This is a solid stop for casual Italian. On a Friday night, we were able to be seated on the patio immediately. Our server was great and the food came out quick. However, my table ordered drinks that never came, so we ended up canceling the drink order. I thought the pizza was just okay. Very thin crust that wasn't super crispy, so I definitely felt like I had to use a fork and knife. The toppings were good, but I felt like some cheese was missing. The small plates were the star of the show. The cauliflower was incredible and the corn salad was perfectly crunchy. This is a great spot for sharing!
Question for the restaurant owners: Regarding the 20% fee you charge customers to help cover employee wages and benefits--on top of the expectation to leave another 20% tip, making it a total of 40%--why should I be responsible for paying your staff's wages? You say this charge is "optional," yet your servers don't seem properly informed. They explain it as something that doesn't go to them directly, but instead toward wages. That feels misleading--almost like taking advantage of customers. If a restaurant cannot afford to pay fair wages and benefits, that is not the customer's responsibility. We are diners; we come to enjoy a meal and tip based on the quality of service. My server didn't even seem happy--likely because she has to explain this confusing 20% charge to every table, unless someone doesn't notice it on the bill. The wording you currently use at the bottom of the menu and on the bill needs to be changed. As a customer, I should only be responsible for paying a tip. If a tip is automatically charged, it should be clearly stated as such. Any additional gratuity should be entirely optional at the customer's discretion I will not be returning to this place.
Cool Italian Restaurant I discovered on a walk up 14th street. I had the mixed salad and the Sicilian Pizza. The salad was okay tastewise, but was a generous portion. The Sicilian Pizza was very tasty! The crust was great too. It was more than I could finish, but I almost ate the whole things. I now have breakfast tomorrow! The service was also good. The included service charge made this a bit expensive for a meal for one. I get though why they need to do this. Still, its worth visiting here.
While walking down 14th Street, stumbled upon this hole in the wall pizza place that kind of looked busy. I walked past and did a circle back around after about a block to see again if how busy it was. Fortunately, there was a spot or two open at the bar and tried to see if I could get a spot. Etto is a small artisan spot whose space really plays up that hole in the wall Italian feel you'd get in a Venice or Florence where it's right around the corner and you could take a first date knowing the food will be well made. Whilst sitting at the bar, the bartender // also my server, struck up a conversation with me almost as if he knew me previously and we chatted back and forth for twenty minutes or so before he realized he didn't take my order. To my surprise, it didn't bother me - the service was great! Pizza wise, a crispy crust, a cooked undercarriage with only a little flab toward the bottom. A rich house made sauce tinkered with light touches of a garlic with creamy ovoline balls.
Such a cozy and welcoming environment, it reminded me of home :) the wooden countertop and the prosciutto hanging on the wall behind it makes it look like a very traditional family owned place (although it's not - family owned, I mean). Service was excellent: kind, attentive and welcoming, also quick. Prosciutto and burrata were so fresh, I'd have them every time, together with some crunchy bread and olive oil is the best appetizer. Pizza was stunningly good, not necessarily in terms of dough - which was really good but not my favorite style -but for the topping. I had the seasonal one with butternut squash, rosemary and pancetta. This is a combination I rarely find outside of Italy, and I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw it on the menu but especially when I tasted it. Delicious!! Very well done job! :)
@pizzeria_etto focuses on seasonal ingredients and changes their menu literally daily soo on 3/26 we started with the bar bites Trio of Deviled Eggs with Cornichon, Chives, & Paprika which were and the Watercress Caesar with Parmesan & Croutons, which was fresh and unexpected very importantly, we split the seasonal: A Little Fancy Marinara & a half Burrata overall, Etto is superrr cozy and our meal came out to less than $20 per person which is a steal IMO!
My friend, who famously doesn't like Italian food, voluntarily brought me to Etto the other night, so I knew that it had to be good enough to win him over. We came in at around 6 PM and were seated promptly. The space is quite small, so I think that we got lucky. We ordered the watercress Caesar salad, the garlic scape pancetta pizza, and the green tomato sausage pizza. As a Caesar salad connoisseur, I was pleasantly surprised by the watercress version. I am a purist and prefer baby gem lettuce to kale in my Caesar, so I was skeptical about this. The watercress in the salad kinda...arrived in branches... and there was no real way of eating it without feeling a little bit like a cow (I think it could've been chopped up a little bit), but the nutty, herbal flavor was refreshing. The dressing itself is legit, and there was a perfect amount to coat the watercress. I always appreciate it when the salad isn't dripping with dressing and more croutons than veg (sue me). As for the pizza, it was excellent. Bubbly crust, chewy perfection. I enjoyed mine; I've never had garlic scapes in cuisines other than Chinese cooking. It added a little onion-y, crisp crunch to a smoky, meaty pizza. I got to try a piece of my friend's pizza, and I liked it so much I almost asked him to trade pizzas. The acid from the green tomato cut the grease of the cheese and complemented the fennel-spiced sausage so well. Truly a perfect pairing. Here's to another great dinner of my DC trip!
Cute spot and nice ambiance! We were a party of 5 and were seated right away once our whole group arrived. We shared 3 seasonal pizzas; the morels, puntarelle, and vongole. Nothing stood out as amazing, but the morels pizza was my favorite. We asked that our pizzas be cooked a little more crispy which helped. I also ordered the goodbye earl cocktail which was strong but balanced well with the lemon and grapefruit. For dessert we shared the affogato and chocolate custard. Chocolate custard was really good and I loved the whipped cream on top!
Overall: cute date spot - dim lighting, good service, and delicious food Food: i love their seasonal pizzas. The green tomato sausage was delicious! It's thin and flavorful. It's big enough to share with another person. But I would recommend getting an app. The burrata was perfect! Service: staff was very attentive. We love coming to DC and trying the many different places it has to offer. This weekend, we enjoyed dinner at Etto. Staff is super friendly. The servers had our glasses filled and quickly came to retreive the dirty dishes. The restaurant has a small bar and counter, a brick oven, and a seating area. No reservations were needed. We ordered the candied walnuts, termite dibitteto olives, deviled eggs, and lamb meatballs. The walnuts had the perfect crunch and sweetness. The olives were infused with garlic and had slivered pieces of pepper. The trio of deviled eggs with cornichon chives and paprika. The lamb meatballs had great flavor with a Middle Eastern flair. For the entrees, we ordered the Margarita pizza and the green tomato and sausage pizza. The pizzas were thin crust. Both had very good flavor. Cozy place. Highly recommend.
"Hot" restaurants come and go in Logan Circle, but for a decade now, we've always come back to Etto. In fact, we often make a reservation somewhere else, but plan to stop here first. If we can nab a table at this cozy no-reservations spot, we cancel the reservation elsewhere. Etto remains casual but sophisticated, with seasonal specials made with premium quality fresh ingredients, prepared simply and with respect. You can always count on interesting, unique, and intense flavors, from bar snacks to cocktails, salads to charcuterie, and reliable seasonal Neapolitan pizzas. Pair a pizza here with a few small savory plates and salads and you have a beautiful meal. Items we always come back to include a bar snack of prosciutto and burrata (or pecorino), the watercress caesar (or any salad for that matter), roasted meatballs, and a terrific plain tomato pie. read more

After a week of trying mediocre places in DC, a friend invited me to try "Etto" night. Much to my pleasant surprise Etto is a great pizza place on 14th street that also has small sharable plates. We tired the octopus and bean salad, and the "Americana" pizza. Everything was delicious, I loved the salad, and the pizza tasted so fresh with great ingredients. Service was also decent and the server was eager and knowledgeable about the menu. I found the prices to be quite reasonable for DC. I highly recommend trying Etto if you're in the mood for pizza. read more

I visited this spot on Pride weekend and it was packed! Thankfully they were able to accommodate us on short notice. They were quick to bring us our pizza. Personally, I believe the bread of the pizza is way too thin. However it was still delicious! read more

I got a pepperoni pizza and lamb meatballs to share with the table and both were great. The pizza came out hot and the pepperonis were crispy. The lamb meatballs were also really flavorful and there's lots of sauce that you can dip your bread in. read more

Etto is absolutely my favorite new pizza in DC and perhaps a contender for my favorite pizza in the DMV! Was absolutely blown away by the awesome service, friendly and lively atmosphere (not too loud, nor too quiet) and gorgeous outdoor patio. The pizza (and bread) is AMAZING in taste and texture. I loved the seasonal vongole pizza and equally enjoyed the salami. I also loved our appetizer- we selected the octopus and gigantic bean salad which seemed odd at first but was perfectly tender and refreshing and light. The cocktails are good and strong and they have a STELLAR selection of wines, housemade limoncello, and unique Italian Amaro and other post dinner drinks and treats! I will definitely be coming back here in there future and for sure this is my new go-to spot on 14th! For reference most restaurants on 14th are overpriced and of mediocre quality but Etto did NOT disappoint! read more

Lovely environment. Great service. Annoying surcharge. We ordered a prosciutto appetizer and then a pizza. It was a nice light meal for summer Except for the 20% surcharge. It looks like they print new menus daily, so it should be easy enough for them to print menus with the full price. But the food was really good. I'll be back as soon as the surcharge goes away. read more

I'm from Texas so the chances of me having a pizza from here is pretty low and that saddens me. I started with the watercress Caesar and I was not a fan.. For my main, I kept it simple and got a margherita pizza with pepperoni - 10/10. Food was hot and fresh so I'll think about this pizza for at least another month or so. The service was ok. The server didn't seem interested in taking care of us, maybe even annoyed (?). Anyway, pretty solid read more

Great service, fantastic craft cocktails, and well-prepared fresh ingredients. We tried the watercress caesar salad and it was absolutely delicious. The watercress was crisp and refreshing - not to mention this was a gorgeous salad, too. We tried two different seasonal drinks and they were perfect, not too sweet at all and very well made. We also tried the Green Tomato and Housemade Sausage pizza which I highly recommend. The tomato is fresh and sliced super thin. The dining space inside is well lit and cozy, and there's also a sizeable patio outside. We had an amazing time here with delicious food and I will definitely return. read more

closer to a 3.5! I went for happy hour and wish there was more on the happy hour menu but was still happy! we started off with the pecorino & proscuitto - I love both of these items endlessly so I had high expectations and both were seriously perfect! I was a bit confused by the honey initially but it worked so well. deviled eggs were so good too I wish I ordered more! onto the pizza which I hoped would be the star of the show - I was kinda let down. the crust was really good so I get why this is a "good pizza" but I didn't like the toppings so maybe I just ordered the wrong one - I'll have to go back to try a different one. I wasn't a fan of the interior - it was super basic and didn't have a warm/cozy/welcoming feeling that I want from an Italian restaurant read more

really nice restaurant to enjoy the nice weather or the indoors with not-so-big but delicious pizzas. we also got the potato with garlic aioli but the aioli was just garlic there was nothing aioli about it at all. but besides that it was very nice read more

Unbelievably cool spot. I may be gaining a reputation for only giving 5 star reviews but that's because I only eat and drink at good spots! Recommend sitting at the bar between 5 and 6pm on a week day. Sneak away from work a little early and grab a drink by yourself (it's a small bar). Great happy hour menu of $8 spritzes/negronis and a few bar bites like marinated olives and almonds. The pizza is fantastic - I had the seasonal Sicilian eggplant and it was absolutely perfect. Service was friendly, but not too attentive (in a good way). I really felt like I could enjoy my food, drink, and thoughts without a bartender asking if I was OK every 2 minutes. Highly recommend Etto. You can sit at the bar and watch them make pizzas in the wood-fired oven. What's not to like? read more

Ok, I don't normally give a 5 star on the first visit but this was so definitely not 4 star. Great experience! First, great service. Definitely 5 star service. Antonio and the rest of the team ensured the experience was wonderful. The Blood Orange Salad was tasty with olive oil dressing. I was surprised at how well they complimented each other. The Americano pizza was so incredibly good. So good that after the last bite I didn't want to take a drink. I didn't want to lose the amazing flavors in my mouth. Loved the tiny pepperoni and cheese blobs. The crust was great for dipping in olive oil after. Each bite was better than the last. The decor was pleasant and enjoyable. I love a brick oven pizza place but they had lots to choose from on the menu. Give them a try! read more
The pizza was very delicious (I got classic margherita), and the lamb meatballs were so good, I would return just for those, they tasted South Asian-spiced, almost. I don't have a picture of them because I ate them too fast. Cute and cozy vibes, would go back. Tasted rustic and warmed my soul. read more
Quaint place. Walked in here on a whim and the only seating available was a small bar space facing out the front window. I wish I'd done a little digging on Yelp to look at food pictures before I ordered! Lots of things on here that people posted look awesome but I wasn't thrilled with my choices. I take part of the blame as I just wasn't familiar with some ingredients and I should have looked them up or asked questions before ordering. I started with the Ceasar salad. I didn't realize the salad would be entirely made up of watercress which is very stemmy rather than leafy. It did have a good crunch but wouldn't order again. My friend and I then split the calabrese pizza. I saw the word calabrese and was expecting something with calabrian chiles but turns out it's a type of broccoli, haha. Definitlely never would have ordered a broccoli pizza if we knew that's what it was! The crust was good and I could tell they know how to make a good pizza. I would definitely give this place it another try (and bring a dictionary!) read more

Delicious authentic Neapolitan pizza - my top pick in DC! While there are no reservations, it's well worth the wait! From the cozy brick exposed walls to wood-burning oven and in-house mill, Etto is truly authentic and reminiscent of Naples. The classic Margherita pizza hits the spot with a pillowy chewy crust from the fresh in-house flour and dollops of buffalo mozzarella cheese and tomato puree. While the special Eggplant pizza was fun to try, the roasted eggplant and herbs overpowered the pizza. I preferred the simple Margherita pizza - less is more! My hubby enjoyed the tender and thinly sliced Prosciutto, shaped in a delightful rose petals! The cocktails pack a punch! The Wintry Mix Punch with Bourbon, Vermouth, and Amaro Sfumato was quite potent, the Blood Orange was subtle and hardly masked the alcohol. I enjoyed a glass of Lambrusco. Cozy spot for date night and small groups, be prepared to wait and grab a drink at the bar! On Valentine's Day, we waited for 45 minutes. There were no specials tailored to V-Day. The Tiramisu was sold out - next time! The daily specials are generally the same with a couple of new dishes popping up. Etto is a bright spot on U Street. Definitely prefer Etto to the overhyped Ghibellina the next block over. read more
I came to Etto for a weekday dinner with a friend. We ordered the Alla Romana pizza and the Caesar salad to share, and each got a glass of orange wine. The salad was absolutely incredible - just the right amount of dressing and parmesan. Our pizza was delicious as well, and I particularly was impressed by the crust. I was really pleased by my wine, which was a nice sized pour as well. I liked sitting inside, as it had a great wine bar vibe, but the patio looked nice as well. Our waitress was very helpful and sweet. I've already recommended this spot to a few friends! read more
