My hubby ordered noodle soups with special combinations (oxtail, pizzle, filet magnon, brisket, flank, tendon, tripe and beed ball). I got myself BBQ pork chop rice plate. My hubby got his order fast and I waited a little bit as the staff told me the kitchen need to heat the grill. The noodles soup was taste good and flavorful. And my pork chop rice plate was okay, nothing really impressed me. The plate was a little small to me as I find difficult to cut the chop, and kind made a little messy. Found my new favorite Bun Bo Hue place in the area. I dined in and was surprised by their serving size. The soup bowls are on the larger end (M/L) and came with abundant meats. Even the spring rolls here are larger than other Pho restaurants. Other places I've tried before their Bun Bo Hue soup is very oily and has a dark red color. I love spicy food so I was surprised when I didn't enjoy my first Bun Bo Hue back then. Now after trying BBH Noodle, this will be my go to place for Bun Bo Hue. My family loves coming here because it's the only Vietnamese restaurant nearby that makes Bun Bo Hue the way my grandma used to make it. There's just something about the flavor and aromatics here that gets the dish right where other places don't quite get. After my grandma passed away a few years ago, my mom would always suggest coming here to eat and it really makes us happy to taste her cooking again. My favorite dish here is Nui Xao Bo which is a penne pasta cooked with a sauce similar to sweet and sour sauce, and mixed with really tender beef and some veggies. Solid pho restaurant in Milpitas. Yesterday was an unseasonably cool day. For that reason, I was thinking about pho all day long. Came dinnertime, I threw out BBH Noodle as a suggestion. Surprisingly, my family was mildly enthused about the idea. So off we went to Milpitas to try out this joint. BBH Noodle is located in the Victorian Square, a large shopping Center on E. Calaveras Boulevard just east of Highway 680. We walked in at around 7:45pm and were immediately greeted by one of the staff members. He seated us at a table off to the right of the entrance. The interior appeared clean and well lit. Decorations were simple and elegant. Seating was made up with more than a dozen small tables and a large round table. Some of the small tables were put together to accommodate larger parties. Water and menu were brought to us by the male staffer. Since we had scouted out their menu prior, we quickly ordered the following: - Bun Bo Hue ($9.50) - Pho Dac Biet x2 ($9.50 each) - Goi Cuon (fresh spring rolls, $5.50) It took less than 10 minutes for our food to arrive. My bun bo Hue came with several slices of thickly cut beef shank and pork belly, as well as cha Hue (Hue style ham), tendon chunks, and congealed pig blood cubes. The broth was robust and spicy. It was meaty and had great lemongrass flavor. The spiciness of the broth plateaued slowly and lingered in the back of my throat for quite some time. The noodles were cooked perfectly. All the meat toppings were great except for the beef shank, which I found to be tough and chewy. Overall, it was a good, solid bowl of bun bo Hue. It would have been great if the beef shank was better. I tried some of the pho dac biet broth and it was solid. It was beefy and not too much MSG was noted. I also tried a slice of the flank and it was tender. My mom and brother both complimented their food. Coming from my mom, it's a pretty big deal since she's not a huge fan of Vietnamese food. The staff was friendly and courteous. With tax and tip, the meal only cost $43. It's difficult to find good bun bo Hue in the East Bay. IMHO, their version is solid. It may not be as good as BBH An Nam or Pho King, but definitely better than most Vietnamese pho joints. If you are in search of good pho in Milpitas, keep this place in mind. We came at lunch. Long story short, the 2 rice place we got were pretty good, but nothing you could not get at another Vietnamese place. My big gripe was the extremely slow and poor service. The person working took forever to take our order and it took 1 hour to get our food. Water glasses were also never refilled. We got there at 12 and did not have food brought to us until after 1. When we arrived there were a few patrons enjoying their noodles and one particular table had a special order of stir fried rice noodles without meat because it was holy week. My friend ordered the same because it looked tasty. I ordered the seafood noodles because I am observing holy week. I was surprised that the seafood noodle had meat on it. We were craving bun bo hue. We never tried one in Milpitas so we found one nearby. When we arrived, we noticed the grand opening sign and there's a few people waiting in line on a Sunday morning. I add our name to the waiting list and the wait was around 10 minutes. The interior of the restaurant was very nice and the bathroom was clean. We ordered bun bo hue with less spicy. The soup base was nice, clear but still had that spicy kicked to it which i enjoyed very much. The thing I didn't like about it was the noodles weren't cooked correctly, not sure why some were al dente and some were just super soft. The meat portion was pretty bad as well, I had two small pieces of tendon, two cha, two big chunks of pork blood, and two small pieces of beef.... First impression the restaurant is very clean and good customer service! Menu is boring and white (bland) but straight forward without being overloaded with too many dishes. This makes it alot easier to choose what you'd want to eat- wish there was a few photos though. This place is called BBH, so I obviously opted for bun bo hue. Their broth smelled immediately of shrimp paste, I love shrimp paste but prefer to dip or add extra as I go. There honestly didn't seem to be much depth in flavor but I was starving and ate pretty quickly. They do give you plenty of veggies on the side, fresh ingredients. My boyfriend and I both agreed they need a bigger portion of noodles as we both left hungry and wanting just more, their noodles also seemed more on the broken side and a bit too soft. He was about to hand us the menus, but changed his mind and asked us to order right away and mentioned ordering BBH. So far I've had consistent bowls of phò here and the star is the tai, cross cut slices of tender quality beef. The broth is clean and tasty with lots o slivers of green onions.... Before I wrote this review, I gave it many tries and now I am a fan! First Experience: My family and I (plus boyfriend) came here on their first week of grand opening. The soup smelled great and presentation was nice. It looked plentiful, hot, and fresh. Unfortunately, the soup was a little bland and the bun was super soft! That is a big no-no for me! I love al dente bun and I think that is what makes a big part of BBH. The soup was not as flavorful as BBH An Nam. However, my grandma gave me some of her BBQ Beef to try and that was really good! The meat was tender and well seasoned. It went perfectly with the al dente rice and fish sauce. That day, I left feeling a bit disappointed and thought it can never compared to An Nam. All Experiences After: I came back 4 times afterwards with friends and my boyfriend. Each time, it got better and better! The bun became al dente. The soup was more flavorful! It's definitely not as spicy as other places I've been. The side dish with vegi to be placed into the soup bowl is huge and fresh. The variety of meat is quite good. Blood is not top notched. The last few times around it was just lacking in the meats? It really bothers me when restaurants do these tricks to cut their cost, or increase their bottom line. Soup is everywhere and competitive. Quality is what should matter the most. Quality = return business = stay in business and successful. I just happened to passed by this place and there were no customers around thinking it was still closed, but the middle aged man I assume the manager/owner came up to me very politely that they are still opened for business and I was seated right away and he brought over the menu and the first thing I've noticed is the price difference from the one shown in December 2017 and they have gone up. I decided to order the House Special fried rice Vietnamese style for $12.50 and for drink Thai tea around $4 bucks, the server the young lady brought over my meals and they were very generous. During that time there were no other customers could been the holiday or that it's still early in the day. I wouldn't mind coming back and try out their noodles and appetizers. As for parking won't be a problem though I would avoid coming down here during lunch time since there are so many businesses wrapped around this tiny strip mall.
