China rose is my go-to Chinese fast food! The prices here are great and the flavors are pretty good and consistent and that keeps me coming back. Some of my favorites are the walnut shrimp, sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef, and the chow fun with gravy sauce. The only complaint is the portion size to some of their items. That could explain the pricing. I never dined in so service and ambiance are something I can't comment on but Uber and door dash delivery orders have been consistent. read more

26 years ago, this location was home to China Garden, owned by a wonderful woman named Julie. She was one of the sweetest and most welcoming people my wife and I ever met. The food was excellent, and we became regulars for nearly two years. When the restaurant closed, we were genuinely heartbroken because we lost both a favorite place to eat and someone who made every visit special. When China Rose opened, we admittedly had a hard time giving it a chance because of the connection we had with the previous restaurant. Fast forward more than 20 years later, and after hearing many positive comments from friends and community members, we finally decided to try it. The menu is extensive and offers plenty of traditional Chinese dishes, which was a plus. Unfortunately, our first visit did not leave the best impression. The fried egg rolls looked perfectly crisp on the outside, but the filling was noticeably cold. The Chinese chicken salad tasted fine, but the portion was much smaller than we expected. The pork fried rice had good flavor, but it arrived only warm rather than fresh and hot. The biggest disappointment was the sesame chicken. It looked great and had good flavor, but several pieces were cold in the middle, which left us confused and disappointed. In terms of service... We asked three separate times for a glass of water and never received it. The staff was not rude, but it was frustrating to be overlooked on such a simple request. Imagine eating poor different dishes and not even getting water or just being forgotten about a simple request. My wife and I actually just got out of work both of us working in eight hour shift with a long commute and we were pretty hungry so just the fact that we barely ate half of everything and took the rest home. It was such a heartbreaker to have to write a review like this. To be fair, the leftovers actually tasted pretty good the next day, and it's clear this restaurant has been a longtime staple in the community. We've lived in the area for more than 20 years and have been to Smart & Final and Little Caesars Pizza many times but didn't think to try China Rose until recently. I ordered Mongolian Beef and Seafood Hot & Sour Soup for delivery. I was pleasantly surprised. The Mongolian Beef was flavorful and actually spicy! I live for spice! Seafood Hot & Sour Soup was just as good. The portions were very generous and price was super affordable even for it being delivered by Grubhub. After watching a movie at the Great Mall, we were craving chinese food for dinner. Yelp reviews led me to China Rose, reviewers said the food is tasty. When we arrived, there were two women playing a game at one table, and a man eating alone. We waited a few minutes, before one of the women, said pick a table. We sat ourselves. The ladies collected their things, one went behind the the counter, the other went in the back. The man later on, got up, and went in the back too. A young man came out with menus, and a hot pot of tea. The young man was friendly. I notice the spout on the tea pot looked black. I thought it was stained. After I served a cup, my son said please don't drink that tea. The young man came back and took our order, he was nice. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Lemon Chicken and Bbq Pork Chow Mein. The service was fast, and the food came out quickly, and we both thought it was tasty, and a good portion of food. Unfortunately, I have photographic evidence of poor food safety. My curiousity got the best of me at the end of our meal, and I used my napkin to rub the blacken tea spout, and it transferred onto the paper napkin. It made me question how clean it was in the back, were the food is handled. We had already eaten our share. The young man was hustling about bagging to-go orders. I got up to pay at the counter, but the young lady did not acknowledge me, she never looked up or made eye contact, and was behaving as if I was not standing in front of her. She actually started pounding on the calculator with her finger, like she was angry. Weird. The young man came out, took the calculator from her, and totalled up my order, never acknowledging her weird behavior. He was so nice, smiling, friendly. The vibe here is so off. I'd rate this a 3.5, but rounding up because the food was decent overall. BEEF FRIED RICE: Lots of wok hei and good flavor! They actually mince the beef, which I have never seen before but it makes so much more sense because the meat was seasoned well and each bite would likely have protein scooped with it. CHICKEN CHOW MEIN: Also had wok hei, however the ratio of veggies to noodles was disappointing. Otherwise, this would have been a winner too. SALT AND PEPPER FISH: The portion was a little smaller than we're used to from other establishments and a little over fried, but still not too bad. DRY SAUTEED STRING BEANS: I can't put my finger on the flavor, might be a little bit of Szechuan pepper as well as minced pork, but it was a nice change from regular garlic. Husband liked this a lot. Good flavors, can't tell if there's MSG or not but I didn't feel like they use it or much of it, since it's not noticeable with my usual symptoms after msg consumption. I had a worse experience today in this place. I ordered food, and my pick-up time was at 12:14 PM. I arrived around 12:15, and the front desk lady said the food was not ready. I waited ten more minutes and asked her when the food would be ready. She said, 'I don't know.' I waited another ten minutes and asked her the same question; she said she still didn't know. Then I asked her, "Can you bring someone who can tell when the food will be ready?" She yelled at me, saying, "I said, 'I don't know. The Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce was too hard and crunchy for my mom. I tried it and it was a little undercooked. It could have been cooked a little longer for the perfect tenderness vs hard crunch. It may be China Rose's way to prepare CHinese broccoli. Economical, no frills Chinese food. China Rose is located in the Foothill Square Shopping Center in a quiet residential neighborhood of Milpitas. After seeing some pictures posted by several Yelpers recently, I decided to check them out on 08/06/2022. The owner was taking a phone order when I walked in at 5:45 pm. There were only a few customers either dining in or waiting for their takeout. The interior was clean and bright with simple decorations. The vibe reminded me of a neighborhood family restaurant. I ordered two sets of their 3-dish family meal ($25.95 cash/$27.95 CC), plus a dish of Shredded Pork in Hot Garlic Sauce ($10.95). Each set came with rice and hot and sour soup. The total, with tax, was less than $70. Very reasonable in today's economy. Below is what I got: Broccoli Beef - Beef was tender and the broccoli florets were fresh. I loved that they put lots of chopped garlic in the dish. Black Bean Chicken - Surprisingly good. Lots of tender chicken. Not too saucy. Beef Chow Fun - Not good at all. The taste was bland and the noodles were clumped together. Very stingy on the beef. Sweet and Sour Spareribs - Excellent despite the stingy portion (box was half full). They were done Shanghainese style. The taste was very balanced. Shredded Pork and Bean Curd Stir-Fry - Nice, light dish that was not too greasy. Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet - Good. Very crispy exterior. Could use a bit more salt and pepper seasoning. Shredded Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce - Nicely done dish. Very spicy and garlicky. The portions varied between dishes, but for the price they charged it was expected. Service was very good. The owner and his staff were polite and welcoming. They packed everything neatly and double-checked my order before handed it to me. All things considered, I like this place despite a few misses.
