too. Wasn't loud at all. I didn't feel rushed and they did not discriminate against me for being a solo diner which some waiters or places will do since the check average for a solo diner is much less than say a group of 5-6 people. I think I also had a glass of wine which he made sure to ask if I wamted another refill of. I drink responsibly so I think I declined a second glass but the pour on the first one was generous as well. I definitely recommend this Italian restaurant in DC. I did not disappoint! I can't speak to the desserts but I am sure they were great and as soon as I left, it was around 5-6pm and it started to get busy so that's a good sign there:) read more

Had dinner here last month (with the same friend who lives nearby and loves this place). I ordered the chicken rollatini and she ordered the insalata di pollo. I had a cannoli for dessert. My chicken rollatini was very flavorful, but not "rollatini," which is to say it was served flat and open, not stuffed and rolled. Don't get me wrong, I might have ordered it anyway if it had been accurately described, and it certainly was tasty. But if you are looking for a rolled up chicken breast entree, this isn't it. My friend much enjoyed her chicken Caesar salad and took half home. My cannoli was also good. This is a casual neighborhood spot, not a fancy date place. We had a big group here (14) and they took good care of us. Service: We got everything that was ordered, his suggestion for 2 bottles of wine was spot on, and everyone was friendly. Ambiance: It's cozy inside, but I would prefer no TVs in the dining area. Food: The Arancini was excellent! Great flavor and large portion size. Mozzarella sticks: Triangle shaped with an amazing cheese pull. Spaghetti and meatballs: Large portion and overall tasted good. I added mozzarella to it just for fun. Veal with lemon sauce: The veal was excellent, even though I'm not one to order it, my taste was very good. Chicken with lemon sauce: Not as good as the veal, my wife said it wasn't anything special. I would love to see the meatballs and sauces be punched up in flavor more. My meatballs weren't seasoned at all and the sauce had no depth of flavor. Came here with a large party. The two main entrees Ravioli and Gnocchi were very tasty. However the service was bad. They did not provide us with bread and after asking for it they said they will bring it out later. For others coming in the brought it out immediately. I believe this was to get us to order appetizers which we did. The appetizers were mid, mozzarella sticks and paid bread tasted frozen. The worst part about this place is the service. The waiter was rude after he brought the wrong drink to us. They did not refill water and all they ever do is stand and talk to each other by the bar rather than attend to customer needs. We were welcoming guests from out of town and it was embarrassing to have them treated rudely. Please consider Il canale in Georgetown as it is more tasty, affordable and exceptionally authentic. We quite enjoyed this authentic Italian restaurant. The bread comes with an addicting pesto sauce. The Caesar salad portion was somewhat small, but it tasted good without being too heavy. The seafood pasta was fresh and definitely worth ordering if you prefer seafood. The spinach manicotti was deliciously cheesy and creamy--they're not afraid of serving very filling pasta. The Pizza Angolo - With its San Marzano tomato sauce, Italian Sausage, BACON, buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, and mushrooms, it is pretty tasty and I've ordered it three times, pretty consistent. I normally like more veggies or a margherita (which they have) but this was both savory and salty, with a slightly crispy yet bread-y crust. Because there's so much meat, there is a bit of oil on the pizza, and this is to be expected. My son usually gets the meatball Parmesan sandwich which comes with fries. He says the meatballs are flavorful and prefers when they use more Parmesan, but he's usually pretty satisfied. The fries are the crunchy, kind of coated kind. The tiramisu CAN be shared, but why? Lol, it's creamy and chocolate-y, and the ladyfingers aren't overly soaked which I prefer because I need the texture balance. Overall, we like Angolo for comfort Italian food; it's pretty popular with visitors, families, and locals, being a little on the SE side of Georgetown. It gets pretty busy starting Thursdays through the weekend, but you can also make a reservation on Open Table. If you sit on the patio or curbside, it can get pretty noisy with conversation and traffic. Inside is a little bit less noisy but vibrant with conversation. Do note that if you eat on-site, the gratuity of 18% is automatically added for tables of 2 or more. It's noted on the menu. I can't tell you why they do this, but you should know ahead of time. If you want Take-out, order direct from their website and save some $$ on App fees and the automatic gratuity is not charged. Buon appetito! read more

A group of us had dinner here on a Saturday night and when we arrived we couldn't figure out where they could put us since the small dining area seemed full. We were escorted outside, through a side door and up a flight of pretty steep stairs to a room that seemed converted from another establishment based on the decor which didn't really fit with an Italian restaurant. I did take a picture. Anyway, we found the mis-match of decor and cuisine entertaining. They did split our group of 12 into 2 tables, so if you are making a reservation for a large group and want to be all together, it's probably a good idea to specify that and see if they can accommodate. If anyone in your party can't climb steep stairs be sure to ask for ground floor seating. Anyway, the food is classic Italian, and I went with the eggplant parmesan which was nicely done. The eggplant has some crispiness to it and the sauce was flavorful and the accompanying pasta was cooked nicely. We found out later there is another menu that has some additional options; a colleague at the other table had asked about a lamb item on the basic menu and the server said that if he liked lamb they'd bring out another menu. He said this was another full menu that did feature some lamb dishes and other options such as osso buco...so...if you want more choices ask for the special menu. read more

Thursday night. We arrived when outside seating wasn't even half full, but service was a bit slow. Food wise, pizza was probably the best but nothing really stood out. $14 squid had a bit fishy taste and portion was quite small. Dessert was not as the item described on the menu. Overall, food is about average. What bothered me the most was the hygiene issues. 1) no waiters or waitresses were wearing masks and our waiter literally coughed at our table when he bent down to take our orders. 2) unclean utentials.
