    Egg Custard Tart

Longstanding, no frills shop specializing in dim sum and various Chinese pastries. Great value - the portion sizes are not skimpy and price has historically always been pretty low. It's more of a takeout spot although there are some seats for dine in. There's a 3% charge for credit card so if you wanna avoid it bring cash! Some other low reviews may be because there may be a bit of a communication barrier if you don't speak Mandarin / they can't hear you - BUT I've seen several customers order just fine in English. Look beyond the minimal decor / quick service and you'll see that the ladies are actually very sweet and their focus is on getting food to everyone efficiently :)) In my opinions their standout dishes are the steamed buns and bread. The various bread pastries are golden brown and have a nice gloss on them from baking. The steamed buns are kept in steamers so they are always warm and fluffy when you eat it right away! Also their egg tarts fresh are so BUTTERY and smooth and they sometimes throw in a free one (buy 5 get 1)

This review is just for their egg tarts. It's a deal at $18 a dozen! They're also double the size of the ones you get at dim sum these days. It's been at least a year since I last visited and stopped by recently when in the area. The recipe has improved and so has the crust. It's super flaky and even better when baked in the air fryer for a few minutes. The egg is nice and custardy. Parking shouldn't be a problem but the spaces are a bit narrow at this strip mall. It's located across the street from the Asian supermarket and plaza.

Little shop that you can get some dim sum, porridge, chow mein, Chinese bread with green onions, egg tarts, etc. Great place to pick up some quick food.

    My favorite shrimp dumplings ha-caw.

Every time I go to my Dentest in Milpitas, I stop by my favorite dim sum place. So happy to get some dim sum in Milpitas. They are so good. I love shumai and hawcow there. I wish we have place like this in Texas.:( Their lunch special is the best deal. You get a porridge and so many kinds of dumplings for $10. It's still cheap for the amount of dim sum you get. The owner is very hard worker. I see her every time I go there for last 13 years. They open from morning until evening. No days off. Amazing for a small business like this. Thank you always for serving such a great dim sums.

We got a pork and peanut zongzi (~$5), hot dog bun, and bbq bun that was pretty value for the price (total ~$11). The sizes were decently large and fairly fresh.

4 stars based off of New Hwong Kok's Steamed BBQ pork bao. I am typically not a fan of BBQ pork buns and am especially not a fan of fast food to-go dim sum joints. I have not been able to come across a single establishment that meet my requirements when it comes to quality. Food items may be extremely large in size [[visually described as your average dumpling but on STERIOIDS!!]] but the texture is super wet/mushy, with flavoring compromised. With my 3yo not having a good dinner, I went on a hunt to grab something small and carb-y. According to Yelp's listed business hours, NHK was opened pretty late and I headed directly over. I was met by an older Chinese woman who informed to me that business hours were over. I apologized and told her I came here based off of the hours listed on Yelp. Thankfully, she was willing to sell me some BBQ pork buns and Chinese steamed cake as well. Buns were good. I wasn't expecting much and automatically assumed the filling was going to be super stingy but was very very doable. Flavoring was spot on, providing that typical meaty sweetness that you'd expect from char siu. Steamed cake was the letdown due to the inconsistent layers in the pasty. Some parts were dry and crusty/hard. I worked around the piece as best as I could before giving up completely and dumping it. Overall: Thank you to the elderly woman who decided to allow for my purchase even after closing time. I'd come back for the BBQ buns and am interested in checking out other savory fillings they have.

It's a good thing we did because the restaurant filled up completely 5 minutes after ordering. The inside of the restaurant is clean and modern, they have some art up on the wall that was cool to look at. The food was definitely the star though. We tried the BBQ pork and shrimp noodle rolls. Both were really good but my favorite was still the shrimp. I loved the veggies in the roll too. They can be a bit hard to pick up and eat because they're massive and cut into thirds. Other than that, the rice noodles are thin and silky and hold the sauce nicely. The sauce is also delicious. We also ordered the fish congee which was simple but comforting. It comes out PIPING hot so don't burn your tongue. Fish was tender and flavorful. Overall no complaints and the service was quick. Highly recommend!

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

Even though their parking lot had a lot of cars, it's so big that there're still plenty of spaces. Their inside was huge as well. Because of the high ceiling, it didn't feel too crowded, even though it was packed. They had a lot of servers, too, though getting the attention of one took a while. Our server highly recommended their sea bass 2 ways (congee and chow fun) on their daily special menu. We would have ordered that if they still had fish at ~2lb, but they only had fish at ~3lb, which would be too big for us, as we would like to order some dim sum as well. So, we just ordered from their dim sum menu. The 2 different house teas we ordered came out pretty quickly, but it took a while for the food to come. The Sauteed Turnip Cake in XO Sauce was the dish I liked the most. It could still use more XO sauce, though. Pork & Crab Roe Siu Mai was gigantic; taste was normal. I wished they had chili sauce at the table. We're too busy catching up and didn't bother to flag down someone to get some. The Fried Bean Curd Skin Roll w/ Shrimp was not bad, just a bit oily. The Fried Chinese Donut Wrapped in Rice Noodle w/ Dried Shrimp was on point; it came with a peanut sauce on the side. The Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce were well cooked and off the bones. The Salted Egg Yolk Lava Black Bun wasn't too sweet; the inside was more runny than we expected. We're already stuffed after having 6 dim sum dishes. Overall, dim sum was solid, but on the more expensive side. While their service was typical for a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area, they did apply a 16% service charge to the bill automatically, which was stated on their menu.

In my opinion, their system for waiting for tables is a bit chaotic. They do not ask for your phone number; instead, they print out a receipt with a number and call it out when your table is ready. There is a monitor inside the restaurant that you can watch, but since it's so crowded and the way the system is displayed on the screen, it's kind of hard to tell what is going on or what your status is. Service-wise, it's exactly what you would expect from any Chinese restaurant serving dim sum, if you know what I mean. :) Inside, the restaurant is very spacious and large, and I am assuming the reason for the long wait is that it's one of only two places to get dim sum in Milpitas (the other being Mayflower in the other highly packed plaza nearby). They do not serve dim sum with the traditional cart system where dishes are rolled around the dining room. Instead, you order from a menu and mark down how many quantities you want of each item. My family got a variety of dishes, but I'll call out some notable ones: * Their shu mai was juicy and packed with meat, probably one of the best shu mai I've had in the South Bay. * Their har gow skin broke apart really easily, which bummed me out, but it was generously stuffed with shrimp. * My favorite dish was their purple rice rolls. It was basically a Chinese donut stuffed with shrimp and wrapped in a purple glutinous rice roll. * The chicken feet were very balanced and not too sweet. * The truffle scallop dumpling had a rich mushroom flavor, and the scallop added a nice flavor profile. * The BBQ pork was coated well with the char siu sauce. It was tender and bold in flavor. Overall, my experience here was great, but I do not think it warranted more than a 30-minute wait. The food also came out a bit slowly in my opinion, but that was probably due to the high volume of people.

Once our food was in though, it was a while before our dishes were served. They slowly kind of trickled in so once we finished with a couple of dishes, the other ones would come out. At the end though, we had finished all the food and were waiting on 1 more dish that we had thought they forgot about. We had to wait for a while for it to come out but after it came out, we just paid the check right away. The dishes themselves were pretty good. I really enjoyed the siu mai as it was large and firm/crunchy (something that I didn't expect siu mai to be). My favorite dish was the rice noodle roll with crunchy shrimp as there was a difference in texture between the soft rice roll and the fried shrimp that kinda reminded me of the texture of youtiao. Overall a pretty solid choice for dim sum though it is on the pricier side.

That said, it would have been nice if they had actually announced what dishes we were getting. The menu included: - Chicken soup - Stir fried beef with vegetables - Cold marinated chicken and geoduck - Fish maw with pea sprouts and shiitakes - Fried egg tofu - Steamed fish - Twin lobsters with vermicelli - Suckling pig with steamed buns - Fried rice The highlight was the fish roe fried rice: great texture and flavor.
