I loved the aesthetic of this place. The outdoor patio vibe was nice, especially on a beautiful sunny day. They have a variety of coffees and teas to choose from, and they serve some food as well. I didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff, but the lady who served me, as well as the other girl who gave me the restroom code, were nice. They were able to serve me the coffee I ordered fairly quick as well. I got the Lofty-Style NOLA. I was pretty excited to try this drink since the blend of the chicory, vanilla & mint were somewhat unique to me. However, when I got my first taste of it, let's just say it was a disappointment. My drink was so watered down, you can barely taste the coffee or any of the other flavors that were supposed to be in the drink. And it's a pretty pricey cup of coffee. I'm not sure if this is an isolated event and I was just given a bad version of it since I've seen other positive reviews for this particular drink, but sadly, I don't think I'll be back. When you order a good cup of coffee, the first thing you usually notice is the strong aroma of coffee and then followed by that bold flavor once you get your first sip of it. Got a croissant with turkey that on its own was very light but satisfying, however it was doused in some kind of oil/dressing that I wasn't a fan of. Many house-made ingredients which is nice to see, and you can definitely taste the quality, but I also wasn't the biggest fan of my latte. This one is on me though, I decided to ask for some cardamom in it and I think that's what brought it from rich and delightful to kind of a challenge to finish. I'd be willing to try it again. I hadn't been before and met a friend for coffee. I ordered an 8 oz flat white with heavy cream from the ap and paid over $7 when it was all said and done. I love that it was organic and the coffee tasted good, but it was way over priced. If they are going to charge that much, it should at least have been a 12 oz cup of coffee. I eat organic at home and understand that quality ingredients cost more, but that was a bit too much for me to warrant a second visit. Sorry, I can't recommend. read more

Please do not even get me started. I work next door to Lofty's State street location, and I am absolutely, completely obsessed, enamored and in LOVE. I CRAVE the "Cloudy with a chance of cold brew" so hard sometimes I can barely stand it. When I say "crave" that means I can literally almost taste it every day I pull up to work. I DREAM ABOUT THIS COFFEE!!! Not to mention it will leave you absolutely seeing colors caffeinated. So bomb!!!!!!!! At 7 bucks a pop, is this an expensive obsession? Yes, It absolutely is. But lofty has ruined me forever and I will make room in my budget for it. The positives: there are doggies EVERYWHERE. So happy. The coffee is dank AF. The food. UGH. I LOVE the croissant with sausage, egg, arugula, and TOMATO jam. (Life changing) The American: Turkey sandwich, pickles, aged cheddar, sweet onion, multigrain bread with a mustard aioli that will knock your socks off AND it comes with a Caesar salad on the side. What I love is that the Caesar comes not chopped but with little Romain leaves that are perfect to pick up and eat almost like chips. Wonderful for taking a bite of the salad, and then a bite of pickle spear, then a bite of your sandwich... you get the idea. Flavor explosion. TBH honest I have not tried anything else food wise, but based up the tastiness of what I'm hooked on, I could imagine it's all good. Negatives: sometimes a long wait, not often enough to drop a star. The longest wait I've had after ordering online was 25 mins. Not big enough for me to drop a star, but something to keep I mind if you're in a hurry. With all that said Lofty is not a run in and run out establishment like Starbucks (who could never hold a candle). Also the ambience is AWESOME!!!! Airy, open and slightly industrial. 3.5-4 stars but giving them grace since they opened last week in Carlsbad. Background, I'm a big fan on the Encinitas lofty coffee and their ethos and quality so came here on a Sunday morning 11am. They were slammed and so busy. It looks like they are still figuring out the flow. There's lots of seating patio outdoor but the line was all wild. The line was wrapping through the tables and people were not busing their dirty dishes so the open tables were messy. The bar seating had hooks underneath which I'm always a fan of (for bags/purses). Our order: I ordered cortado and the sausage egg cheddar croissant. Husband got a house coffee but they were so busy they ran out of mugs for here (no big deal). The food wait was 30 minutes which the cashier did confirm with me if that was okay. Croissant came out a little extra toasted but the flavor was good and they didn't skimp on the sausage. Their paper goods and utensils were compostable, bonus points. Parking is street parking, no sure if there is a lot but they are building the Commons space next door. I like the way this lofty location is laid out, making the most of SoCal and being outdoors! The service is always fast and friendly as well. I wish they had was more consistency when it comes to their food/drinks. I'll get great chai lattes for like two weeks and then it'll taste like dirty water. Or we'll find a breakfast fav (like their toast and eggs plates) and it'll be great for a while and then the eggs will be just about raw (I'm into a runny yolk but a runny everything is a little nasty). I can't even say this only happens when they're slammed and having a huge breakfast rush. It seems to unfortunately just be at random. We live in Torrance, so we aren't in the area much, but this is an obligatory stop for us whenever we are down here! We stop here on our way to Legoland - less than 10 min away. The salted caramel latte with almond milk is my favorite coffee treat hands down! Poached eggs with toast and hummus and the toast with hummus and avocado are our favorite savory snacks from here. The avocado toast is absolutely delicious but we've switched to the above order because it's easier to eat/share. The açaí bowls here are the best! Okay so there are a couple Lofty locations, four to be exact (C'bad, La Costa, Solana, and Encinitas). Although, if we wanna get technical, there are five. Because across Coast Hwy from the flagship store in Encinitas, is another Lofty. The one on the west side of Coast is easier in my opinion--because the parking lot at the flagship is super tight with limited spaces. (Maybe 10? One handicap.) Okay now onto the coffee. I made the "mistake" of ordering the Salted Caramel Latte and can't bring myself to try anything else! It's heaven in a cup. Literally the smoothest "covfefe" (I got jokes) I've ever had. The C'bad location is the most consistent with my order, whereas the Encinitas (flagship) seems to be hit-or-miss with how well it's gonna come out. And, since it's an $8 cup of coffee.... ($6 + $2 tip)..... I expect nothing less than perfection. Does that sound entitled? Probably. Meh. I saw the Fellow pour over and kettle set up in the store and after a bit of research decided to purchase. I did so online though just out of convenience. IT IS A FABULOUS SET UP!!! **Highly recommend** (The XF pour over and carafe plus the kettle. You can thank me later.) If you're looking for a good sit down coffee with a friend, do C'bad location. If you have a larger group and want to hang out longer than a coffee/snack/meal... go to the flagship (SO MUCH SPACE!). If you want quick--Encinitas second location. I stopped by the Village location during the biannual faire and had the most amazing latte and avocado toast. But the avocado toast was $12, took 30 minutes to get to me, and was only one slice! Don't get me wrong it was delicious and filling, but it did hurt a bit to pay $12 and wait half an hour for them to prepare one pretty slice of bread. But the garnishes were fresh, the hummus was tasty, and I had a nice break. I'll definitely come by again, just maybe not for the avocado toast.
