We went to the Alex Speakeasy and it was cool. The receptionist at the hotel gave us a code to get into the speakeasy. The vibe was older, semi formal, and Gatsby-esque. We ordered the Violette Times and it was delicious. The egg white foam on top was creamy and the flavor was sweet but not overpowering. We saw other people get their gin and tonics in a little bathtub and thought that presentation was very neat. Taking off a star because the drinks are very expensive. Like $30-$40 per drink.

I went here for drinks with friends after dinner in Georgetown and had a great time. The atmosphere was very mellow. The drinks were good and the service was great. I definitely recommend going here if you're looking for a place to grab drinks.

Let me start with the ugly and the bad, then finish with the good! The ugly was is was 90 degrees outside and Air Conditioning was busted and they had the two back doors in the basement opened. The bad was the food which was only French Fries, but some unmelted cheese sprinked on it. The good was that the Elotes which were served on a corn husk was pretty tasty, but lacking something that I cannot put my hand on. Other than that, the drinks were hitting!

Located in the basement and has jazz on Thursdays. We're only here for Storm. He's very talented, full of charisma and very fun to hang out with!! Drinks never disappoint, and you can tell Storm what you like and he'll make something for you... to be honest I'm not quite sure what's on the drink menu here since I always let him decide for me. We've tried some food, they're okay but we prefer the drinks. After all, it's a speakeasy/cocktail bar.

I found this place due to my fellow Yelpers. I was looking for bars that were unique and had four plus star reviews. We already ate dinner so we were looking just to enjoy some libations. I briefly checked out the pictures on Yelp but did not read the reviews so I was unaware of the process. We arrive via walking outside and do not see an entrance separate for the Alex so we tried entering through the hotel entrance of The Graham. The guy at the desk observed our confusion and offered assistance. He informed us of a code we needed to punch in to gain access through the door to the bar. He was very friendly and helpful. We punched the code in and the door unlocked. We walked down the stairs, to which the bar was at the bottom and behind was the seating area. It took a moment to take everything in before we were guided to sit wherever we wanted. We were provided menus and looked through the many options of libations. I believe the bartender was also serving the tables and took our order in a timely manner. I started with the bathtub gin & tonic. It was good but it was more about the presentation. We ordered another round but changed our drinks. All the drinks were decent and a lot of work was put into making them. Since we arrived late, we only had 2 drinks each. Our tab was over $60, which I thought was too much. I would visit again when I have more cash to spend or just for one drink to appreciate the ambiance.

Great spot. Drinks were excellent. Food was good. Table was a little small. Service a bit slow for how few people were there during our early dinner.

One of my favorite speakeasies in DC so far. The vibe of this place is just what I look for in a speakeasy--dark, moody, a sophisticated atmosphere and of course, delicious and unique cocktails! They have a bathtub gin and tonic which is to DIE for! But last time I went I ended up getting a few other cocktails that I loved as well. If you need to get in and don't have the door code, just ask the front desk.

This place is a gem. Located downstairs at the Graham Georgetown hotel it has both the look and feel of a speakeasy. We went on Thursday and the place really didn't get full until around 7pm. They had some live jazz playing so it was a great day of the week to be there. Cocktails were really good although the pigs&peat can use more smoky flavoring, presentation is superb though. Food is good but I honestly didn't expect it to be super good because you go here for drinks.

We came here after a quiet but interesting night at Georgetown. The Alex is located at the downstairs of The Graham hotel. Let the hotel receptionist know that you'd like to visit the Alex, and a code will be given to you that opens the door to the stairs in which you can get to the bar. The feel is very 20s speakeasy, with a cute newspaper menu, bar seating, and more intimate seating also located. There are many drink options, done house creations, classics, and start up variety of liquors that you can order. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. The bar especially stood out to me for its relaxing and welcoming ambience, it was like I was transported back in time and having a relaxing drink. I will certainly stop by again to try a few more creations. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a speakeasy in Georgetown.

Great time here with friends. We had a bit of a wait to get a table but it was a Friday night and there are limited spots. Worth the wait. The staff was wonderful the entire night. Both the drinks and food were amazing. Can't wait to go again!

Better atmosphere then most other speakeasies in DC. Drinks were excellent. Food was good and a nice variety of real meals on the menu.

It's a sexy basement vinyl den with additional outdoor seating, 10/10 unique cocktails, and incredible Japanese inspired small plates. Between two visits, we have tried 6 different drinks. They are named after songs and listed on the back of a fake vinyl cover. Each costs around $20, but with the mandatory tip and tax, it comes to around $26-28 per drink. The since I left you, though, is worth every penny. It is similar to an old fashioned but a little sweeter, with bourbon (makers mark), and while the menu says it also has miso, blackberry, cardamom, and cacao, I wouldn't say those flavors come through. But it is one of the best cocktails being served in DC right now. It is so good. They serve it with a cardamom tuile that is delicious as well. There is a lot of variety on here, but my number 2 is the Roses, a bright red gin based drink with a hint of fruitiness and a spicy kick in the back end. If you want something a little sweeter, the Takeover is a cognac based drink with coffee notes served with a mini donut. The food is exceptionally well seasoned and so flavorful. The fried chicken cannot be missed, and I love that you can get it in half or full size portions. The shrimp tempura might be even better. You get four large pieces that are super crisp and have a little orange sauce on them. Amazing. Our second visit we tried their chips and dip, and these potato chips alone are worth a visit. Large, crunchy, and served with a tasty ranch dip. I think 2 dishes is good for two people to fill you up, but add a third if hungry. The place is quite expensive, but they are worth it. For a date night, they are a great choice. Four drinks and three dishes shared between two people came to around $195, but as of this review, they are offering a $30 off deal if you pay through the app In Kind. Bonus points because the first time we came, they seated us maybe 5 minutes after our reservation time, and they gave us a free glass of cava. Top notch customer service right there

This bar is sweet -- awesome music, a neat menu, truly craft cocktails, and a unique menu. We tried several cocktails and each was delicious - from spicy to sweet, they don't miss. We also tried the cheese burger egg rolls and the tuna hand roll. The food is expensive for what you get but it's advertised to be small bites, not a meal. The egg rolls felt like remixed in n out, and as a Californian, I was grateful. Why not 5 stars? With the premium pricetag, I do expect premium service. The bartender was more interested in chatting with some folks he knew who came to sit at the bar. He also spent a lot of time chatting up the couple next to us, so do sit at the bar if you're feeling social. However, for the spare attention he did provide us, he was a bit condescending when we asked for a different glass for a drink that came in a bowl. It was slow until the very end of our stay and yet there were several times where I had an empty glass for a long period (and wanted to order more) or needed water. FYI for 6 drinks and a few bar bites it was $165... we went for a cheap burger dinner afterwards!

I know reservations are probably highly recommended, but we were fortunate to walk in at just the right moment and snag a seat. The seating is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening. The atmosphere is just my style, an elegant, dark, grown and sexy vibe that really sets the mood. The decor is striking, with thoughtful touches that create an inviting space to unwind. While it leans a bit on the pricier side, the exceptional service more than justifies the cost. Jordan and the team were incredibly knowledgeable about both the drinks and food menu, offering suggestions that perfectly matched our tastes. We tried two standout drinks that I can't recommend enough: the Attractive Nuisance and El Tiburon, (which is an Old Fashioned made with gin). The bartenders here clearly know what they're doing, each drink was crafted with care and precision. The good music in the background added to the overall ambiance, making it a delightful spot to spend an evening.

Ambiance: from the outside you'd have no idea that a hidden treasure awaits you up a flight of stairs. The decor was very mysterious, perfectly dimmed, and sexy. They added greenery near the hostess station to create what I would describe as an exotic/jungle vibe. This area also contained a beautiful small bar and a few cozy seatings. Next, the hostess led us to a table inside where the magic of candles, cozy tables, and intimate booths immediately meets your eyes. Did I mention that we sat in most comfy green velvet chairs in our cozy booth? How sexy! Service: our waiter, Jordan, was the best! He provided great service and recommendations. However, shoutout to the rest of the staff because it was truly all hands on deck. Drinks: the bartender is indeed a mixologist! There is no question of the magic he created in a glass. Her drink- I ordered the Attractive Nuisance, an elevated spritz. The drink was perfectly balanced with flavors to include G.H. Mumm Champagne, Avua Prata Cachaca, Cocchi Americano, Saffron, Vanilla. I literally tasted all the flavors in the drink and the liquor ratio was just right. Of course I went with another round, you simply have to try it understand why I did. His drink: El Tiburón-Let's just say that he said that this is now one of his favorite cocktails because it was smooth! Small bites: the kitchen was out of mussels and their famous donuts so we decided to try the Franks en Crute, the sexy adult version of pigs in a blanket lol. Such a delicious treat, well balanced flavors giving both sweet (flaky puff pastry) and savory (well grilled wagyu beef). Definitely recommend. The music was perfect for the evening! The bar was filled with all matured folks enjoying their group meets or dates, the atmosphere welcomed all. As I stated earlier, this has now become a regular on the list and I'm excited to visit again.
