I dined at The Greenhouse for a weekday business lunch. The ambiance and decor are top tier--it's just gorgeous and lived up to its name. Also conveniently located downtown inside The Jefferson hotel. The service was also excellent. Now the food. The burrata appetizer was good, as was the bread service. But my entree--while absolutely beautiful--tasted incredibly bland bordering on unpleasant. I ordered the potato dumplings, and being a tad confused by the description I questioned the server on whether that was simply gnocchi. I did not get a clear answer, as he simply repeated the name of the dish. I took a risk and ordered it anyway. It was not, indeed, gnocchi, but rather actual dumplings stuffed with purple potato. So the description had been apt, I had just never seen something like it before. It was plated in a way that was absolutely stunning--literally, my table gasped when it came out. But... I didn't really like it, and certainly wouldn't order it again. We ordered two desserts, both of which were delicious and large in portion size (which is good, given their price). Like everything else, their appearances were especially appealing. I think I would come back and order a different entree. I was thrown off because the menu did not match what was available online (one of my restaurant pet peeves). I would also love to come back and try brunch.

    Beautifully plated avocado toast.

Visited the Greenhouse restaurant for breakfast during our visit to DC over Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant is located inside the beautiful Jefferson Hotel, and the entire property is absolutely stunning. The interior features black-and-white checkered floors, large crystal chandeliers, and dark grey curtains. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere of relaxed luxury. The service staff were very friendly and welcoming. We began our meal with a couple of lattes, which were excellent. I loved that they served their hot drinks in grey-painted china. I opted for the avocado toast and the French toast--both were beautifully plated and truly delicious. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an elegant dining experience.

I came here with my partner for our anniversary on a Friday night. The atmosphere is definitely fancy, and there were plenty of waiters and staff on hand catering to the guests. We ordered two entrees a la carte (~$50 each), but they also had a 4 course meal available for $100/person as well. Before the entrees came out we were served bread with butter/salt/oil as well as a fried cheese ball. The bread was warm and had just the right soft and chewy texture. I think they noticed how much I loved it as they served us a second helping before our entrees came out. The entrees were okay. We got the lamb and the coq au vin. The lamb was definitely better -- perfectly seasoned and cooked to medium. The chicken was okay but I wasn't a fan of the wine sauce. Each came with some veggies which were cooked well. The oyster mushrooms on the chicken dish were a highlight. On the way out one of the waiters gave me some extra bread and a chocolate boxed up. Excellent and attentive service!! We will come back again next year. :)

The cutest spot for brunch with the girls! - the ambiance of Greenhouse is classic and upscale, a small but solid menu. I got the chocolate chip banana pancakes, soft and sweet! I also added the chicken sausages on the side. I really loved that they offered multiple protein options as sides. Service was quick and efficient. My favorite part was the little stool for my bag! Overall great option, would come back to try another menu/time.

This place is so cute! It'd be a perfect venue to host a bridal shower or intimate event. The service is incredible, the plates and silverware were fancy and the food was divine. The Jefferson Eggs Benedict: 9/10. I don't like runny eggs and they accommodated me with hard eggs. The hollandise sauce was a light foam rather than a sauce which was kind of weird but overall tasted good. Make sure to add pepper! Fresh Berry French Toast: 9/10. Not too sweet, light and fluffy. Chicken sausage: 6/10. Nothing special. I added syrup to mine. Toast for the table: 10/10. The sourdough was lightly toasted but still squishy. The assortment of jams were all great!

The entry into the restaurant. Gorgeous.

I was not expecting to stumble across this elegant gem of a restaurant this morning, but I'm glad I did! The service is beyond. The physical space is gorgeous. And the food -- exquisite. Not inexpensive, but an experience!

To celebrate our incredible ten years of marriage, my wife and I decided on the Jefferson. We had initially looked at doing our wedding reception here but ultimately chose another venue. So it was time to revisit this place for our Tin anniversary. Our first stop was at the Quill for cocktails, and then we moved over to the Greenhouse for dinner. Our server was from Jamaica and was excellent. He took care of our gluten-free needs. We had a charcuterie board with 24-month Prosciutto for a fantastic appetizer. My wife had the short ribs, and I had the filet mignon for the main course. Again just perfect. For dessert, I had a chocolate mouse, and my wife cheated on the gluten with a cheesecake. The wine and dessert wine suggestions were spot on. It was a great memorable evening celebrating an extraordinary decade of wedded bliss.

Beautiful location. I wandered in here by accident and decided to stay for the delicious food. I sat at the bar and the staff were so kind and accommodating. I will definitely be returning.

Terrific service, atmosphere, and food. We were staying at the hotel and came down for breakfast. While a little pricy, the coffees were both delicious. The food was also excellent and meticulously presented. We really enjoyed our time here and look forward to coming back!

The main attraction to the Greenhouse is definitely the ambience. This place is beautiful. Perfect for a brunch date (I recommend in front of the fireplace or in the small green room). The waiters were polite, dressed very professional that added to the overall feel. We ordered the fresh berry French toast, 3 egg omelette and fresh mixed berries. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but honestly the omelette didn't have a lot of flavor and the french toast was just good. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu and I definitely recommend for an impressive date.

A great experience in modest fine dining. One of the best meals I've had in DC! The setting beautiful, staff is formal, and food is extremely refined, yet while this is clearly a fine dining restaurant, there are no frills about it. Everything we ate was delicious and thoughtful. Each component of each dish had a purpose and added to the overall quality of the plate. The crab and corn soufflé, while I don't think I would call it a soufflé, was rich in corn and crab flavor, had varying textures of softness on the inside and a crunchy brûlée-like top, and was so tasty you couldn't help clearing your bowl. The duck and endives were perfectly cooked and had an incredible sauce that elevated the dish to another level. Our dessert, a pear crumble, played with various textural components and highly contrasting and classic flavors that all came together perfectly. Overall, I loved coming here and will definitely return. This is a place for special occasions! What a great experience!

The sommelier's guidance made the experience even better; every recommendation paired perfectly with our meal. And the food? Superb. Outstanding. Maison is the kind of place you go for a special night and leave already planning your return. An absolute gem.

We got a bunch of things to share. I ate the butter like it was frosting. It may be cultured, but I'm not!! Had the carrots, escargot, the deviled eggs, and the pasta. Also had the octopus pepper gilda thing. Our server, think his name was Hunter, said that was the most popular main. It was very delicious, rich but not overly so. The martini was nice and came with a side car. Great presentation. When my friend saw the martini she said this makes me feel like i know how to live. They have a good wine list, you can get good stuff without breaking the bank. Their espresso is nice. I don't think they have decaf though.

History of Present Indulgence 32 yo M presents with spouse…read moreand friend for pre-comedy show dinner at Italian establishment on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. No reservation and sat comfortably at the bar. Physical Examination Food - This place was absolutely delicious. We started with Arancini and Prosciutto e Polenta. The arancini was fried perfectly - crispy outside, warm risotto inside, and sitting in this savory-sweet tomato sauce that I could've honestly just eaten with a spoon (and basically did using the focaccia they give with your meal - which itself was delicious too). The arancini also has ground beef in the center, which adds to the flavor and depth of what is usually just fried risotto. The polenta fries with paprika aioli were fantastic too. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of the fries because there were only 3 to go along with the large plate of sliced prosciutto. The prosciutto itself was fine. Just standard quality prosciutto. For mains, we went family-style and shared three entrees: the pork ossobuco from the secondi menu, the tagliarini with shredded duck, and the cavatelli with rabbit and fava beans. The ossobuco was cooked well, though I wish the braise flavor went deeper into the pork. The truffle mushroom risotto underneath was incredible. Rich, creamy, and the fresh lemon and parsley gremolata on top cut through all that richness perfectly. The tagliarini was delicious, but my wife and I agreed that the duck flavor was a little lost in the rich marinara sauce. It didn't feel like I was eating duck, to be honest. You could've told me that was shredded short rib, and I might've believed you. The cavatelli was probably my favorite dish - those shell-shaped pasta pieces with rabbit and fava beans in a white wine sauce that had this unique flavor I haven't tasted anywhere else. There's a mild gaminess from the rabbit, but it was very subtle. Each time I had a fava bean, it was a fun change of pace in texture and taste as I was spooning this plate down my throat. It was so so good. Portions were generous too, which made the prices feel totally worth it. We left full and satisfied. My wife had a lambrusco spritz that was deliciously refreshing, and we shared some good wine throughout the meal. No complaints. Service - The bartender was really kind and attentive. Even though we weren't at a table, we didn't feel like we were getting second-tier service or anything. They checked on us regularly, made good recommendations, and kept everything moving smoothly. I also love a service that offers more table bread without needing to be asked. And their table bread was this fragrant focaccia, so I could've eaten all of whatever they brought. Ambiance - haven't been to a ton of Italian restaurants in DC, but I loved the vibe here. Intimate, cozy, dim lighting. The wine selection was great too - enough variety to be interesting without being one of those overwhelming 50-page wine lists. I think this would be a perfect date night spot. Assessment A high-quality Italian restaurant with creative takes on traditional dishes, generous portions, and an intimate atmosphere. A strong contender for the Adams Morgan dining scene, where restaurants are lined up right next to each other, and making a choice can be a bit difficult. Plan - Add to recommended restaurant list for DC visitors - Consider for future date nights or a solo wine and appetizer moment - Return to try more pasta dishes or enjoy a happy hour

We told one of the servers and he said noted, then never came back and it was never addressed. The ossobucco with the risotto rice was extremely undercooked, where we could see the white middles of each grain of rice. The ossobucco itself was delicious though! I reached out on their website to share that we were a bit disappointed as we were there with friends who claim this is one of their favorite Italian restaurants in the DMV, and having multiple bones in a dish is not acceptable. Not coming back and saying something is also unacceptable. No one reaching back out after I emailed them, is equally very unacceptable.

The team went above and beyond when they learned I don't drink: they gifted us a non-alcoholic wine, a complimentary appetizer, and dessert. That kind of hospitality isn't scripted... it's felt. Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way. For pasta we had the pappardelle with spicy roasted pork ragù and fennel breadcrumbs, and the canastra cheese ravioli with wild garlic pesto and brazil nut pangrattato, that stunning deep green dish topped with chive blossoms looked like art and tasted even better. Both pastas were perfect. Then the Brazilian budino with coconut caramel and toasted coconut came out with a little candle tucked in. I nearly cried.
