The dance party gets off the chain and there is plenty of room to go with a group and have a good time. most people head into the dance floor room so it's also easy to get drinks at the bar. They have a bathroom attendant sometimes which i hate but otherwise I love the atmosphere here and there are people there dressed in clubbing clothes and casual clothes so you can really go in anything. I went to celebrate a friends 21st. We had some people who were under 21 with us, and the dude checking IDs at the door was not too friendly or clear on what the policy was. We just wanted dinner... Everyone got different stuff, but most people had the brisket and said it was good. I split calamari as an appetizer and it was great, will definitely order again! For dinner I had the fried chicken, with mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese. The chicken itself was a little salty, but crispy. Overall decent (I'm from the south, we have better chicken). The potatoes were great, but the Mac and cheese wasn't as good as I wanted it to be... Too fake cheese tasting... We also had the giant hat filled with punch which was great! I got the Heidenberger Burger which came with their russian sauce which unlike most russian sauce places was much thinner and spicer than i'm accustomed to. Most places russian sauce is like thousand island. I'm part russian and I don't even know what it's supposed to taste like... Pecan Cup (5/5 NOMs) I been craving pecan pie for month, but sadly they are not in season yet (or so was I told, booo). So as soon as I saw this on the menu, I knew regardless how over stuffed my tummy felt, I'm getting me some PECAN PIE! Oh my this was excellent. My mouth was exploding in flavor orgasms. I usually don't like room temperature pecan pies, but this tasted surprising good for not been cold. Its all the pecan crack they put in it. This really hit the spot and satisfied my nomster pecan cravings. If you love pecan pie as much as me, then you must order this. Turkey Burger (4/5 NOMs) Bring on the turkey burger goodness. I don't usually order turkey burgers, but I felt I should change that up. This was a solid burger and good menu choice. Of course like any burger I added fried egg on top! You simply can't have a a burger without one. It was a veyr juicy and soft meat patty that just melted in my mouth. It comes topped with a veyr nice light and fluffy bun. Got a nightclub experience here and there were a few very shady and sleezy people trying to get with the girls in my group. If we didn't have our male friend with us getting them to go away, I'm not sure what would have happened. One guy looked clearly very high and nodding on something. I think the bouncers could be more attentive. Also, the coat check was a bit shady. It looked like they just threw my jacket and scarf on a pile instead of hanging up and what not. Also came here for brunch on Valentine's Day. Bartender was very nice and attentive. Got a waffle with home fries. The waffle was a bit soggy, but still decent. Never made it to the home fries. I had an altercation with the older bartender who works on Monday evening. I was denied service because of this employee. Working in the hospitality industry for over 10 years, I have never had an experience where a patron was denied service because of a particular employee who was working that evening. To deny a repeat guest for one instance with a single employee who works ONE night out of the week is completely absurd. ​I have been coming to Madhatters for over 2 years and have NEVER had any conflict with any of the other employees. I am truly displeased with the fact that this employee virtually met no consequences for getting into a physical alteraction with a customer , let alone a woman. I will be getting the owners contact info . Because to be denied service at a bar where I pay money for services to be denied by said service when the employee is of Caucasian decent feels a lot like segregation as a black woman. I am truly disgusted with how the managers have handled this situation. And then to tell me that I can't come on a certain day because he is working is quite astonishing. To allow him to not service me, but still allow him to work , and not provide any accommodations for me as a patron is just bad business. I am highly disappointed with this experience and overall how the managers at madhater chose to glaze over a situation with such severity and not take any real action aside from denying service to PAYING patron. read more

Eclectic neighborhood restaurant/bar. LONG bar that seats probably 30 people. Great decor, decent background music. There is a large dining room and a patio out back. We sat at the bar. Arrived during happy hour. We were NOT disappointed in their offerings. Fantastic appetizers - we got cheese sticks, buffalo wings, nachos, and chicken tenders. The Salmon Salad was a generous portion of salmon served over all mixed greens with a good balance of accompanying salad veggies. Great flavor on everything! The food also arrived very quickly! The bartenders were very attentive and anticipated our needs through the entire visit. Ruth was our main bartender, but the other male bartender was friendly as well. But one of our party quickly received their wings two of us waited another ten minutes for the waitress to come back to retake our order. The wings had absolutely no sauce or seasoning on them. If you find yourself near Dupont Circle around lunch time, you owe it to yourself to try the $5 burger special at The Madhatter. A hearty burger, surrounded by the side of your choice, and with a drink; let's just say that $5 deals don't get much better than in Dupont. The Madhatter is just that, a cedar-lined upscale sports bar tastefully decorated with artwork from the fabled Alice in Wonderland character. I first found myself at The Madhatter in the spring of 2010 at a Yelp sponsored event. The bar's great location and it's vibe have kept me coming back. It's not uncommon to come to the bar during the evening and find its an occupied, but not overtly crowded experience. Unless you're barhopping late Friday or Saturday night, finding a barstool or table isn't 'too' hard. The music is pretty decent, and the bar tends to show one sporting event or other--be it golf or football--on one of their huge projectors. All in all, it's a pretty neat place. After hearing so much hoopla about this place, I finally caved and attended a 20+ person celebratory Saturday brunch. I am a fan. They have a few private party rooms to accommodate obnoxious and unruly parties, such as ours was, and this worked out perfectly. The brunch is a pre-fix style: you have about 8 brunch meal options AND unlimited mimosas for a solid price of $30. After gratuity (included) and tax, the total came to $40. I would say that is a deal! The food itself is not bad at all either! I opted for the tex-mex breakfast burrito, it was perfectly cut in half for hand-held eating success. It was meatless but tasted amazing! The breakfast potatoes that accompanied it were a little on the bland side, but that is an easy fix with some ketchup. Most everyone else ordered either the steak breakfast burrito or the steak & eggs combo. They said it wasn't the worst steak they have ever had, and for the price they were pleasantly pleased. Most of our large party couldn't even finish their breakfasts, having filled up on mimosas - which leads me to my other thought. They severely underestimated the amount of mimosa carafes required for our table size. They brought them out fairly consistently, but with only 4 carafes for our entire party at a time... Maybe I'm getting old. Or maybe I'm not old enough to be creepy on young girls. Or maybe this place is just meh for me. The music is meh. The people are meh. And the atmosphere reminded me too much of the college scene. Which I'm somewhat over. I will say they do have a cute little deal for a fruity drink in a very larger "Madhatter's Hat" that is fun to get with a group. Is it worth your buck? Depends which bartender is making it for you and how much you were willing to tip them on earlier drinks ^.~ Unless you are completely plastered and you like meh music with meh people rubbing all up and against your sweaty dirty little body that hasn't worked out in 3 years, this may not be the best place for you. Basic. The place is big but the seating is awkward. For tables of 2; seating is lined up on the middle of the floor down the aisle. The bathroom is TINY. The staff is pleasant though. As for the food...I think homemade breakfast at you home in your own kitchen would be better. The Biscuit was thick and dry, the eggs were a little hard and the potatoes I believe may have been sitting out. We ordered and he food showed up in 5 minutes. This bar gives me panic attacks, and I rarely have anxiety. Do you like being packed in a place like a sardine, drunk men fist bumping to the Macarena, and 21 years old's spilling their drinks on you? If yes, well then this is the place for you!! In my opinion, the whole scene is just terrible. I think the only appealing thing about Mad Hatter is that they give you a giant hat with a mixture of watered down margarita mix and bud light and/or some other crappy light beer mixed in. Grab a straw and sip out of a giant plastic hat with one or 20 of your closest friends. I've only been here during weekend nights and haven't tried the food. The drinks here are average and you shouldn't expect them to be any different than other bars. I think the 'hat drink' is unique to this bar, so it's quite popular. At the times I visited, I never had to pay a cover (bonus!). Staff is pretty lenient when it comes to getting in. Another plus is that there is a good mix of people, and for the most part the crowd can be very lively. There was always a DJ playing live - people will practically dance anywhere on the main level which can be fun. There is a second floor where you can order drinks as well. This bar does get very crowded so expect to push through multiple people when walking around. read more

The Madhatter is a cool, unique restaurant in Dupont, due to its dual role as restaurant and night club. The food is great at both brunch and dinner, and the drinks are always super delicious and reasonably priced. At brunch, nothing tops their mimosas, and at night, the fish bowls are fun and delicious. The only downside is they are insanely strict about sitting tables until everyone is present. Twice, I've gone in groups of four, where two people arrive at the restaurant first, and are forced to stand in the tiny entrance, waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. One of those times the restaurant was half empty, so that was super annoying for our on-time guests. read more

Waitress was nice but pretty inattentive once we placed our order. Was told I could get blue cheese crumbles on my burger and got a dressing instead that may have been blue cheese salad dressing but also was maybe ranch. Burger wasn't terrible though. The advertised "dining room with unique decor" is just 5 Alice in wonderland posters. Everything was kind of dirty/sticky, and one of the ladies toilets was covered in throw up. We go here every Thurs/Sat for UCLA games upstairs (they give us most of the upstairs for UCLA alumni. Food specials are meh, $1 hot dogs are so-so. The onion rings are alright, a little too bready for me. They offer these weird beer dispensers for your table (sort of like a mini keg) that can get about 5 beers out of it (but gets pretty warm). Overall, a pretty meh place when it comes to food and drink. But they have a ton of tvs, so its a decent sports bar. read more

Almost a year later and my opinion of the Madhatter has changed for the better. Since I work in the area, the Madhatter has become a favorite happy hour spot of mine. AYCD BRUNCH!!! I doesn't get any better than that. I hit this spot up before I left D.C. The decor is a play off of Alice and wonderland...not to much so it's not cheesy. Food is standard brunch...we got the steak and eggs..w/ the AYCD add on. They are definitely going to keep your glass full which makes for a happy patron!
