Since changing ownership, they have sadly gone way downhill. The main issue is staff try to overbill then act very rude and deceptive when you point it out. We came during happy hour, when G&Ts and a few other drinks are advertised at $7. Our bill ended up being over $60, when it should have been around $33 and change. When I pointed it out, the bartender claimed they have no way of seeing what items I was charged for, and they couldn't cancel the transaction unless I approved it first and signed. Of course I wasn't going to do that and they're obviously lying so I wouldn't see that they purposely charged items I didn't order. Every bar or cafe can easily see what items you've been charged, people. She then reluctantly fixed the bill and charged the proper amount, but of course I wake up to see they still fraudulently billed me a second time for items I never ordered. We had a good time at roofers! The security guard outside was super friendly and informative on not only roofers but the sister restaurant code red. We started at the bar downstairs and grabbed some food and a drink k which were both awesome. The fish and chips were delicious! Perfectly fired and buttered pure heaven. The spicy margarita was fun and delicious! Highly recommend you grab yourself both. We wandered up to the roof afterward and even though it was pouring outside it was still really fun. Great bar tenders up there as well. The space is small though and they were saying there would be live music that night, so it was getting a little tight. I've been to Roofers Union a few times, it's def an AdMo staple. I went with friends on a Saturday around 6pm. Surprisingly, there were only a few occupied table, and because of this I was hopeful that service would timely and efficient. We must have gotten there around shift change, however, because it took 20 minutes to get in drink orders and at least another 20 to receive them. Our servers were switched halfway through, after which service picked up tremendously. Thanks Nathan We ordered the truffle fries and were disappointed by the lack of any truffle seasoning whatsoever. The meal took 2 hours and we barely were checked on (even though we got the unlimited drinks for $22). Had three rounds of mimosas after begging to have them. Cool spot to pop into if you're in the area. If you're into lobster then Tuesday's would be a great time to visit since they have whole lobster for $25. The corn was dry and overcooked. I did fried cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. They weren't seasoned well. Very mid. I used the aioli and hotsauce to give them a kick. I stopped by the rooftop bar with a friend to have dinner on a beautiful spring evening. The rooftop bar has a tent on top of it that made it feel surprisingly cramped. However, the view from the edge was great and we found a nice spot on stools with a ledge for our food and drinks. Unfortunately, the food was just not great. I had fish and chips with fries and it was really average. The fries were not great at all. They have a rooftop only menu, but the fish and chips are on the normal menu so I'm not sure what other food items are like. The service was pretty absent too, which I honestly expected because it's pretty much like a bar. I think in the future I would come here for a drink but not for the food. Louise treated us so well at my friends 30th birthday. We tried new cocktails that were exciting and different in the first floor, and took shots at midnight to celebrate my friend's birthday. The first floor is highly recommended and it's always a good idea to ask for new / creative drink ideas. There was even a secret menu. Had some friends visiting from out of town and they were staying in Adams Morgan so when we were asked where to meet up for lunch Roofers was the first that came to mind. Have been here a few times since they reopened under new ownership but always just sat outdoors in front so this was the first time we checked out the updated dining room on the second floor. The space looks to be the same size and even layout but with a nicer looking bar, new wall art and a lot of solid larger rectangular tables good for groups. Spacing is still very good - the tables are all a good size with plenty of elbow room. Only thing is it seems to be much noisier, with sound bouncing off the walls especially when the music volume is high and there are loud groups. It wasn't too busy when we were there but with just 2-3 tables of 6 including our own it was pretty difficult to hear anyone not sitting right next to you. For that matter I'd have preferred to be on the rooftop (alas for got to take a look this time) but probably best when it's cooler. Food - brunch items as it was a weekend - is as usual, well prepared, reliable and filling. Midrange prices comparable to area restaurants. We all had entrees, sides and drinks and it came to around $30/pp before tip. Despite the noise issue I like the updated space - definitely worth repeated visits. read more

We did Mothers Day brunch here and it was wonderful!! Free-flowing mimosas, plus eggs, bacon&sausage, French toast, as well as paella, shrimp rolls, chicken piccata, ceviche, shrimp cocktail, oysters, a carving station, a huge charcuterie board, salads and desserts. So insanely overpriced for some of the most mid cocktails I've ever had in DC. Used to be a staple in Adams Morgan but it has really gone downhill. The nail in the coffin for me was my most recent experience on the rooftop where I ordered two club sodas with lime (no alcohol, club soda from the gun) which cost me $11. ELEVEN DOLLARS. For club soda. That is frankly highway robbery and I will not spend any more money at this place because I just feel like they are doing anything and everything to take your money. read more

If you are looking for somewhere with very casual dining in the Adams Morgan area - this could be a good spot for you. From the pictures online, we were hoping to eat on the rooftop, but that was closed and not open (even with a reservation). Similar to what some of the other reviews mention (which I unfortunately didn't check before visiting), the dinner menu has a limited selection of options. There is also very little interaction/engagement with the severs or staff, as orders are made through a QR code on each table. One thing this does mean is that food and drinks come really quickly - so, if you're short on time... This could be a good option for you. Overall, the experience was ok. We happened upon here for happy hour. We were in search of a rooftop happy hour that had food options that weren't typical bar food. Let me start off by saying this. The rooftop menu that is advertised online, didn't match the offerings at the restaurant. That was a bit disappointing. I can't really say much for service, as you order at the bar and take a number. Then your food is brought to you when ready. I will add this, the menu items didn't offer all of the accompaniments that were listed. For example, the menu listed tarted sauce with the fish and chips. My friend's plate didn't have any tartar sauce. And when she asked for it, she was told they don't have it. Who doesn't have tartar sauce for fish and chips?' If you're looking for a bar with a good view, in the heart of Adams Morgan, come here! Really enjoyed dinner and drinks on the rooftop here! It's a causal vibe with a great view of Adams Morgan and 18th street. The food and drinks are also really good! I especially enjoyed the grilled chicken sandwich and the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer. This is one of the best venues I've found to host a large group event in DC. Catering & Events Coordinator, Maggie, made planning easy and effortless. Our group of nearly 100 people was able to gather for a party on the second floor, setup for both bar-style mingling and seated eating. I ordered a few (good, affordable) appetizers for the group to share. All other guest ordered counted toward the cost minimum to reserve the space, making it personally easy and affordable for me to host without unnecessary expense. The space (exposed brick, big bay windows) has its own character: nice but not stuffy. Staff members were very attentive and accommodating - even dealing with the large group. Thanks to bartenders (Steph, Jordan, Allie) for great service, and toc captains (Salina, Chris) and Joseph for ensuring the overall great experience. We'll be back! read more

Crappy beer and lame service is no way to keep or draw old customers. For a place that had a reputation as a leading gastropub downtown, the beer list alone is a travesty. This is a Sunday brunch review with a large (12 person group). On the whole the food was fine if not a bit underwhelming all the way around and was a bit pricey for a couple of the menu items. The bottomless mimosas for $22 isn't bad and they continued to refill those for 3+ hours (though to be fair we were one of like 4 tables in the entire place for the whole afternoon). Roofers Union is a mixed bag. I love their rooftop, especially on a warm evening, and their drinks are fairly good. However I went for bottomless brunch and did not feel like it was anything special. The bottomless was priced fairly, but the mimosas were mostly orange juice and my waffle was pretty mid-range. The service is consistently pretty good, but not necessarily anything to write home about. Will be back for the rooftop but probably not for bottomless brunch, especially with so many other options in the city. read more

Frequent patron in the previous iteration and decided to check it out under the new ownership. To be honest, it left a lot to be desired. On the main level, service was slow - it took an age for one of our party to get his sandwich, long after others had received their food. Vegetarian options are essentially limited to French fries and cheese puffs. I ordered a side of sweet potato fries, and they were delivered with another person's order on their plate to much confusion. Food was okay otherwise - the mini duck tacos were indeed mini and people in our group liked the chipotle chicken sandwich enough though thought it could have more chicken. Overall we preferred the old menu. The beer options are more limited than previously (and no more pitchers for larger groups), though the cocktails are much expanded, which is nice. The house red was something I'll avoid ordering again in the future. The rooftop has much better ambiance than before and has an expanded cocktail list. If you're a cocktail person, this place would be nice. If you're expecting a similar good beer selection and easy elevated bar food, less so. read more

Roofers Union is constantly changing the hours and days it's open, without updating its Google or Yelp pages. It's befuddling that a mainstream commercial enterprise in a major American city hasn't learned to update its hours on Google at this point. YOU HAVE TO WALK UP TO THE DOOR AND READ WHICHEVER IS THE LATEST SIGN THEY'VE PRINTED OUT ON PAPER IN ORDER TO GET AN UPDATE. Fortunately there are other places in Adams Morgan to go to, but don't plan around this one.
