The food was great and Tigist was an absolutely wonderful server. I ended up eating here for the majority of my weekend in DC! Thank you for such kind service!

Figgy Fantasy Pizza

Corn Bisque is delicious!!! Got the Figgy Fantasy pizza - it was different not too excited to see corn on my pizza. It was flavorful but not as good as I thought it would be. Also got the shrimp starter "Gambas De Anjillo". You literally get 3 shrimp and a ton of pieces of focaccia that is toasted. Do not recommend this appetizer. Coming back for the bisque and will try other items.

I was in town for a conference and had the pleasure of staying at the Westin, where Root & Vine is located. They have specified hours for serving breakfast, lunch & dinner (at restaurant & room service). They do have a grab & go area in the hotel lobby with some refrigerated options (fruit, yogurt, etc.), snacks, & beverages. The hotel lobby (including bar) intertwines with the open concept restaurant and has ample seating areas to fit numerous party sizes and needs. There were several conferences going on in the hotel and surrounding area and the Westin was my choice for winding down after days full of stimulation. I enjoyed being able to sit quietly by myself, bringing a friend for a good meal and easy (to hear) conversation, and connecting with new friendly people. During my stay I enjoyed: Room service breakfast- Greek Yogurt & Berries (Eat Well menu, $14)- house chia & flaxseed granola, bubba's sweet nectar honey. It was served in container with lid that was able to be taken with me which was perfect because I ordered at 630am for ASAP delivery that was expected at 720 but arrived at 735 so I needed to take it and run. It was a picture perfect dish that tasted great and held me to lunch. Bacon- ($9) I was able to eat on this for 3 days as it was also served in a to-go container that fit perfectly in the room fridge. Coffee- I should deduct a few stars for how this was delivered because it was in the paper bag with my yogurt and spilled in the bag leaving a mess. (Deducted one star from overall review for this but if rating independently would give 1/5 for the lack of attention & mess). Bar/Restaurant- Oasis District - 5/5 Kori's Basil Bliss Pizza - 5/5 House Salad with house-made dressings - 5/5 Cadillac Margarita - 5/5 I met others who were enjoying smoked old fashioned, sage & garden, & burgers. Sisay & Gwen were excellent servers! Very energetic, inviting, attentive, & skilled at making craft cocktails (that are also beautiful).

Gooey Butter Cake

The food is tasty, but the service is extremely slow when dining in person and the prices are HIGH. Expect to pay a little more than you typically would, which I'm sure is a result of marking up the costs because of the hotel's atmosphere. I tried the vegan "butter chicken" in the "indulge" portion which still felt quite small. I also had the gooey butter cake which was delicious but not really what I was expecting when I ordered gooey butter cake.

Tea In The Clouds

I stayed at the Westin for a week during a conference. The Root & Vine is located inside of the hotel. The ambiance of th restaurant/bar depends on how crowded the hotel is since it sits in the middle of the hotel lobby. I came in for breakfast one day, and for a nightcap another day. Unfortunately there isn't much variety in their menu. I ordered the B.E.C. Sandwich. I could have used some garlic aioli or mayo so that it wasn't so dry, other than that, it was okay. Most of the dishes are a la carte. The service was decent, although I had to ask a couple of times for things that were missing (sprouts and a straw), and I never received them. They were minor items so I did without them. They is automatic service fee added to every check, in addition to the DC service charge. On a different day, I visited the bar and had Lavender tea drink (alcoholic). It was good.

Due to a 30$ destination fee charged during my stay that was a charge/credit to be used on property (for limited things like this restaurant and it being required, as in you'll be charged regardless so might as well use it) we ate multiple meals here. Service was always kind and prompt. Out of all the meals, lunch options were probably our favorite. The only critique would be it is very loud as it is in the center of an open atrium area near the lobby and weirdly cold. But maybe they were trying to keep up with the 100+ heat outside.

Brussel Sprouts (No Pistachios)

I think the food here definitely fits the vibes here in downtown DC. Everything tasted good and fresh, so kudos to the chef, but what made the meal even more enjoyable as the professional service from my server, Phillip. I could tell he was busy and that he had a lot to do from some very demanding tables but my encounter with him and from the tables around me that had him as a server, he was calm, cool, and very professional! The reason for my 4 stars and not 5 was due to the very limited menu. I know most people will say that for a hotel restaurant, this is typical, and to that I say is fair. For me, I'd just like a bit more food options to choose from...personal preference. Taste of food and service...excellent!! I'd come back for sure!

It's a basement bar with a bit of a dive vibe, but it's hard to ignore the nautical, blue crab theme throughout. Turns out that one of the owners is a Marylander, which is cool to see reflected in the decor in a place in dc, even though it is next door. They have a happy hour and they have a great variety of drinks in general. It's bring-your-own-food (BYOF) and there are a bunch of delicious looking Asian spots nearby, including upstairs. It didn't start getting crowded until closer to 10, which, as I said, is surprising for this part of town to me. Everywhere in Chinatown is not going to be packed and busy, and this place is here to remind you of that. Stop by if you're looking for a more chill vibe. Staff are pretty cool.

You seat yourself and order at the bar, servers will bring you your food as it's ready. The food was good, but portions were tiny. The whole menu is labeled as shareable, but the butter beans literally had maybe 15 beans with toothpicks to share... the fries were pretty good, but for $12 for just a bowl of fries, I would expect exceptional. I liked the chili crisp salmon, but it didn't blow me away, and the portion size for $18 was so small. I did think the Parker house rolls were fantastic, and they came out piping hot, which was delightful. The mocktail option was also excellent! I really wish they would reconsider only having Baked and Wired pastries available in the morning- you only have one rotating cake option available for dessert, and it would've been nice to be able to enjoy more. I did not think the service experience here merited an automatic, unchangeable 20% gratuity. There's very minimal service- you are just brought your food and a water carafe. And while everything on the menu looked and tasted good, the tiny portions for items labeled as shareable didn't feel quite right. A fun place to stop in for a glass of wine, but I didn't love the experience enough to be eager to return.

Dear reader, Maxwell…read morePark is exactly the sort of charming little wine bar that makes an ordinary evening feel rather more sophisticated than it had any right to be. The wine list is enormous, with plenty of options whether you know exactly what you like or prefer to experiment a bit. During our visit, they were running a back-to-school theme with clever head-to-head comparisons of similar wines. You could order half glasses of each and taste them side by side, which made the whole experience feel fun, approachable, and slightly educational without becoming terribly serious about it. There is a good amount of seating inside, plus a lovely patio with fire pits that makes lingering especially tempting. The food menu is equally flexible, ranging from simple chips for snacking to a full burger for dinner, with more indulgent options like caviar and Champagne if the evening calls for a little grandeur. I'm glad I managed to find red and white wines that I enjoyed. I also noticed that they had a crunchwrap on their menu and I had to try it. It was smaller than I thought, but the flavors going on?? Spectacular. There will also these dumplings... SWEET POTATO DUMPLINGS! And they had sage and candied walnuts. Ultimately they tasted more like a dessert, but I was obsessed with those and loved how unique they were. I'd return here, there's just too much good stuff to try!
