I stumbled across this spot on Yelp, and let me just say I wish I hadn't. This is by far the worst place and should be avoided. We walked in, and there were only two other people eating. There were no workers in sight, so we seated ourselves. After about 5-7 minutes, still no one came, and at this point, we were about to leave, which I wish we had. But a young girl probably the daughter of the owner eventually came out to help and seemed annoyed when she handed us the menu. As a Vietnamese person, I was looking forward to the bun bo hue until it arrived, looking sad with not even a hint of the bbh color, and it tasted horrible. The bun rieu looked decent but also tasted terrible. The pho was probably the only decent dish, but it wasn't good. This was the worst experience we've had, and I felt like we got robbed paying to eat (taste since we didn't even touch our bowls) garbage food. It's a disgrace to Vietnamese cuisine. A total of $67 wasted on bad food, bad service, and definitely no ambiance at that place! There rice plates are really good here! The marinated meats are delicious and one of the best around here! You cant go wrong with grilled pork or grilled chicken! Generous portions, perfect amount of crunch, perfect ratio of meats to veggies to vermicelli, peanut dipping sauce was the perfect complement (how many times can I say perfect?). This was the all star, until we got to our main courses... 2. Com Tam Suon Bo Nuong (grilled beef short ribs over broken rice) - 10/10. Again, the plate was well balanced with a good amount of rice to ribs (my gripe with other places is when they load up your plate so it ends up being 50% rice, 30% meat, 20% veggies). They do NOT skimp on the ribs, which I was a happy camper about. Also, ribs were so well seasoned, juicy, flavorful and tender. When I was done, I found myself debating on whether I should go for another round, which I never do, so that just goes to show how well executed this dish was. 3. Com Tam Suon Nuong (grilled pork over broken rice) - 9/10. Hubby said pork was tender, fresh, and the rice was cooked right (not too dry, not too wet). In his words, it was the "perfect texture". He also enjoyed the side soup. We met the co-owner, Co My Ha, and she was so sweet, friendly, and made us feel like we were eating at her home. We're so grateful for this experience. I tried BBH Noodle awhile ago and thought it was pretty pricey for Pho. Good, but pricey. Nowadays, that's the standard pricing at other restaurants. Today, I revisited them while waiting for my mom's takeout from next door to be ready. The service was bad. I walked in and a lone lady was sitting at the back table talking on the phone. After seating myself done and waited a few minutes with nobody to greet me or bring me a menu. I proceeded to go to the kitchen to see if somebody would help me. As I saw somebody, she spoke in Vietnamese, and a man came out to help me but was surprised that he had to come out as he saw the woman just sitting there. I understand not to expect good service at these types of restaurants, but at least seat your customers and give them a menu and water. I only got the water after she somewhat took my order. Bun Bo Hue (Spicy): Beef and pork slices, ham, tendon, pork blood (4/5). I was surprised that they did not include the usual shrimp paste and chili oil. We were in the area and were thinking about revisiting a noodle place in Milpitas we had tried years ago, but couldn't remember the name nor the location so we saw this little as we drove by and decided to give it a try. We got there around 2pm on Saturday and it was pretty empty. We ordered Bun Bo Hue and an appetizer. We couldn't decide if we want Goi Cuon or the papaya salad so we asked the server (I think he is the owner?) which one was better. One would expect he would suggest the more expensive salad but he actual recommended the cheaper rolls. Extra point there! Happy to see they offer Bun Bo Hue as we love the spicy noodles. We have tried many bun no hue places in the Bay Area, including the famous Bun Bo Hue A nam in San Jose. Some places tend to make it too sweet. The Bun Bo Hue here was HUGE and flavorful. It was spicy but we like it hot so we fully used the toasted pepper chili sauce on the table. The lemongrass flavor was intense and we love it. The Goi Cuon was the biggest I have seen. They are very thoughtful that they didn't put the crushed peanuts in the dipping sauce like other places, but offer it on the side... for people with allergies I think-very considerate . There wasn't anything to write home about regarding the taste of the rolls. They were fresh and crunchy as expected for goi Cuon. Part of the skin was a little hard but overall they were good for the price. The place was clean and tables arranged neatly. The service was good and the boss (I think) was very friendly. More quiet these days than usual. Credit cards accepted. Pay at front counter after dining inside. I sat at corner table 1 and had the Bun Rieu Crab Cake Meat Pate Tomato Paste Noodle Soup with a glass of water. True, selections are a bit pricier compared to other similar places. Still delicious, especially the unique meat pate. They're actually different in taste compared to others. Good tasting flavorful meat pate is probably handmade. Very good. Huge portion sizes inside bowl. Service is slow, but ok. Mixed vibes inside. 1-2 staffs (males) are working. Don't expect excitement. Not too bright interior lighting. Low key casual dining mood. They can get very busy taking orders over the phone. The place was much better with more servers in past years. They are definitely trying to survive. Staffs are growing older. Menu is simple. Old places still have potential. This is one of those places that should get repainted or upgraded to compete with others. Sticky wet tables? Utensils looked old. Came here on a weeknight for dinner because I really wanted soup. I tried the BBH and it was mid for me since I'm huge on savory and super spicy for BBH. If you don't like too much heat, then this is probably a good broth-spice level for you. Otherwise, it was not spicy for me and the chili oil they had wasn't spicy for me either. It's been YEARS since I've stopped by and had some BBH Noodle. The menu sure has chopped down in size but the simplicity is just enough to keep the customers coming back for more. The menu includes a few appetizers, 3 types of noodle soup, vermicelli bowls, rice offerings, & a long list of drinks. The seating capacity is a little over 40 patrons which is a bit hard to believe but I guess they make magic happen if/when it's needed. Lunch consisted of: *BUN BO HUE- spicy beef noodle soup *PHO BO VIEN- pho w/ beef balls *HU TIEU DAI THAP CAM- combination noodle soup with chewy clear noodles *SODA CHANH- Vietnamese soda lemonade Food: For starters, just like the numerous pho/noodle houses located in the Bay Area, the sriracha shortage is REAL!! You won't find the infamous red sauce with it's green twisty cap here. They do have fish sauce, hoisin, chili, & a generic form of sriracha placed table side. I liked how the plates of veggies provided are the traditional herbs and veggies typically found with each dish- the employees didn't just pile on a bunch of generic veggies for everyone to share. The noodles were good. Pho was good and the nephew like the oversized beef balls provided. BBH noodles definitely had the iconic spicy factor required in its broth, unfortunately there wasn't much else beyond that. Mam rouc [fermented shrimp paste] is most definitely needed to offset the spicy but bland flavors of the soup. Combination chewy noodles was surprisingly a lot more enjoyed that I anticipated. The toppings and protein provided in each bowl was plentiful but I would have liked a bit more when it came down to noodle amounts. 3.5 stars overall. This place has been in this plaza for a few years now and this was the first time I tried it. I tend to stay loyal to my favorite pho place. I should have tried this sooner! The beef broth is so good. It is clearly not heavy on the MSG just the slow cooked flavor of beef broth. The soup was really lovely. There was also a lot of meat. The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of tripe and tendon which is what I love in my pho. Called in an order togo for the hubs. Ordered 2 large Bun Bo Hue togo in Vietnamese and told them I'm in transit. Arrived and walked in mask on and stated I called in my order. No greeting or hellos or anything. Walked in with my CC and was ready to swipe and pay. Was told my order was $29 something. Honestly didn't hear her. Big old sign in front of the cashier clearly stated $30 minimum for credit card charge! Say what?!? They already charge you for togo containers even though you don't have a choice but to order togo these days. I didn't want a soda added or drink added being right next to Starbucks so I walked back to my car to grab cash that I happen to have on me. Smh. If you were dining solo, make sure you bring cash. $30 forces a 2 entree, 1-2 drink minimum to hit in order to charge on your credit card. Crazy high. I think I've seen $15 at most places and maybe even $20 once but $30 is a brand new high for a Vietnamese noodle spot! Hubs said broth flavor was alright. The tendon was definitely boiled separately, unsure on meat since you can taste the blandness when chewing. Shrugs. Figure your shining dish would be what you name the business after. This is one of the restaurants where it looks mediocre ok the outside and inside, but when you taste the food, you'd be surprised that it's better than how it looks. I guess you can't judge a book by the cover as they say. I made the right choice on the day of ordering grilled chicken with rice. It looked absolutely delicious and came straight off the grill served hot. The chicken was cooked to where it was a little charred, yet having a nice sheen to it. It was your typical sweet BBQ Asian chicken and I can't recommend it enough. When it arrived though, I thought the portion was huge, but did make my way through every thing. I rarely finish my food at restaurants, but this was as good that I did finish it all. The hubby ordered bun rieu and was told that it was surprisingly good. He gives it a 4/5, but also said this is one of the restaurants serving banana leaf as a topping condiment. Service was 5/5. There was a lady that kept coming to the table giving more chilli sauce, and prawn paste, telling us to try and taste them with the food as it made it better. That was a nice gesture! This is a very good Bun Bo Hue place, outside of San Jose. My friends and I came here on a Sunday lunchtime, before the crowds came, since it is a small restaurant. After so many years of eating the original in San Jose, I was skeptical if it would as good...well, it passed the taste test! I've come to eat lunch and dinner 4x in the last 2 weeks at BBH Noodle. It's located at the corner of Park Victoria and Calaveras blvd next to the Starbucks. I've ordered their BBQ Pork Chop Rice Plate. Charred and grilled to perfection. It has a delicious bbq flavor thanks to being cooked over an open flame. Recommended! Grilled Pork w/Vermicelli noodles. Another winner! And of course Pho noodles. So good! And I should mention that the portions are generous for all dishes which is something I appreciate! I was also served a Coconut dessert that wasn't on the menu and it was a struggle to not make too much noise trying to spoon every last bit out of the glass! In short, I haven't had anything that I didn't like from BBH The plan is come back and try the Shaking Beef Rice Plate next time. On my way home from Davis I always stop by this place for a bowl of bun bo hue. The service is really fast & my food comes out in 10 minutes or less each time. The BBH is very good & unlike other reviews that say this place is "skimpy", I thought they gave me a lot of meat. The beef is very tender & the cha is good quality. The broth lacks a strong lemon grass flavor but it's really spicy & tasty. The workers are also very nice and check up on me to see if I need any extra limes / more water. They use round rice noodles; broth is little spicy, it's got the fishy/shrimpy umaminess, I add lime to makes the broth even more complex and balanced. Plenty of protein - beef and pork and tendon and blood cubes, oh my! I don't like the flavor of the blood and I don't like the tough texture of the shredded red banana blossoms.
