If you're looking for a taste of Hanoi in South Bay, this spot is a great find. As a Viet, I've always felt homesick and my ultimate goal in the Bay is to find a bowl of pho that actually feels like home. I know the purists will say this isn't the authentic Pho Thin Lo Duc, but honestly to me doesn't matter. As long as food slaps and my belly is happy, then I'm sold. My favorite dishes here are pho tai lan and pho tai dap. And 2 sides you should order whenever you have Hanoi pho is quay (fried dough) and poached egg. The broth may not be the best, but it's rich, beef is stir-fried perfectly with signature garlic aroma (it's called tai lan for a reason, and dipping the quay into the soup took me straight back Hanoi. It's rare to find a place in Bay that serves pho with quay, so I really appreciate the authenticity. This restaurant is just comforting, delicious, and for a moment, it made the distance from home feel a little smaller. For nearly $20 a bowl, I expected much more flavor from the pho. Unfortunately, both my co-worker and I found the broth to be bland. The meat (pho tai dap #10) was the only element that added any real flavor to the dish. Service was also lacking. Got takeout so this review is just for the food itself. Tried one of the beef phos which had a decent broth and good amount of meat. The portion sizes here are massive though, way too many noodles. Still pretty good overall but I wish they offered smaller portions since finishing everything is tough. The cơm tấm was excellent. The grilled pork was great and the Vietnamese sausage was also really good. Rice with fish sauce hit the spot and there were some nice pickled veggies, though I could use more of those. The prices are very high, at least $10 for spring rolls, close to $20 for a bowl of pho, etc. The bowl of pho was very big though and came with ton of noodles, broth, and meat. However, the broth flavor fell flat. It was very fishy and the broth tasted diluted beef wise. It's like they compensate the lack of beef flavor with more fish sauce and sodium. Halfway I got tired of it, and just ate the rest of the beef/noodle with as little soup as possible. The meat was OK, not the best quality meat. The workers were not friendly. No smiles. The lady who helped us had OK customer service. She pushed the tip jar towards me when it was time to pay, very rude in my opinion. I tipped via credit card so there was no point for me to tip in cash. Overall we were underwhelmed with our pho and probably wouldn't be back given the very fishy taste of the broth. Pho was good, service was okay, but there was way too much pressure as a guest. I wanted to pay with card, but kept being told to pay cash instead. Then again, I was told to leave tips in cash and not on card. If there's a cash discount policy, just put a clear sign at the cashier saying: "Cash payments receive discount, card payments regular price." Simple. Instead of repeatedly mentioning it during payment, it honestly made me feel uncomfortable and pressured. And after I spoke up about it, the attitude completely changed. The staff stopped being nice and just stared at me awkwardly, even though I paid for my meal like any normal customer. Just sharing my experience so others know what to expect. It's our first time today to try their pho and we got # 14 combination pho. The soup is flavorful and fresh.It is not too salty nor too oily and the steak is tender and not dry at all. Serving size is excellent so it is worth it. Cua rang be (northern style square eggrolls) - this took forever to come out, and then it was an oily mess on the outside and frozen on the inside. We had to send it back. I don't think their oil was hot enough. Their special stir fry beef pho - the meat was in hard clumps, and not seasoned. Difficult to chew through. I have never been to Vietnam, but I tend to lean towards pho bac (Northern-style pho) whenever applicable. I like Dac Phuc, Pho Ha Noi, and Pho Co. When I do, I like to eat out by myself. I also like trying new restaurants so this past Saturday after dropping Gavin off to hangout w/ my cousin for a bit, I decided to try this place. This restaurant is took over Com Tam Thien Huong. It is across the street from Fosters Freeze. Clean restaurant. Staff ready to seat you and assist w/ your order. Service was incredibly fast. I didn't get to savior any silence during my time there. I ordered the #1: stir-fried sauté steak soup and an order of their dau chao quay (Chinese savory donut twists). The broth was clean, clear, light aromatics. I can taste the ginger. The sauté steak was tender. The dau chao quay was cripsy, light, and a touch of chewiness. I enjoyed their house made hot sauce. My broth is usually red but since I have never had this, I went mild to save my stomach. It wasn't spicy to me though but that is because I scooped a kid's portion of it into my broth. I usually order #34 # 35 rice plate i would say this is the best broken rice restaurant in Milpitas / Fremont area . Portion is really big and i usually can't finish. One of the sleeper Pho spots in the Bay. Parking is great, lots of it. The restaurant is huge, lots of seating. Great for big parties. Portions are gigantic, $15 a bowl (Dec 2022) and you'll be full for half the day. This is about average price nowadays but for the size of these Portions, you'd be paying much more at other places. You have to try this place with a mindset that it's something different. The broth is north Vietnamese style where it's not too dense and heavy but rather light compared to the usual southern Vietnamese style pho people are used to. Broth is a bit oily. This is the second place where I've tried northern-style pho. I ordered their #1PHÖ THIN TRUYEN THÓNG while my significant other ordered the #3 PHO TÁICHÍN (NAC). Both were yummy but I personally enjoyed the flavor of the #1 more. The soup tasted a bit more seasoned than the #3 (but it could just be my imagination?). We also tried both the fresh noodles and thin noodles. My preference was definitely towards the fresh noodles; I much prefer the bite! We also ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer. Also the service itself was horrible. Everytime I asked a question the server dismissed it. I would never come here again OR recommend it to someone else. The BEST pho spot in the bay. They serve sweet pickled onions on the side and their hot sauce is a house made Thai chili paste that you can't find anywhere else. Be warned, it is spicier than your typical sambal chili paste but is waaay better than using sriracha. I was embarrassed since we already had unfriendly service and then to hear they ran out. My lunch partner ended up ordering some sort of rice dish with shrimp. Shrimp was ok Now it was my turn. I ordered a pho bowl as I recall the broth and the fresh green onions that Hanoi is known for. The pho was not as I recall it was waterEd down and salty. I was deeply disappointed. I asked for extra chopped up green onions and cilantro and the waiter said it's not available. Perhaps it was a communication language issue but nonetheless I left there so disappointing. I usually never finish. A bowl and take the broth home. But in this case, I did not care to take anything home. I just wanted to leave the bad experience behind. I would recommend this restaurant to older folks! The taste of the pho and the fresh rice noodle (highly recommend) reminds me of soup that I would have at home. I would describe it as a very simple and light broth, a taste that my parents would really appreciate! There is a LOT of onions, so if you're not a fan of onions, ask for them on the side or none at all. They also serve the pickled onions on the side as well. I personally loved every sip and my breath was pretty bad, but so worth! Because the broth is so light, they actually serve fish sauce, spicy sauce, and hoisin sauce on the side table if you desire more flavor. The spicy sauce was soooo good, and mixed in with the hoisin sauce, it paired really well with the meat that came with my soup. The portion size was really big, and I think it could be shared with two people with smaller appetites! I came in pretty hungry, and the regular bowl was more than enough to fill me up. The ladies were nice, the guy working here couldn't understand a word we said, not even when we asked for hot tea. The broth was bland, the meatballs had no taste to them (how?!) and worst of all, my party and I both got food poisoning soon after. Looking back, it makes sense how we got sick - The broth was hot but not boiling hot when it arrived, the rare steak sitting in the broth was cooked to medium rare which is fine for me as long as that steak was stored properly before serving patrons in which this case, I doubt!. I spent the night tossing and turning due to chills, nausea, vomit and you know the rest. Slept 16 hours to allow my body fight it off only to wake up feeling like I got hit by a truck.
