Chicken and Shrimp Lettuce Wraps.
Michael W.

Kona Grill is one of those places I have forgotten about but have decent memories of. Will you have the best meal of your life? Probably not. But when you want a late-night bite, pickings are slim unless you want breakfast food or burgers. At least at Kona Grill, you can have better quality food that won't leave you feeling greasy. I ordered the Chicken & Shrimp Lettuce Wraps and they were good. I will say that Joyce W. makes better lettuce wraps at home. The accompanying sauce was also weird. Nonetheless, not a bad spot. They have a generous Happy Hour menu too. Decent eats. Wouldn't mind stopping in again but I wouldn't make it a destination.

The science is clear: margaritas are basically self-care in a glass. You gotta love their Happy Hour deals. It's tiered with $3, $6, and $9 Happy Hour deals. This menu includes discounted sushi rolls (like the California or Spicy Tuna), sliders, fries, margaritas, and sake bombers. On this visit, I ordered a Philadelphia Roll, the spiked Jones soda from the HH menu, and shared the HH loaded fries with my friend. She also let me try some of her yellowtail sushi. Fabulous. It's been such a long time since I've popped into a Kona Grill and it was pleasant. Are you getting the world's freshest fish? Of course not but late night eats that isn't a burger and fries? I can't complain.

Haven't been here in years so we stopped in sadly just after happy hr ended. We ordered the lettuce wraps, a sushi roll and potstickers. Shout-out to the bartender making me a lychee martini with a twist. Sadly the food was subpar to what I remember. The potstickers tasted frozen and reheated. The lettuce wraps were oddly spicy could not tell if it was the sauce or the meat that had the spice. Sushi roll had a dramatic presentation and was flavorful but had a lot of green onions that seemed oddly placed in there and overpowered the roll some. For our bill to be almost $80 it was a little upsetting that the food wasn't better. Our waitress was nice and restaurant was busy yet clean.

I am updating my review to 5 stars. After my original experience, management followed through and refunded the full order as promised. I appreciate that they took the time to address my concerns and make things right. Thank you, Tim, for your responsiveness and for resolving the issue. Great customer service and accountability go a long way.

Summer 2026 summer features

We enjoyed our experience so much last month that we return tonight. We tried two of the summer specials, the Wagyu burrito and the summer salmon with broccoli and turmeric rice. I enjoyed the flavors of the salmon, but the salmon was overcooked by a couple of minutes, so it was a little on the dry side. The Wagyu beef burrito had great flavors, but it was a little dry and could use a little extra sauce or salsa on the side. During our last visit, the music was not so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. Tonight was different. The music was very loud. Actually, we couldn't hear the music because all we heard is loud pounding which eventually became annoying. Mark was a terrific server and he was helpful in getting us out the minute that we finished our meal. We like the food, but if the music is more typically like it was tonight, we probably won't return soon. However, even though it's very hot outside, we checked the patio and it was different music at a reasonable level. So maybe we'll come back when it's a little cooler out ask to sit on the patio.

I used to love tuna tartare/ tuna tower but they changed the recipe and it is so spicy and also doesn't have rice anymore. I miss the old recipe so much. Still had good service, ambience and experience.

Not typically a place I would usually go to but because the customer service has been so good, we continue to consistently come back. The menu is pretty large, there is definitely something here for everyone. Most of the portions are very generous but was a little surprised with the Pot Stickers. The price is up there but it's a very small order. Food has been hit or miss but overall it's decent. I love that the kids menus have a choice of sushi to order. It also comes with 2 sides and a drink. Our kids loved when they had orange slices but didn't care for the, "canned pineapple" is what they were calling it. There's also inside and outside dining areas with a variety of seating, tables, booths, and a bar.

We were sorry to see the Scottsdale location go away, so here we are at Scottsdale location for more good stuff. Kona Grill offers a unique ambience, unique service and unique food. The atmosphere, staff, menu, cocktails, atmosphere and attention to detail is unique, inviting and comfortable - I call it a Pan Asian Pub! It never ceases to amaze me as to the depth and breadth of their incredible and voluminous menu. Each and every bite taken Kona Grill has been a satisfying one, not everything though is perfect, but they are consistent in their preparation, display and tastes. On this visit we decided on an assortment of goodies which we started with a well-prepared Kona Mule and my super ice-cold Kona Big Wave Ale. Wanting to try a variety of their offerings, we started with the deliciously tender Chicken Satay. Next was a messy yet delish and fresh Chicken and Lettuce wraps. Still more, we got the California Rolls - fresh, tender, perfectly don rice with terrific innards. We wrapped up the meal with their KG Sliders. The sliders are excellent... with perfectly medium grilled patties covered in tender grilled onions, whatever their secret sauce is, King's Hawaiian slider rolls, along with some of the best fries my Wife and I have ever tried. They're good enough to order alone! With a choice of both spacious indoor area and bar, or an extraordinary outdoor patio with bar, one is easily comforted while enjoying the meal. It's amazing that with twenty-three locations, they can keep the consistency and quality up. Guys, we'll be back. 食事をお楽しみ下さい

Ribeye with green beans

We stopped by for happy hour. I was disappointed in the lettuce size and freshness (see photo)! The shrimp taco plating was also plopped on. My husband ordered the ribeye steak, medium, but it came out well done. Our server had it remade. The flavor of the steak was good. However, they should get thicker consistent steak size, so they can cook it right with a nice sear without overcooking.

We had an amazing experience at Kona Grill Gilbert. Mark Savage was our server and he rocked the house! The happy hour is incredible! You can try everything at a really reasonable price. I really enjoyed the macadamia nut chicken, the chicken sauté, and the beef sliders. Great space for large parties.

We came in at 2 on Friday, there was hardly anyone there, maybe 8-10 tables filled throughout the place, which is decent size for busy hours. It took us half an hour to get our food from when we set and ordered. Our food was actually pretty decent accept for my son's mac n cheese, both him and our daughter said it tasted like dish soap so maybe the dish it was in wasn't rinsed well or the container they cooked it in wasn't rinsed? Our waitress Erica was great, she seemed to be the only one there and managing more than tables as the whole hour plus we were there we only saw a hostess (who doesn't say much, not even a thank you for coming in" when we left) and Erica and another worker. We enjoyed our food but more likely won't come back with how slow service was when it wasn't busy, if it was slam packed busy then it be more understandable for half hour wait for our food.

Kids pizza half eaten
Charleen B.

We came here around 1 pm on a Sunday and there was a woman waiting at the front lobby to be helped when we arrived. No one was around until a server Erica came by and assisted us with getting seated when the host/hostess was nowhere to be found. We were seated on the patio with our dog and it was a nice day out. Plenty of parking on that side of the plaza as most people park towards the middle of the shopping center. Erica was our server during our meal as well and she was friendly and nice. We ordered the fried pickles, KG cheeseburger, seabass sliders and a kids pizza. Fried pickles (3/5) I love pickles and I enjoyed them but it was also pretty salty. My boyfriend also felt they were a bit soggy. We were expecting them to be more breaded. KG cheeseburger (3/5) Average cheeseburger and nothing special, my boyfriend also said it was a bit dry. Seabass Sliders (3.5/5) subbed fries instead of chips. This was my favorite dish out of everything we got but it still fell a bit short. Didn't taste the miso or furikake, mostly tasted the slaw. The Hawaiian bread felt like it came straight out of the bag and wasn't toasted or warmed but overall it tasted good. Small portions for the price. Kids pizza (2/5) Was not expecting this to be on a flatbread. Fairly simple - flatbread topped with pizza sauce and cheese. But it tasted like it came out of a cardboard box or the freezer. I know you can't really expect much for a kids meal but I've had much better pizzas for cheaper at casual fast food places. All in all the service was good and the food is okay but definitely not worth the prices they are charging. If each item was $3 to $5 cheaper then that would be more on par with their quality.

Restaurant Week menu - May 2026
Donna F.

WARNING, very long review. Underwhelming, unimpressive and bland. Where do I even start. It's a Thursday night (after a HS graduation) & we had a 10pm reservation for 11. We were able to easily change it to 9 as two in our party couldn't make it anymore. We arrived around 9:45, was sat a little bit before 10pm and that's when the waiting began. Our server took our order for drinks & appetizers after about ~15 min of staring at our menus. Took another ~ 10 min for our waters/sodas to arrive. Took another ~10 min for the bar drinks after that. Was probably 35+ min after we sat down for her to take our actual entree order... by this time, it was past 11pm before the two plates of potstickers and two bowls of edamame were placed in front of us. The only item I enjoyed from those two items was the sauce for the potstickers. In my opinion, the edamame was undercooked and lacked flavor. Sea salt sprinkled on top is not enough seasoning. Now more waiting. We kept looking over at the sushi bar area and could see orders waiting to be delivered to different tables.. I had ordered the Restaurant Week dinner which consisted of three courses. I chose: Picasso Roll, Steak frites & double stack brownie for dessert. I'm only giving 2 stars because of the Picasso Roll and our server continuously apologized when she would deliver anything to the table, BUT she seemed to always be MIA. Maybe they were short staffed? Maybe a few people called in? Not one manager or lead came by the table to check on us. At this point we had lost track of the time. Half of our table used the cloth napkins as blankets since the air was blowing directly on our table. We asked our server if it something could be done about that & she said she would speak to the manager about it. *shrugging shoulders* MOST of our entrees arrived close to midnight (when the restaurant closes). The server said she would be back to deliver the baby back ribs and also bring hot sauce that someone in our party asked for. After at least a 10 min wait, my cousin ended up getting up and approached the sushi bar area to ask for sriracha herself. We also had to ask the hostess to check on the baby back ribs as our server again was MIA. When the plate was delivered, she didn't remember to bring any hot sauce. (It's ok, we're a self sufficient group at this point). My steak frites entree. Ummm, eh. The bearnaise sauce had no flavor. I really tried. I had some with each bite of my steak (I had to, the steak didn't have any flavor), but it didn't help. I ended up using the potsticker sauce the steak really needed some help. Due to the long wait, we decided we would just get our desserts to-go (three of us had either 'Taste of Kona' or the 'Restaurant Week' option & it came with it). Now that was another wait. We finally walked out of the restaurant around 12:35am. Oh lastly, two people ordered miso soup and that never arrived. My cousin approached the manager about the wait, the missing items and all he said was there was no excuse for the service. Not sure what he was able to take off the bill, but this visit surely tested all our patience. I definitely will NOT be back.

So yummy! The scallops are served with a light ponzu sauce drizzled over which complimented the tender scallops. Delicious! From the Restaurant Week menu, I chose the crab & Artichoke dip which we love and it isn't typically on their menu. It was so good and I had to ask for some extra toast points because there was so much dip! I also got the stripped bass, which was cooked to perfection although a smaller portion than the one you get from the regular menu. They do bass right! And for dessert, chose the Pumpkin Pot de Creme, which was my first taste of pumpkin for the season. Creamy and so good although I took off most of the whip cream because it was a lot. My son had ordered food from here as takeout last year. The food taste was interesting, though, I really like the cheese dip for the pretzel bites. The bites were pretty big. Lots of tables at this location, a bit warm. But our party of 14 was easily accommodated. Our daughter chose this place and it was quite loud. My husband and I are quiet people, so if we were to choose again, probably not here because of the loudness and all the TVs all over the place. But for those who like it loud, TVs and do not mind the prices on the menu, have at it. I don't remember our server's name. If she told us, I couldn't hear what she said. She was alright. Honestly, I had a hard time hearing even my son who sat next to me, and hearing my sister who sat one seat over in front of me, I couldn't hear what she was saying. Loudness is an issue for me and I do not have hearing issues. Our bill with tip came to over $700+. That was the most expensive lunch we've ever spent for our party of 14. Typically we're in the $400-500 range. But it was a special occasion. My husband and son got the 36 hr ribs. My husband really loved them. My son said it was okay. I didn't ask my brother and BIL who also got the same dish. I know my BIL was unhappy that he didn't get the side he requested and when they gave it to him (asparagus, I think), it was cold and he wasn't pleased about this. I got the hub burger and it was okay. There was a lot on the burger, but the patty itself, didn't have that much flavor. Some of the "Starters" or appetizers things were salted too much, but the burger did not taste like it had any salt. I had eaten too many starters so when my food came, I wasn't very hungry and took most of it home and ate for dinner another night. My husband and son do not like coleslaw and I ate theirs. THIS I really liked and tasted much better than KFC. I loved the sweetness and that the cabbage was shredded bigger than KFC. The pretzel bites were good. We got wings, and they were so-so. The roasted brussel sprouts were too salty. The deviled eggs were okay, but pricey for 2.5 eggs, which I do pay at Trader Joe's for organic free range pasturized eggs I could've gotten over 2 dozens. But, yes, I pay for the service and ambiance. I really thought there would be more than 5 halves for the deviled eggs. We got the nachos and they were okay. The melted cheese sauce was the best part. My mom got the fish and chips and she seemed to pick at it. She didn't want to take home, so it must not have been that good because she almost always takes a doggy bag home. My sister had the salmon and it was in a huge bowl and didn't look to be that much food. It was pricey. One of my SILs got something I didn't recognize and she said it was okay. No one I could tell was over the moon with the taste of the food and I heard the word "interesting" quite a bit. It's not that it tasted bad, but it didn't really taste good good. You know what I mean? I did bring a special order cake I got at Nothing Bundt Cakes in Gilbert. I asked Culinary Dropout if we could borrow a cake cutter. They didn't have one. Weird. This was a Red Velvet cake and this was absolutely divine. It was moist. The frosting was some sort of yummy cream cheese frosting. The cake was perfectly sized for our party of 14. The cake was the best part of our meal and it didn't come from Culinary Dropout. I would pay this much for a meal at Roy's for lunch for this sized party, but alas, all the Roy's in the valley are closed down. So sad. I'm not saying this place is bad or the food tastes bad. It's okay and pricey. If the food was great or amazing, we don't mind pricey. We have paid over $1K for meals for our big party, and happily do so when the food is equivalent to the price.
