Seeckxe was quick and ataff was attentive. They bring you a small stool if you have a purse/bags which I always find to be a nice gesture. The Lobster Benedict had a good amount of lobster on each English muffin without being too overpowering. It was a njce balance. The Manhattan Steak was well seasoned and cooked perfectly (we got it medium rare). The fingerling potatoes were also cooked with a bit of a crunchy skin, which I love. The asparagus for both dishes were cooked well though so they didn't have a chewiness to them. The seasonal fruit plate was refreshing and all the fruits were ripe with a good sweetness. The blackberries were my favorite! For dessert we got the mini carrot cake cupcakes. Could be bite sized if you wanted, haha, but they were moist and flavorful for their size. read more

We came for Brunch... I'll admit, the Instagram posts of their hot chocolate bar definitely piqued our interest and convinced us to give this place a try. While the setting is lovely, the service felt inconsistent at times, and the menu didn't really stand out. Greenhouse Eggs Benedict- prepared well and the asparagus was the perfect side. Lox and Bagel- the salmon was delicious and not salty. The hot chocolate bar was cute and fun; it's really just a cart with a friendly server adding toppings which melted well with the hot chocolate, delicious! But my entree--while absolutely beautiful--tasted incredibly bland bordering on unpleasant. I ordered the potato dumplings, and being a tad confused by the description I questioned the server on whether that was simply gnocchi. I did not get a clear answer, as he simply repeated the name of the dish. I took a risk and ordered it anyway. It was not, indeed, gnocchi, but rather actual dumplings stuffed with purple potato. So the description had been apt, I had just never seen something like it before. It was plated in a way that was absolutely stunning--literally, my table gasped when it came out. But... I didn't really like it, and certainly wouldn't order it again. We ordered two desserts, both of which were delicious and large in portion size (which is good, given their price). Like everything else, their appearances were especially appealing. I think I would come back and order a different entree. Visited the Greenhouse restaurant for breakfast during our visit to DC over Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant is located inside the beautiful Jefferson Hotel, and the entire property is absolutely stunning. The interior features black-and-white checkered floors, large crystal chandeliers, and dark grey curtains. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere of relaxed luxury. The service staff were very friendly and welcoming. We began our meal with a couple of lattes, which were excellent. I loved that they served their hot drinks in grey-painted china. I opted for the avocado toast and the French toast--both were beautifully plated and truly delicious. I came here with my partner for our anniversary on a Friday night. The atmosphere is definitely fancy, and there were plenty of waiters and staff on hand catering to the guests. We ordered two entrees a la carte (~$50 each), but they also had a 4 course meal available for $100/person as well. Before the entrees came out we were served bread with butter/salt/oil as well as a fried cheese ball. The bread was warm and had just the right soft and chewy texture. I think they noticed how much I loved it as they served us a second helping before our entrees came out. The entrees were okay. We got the lamb and the coq au vin. The lamb was definitely better -- perfectly seasoned and cooked to medium. The chicken was okay but I wasn't a fan of the wine sauce. Each came with some veggies which were cooked well. The oyster mushrooms on the chicken dish were a highlight. On the way out one of the waiters gave me some extra bread and a chocolate boxed up. Excellent and attentive service!! The Jefferson Eggs Benedict: 9/10. I don't like runny eggs and they accommodated me with hard eggs. The hollandise sauce was a light foam rather than a sauce which was kind of weird but overall tasted good. Make sure to add pepper! Fresh Berry French Toast: 9/10. Not too sweet, light and fluffy. So it was time to revisit this place for our Tin anniversary. Our first stop was at the Quill for cocktails, and then we moved over to the Greenhouse for dinner. Our server was from Jamaica and was excellent. He took care of our gluten-free needs. We had a charcuterie board with 24-month Prosciutto for a fantastic appetizer. My wife had the short ribs, and I had the filet mignon for the main course. Again just perfect. For dessert, I had a chocolate mouse, and my wife cheated on the gluten with a cheesecake. A great experience in modest fine dining. One of the best meals I've had in DC! The setting beautiful, staff is formal, and food is extremely refined, yet while this is clearly a fine dining restaurant, there are no frills about it. Everything we ate was delicious and thoughtful. Each component of each dish had a purpose and added to the overall quality of the plate. The crab and corn soufflé, while I don't think I would call it a soufflé, was rich in corn and crab flavor, had varying textures of softness on the inside and a crunchy brûlée-like top, and was so tasty you couldn't help clearing your bowl. The duck and endives were perfectly cooked and had an incredible sauce that elevated the dish to another level. Our dessert, a pear crumble, played with various textural components and highly contrasting and classic flavors that all came together perfectly. I didn't think I'd like this place, but I did. upon arrival, it seems there was a bit of confusion. they had mixed our reservations up with someone else's. when we were seated, we received a nice table, but it was next to the front door. we could feel the literal draft of wind come in. and this was an extremely windy, cold day. they were nice enough to move our table, thankfully. we ordered their fresh squeeze orange juice, chicken and waffles, blueberry french toast and avocado toast. at first, they brought out grapefruit juice & had to change it out. orange juice was good, definitely fresh squeezed quality. for $8, I probably wouldn't get it again though. my friends seemed to enjoy their food & after my daughter kept demanding for avocado toast, it arrived. for $30, I was hoping there would be...idk more? haha I don't know why my expectations were so much higher. I don't think it was worth the price tag, but it was good. my daughter ate half the toast! the customer service was pretty amazing. I didn't expect them to have little stools for your purse. they'll take your coats in the beginning if you have one. they gave my daughter a complimentary beenie baby & a coloring book! she was so happy! surprised as to how accommodating they were with children. Upon arrival, the waiter asked about allergies or preferences of our party. For each course, I was told that my plate was gluten-free; two of the six courses were modified to avoid gluten. When bread was brought to the table, I was given gluten-free toast (and a separate butter plate). For dish modifications, a lamb arancini-like bite was removed from my main-course plate (no substitution, just omitted entirely). For dessert, I was given a separate dish (warm blood orange and ice cream, when my friends received gingerbread baked Alaska). I had one cocktail, a Madras (my usual drink); it was very good. Overall, I was very satisfied by my experience at The Greenhouse. Other than the removal from my main course, I was given the same amount (or equivalent) food as my dining companions. While The Greenhouse is not entirely gluten-free, I felt they took my autoimmune disorder seriously. I did not experience any after-effects from exposure to gluten (including cross contact). I found my new breakfast spot in DC and I'm so happy! We came here on a Wednesday morning and I ordered chamomile tea and waffles with whipped cream and fruit. The whip cream was homemade and berries were fresh! The tea was piping hot just how I like it! My date got steel cut oatmeal, Benedict that came with asparagus and he subbed the pork for chicken & feta sausage, and a side of potatoes we shared. Everything was DELICIOUS!!! Unfortunately, I don't think that whatever it is that prompted so many positive brunch reviews here translates over to their highly overpriced, underwhelming dinner service. The shortest way for me to describe my dinner experience here is...I don't get it. Most of the entrees were above $50. Unless it's something featuring rare and precious ingredients - it's covered in truffle or caviar, or it's some priceless aged steak, or imported from somewhere - it's really hard to justify that price point. I ordered a $55 seabass entree that was meh. Not just meh for the pricepoint. Meh in general. It was a small cut, skin on, cooked well but really thin and not very flavorful at all. It came with a beet puree and...more beet puree? The puree was nice, but pretty much the only flavor throughout the dish so it was very one-note. And it had a few nicely cut carrots and such on the plate, but nothing approximating an actual satisfying side. This entree was OK but *just* OK, and I would have been questioning its value at $35, and at $55 it was just baffling. There was nothing on that plate that made me understand why I was paying this premium other than that it was expensive just to be expensive because the restaurant wants to be an expensive restaurant. The $20+ scallop appetizer had two scallops on it. Beautifully prepared scallops, with a nice sauce, but two scallops. And as an appetizer it was meant to be shared, so if you're in a group of more than 2, looks like those scallops are getting cut in half. You don't even get a whole scallop! That's more than $10 per scallop, by the way. Flavor-wise, though, I would say this dish was much more impressive than my $55 seabasss. Additionally, the service was fine but nothing to write home about - not the doting, elegant service I would expect in this scenario. And they weren't busy (wonder why). I was also unimpressed with our very expensive desert - it was chocolate and pear and I was expecting a fanciful tart-like creation, but when it came out it was really just a slice of super rich chocolate ganache cake with some pear gelee dollops on the plate and weird disks of dark chocolate jutting out of it. Several of us split it and most of us only had a few bites and left most of the slice (which was standard-sized) over. That tells you something. The best part was the fresh baked bread, which came to the table for free. Honestly, it was acceptable enough, but if we had spent half as much I'd still have felt we didn't get our money's worth and like most of the food I'd had was boring. I'd be more than willing to try this restaurant for brunch given the reviews, but I do not recommend it at all for dinner. If you want to hang out at the Jefferson in the evening, I recommend just going to the bar, Quill. The cocktails there are insanely priced ($23 for cocktails that are the same as the $15 cocktails you can get anywhere else, and if you want something similar at a similar price I prefer the round bar at the Willard). But at least the cocktails here are really good. Or, you know, you could go to any of the 80 gazillion upscale New American bars in DC and eat food of the same or better quality for half the price. read more

Loved how not too crowded and quiet the restaurant was. Food King Salmon Tartare beautiful presentation! Easy to share. Tiered salmon, avocado & roe with cucumber herbal juice with dill oil (but with no spoon so we sopped it up with the bread). Even the little bagel chips comes in it's own wooden case. $21. 5* Bread Basket is complimentary assortment of 2 herbal rolls and 2 olive nut rolls. 5* Rachael's Salad a big salad with a whole airline cut grilled chicken breast (comes attached with a drumette), chorizo, pickled watermelon, green olives (loved!), tasting Sherry vinaigrette. $26. 5* Sirloin Burger is bit pricey but it's prime sirloin afterall. They asked how we like it cooked and came as requested with cheddar cheese, red onion jam, tomatoe confit in a delicious potato bun. Nice crisp on the fries. $25 5* Chicken Paillard is slightly overdressed in a very tasty mustard dressing with dried apricot pieces. $31. 4.5* Eggplant Rigatoni eggplant is fried like little tempura spears but seemed like only a handful of them in this eggplant dish. Food was good enough, and place was elegant, but I felt they committed a couple of dining crimes. Partial Pros: Ambiance was beautiful and the natural light lifted my mood. The vibe was relaxing. The china and silverware were fancy with minute details of Benjamin Franklin with a kite and the table was beautifully decorated. The staff was polite. We got the crab cake eggs benedict avocado toast, cast iron baked eggs, chicken and waffles, and three egg omelet and it was all mediocre. Nothing was particularly astounding upon trying it, but it was satisfying enough in my opinion. I didn't feel we got what we paid for and thought we were compensating for the ambiance instead. We also got a basket of pastries and those are awesome so I recommend it. I never saw avocado toast on a menu for $26, so I thought it must be the best avocado toast to exist on the planet but it wasn't even close. Crimes: When I saw the prices of mimosas for $17, I wondered what kind of champagne they used but I really didn't want to find out. I wanted a coffee but didn't see it anywhere on the menu so you have to ask for tea or coffee. They initially brought out earl grey instead of english breakfast that my friend ordered but it happens. In the end, the tea and coffee was $8 for each cup. I was shocked that we spent $8 on a tea bag and hot water and for regular coffee and felt it was a crime. Overall, you should come here for a nice ambiance. I'd probably bring my mom here for quiet brunch but that's about it for me. read more

First time coming to The Greenhouse and we loved it! It's inside the Jefferson hotel so we didn't quite know what to expect but it was close to where we were staying and convenient. It was beautiful! The decor, table set up and ambiance was somewhat regal. From the suede cushioned chairs to the beautiful China cups it was definitely a wonderful experience considering the typical breakfast places that are available. We did make a reservation as we quickly learned breakfast/brunch restaurants book very quickly. I ordered the avocado toast which was delicious and my husband got the French toast. Do not expect the typical American portion size! My order came with one piece of avocado toast and the French toast was just as small. Don't let that discourage you though! They have plenty of other things to try and sides to order you can share. We got the breakfast potatoes and mushrooms which are also smaller portions but just enough for us both. Their fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious. Now when it came to the bill, you're paying not just for the food but for the location, ambiance and service. Expect the bill to be $$$ but it's all about the experience in my opinion. The food was delicious but so was the adventure of fine dining.
