A friendly server came over to our table shortly after to introduce himself and take our drink orders. My friend ordered a Jones soda and I a spicy marg. Then we ordered the following to share: Yellowtail Philly roll Loaded fries (sans bacon) Chicken lettuce wraps I was pleasantly surprised by all of the offerings on their happy hour menu. Came here for a group dinner and was very disappointed. The service was pretty bad. The waiter was cleaning his area the whole time he was serving us so he was very inattentive and distracted. We would call his name to get his attention and he wouldn't answer. He never filled our waters or drinks and we ordered stuff at the end and it came so late we thought he had forgot it. He even forgot a dish we ordered and responded with "you never ordered that." Although he had the dish made and gave it on the house it was very disappointing. We even had to ask for the check because he kept disappearing. The food was ok but the salmon in many dishes we ordered both cooked and raw had multiple bones in it! DO NOT EAT HERE This is the only negative review I have ever left in 10 years of having this account. This is by far. The worst restaurant. I have ever. Been too. My$55 ribeye steak was ( no I'm not kidding) the thickness of 1 prong on my fork. The " crab Oscar" I got on top was indeed not an Oscar at all, it was instead a lump of nasty imitation crab which I wish they said on their menu and not " crab" to say it was Oscar was hilarious to me. My wife's " prime rib" was literally just a seared steak I've never seen prime rib like that nor have I ever had horse radish sauce that tastes like straight sour cream and somehow sugar? She had a half a lobster tail with hers and attached is the photos of said lobster that had less meat than my thumb. These 2 dishes, fried pickles, calamari and 1 single drink came out to almost $200. This was by far the worst restaurant I've ever been too. Do yourself a favor and just walk to the left of this building and walk directly into a restaurant called " the keg" they actually have good food and are fantastic service always. The only reason we came here was because the keg didn't open till 3 and it was 2 pm. I've been many places, all over the world. Different states, different cuisine, forest, deserts, oceans, and I can honestly say this was the worst restaurant I have ever been to I don't even understand how they are in business. Kona Grill is one of those places I have forgotten about but have decent memories of. Will you have the best meal of your life? Probably not. But when you want a late-night bite, pickings are slim unless you want breakfast food or burgers. At least at Kona Grill, you can have better quality food that won't leave you feeling greasy. Shout-out to the bartender making me a lychee martini with a twist. Sadly the food was subpar to what I remember. The potstickers tasted frozen and reheated. The lettuce wraps were oddly spicy could not tell if it was the sauce or the meat that had the spice. Sushi roll had a dramatic presentation and was flavorful but had a lot of green onions that seemed oddly placed in there and overpowered the roll some. We enjoyed our experience so much last month that we return tonight. We tried two of the summer specials, the Wagyu burrito and the summer salmon with broccoli and turmeric rice. I enjoyed the flavors of the salmon, but the salmon was overcooked by a couple of minutes, so it was a little on the dry side. The Wagyu beef burrito had great flavors, but it was a little dry and could use a little extra sauce or salsa on the side. During our last visit, the music was not so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. Tonight was different. The music was very loud. Actually, we couldn't hear the music because all we heard is loud pounding which eventually became annoying. Mark was a terrific server and he was helpful in getting us out the minute that we finished our meal. We like the food, but if the music is more typically like it was tonight, we probably won't return soon. However, even though it's very hot outside, we checked the patio and it was different music at a reasonable level. The menu is pretty large, there is definitely something here for everyone. Most of the portions are very generous but was a little surprised with the Pot Stickers. On this visit we decided on an assortment of goodies which we started with a well-prepared Kona Mule and my super ice-cold Kona Big Wave Ale. Wanting to try a variety of their offerings, we started with the deliciously tender Chicken Satay. Next was a messy yet delish and fresh Chicken and Lettuce wraps. Still more, we got the California Rolls - fresh, tender, perfectly don rice with terrific innards. We wrapped up the meal with their KG Sliders. The sliders are excellent... with perfectly medium grilled patties covered in tender grilled onions, whatever their secret sauce is, King's Hawaiian slider rolls, along with some of the best fries my Wife and I have ever tried. We came in at 2 on Friday, there was hardly anyone there, maybe 8-10 tables filled throughout the place, which is decent size for busy hours. It took us half an hour to get our food from when we set and ordered. Our food was actually pretty decent accept for my son's mac n cheese, both him and our daughter said it tasted like dish soap so maybe the dish it was in wasn't rinsed well or the container they cooked it in wasn't rinsed? Our waitress Erica was great, she seemed to be the only one there and managing more than tables as the whole hour plus we were there we only saw a hostess (who doesn't say much, not even a thank you for coming in" when we left) and Erica and another worker. Took my mom here for lunch today. Sadly was the worst lettuce wraps I've ever had. I know they are served different in each restaurant but this was a bowl of mush, only a few chopped cucumbers and 3 pieces of leafy lettuce that didn't hold the filling. No one was around until a server Erica came by and assisted us with getting seated when the host/hostess was nowhere to be found. We were seated on the patio with our dog and it was a nice day out. The Hawaiian bread felt like it came straight out of the bag and wasn't toasted or warmed but overall it tasted good. Small portions for the price. Kids pizza (2/5) Was not expecting this to be on a flatbread. Fairly simple - flatbread topped with pizza sauce and cheese. But it tasted like it came out of a cardboard box or the freezer. WARNING, very long review. Underwhelming, unimpressive and bland. Where do I even start. It's a Thursday night (after a HS graduation) & we had a 10pm reservation for 11. We were able to easily change it to 9 as two in our party couldn't make it anymore. We arrived around 9:45, was sat a little bit before 10pm and that's when the waiting began. Our server took our order for drinks & appetizers after about ~15 min of staring at our menus. Took another ~ 10 min for our waters/sodas to arrive. Took another ~10 min for the bar drinks after that. Was probably 35+ min after we sat down for her to take our actual entree order... by this time, it was past 11pm before the two plates of potstickers and two bowls of edamame were placed in front of us. The only item I enjoyed from those two items was the sauce for the potstickers. In my opinion, the edamame was undercooked and lacked flavor. Sea salt sprinkled on top is not enough seasoning. Now more waiting. We kept looking over at the sushi bar area and could see orders waiting to be delivered to different tables.. I had ordered the Restaurant Week dinner which consisted of three courses. I chose: Picasso Roll, Steak frites & double stack brownie for dessert. I'm only giving 2 stars because of the Picasso Roll and our server continuously apologized when she would deliver anything to the table, BUT she seemed to always be MIA. Maybe they were short staffed? Maybe a few people called in? Not one manager or lead came by the table to check on us. At this point we had lost track of the time. After at least a 10 min wait, my cousin ended up getting up and approached the sushi bar area to ask for sriracha herself. We also had to ask the hostess to check on the baby back ribs as our server again was MIA. When the plate was delivered, she didn't remember to bring any hot sauce. (It's ok, we're a self sufficient group at this point). My steak frites entree. Ummm, eh. The bearnaise sauce had no flavor. I really tried. I had some with each bite of my steak (I had to, the steak didn't have any flavor), but it didn't help. I ended up using the potsticker sauce the steak really needed some help. Due to the long wait, we decided we would just get our desserts to-go (three of us had either 'Taste of Kona' or the 'Restaurant Week' option & it came with it). Now that was another wait. We finally walked out of the restaurant around 12:35am. Oh lastly, two people ordered miso soup and that never arrived. My cousin approached the manager about the wait, the missing items and all he said was there was no excuse for the service. Met a girlfriend for lunch at noon on a Sunday. The place was very quiet and we were seated right away. We enjoyed a glass of tea and she had the meatball appetizer telling me she gets it every time. We haven't been here in forever and I know they changed their menu all the time. We got seated outside and chatted. Got our drinks and ordered food. Everything was amazing. The food was delicious and the desserts as well. Thank you to my friends and the waiter (whom I forgot his name, but he wore glasses and had a cross over his neck) but he was super nice and gave suggestions on what to get. The service was great and attentive. We went in with our Resy credit from American Express. They have a special running right now with pre fixe menus (restaurant week and taste of Kona). There are some good options. The food is decent for their sushi options but the salad and steak were not fresh. I would recommend getting another option like their burgers. They also have some great happy hour options Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 6 PM, there is a 6 dollar burger meal, and again from 9 PM to close. The decor is a modern design with a dsrker ambience. Would give the happy hour a try just for the deal but would not recommend the steak options. The brownie dessert was great. The brownie was moist and soft on the inside. Visited on a Friday night for date night. We made a reservation on Open Table for 6:30 and were seated immediately upon arrival. The waiter came in inder 5 mins to acknowledge us and to get our drink order, water for me, Sprite for my wife. He came back shortly thereafter to get our food orders. I order the Steak Frites which was a 6oz NY Strip and fries and my wife ordered the sweet chile salmon w/fried rice. The food came quickly and was got. I will say I was disappointed with the portion of my strip, you'll see in the picture. It looks smaller than 6 oz however it was tender and flavorful. I ate it in 3 bites. My wife's salmon was very good though, and I'm not a salmon fan. The fried rice was just as good, although it was a weird combo; we've never had salmon and fried rice. The people at the booth were super nice and friendly. Decided to try Kona for the first time as I had a free margarita card from the food festival with purchase (excluding happy hour). The sushi roll was definitely not fresh. You could taste that the ingredients have been sitting out. It was very off putting. The happy hour portions blew my mind. Not in the way you think. They're so small and yet pricey. Listen..... for 3 gyoza....it is $6. For 5 popcorn chickens it's $6. That is so not worth the money. Very pricey! It's like they're trying to be fancy but it's not. Now I'm not sure how hard it is to make a margarita but the one helping us at the bar took forever! Kona wasn't very busy at the time but it was loud. It was loud because the staff was gossiping and congregating by the bar. They talked so loud it was overwhelming. The margarita did not get to us until our food did. Would've been nice to enjoy it while waiting? I wasn't impressed or would I ever go back. Such a disappointment. Glad I gave it a try but I don't recommend. Although our server was polite, she seemed distracted and overwhelmed. Definitely not what you expect from a place that brands itself as "upscale." Adding insult to injury, my sister had a $25 sign-up coupon from their rewards program, which they refused to honor. There were no disclaimers or restrictions listed, but we were told "the system won't allow it." That felt like a bait-and-switch and left a bad taste before the food even arrived. Speaking of food--sadly, that didn't redeem the night either. Everything we ordered was forgettable, and overall, the experience felt like a waste of what should have been a special evening. It's especially disappointing given that Kona Grill is part of the same hospitality group that owns STK Steakhouse. After this, I have zero interest in trying STK. So we went on a whim to Kona. I got the sushi and a burger .. I tried to switch the American cheese (cheap) to Swiss or another non processed cheese. They dont have any other cheese.
