I came here with my family for a birthday dinner, and had mixed feelings about the food. The kung pao tofu and the eggplant dish were both tasty and were worth the order. The vegetable fried rice was fine, but not much else to say about that. The Mongolian chicken was mixed in with so much onion that it was outweighing the amount of chicken, but it was also very salty compared to all of the other dishes. The spicy pan-fried noodle was also a let down as it was neither spicy nor had any notable taste. I would not order either of those two again. The ambiance and seating was fine and service was good but because of the food issues above, I will have to give a lower rating.
My friend and I offered chicken wings, jjajangmyeon, and the sauteed string beans and everything was delicious. The staff were attentive and even packed our leftovers. I'm definitely coming back for the food and the vibes because it did feel like you were dining in someone's home bc of how the ambiance felt.
Best sit down Chinese food in Milpitas for lunch! Spacious seating, music low for conversations to be heard. Food was served rapidly and warm. Pearl the owner was very friendly definitely will be returning.
Get the 两张皮 (liang zhang pi) it's so good. Came with a very try strong mustard sauce but is so good if you like a kick. We got the large and the amount of food is crazy for 2 people. I love the variety of toppings they put in there too, including seafood, vegetables and meat. The black bean sauce noodles were ok, sauce is bit too salty for me and the noodle texture was too soft in my opinion. They only have 2 side dishes, kimchi and pickled radish, they were both ok. The place is pretty big with not a lot of customers on a Sunday night, a good find!
Koong's has been here for awhile. Serves a diverse clientele. Menu's in Chinese, Korean, & English. Minimal decor, layback ambience. Offerings: seafood, vegetables, fried rice, noodles, soups, poultry, pork, beef, appetizers, salad... Eats: steamed shrimp & pork dumplings (12/10.95) -came in various sizes, tasted as if freshly made. Small shrimps crunchy, slightly sweet. Grounded pork ok. -dipping sauce shined with a sweet, tart & salty blend. *best rendition tasted in years! Jajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodle 15.95) -sauce sweet & over salty notes. Lotsa noodles that didn't taste like hand pull noodles, slightly mushy. -mixed with white onions, cucumber slices, big portion. Expected more ingredients. Probably order wrong. Many choices with few details. 4.5 stars would order jjampong next time. Leftovers: Koong's is a Chinese eatery, wasn't expecting banchan which others tables got in pics. Didn't check date. -was ordering in Chinese, server spoke in English. Had to ask for Kuai zi (chopsticks) later since i only got a fork & spoon.
Second time here. Both visits it was pretty good. We had 3 people this day and we ordered Jajangmyeon, Jjiamppong, Eggplant Garlic, Dry Chicken Wings and Sweet and sour pork. They do Korean-Chinese style food. All the dishes we got so far were yum. Classic choices over here. It definitely satisfied our cravings. The Jajangmyeon could have had better noodles but overall it was comforting. The Jjamppong was yummy and had just enough spicy The Eggplant Garlic sauce was kind of lacking freshness The Dry chicken was chewy and had great flavor The Pork was nicely done and the sauce well made Great experience here with the workers. They were really nice! And the inside was clean. Private lot in front!!
Koong's is alright. The food here is decent with a really big serving size. I found the Black Bean Noodle to be a bit salty and the crispy pork to be a little underwhelming. They also give hot tea for free with the food. Nothing out of the usually for service and the area. I'll come back to try more.
Today I felt like doing some Stir-Fried Noodles. I'm in Silicon Valley this evening. I'm here at Koong's in Milpitas today. I'm familiar with this neighborhood, one of my favorite Poké Shops is right next to here, at Poki Run. I haven't really been to Beresford Square Shopping Center in a long time. I'm having me some Tomato Beef and Egg Chow Fun. This is somewhat more Korean style. This isn't just any Chow Fun, it kinda reminds me of Bò Lúc Lắc, 番茄牛肉燴飯, Kebab, or Pabellón criollo. The Gravy was so flavorful. This was exceptional version of this dish. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.8-4.3 stars, but I give this 4.2/4.3 stars out of 5 stars.
Good for the Seoul Nondescript Mom & Pop run restaurant not too far away from 237 that's seemingly been around for maybe 30-40 years from what I can tell. I'm not sure if it's the original owners or was sold at some point, but the food seems to have stayed consistently good over the years. I wanted to come here after reading Elena C's review of the Liang Zhang Pi (LZP--yeah you know me!) because I'm always curious to try new-to-me dishes and it was a cold, rainy day and figured why the hell not? The Good: *Customer service was friendly, fast, and efficient. *Décor is simple and understated but enough to know one's in an Asian restaurant. *Complimentary hot tea! Seems simple enough, but so many places charge for simple things like this these days. *Who's down with LZP? Everybody! Essentially, it's a cold noodle salad with shrimp, squid, and more veggies than you can shake a chop stick at. The concomitant peanut-wasabi sauce was sweet, spicy, and delightful. *Black Bean Sauce Noodle (aka Jajangmyeon) is a popular Korean noodle dish that we'd tried before, and theirs was delicious. Earthy, sweet, and served with oodles of noodles. *Their Dry-Fried Fried Chicken Wings are nothing short of FANTASTIC! It is so crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. My one complaint was I wish they were a little spicier, but Carissa felt the heat level was fine. *Housemade ban chan (pickled radish and kimchi) were also both terrific. *Servings are massive, and we had plenty for leftovers for the next day. *Prices were very reasonable, especially considering the portion size. The Meh: *Beer was served tepid, at best. Maybe they had just restocked the fridge, and it hadn't come up to temp yet? *I'm a little confused if this place is Chinese, Korean, or just a place that serves up both? It's definitely not fusion, as the two cuisines are definitely held in equal regard. *No outdoor seating The Ugly: *Evidently, not everyone is on-board with the whole cutting the noodles with scissors thing, as I was notified by another Yelper who shall remain nameless. (: TLDR: Come for the LZP, but stay for the wings. Highly recommended.
I think this was pretty good value for the money! I got the Liang Zhang Pi because I saw other reviewers raving about it. The takeout platter was GIGANTIC, but that was mostly due to how they laid out the ingredients. The amount of food itself was pretty generous, but definitely didn't fill the platter. The wasabi sauce was not for me, but the ingredients were good and I liked how much effort they put into the food. Because they're so popular, unfortunately the pickup experience wasn't so great. A ton of people were waiting for pickup orders, and it took me at least 10 minutes to get mine.
Hey y'all, please note that this review is solely based on the quality of customer service I received last night. After a long commute from SF to North San Jose, I was craving Korean food, and I thought it would be efficient to place an order ahead of time. Their online ordering system on Yelp wasn't working!! The restaurant doesn't close until 10 pm, so I had to call to make sure and to try to place my order. Someone picked up after a few rings. She was busy at the moment and asked for me to hold on. That I understand. But, what I don't understand and what frustrates me is that how can a staff member leave a customer on hold for 10 minutes.
This is a good Korean Chinese place that's reasonably priced for some homey food! Jajamyen is so good! There's actually seafood inside, even comes with an egg inside. Unlike other places I've had! Pot stickers were delicious - crispy on outside and yummy dip! Also got the seafood soup that was good! The fried chicken was an overkill, we were so stuffed from all the other carbs We were seated quickly and greeted by the friendly waiter. Will be back again next time!
Came here because wI was craving some chinese food. The owner came and treated us exceptionally well due to us being the only customers. Food was delicious especially the string bean dish. Only thing I did not enjoy were the eggrolls. Everything else was good and price was fair. I love the space and quiet that we got to have a conversation and the booths. Would recommend and come back.

Wow! Our family dropped in after a gymnastics competition for much needed protein and fat! Well the meats here were very lean and EXTREMELY TASTY! We enjoyed Koong's Beef which was exactly like Chinese Peking Beef only a bigger portion - excellent! The Garlic Eggplant was saucy , but also delicious! Oh and the Black Bean Sauce Fish Fillet was also great. What we really enjoyed was just how NOT BUSY this establishment was and how blazingly FAST the food came out! We tried a nearby shopping center Korean place and the wait list was off the hook; yes that likely meant good food. This is a nice family restaurant with a family oriented ambiance. My only wish was that Koong's was closer to Vallejo so we could return often. At least we have a new spot when in the Milpitas area. read more
This is one of our new Goto lunch places for work as they have a large lunch menu with reasonably priced platters that include soup, spring roll, fried or steamed rice, and hot tea. The plates are large and the quality of their meats are really good. Most Chinese restaurants in the area have low quality meat that is chewy...yuck. The place is at the end of a strip mall next to a Supercuts. The interior is clean and the can accommodate larger groups by moving around the tables. Service is fast and friendly at least for lunch. I have had the Mongolian chicken, Kung Pou chicken, Mongolian beef, and a shrimp dish. One of the guys I work with gets a tofu and beef dish not even on the lunch menu at a lunch menu price. If you are looking for quick eats at a reasonable price in the Milpitas area for around $17/person including tax and 20% tip, this is a good choice. read more

Good place to go for lunch specials or sharing family style dishes. I went around lunch time on a Monday so it wasn't busy. The menu has a decent selection. The food tasted really good! We got the Honey Walnut Prawns, Black Bean Sauce Fish Fillet, Chicken & Corn Soup! Was very satisfying. Both entree dishes were evenly coated with sauce and flavorful! Love the chicken & corn soup! Not authentic at all. I ordered jjampong and spicy dried fried chicken. And when I was there, the kitchen was in BIG FIGHT! they were arguing, I can't really understand what they said as they were in Chinese. Jjampong, soup doesn't have any seafood flavor in it. And it is kinda tasteless. Not like the Korean version that I had before Fried chicken. Still ok but very expensive. Not worth the $$. Should just got jollibee and get 10 pieces haha. read more
Came here for korean chinese, was pretty disapointed. Service was slow and they forgot one of our orders until we asked. Dry fried chicken wings 3/5 - Over battered and cooked, but sauce had pretty good flavor. Seafood Jjajangmyun - 2/5, noodles were decent and chewy but the sauce was kind of bland. The chinese food here definitely looked better, but wont be coming back. read more

My boyfriend recommended this place to me a few months ago but I didn't have the chance to go till today. My usual jjangmyeon place is Hong Kong Banjum Paik's but I decided to give this place a try since it's much closer to me. I ordered dry fried chicken wings and black bean noodles online through BeyondMenu. I didn't realize that I had accidentally chosen 7/8 as the pickup date till I got to Koong's but luckily my food was already prepared for pickup. The food was still hot by the time I got home, and I was surprised to see that kimchi, onions and radish were included. There were holes poked into the box holding the chicken wings so that they wouldn't become soggy. The fried chicken wings were delicious but a little bit too salty for what I usually prefer. I've seen reviews comparing these wings with San Tung's but I haven't tried San Tung's wings yet. The black bean noodles were delicious and the black bean sauce was packaged separately from the noodles. Although the wings were a bit too salty I did like the food from Koong's and would go again in the future. They give a good amount of food, so it's good value for the price. read more
Hubby and I came here for dinner on a short notice since were in town and since alot of the restaurants closed due to today being the day after Christmas, I was surprised and yet glad Koong's was open. The reason why I gave 3 stars instead of 5 was because 1) the rice was a bit dry. From my guess, it wasn't completely cooked and 2) they charged for hot tea. There has been rare moments when we were charged for hot tea at a chinese restaurant. This especially being in Milpitas, almost the next asian town next to the chinatown in SF. Other asian restaurants provide free hot tea for their customers. Friendly service tho the price is a bit steeper than what I'm used to. My justification was that this was our 25th anniversary dinner. I do have to say, their Mandarin Spareribs dish is D E L I S H. Their Mongolian beef and Kung Pao chicken was also yummy. I think hubby and I may have found our regular chinese restaurant to go to when we're craving for chinese food. Will we return? Three stars for that honey walnut prawns!!! Ooooweeee I loved the fresh hot crisp large juicy prawns. Batter wasn't too heavy and it wasn't drenched in mayonnaise. Had more of a sweet glazed sauce and the walnuts were crunchy and sweet too. Loved the "fried rice" it came with - real stingy on the eggs so I wouldn't call it fried rice really but it had a nice subtle flavor that accompanied the shrimp well. Now onto my hubbys orders: black bean noodles and sweet and sour pork. The pork sauce was way too sour and meat was dry. The black bean noodles were super bland. We've had these dishes at other restaurants and felt this version paled in comparison. I'd stick to the Americanized Chinese food here! Yum! Portions here are great. We overordered as has been the MO during sheltering so we stock for multiple meals to minimize the number of time having to go out. Food was done before there estimate so thank you. Overall pretty regular. The salt and pepper fish was probably over-battered but good flavor. The beef and string beans consisted of fresh ingredients, tender beef especially. Pork fried rice was underwhelming, particularly the presentation, or I guess appearance. I ordered with pork, which was on the dry side. Mapo tofu, an authentic Taiwanese staple, was prepared spot on - just the right amount of spice and be sure to order this with enough white rice! I might come back I might not. I've only ordered their jajangmyun and jampong. Their noodles are cooked perfectly and gives a great chewiness to the texture. Unfortunately, their broth and flavor of both dishes are quite bland. I do love that they give you the side onions, kimchi, and radish. read more

I'm so happy I found this place! I was craving black bean noodles and decided to give this place a try instead of driving all the way to Banjum Paik. The noodles here are not as "chewy," but I actually like this more. The sauce is also more flavorful and had more meat. I would've liked a "spicy" option but this is still one of my favorite dishes. I also ordered the dry fried chicken wings and wonton in hot chili oil (meh, nothing special about this The chicken wings were pretty good! I think it's spicier than San Tung. It's not as crispy as San Tung, but the flavor was there. Also, they were pretty decent sized wings. I would definitely order this again. read more
My first Yelp review of 2021 and I decided to write about the delicious and excellent services I received from Koong's. If you're ever in Milpitas, you must stop by this Chinese-Korean hidden gem. First of all, they only do take out during the pandemic. They follow strict CDC guidelines so the front of the entrance is actually blocked off. You need to ring the bell for one of the friendly adjumma(s) to come greet you to take your order. They speak tri-lingual too: Chinese, English, and Korean. Pretty impressive! There's also a young male waiter who provides friendly and excellent customer services too! They de-sanitized all the used pens. Now let's talk about the food... listing my favorites in order: 1. Jjamppong- tasty and well-balanced mildly spicy seafood soup- generous portion of seafood 2. Dry Fried Chicken Wings- similar to the famous San Tung restaurant in SF for chicken wings- they are mildly spicy, sweet with a tangy taste- must eat while crispy 3. Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings- Just like any Chinese restaurants, Koong's make these wings juicy and extra crispy even half a day later- very impressed 4. Liang Jiang Pi- a type of Korean-salad used often as appetizers for San Dong banquets; translucent noodles mixed with pork, eggs, shrimp and vegetables over a delicious vinegar hot mustard sauce; it's similar to the mung bean noodles at Great China in Berkeley 5. Honey Walnut Shrimp- texture is very different from the usual honey walnut shrimp we eat at Chinese restaurants. The shrimps are fried almost like a donut where it's fluffy but it's crispy. The walnuts are battered in the right amount of honey so it has the right amount of sweetness. 6. Fish Puffs- I remember eating this years ago and the fish puffs are a chewy delight. 7. Spring Rolls- extra large and crispy dipped in that sweet and sour sauce. It's so fresh and good. 8. Jajamyeong- large portion but the noodles are very fresh that they stick together so you need to mix the warm black bean sauce asap Now if you are a huge K-drama fan like me, then you would know in "It's Okay to Not Be Okay", the main characters' favorite soup noodle is the famous jjamppong! My goodness, that series got me craving for so much jjamppong my husband and I drove to Milpitas from SF Area many times just for the seafood noodle soup! Honestly, everything is so worth a try here! On a side note, the noodle portions are huge! One jjamppong or a bowl of jajamyeon could be a meal for two! Prices are fair too! I would highly recommend coming here if you want delicious Chinese-Korean food! read more
TANGSUYUK - KOREAN STYLE SWEET AND SOUR The year 2020 was SOUR but the year 2021 will be SWEET. There are specific Asian dishes that are my favorite. My favorite soup dish is sinigang, which is my favorite Filipino dish. My favorite noodle soup is ramen. My favorite steam dish is bai qie ji, which is Chinese white cut chicken. My favorite breaded, deep-fried item is tangsuyuk, which is Korean-style sweet and sour sauce. Growing up I was accustomed to the deep red sweet and sour sauce and the bright orange sauce for deep fried items. Something about tangsuyuk is appealing. First it is a clear-based sauce. Second the sauce isn't heavy, which is why I don't feel bloated after eating it. Pork is the meat mostly cooked in tangsuyuk. I was glad to find a restaurant that uses different types of meat for tangsuyuk. The day after New Year's I ordered prawn as a tangsuyuk item. Usually the pork is sliced thin but the prawn was plump. Despite that the prawn in the sweet sauce was delicious. This past Wednesday I ordered beef as a tangsuyuk item. Since the beef was sliced thin I did prefer it more than the prawn. One aspect I like about tangsuyuk is the the meat isn't over breaded and that is probably due to the thinly sliced meat. In addition the slightly breaded meat isn't oily and that's why I could eat tangsuyuk multiple times without feeling nauseated. Yesterday I ordered pork for tangsuyuk. Of all the meat I had in one week for tangsuyuk the pork was the best. The sweet and sour sauce goes best with pork. I'll state that tangsuyuk is better any sweet and sour items at any Chinese or Thai restaurants. If I have a craving for tangsuyuk I definitely will come back to Koong's. Maybe one of these days they'll use chicken as a tangsuyuk item. read more

I was craving SF's San Tung restaurant's famous dry fried chicken wings but did not want to drive an hour to get them. Plus you know parking and the wait can make things worse. I had Koong's bookmarked for awhile and wanted to see if their version was similar. I got to try Koong's over the weekend and ordered 3 dishes, the wontons in chili oil, the black bean and pork noodles and the dry fried chicken wings. The restaurant was busy on a Sunday afternoon but the wait for food was not too long and service was very attentive even though the staff had several large parties to deal with. All of the dishes came out in a timely order with the dry fried chicken wings coming out last. The wontons and black bean noodles were good and were simple. I would have preferred more meat in the black bean noodles but that's about it. The dry fried chicken wings finally came out and I was excited. Appearance wise, they look almost identical to San Tung's but with less of the caramel sauce. The wings were hot and juicy and had a little bit of a spicy kick. The wings definitely satisfied my cravings for San Tung's wings but the only downside, I wished there was more sauce but I think that can easily be solved by asking for more sauce next time and for sure, there will be a next time! read more
This is a family owned place that serves Korean Chinese dishes. I have been here twice to dine but mostly ordered online and it has been an OK experience on all occasions. I did enjoy the two ban chan of pickled radish and fresh cabbage kimchi but just two ban chan variations were just not enough IMO. Since I was craving beef stew noodles, that is what I got and the kiddo got some pot stickers because she wasn't hungry. The lady who I think owns the place was kind enough to ask if we wanted an extra bowl to share the noodles. The service was very good as you do feel the care and attention they provide with their costumers. The tea is hot and well balanced. We enjoyed it as the weather is cold and hot tea is just what we needed. The bowl of noodles came as well as the extra bowl with laddle to use to share it. The noodles were thick and the beef is tender. The texture if the noodles are like soba noodles but a tad thinner. The soup is ok but needed more aromatics like star anise or something to make it robust. I honestly wouldn't order it next time and will prolly opt beef stew from a taiwanese resto. The pot stickers were warm all throughout so I know they took time to cook it. It is tasty and well balanced. The sauce accompanying it was vinegary and needed a bit of soy but other than that it was good. The experience was OK but I will still come for other dishes. read more
I didn't try their other dishes but their black bean noodle is top notch!! It's interesting how they're Chinese restaurant that has Korean dishes. They even give out side dishes for the black bean noodle. Extra star for that!! Love the homemade fresh noodles and they give you a lot of black bean sauce on the side. If you're feeling adventurous I'd recommend getting the jelly fish with cucumber appetizer. It has spicy wasabi taste but very refreshing! My mom said it tasted very authentic. read more

Wow, so impressed by this Korean Chinese restaurant that felt like a hidden gem! I wasn't expecting too much from this unassuming restaurant in Milpitas but wow I was impressed. Their Liang Zhang Pi was filled with chewy noodles, perfectly cooked jellyfish, pork, and shrimp, and featured so many flavors and textures. Other highlights included spicy seafood noodle soup which had a good kick to it as well as the crispy chicken wings and pickled green beans with plenty of wok-hay. I'll be back for my next Korean Chinese food craving! read more

This place is great, haven't been here since pre-Covid. The food is still wonderful, the service is still excellent. Although the prices have exploded like every restaurant since Covid, I'm glad I am back. I hope it doesn't take five years until the next visit. read more
Watching K-dramas and variety shows always makes me crave Jajangmyeon and JJamppong. But such items are very hard to find in the Union City/Fremont/Newark area. Therefore, I'm glad that we made the impulsive drive to this place in Milpitas. This place is a keeper, a hidden gem in Milpitas. At first glance, would say that this place's food reminds me exactly of Koryo Jajang in Oakland except the menu here is quite diverse. Compared to Koryo, they have a lot more offerings of Chinese dishes such as Mapo Tofu, Kung Pao Chicken, Honey Walnut Prawns, Cashew Chicken, etc. Ordering process for takeout was straightforward. Their updates are quite accurate, highly appreciated. Seafood Noodle Soup and Jajangmyeon: 5/5 stars Got the Seafood Noodle Soup (with no spice) and Jajangmyeon and I was thoroughly impressed. The Seafood Noodle Soup was huge, had generous amounts of seafood and noodles in it, and the broth tasted very clean. Didn't detect any traces of MSG in it. Only complaint was that the noodles were clumped in together; literally molded together into the shape of the box. Jajangmyeon was also solid. Black bean sauce was abundant and noodles were cooked perfectly. They also provided the yellow radish, kimchi, and onions as sides. Complemented the dish very well. Would definitely come back to get food. Looking forward to trying their other menu items! read more

I really enjoy the menu here, its a nice fusion of Korean and classic Chinese dishes. Everything here is very good, but I tend to veer more to the Korean items like Jajangmyeon, solely because I feel that they have a more authentic flavor and presentation. Don't get me wrong, they have quite a few traditional Chinese items like their delicious hot & sour soup, but certain items like the egg flower soup with bits of tomato in it, has me on the fence as to whether or not I would order it again. read more

A lot of people have recommended the black bean noodles and I was intrigued when I saw it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the expectations. I was really let down because the noodles were a great texture and consistency. The flavor was bland and super forgettable. The fried chicken wings though- the name says dry fried, but they were not even close to dry. The sauce and the skin were both crunchy from the frying but also sticky from the sauce. It was a delicious masterpiece. The only downside to this dish was the accompanying veggies. Rarely you will see peas and carrots in Chinese dishes unless it's Americanized. I would've expected jalapenos and onions so it was kind of weird. The sauce left over actually enhanced the flavor of the black bean noodle quite a bit tho. The string beans could've been crunchier, but it was still decent in garlic and chili flavor. Complimentary kimchi and radish were a dish addition. Service was decent and fast. Serving sizes are quite generous and the prices here are cheap. Parking not too bad in this plaza either so no need to worry. read more

Can the jjajangmyeon be made vegetarian?
No. We do have dry jjajangmyeon that we can make vegetarian.

Are they open yet? Yelp had a banner that said 10/31?
No, we are not open yet, still dealing with our insurance. I am not certain when for reopen, my guess toward to next year January 2020.
