I've come to realize, I love food so much in general that maybe I'm not as picky as can be lol. With that said, I've never been to San Tung. Yet. Because every time that I've stopped by, the line has been fairly long (at least 5 parties- both at the express whatever version and the full restaurant) and I've been hungry. I'll wait for good food.. but not when I'm starving. Plus, that'll be reviewed once I finally eat there. But back to Koong's! We got there at noon the day before Father's Day this weekend and there wasn't a wait at all! There were maybe four other parties already eating. But when we paid and left, the place was more than half full. They can definitely fit more tables, but I like the spaciousness of the place. Especially since it's a very family friendly restaurant and people wheel in their strollers/wheelchairs. So in case you're wondering, the owners speak Mandarin (and are therefore Chinese). But this also tells you not to order the wonton noodle soup. It won't be Hong Kong style (Cantonese) and have the thin egg noodles. They use these pancit width noodles that are too starchy and heavy. They also throw in some mushroom, broccoli and a few other things that don't belong in a wonton noodle soup. This is just my personal bias- Vietnamese style wonton noodle soup is pretty much identical to Cantonese so- that's my barometer FYI. But still- come for the dry fried chicken wings and the wontons in spicy sauce! They're Sichuan style, so the spiciness builds up if you're a usual non spicy food eater (i.e. me). But the wings aren't really spicy at all. They're flavorful and the crispiness on the outside is perfection. Not sure why they serve Korean food too? Maybe they just like to cook it or want to cater to more people. I didn't try anything Korean, so I can't address that concern. It seems like it's good to stick to the apps, or anything primarily mainland Chinese based! Or just order what I did because duh. read more

Excellent food, big portions. Their combos are particularly impressive, they have either lunch combos Monday through Friday before 230 that are around $15 for entree, soup (hot and sour or wonton), egg roll, and fries rice or chow mein. The rest of the time you can get the same combo for $4 plus entree. Really good walnut shrimp and steamed dumplings but really everything is great. Good sauces, good ingredients. read more

I ordered take-out the other night, as we are dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic and the "shelter in place orders". I haven't been to Koong's in awhile and decided to grab dinner the other day. We ordered the Salt and Pepper Fish, Chicken Fried Rice, Beef Chow Mein, Mongolian Beef and Orange Chicken. My fave dish was the Salt and Pepper Fish. It was flavored nicely and the fish was cooked just right. The Chicken Fried Rice and Beef Chow Mein were tasty and they packed a lot into the containers. The Mongolian Beef was tender and flavorful and the Orange Chicken was OK. I would have preferred a bit more flavor for my liking. My first time i've experienced the big plates of entrees and sides and they give you plates to serve yourself, i LOVED IT. The food just to start was good and it comes out hot and fairly fast! I have been coming to this restaurant since I was 13 years old! Absolutely loved this place up until recently. I'm not sure if staff/cooks have changed but the food didn't taste the way it normally does. We ordered the salt and pepper wings and they tasted like they were out of the fridge for too long and didn't feel comfortable eating them. We also had the wonton soup and the wonton stuffing had a weird taste, and the broth tasted like water. I'd love to come back to this restaurant cause it was my favorite! Koong's is located in Milpitas. I had not been here in quite a long time. When I got there, the restaurant was busy and full. The staff were nice and helpful as I got a table. I recognized an elderly couple who ate there regularly. Good to know the place has repeat guests. I ordered the Dry Fried Chicken Wings and Sautéed String Beans with Dry Chili. As appetizers, I received Kimchi and Daikon. The String Beans came out first -- they weren't too spicy as you could taste the Garlic. Then came the Chicken Wings -- they were spicy and delicious. The place was full the entire time I was there. The turnaround was quick to get guests seated. I'll be back to try out other items on their menu. read more

For $10 I would expect a little more ingredients than a typical free soup that comes with lunch special. Went here with friends after a warm day at Levi Stadium to see the 49ers play. They may have lost, but the food here was definitely a win.

It's not easy finding a good Korean style chinese restaurant in NorCal. And I heard some good things about this place from a friend so i went to check it out. YANG ZHANG PI - sooo goooood. Not as good as it is in Korea but very very good for what you can get around the bay. Totally recommend it! $14 for seafood noodle with mustard sauce. ZA ZANG MYUN - Not so good. Maybe they use less MSG than other places? It was just salty and not tasty at all. I totally regretted getting this instead of ZZAMPPONG. TANG SOO YOOK - Fried pork!! with sweet sauce!! This was super good too. Better finished at the restaurant because it will get soggy if you take it home. Totally recommend this if you like meat. They also have beef version. Their interior was cute with all these chinese decorations and soju bottles lined up at their little stand up bar. There is plenty of parking available so no need to worry about that. They have two gender neutral bathrooms behind the kitchen. read more

The kitchen was unbelievably filthy. I glanced into the kitchen as I headed to the restroom (the floor so dirty that you don't even want to imagine) and was shocked. We discovered hairpieces in one of our dishes. We will definitely never return to this restaurant. The servers were incredibly impolite, and one opened his wallet in front of us and attempted to bribe us not to leave a review of our dining experience. We were disgusted by his action. Ordered the black bean sauce noodles, dry fried chicken wings, and the Kong's beef. The noodles were kind of bland and didn't really have a taste to them. Not sure why they're so popular but glad I tried them so that I'd know. The fry chicken wings were the best!! They were crispy and crunchy and had a sweet flavor to them. Will definitely be back for more of this! The Koong's beef had a sweet flavor to it and was lean. Went very well with white rice. Reminded me of a less sweet bulgogi. All in all, I'd be back for the chicken wings and the beef dish. read more

Prob more of a 3.5 but the chicken wings were really good so rounded up. Im not sure whats goin on with the prices or the taxes, but I ordered two dishes to go and it came out to $21.97 after tax so pretax means it was like $20...but on the menu the wings were $7.99 and the braised tofu dish was like $10 making $18 so it really doesnt add up...this is the 2nd time this has happened to me (at a diff restaurant) where shit just doesnt add up and I didnt get an itemized receipt so it is what it is...just wanted ppl to take note of not only this place but other places as well... Food: Fried Chicken Wings- Listen to the yelpers on this one...this is really good! It could have a lil more crisp but otherwise its well done and the wings are juicy. The sauce is really great too. Braised Tofu- Mmm pretty much what you would expect out of this dish. Not spectacular but def exactly what I wanted. It was well done and made correctly. Overall, at the price point, I would def come back. The dishes dont have too much frills, but theyre the simple chinese (+krn) dishes that you miss and when you want a simple meal. I had the black bean noodles and the fried chicken. The black bean noodles were nothing special and the best words to describe it would be filling. I wish that the black bean sauce would have had more flavor. The fried chicken was very good. The outside was crispy while the coating of the chicken was very saucy. There was an infuse of spiciness and sweetness in the sauce. But i think if you do not eat this right away, the chicken will become very mushy. A tree knocked out our power on New Years Eve so we decided to try Koong's. It wasn't very busy and we had a choice of tables. The table and floors were neat and clean. Menus and tea ( luke warm ) came soon after we were seated. There was only one person taking orders but she was ok. I'd say she was a bit stressed. I had a craving for something spicy so we ordered Kung Pao Chicken. It was a bit disappointing, not at all spicy and it was pretty oily. Overall not a great experience. Perhaps we should have tried a different dish. I guess there's always next time. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!! If i could i would put no stars! We went inside got sat. No menus no plates no drinks nothing. Just told us to sit down. A group of 3 comes in and they attended them first with plates drinks etc. We had bren waiting for over 15 mins, Ridiculous! I have been going there for years since I was little and to be treated like that and on Christmas was not ok at all. It's sad this place is going downhill! Don't eat here! read more

I really enjoy the seafood noodle soup!  So much seafood inside.  Soup is so delicious.  Noodles have a great chewy feeling.  You can tell it's old style cooking that you don't find in many restaurants now.  Nowadays new restaurants are expensive with little food inside.  This one definitely worth the price! read more
