Have loved Her Diner for forever and never left a review. The ambiance, the community, the employees - all great. They've been super accommodating for a birthday party whose numbers kept changing and were super kind and fun. I come a lot to sit at the bar and watch women's sports and I always enjoy the vibes, cocktails, and food. The summer special key lime coconut martini was so weird in the best way, creamy, tart, wild. Staples like Susie's egg rolls are always on point too. read more

I'll give her another try when I'm in the mood for a drag show and pricey - elevated (I hope) diner food. First visit was rough because, y' know, we were both expecting an actual diner experience- mid- low price points and/or generous portions, super late hours, quick informal service. It took quite a while for service, at least 10 to 15 minutes, to come to our table even though the place was nearly empty. And even though it was one of those super hot humid DC evenings, we had to ask for water, and even that took another five minutes before we got it. During the next three or four minutes while we were waiting on the server to return again we decided to leave because we were both looking for quick, relaxed, & a little bit better price points. And with a real 24 hour hopping diner a couple blocks away, it was an easy call to switch locations. I wish this diner all the best and I super love the concept & community aspect, but when I want American comfort food , I usually don't need or want elevated cuisine. If I'm gonna drop some coin for food it's rarely going to be on American diner / comfort food. Unless it's a really outstanding brunch menu. That's probably what I'll come back and try next time. read more

I ordered a patty melt, which was described on the menu as coming on Japanese milk bread but came on regular white bread. It was a fine burger itself though, but nothing to write home about and fairly pricey ($16) and the side of fries was $9. The cajun fries were seasoned well, but a bit too thick cut for my liking. Cute bar restaurant on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. It's a sports bar/restaurant and they often have a lot of small events at night. Food is not bad. Also they have a good selection of mocktails. I had sweet potatoes fries and chicken tenders. Service is also good. read more

Her Diner does, indeed, serve (insert painting nails emoji). The inside is a neon heaven with like six screens showing six different things (love), and it's retro diner decor with a modern twist does not let you down. The food itself is also fantastic, simply loved the potatoes and omelette, and everyone must order the donut holes to start. Anywhere that serves grits with breakfast is a real winner in my eyes. Whether you're a her or not, you must make a brunch (or dinner or in-between) reservation next time you're looking for a good time! read more

I enjoyed the overall feel and love it is queer focused. The service was fast and friendly. However, it was incredibly loud and had trouble hearing just across with table with the diner a quarter full. The food and drinks also left a lot to be desired. read more

Atmosphere was really neat! The food was okay, the chicken inside the buffalo chicken wrap could have been crispier but the mozz sticks and salmon were delicious. The service was also just okay! Not necessarily somewhere we would seek out again but if someone wanted to go and asked us to tag along we would go again! I will say, it was pretty loud in there, I think it was the echo of others. We often felt like we were yelling at each other across the table. If you get overstimulated with constant loud noises easily like I do, just be aware that this may not be the place for you! First, I'd love to shoutout the owner Kelly for being an amazing visionary! This place is so unique and cozy and thoughtfulness of the design details speaks to the heart of the owner. Staff: amazingly friendly and very hospitable! Thank you to everyone who worked the bar, prepared the food, seated guests, or even bus tables-the work came with a smile and that a rare restaurant find. Decor: allow me to elaborate on the decor because it's a time capsule adorned with vintage pieces. The booths, the bar, the dining area-AH! I love it! But, let's acknowledge the restrooms...honey! One restroom is dedicated to THE Queen Bey and get this, when you open the doors, you'll immediately hear a Bey classic playing on the speakers inside. And if that wasn't enough to make you fangirl, I went over to the other restroom and the material girl herself, Madonna, can be heard in the speakers and seen on the wall decor. Both restrooms have so much personality! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Drinks: baby these bartenders didn't come to play! They are mixologist and take their craft seriously. Let's acknowledge that I originally had a reposado tequila cocktail with pineapple juice (not pictured) and it was DELICIOUS! But the star up to contend against the rest is their espresso martini...ooowee this drink didn't come to play around and I'd love to see it go up against some of the others in the District because I can see it coming out on top...it's just that good! Signed: a dedicated espresso martini drinker! Pictured but not sampled: Kelly was playing around with a few drinks and the Betty White Cosmo was a golden girl approach to a cute evening! Ask for it! Food: I ordered their wings fried hard with a side of ranch and BBQ sauce. These wings were seasoned to perfection and fried perfectly! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside (pauses as my mouth waters again) they were delectable to the bone! Is this place good for groups? ABSOLUTELY! Grab the crew and visit their happy hour which ends at 7pm. Is there parking nearby? Parking is tight but you wouldn't want to drive here anyway because the drinks are worth having a few-take a cab! Really wanted to like this place. Loved it under its previous management/ownership as Duplex Diner. Unfortunately, the service and food just did not live up to my expectations. The ambiance is cute and they did a good job with the interior, though it lost some of its previous divey charm for the sake of a more polished look. The server seemed distracted and we had to flag him down multiple times to get his attention, though he seemed to be new and in the process of getting trained. The menu was confusingly large and convoluted and the drinks were substantially overpriced, especially for being on 18th in Adams Morgan. To top it off, the food was under-seasoned and poorly executed. The pesto special was very bland (I've never known a pesto dish to be bland). The burger was overcooked, overpriced, underseasoned, and had wild proportions of red onion and what seemed to be iceberg lettuce. This is all in contrast to the phenomenal burgers nextdoor at Lucky Buns and under previous owners. Overall, overpriced, meh service, and one of the worst burgers I've had in recent memory. I hope that they can make changes to improve and I look forward to giving them a second chance once they do. read more

I really wanted to like Her Diner, I really did. The vibes incredible- love the themed bathrooms and the server was super nice. But the food was such a miss, I'm hoping it was an off day for them. I think their oil wasn't hot enough for something because the chicken tenders tasted soggy and were exceptionally greasy. The fried pickles were a disappointment (4 spears for 12 dollars) because the breading kept falling off. It was nicely seasoned but it couldn't save it. Got a basket of fries for 10 dollars which was not salted and also quite sad that they weren't worth the price. I thought my friend got a salad but he got nachos which were served in a bowl with a lot of lettuce, tomatoes, and you had to search a little for the chips. read more

I stopped by this place with a friend when visiting DC. It was an easy, casual space to grab a bite to eat and a drink. It's not upscale, but neither of us expected it to be. It is comfortable and satisfying---nothing more and nothing less. What was particularly appealing was its easy-to-get-to location and the transitional nature of the space. We started with dinner and drinks, which were fine, and stayed for Drag Race trivia and a drag show. The service was friendly and attentive. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Her Diner again, but if I were nearby or someone offered it as a suggestion, I would be happy to go. read more

We went for Dawn's regularly scheduled "Sloppy Saturday," and we loved it. The drag queens were fun, the night was themed, and the staff were great. We arrived approximately 30 minutes before the official start of the event, and we were able to find a seat, order drinks, and a snack. In classic drag queen fashion, we ended up starting late, but the funds raised this particular week were for a good cause (scholarships), and a good time was had by all. The menu items are unique, and most feature fun names ("Down with the Patriarchy," anyone?). The space is uniquely suited for drag shows. We sat a two person table situated along the performance space up against the wall. There were booths along the other walls, and some patrons sat on the upper level above our table, which gave them a great vantage point while still permitting them to reach the queens with their tips. I really hope Her Diner finds continued success. The LGBTQ+ community is always in need of such fun, quirky, and safe spaces. read more

Her Diner was a total vibe with both a Beyoncé and Madonna-themed bathrooms. Walking in for lunch on a Sunday the staff was able to find a table for 5 outside for us. Generally, the staff was very kind and checked in on us multiple times authentically wanting to know how they could better serve us. The food was decent if not a bit bland. I got an omelette that sat in oil and had very plain potatoes on the side, my coworker had a quesadilla that was just fine and my other coworkers meals (2 more omelets and a burger) were fine enough. read more

I went to Her Diner with a group of 11. We started with a group of 10 and they accommodated us last minute. The diner has a relaxed comfortable vibe. They have plenty of TVs in the space. I ordered the Big Gay Breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage was very good. The potatoes were well cooked but under seasoned. They didn't have must taste. My wife ordered the burrito and pancakes. She replaced the meat in the burrito with potatoes. She really enjoyed her burrito. We were very surprised the diner doesn't have veggie meat options on the menu. My wife would love some Morningstar or Beyond sausage patties. They didn't have hot chocolate. I was pretty surprised at that. It's the perfect place to order a spiked hot chocolate. read more

Perfect location and well needed for the area. DC didn't have a queer restraunt open before they opened. We came on "NYE Eve" and it was absolutely packed. (Love that for them). The one turn off I would say is, when we walked up and asked for a table of 2, we were met with "we don't have seating for 2 but you can sit at the bar". Thankfully there were 2 spots open (and no more). So we sat there. The hostesss was within ear shot and we continued to hear that throughout our dining experience. They apparently don't have a wait list or didn't offer it to anyone which would be a huge recommendation. The bartender was nice and the drinks were strong. They did not have top shelf liquor which made it hard to order. For example, their vodka options were stoli and sobieski and whisky options was Jim Beam and not sure the others. As for the food, they have a decent variety. We went with the chicken tendies and chicken quesadilla. Quesadilla you can't make wrong and was good. The tendies had good breading but desperately needed salt. Overall a good place to meet up with Friends. read more

My bestie and I were long time fans of Duplex Diner, the predecessor to Her Diner, so we eagerly awaited the newest incarnation of this space. It is wonderful! We went for brunch recently and it did not disappoint! Great service, drinks flowing freely, friendly vibe and a filling hearty meal - what more do you need? The new owners have given the place a nice refresh while maintaining the neighborhood diner aspect. I loved how the "Madonna bathroom" got a fabulous upgrade and they created a unique new bar design with a nod to the old Duplex. The menu is full of diner favorites and a great value amidst the pricey DC dining scene. Looking forward to many more great meals, brunches and events at Her Diner! read more

I wanted to like Her Diner and I may go back. But my first time there was very disappointing. It was so loud you had to yell at each other to be heard. When I asked the manager if the music at the bar could be slightly lowered he told me the owners like it this way. There is no separation between the bar and the dining room at this diner. Back when it was the 18th street diner the burgers were great- not so now. I ordered a Brie burger and the brie was simply put on the burger cold. It was not melted in anyway so the whole burger ended up cold. As I said i will give the place another chance because I think they can fix things. I hope they will because it was always a great place to go. read more
