I went in for dinner at the bar and kept the order pretty simple--just a couple of drinks and a small plate of food. Nothing complicated, yet parts of the meal were missing (no salad, soup, or steamed rice), and I had to ask for the rest of the order. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed, so I do want to be fair--it seemed like they really needed a second bartender or at least a barback to help with dishes and glassware. Service was quite slow, my meal was incomplete, and even getting the check took a while. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the price given the overall experience. Terrible experience from start to finish. As soon as we were seated at the teppan table, our server Jasmine made it clear she didn't want to be there--rude, dismissive, and inattentive the entire time. Even the other parties at our table noticed and commented on it. The food didn't make up for it. I ordered a filet mignon and got something that was clearly not a filet--cut up like scraps. Our group ordered steaks mid-rare to medium, and every single one came out well done. Basic parts of the meal were missed or delayed. The rice never came until we asked (and arrived too late to matter), drinks were wrong with no real attempt to fix them, and the hot green tea was forgotten entirely until we reminded her. Was shopping in Chandler Mall, and got super delayed, couldnt make reservations so just walked up to the receptionist and wanted to check if they took walk ins. Luckily it was just the two of us and it was around 8:30pm. Well, never been here, so this was a hit or miss for us. Heard alot of mixed reviews of this place. I think it also counts with the chef that you get. the chef we got, Chef Ricky was fantastic. There was only another couple on our table, but, we had a ball of a time, the chef was fun and very interactive. I, unfortunately have developed shellfish and egg allergies and everyone else had ordered egg fried rice, but, the chef was very innovative and made a special garlicy sauce for the steamed rice i was given. the A5 wagyu was cooked to perfection. I was provided with options of tofu or extra veggies, the tofu was spectacular! Over all quite a good experience for last minute walk in! Bartender Jade is such a sweetheart! She modified the dirty bowl mocktail for me so that I could order it less sweet. I was here with a group of five with friends in from out of town and we had a wonderful lunch experience! I ordered my usual Hibachi Steak rare, always love the soup and salad and all the fixins that come with lunch! Our Hibachi chef one was fantastic, so friendly funny in personable. Our server was a bit impatient and kept interrupting our conversations and over explaining things which we all found a bit off-putting. She also kept getting in the way of the photos we were trying to take with the kids with the onion volcano and it felt like she was rushing us out as soon as the meal was over so my only suggestion would be to be a bit more attentive to the dynamics of a group. Got a slot for 6:30, I'm still here waiting an hour later. when they say you make an online "reservation", I'm not sure that means what I think it means. What a miserable experience. We went there because we were celebrating an event and my kids have not been to a hibachi grill and I thought they would enjoy it. I cannot eat gluten so we got the gluten free menu. I also went over everything with the waitress who was very confident that everything would be GF. Went on Friday, around 545ish didn't have to wait for a table, sat right away and greeted by Ashley quickly after. We got sat with a couple and their kids. Ya know it's always awkward sitting with strangers but this family was actually minding their own business. We ordered a fishbowl of a rum drink, we were just enjoying our date night and it was boozy but way too sweet for my normal liking but it's good. We ordered the spicy chicken potstickers and the gyoza eggrolls both were very good. Long our chef was requested by the other party at the table and we saw why. He was fantastically entertaining he made egg snowmen, and of course a steaming onion train, he cooked all food to perfection. The wagyu fried rice was 10 out of 10. Very Disappointing Experience at Benihana I recently had a very disappointing experience at Benihana. The overall service and preparation were far below what I expect from this restaurant. Our chef came to the table unprepared and was missing several basic items. He had no pepper for seasoning and no mushrooms, which are normally included with the vegetables. He also didn't even have the oil needed to perform the signature fire trick, which is a standard part of the Benihana experience, and had to stop to request it. I ordered double fried rice, but instead of making additional rice, the chef brought out three bowls and said he could "make four out of that." He simply divided the same rice among four bowls, so the portions were noticeably smaller. Since there were only three of us at the table and the extra rice was supposed to be to take home, this was frustrating. I also never received the salad that normally comes with the meal and had to ask about it after we had already packed up. They eventually offered to give me one to go. The food itself was very bland, and I had to add a lot of Yum Yum sauce just to give the rice some flavor. The most concerning issue was that I informed the chef I am allergic to shellfish, yet he cooked shrimp fried rice directly in front of me on the grill where I was seated. The smoke and steam were blowing directly toward me, which is extremely concerning for someone with a shellfish allergy. Overall, the experience felt disorganized and careless, with missing items, reduced portions, forgotten dishes, and a serious disregard for an allergy concern. Went in for lunch yesterday, ordered edemame and drinks. Ordered lunch, about 20 minutes later the cook said "order up" in a quiet voice (the music was loud) It was our order which sat on the counter for 9 minutes. We flagged down a manager and told him the issue, we heard him tell the cook to reheat our meal. We'll seafood doesn't reheat well. Another man came to our table and apologized and said he would cover our meal. When I told him our food was being reheated, he said they were making a new meal, which was a lie. I have not been to Benihana in like 15 years and when I went it used to be the creme de la creme if hibachi restaurants. I'm sad to report that they aren't anymore. This was probably the worst Benihana's that I've ever been to. First, it took us over 15 mins to get seated when we had a reservation. Second, we sat down and had three dirty plates in my party. The restaurant is old and outdated. The tables are so badly worn. Our chef even spilled water on the person sitting next to us while doing his Hibachi demo. LOL!! We wanted a special 'last meal' for him, but the experience was a series of massive service failures. The Service & Safety: * Allergy Oversight: My wife has a shellfish allergy and made it known immediately. While they started her meal first, the chef completely forgot the allergy when preparing the fried rice. Her rice had to be remade in the kitchen and didn't arrive until 30-40 minutes after the rest of us had got our rice. * The Drink Wait: It took 45 minutes for my Prickly Pear Margarita to arrive. * The "Show": Our chef had zero personality and was very difficult to understand. It was frustrating to watch the table next to us laughing and having a great time while our chef felt completely disengaged and had no personality or flair. The Food & Value: * Missing Courses: We were told at the end that we didn't get the dessert that was supposed to be part of our 5-course meal. * Atmosphere: The noise level was so high I could hardly hear my wife sitting right next to me. * Billing Error: When the check came, it was originally $315. We were being overcharged $62.50 for a meal we never ordered. We had to point this out just to get it corrected to the $250 total. With all of this, the food was meh. It was edible but wasn't anything amazing. It left alot to be desired. For a $250+ dinner (after corrections), the lack of attention to detail and the safety slip-up with the allergy was frustrating. They slipped us in on a table because we didn't have reservations. I think we lucked out with no shows. Ambiance 5/5 The entryway foyer and waiting areas were nice. The seating Grill table area was large with numerous tables accommodating 2-4 people per side. One side is reserved for your table Chef. Menu 5/5 There is a large selection from starters to Sushi to Chef wok prepared meals. Service 5/5 This experience is Chef driven. All ingredients are prepped in the kitchen and brought to the table for cooking. Our table went with the fried Rice with individual protein and vegetable options. The Chef also prepared a variety of grill proteins the group shared. Performance 5/5 Our Chef was wonderful. He displayed his cooking skills with humor making the experience memorable. I have been a loyal Benihana customer for 15 years. This location has gone down hill badly. Went to celebrate my birthday with my family and parents. The location was very busy for early Sunday night. We had a back corner table. Service was absolutely terrible. Waitress took over 30 mins to take orders and get drinks. I had to ask the manager for refills through the 2 plus hour dinner. We didn't get our chief for over 80 mins since being seated. The final Issue was how dirty the place is. The vent fans, table menus and bathroom. My menu was partially melted and stuck together, and the bathrooms are worse than a rest stop. I have attached photos of the bathroom. I made a reservation at Benihana for two teppanyaki grills to accommodate 20 people for my birthday celebration. We arrived at 4:45 PM and checked in, only to be told they were running 25 minutes behind our reservation time. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of making a reservation is if you're still going to have a significant wait, but okay. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting 35 minutes with no communication or updates. My husband finally went inside to ask for an ETA, and that's when we were told they were waiting on tables to open up. More time passed, and then someone came out, called our name excitedly as if we were about to be seated -- only to tell us not to get too excited. She wanted to know if we'd be willing to squeeze a party of 12 into a 10-person table, saying it would be tight but doable, or we could be separated and wait even longer. Mind you, we had a reservation. I agreed, as long as we wouldn't be sitting on top of each other and could comfortably eat. Once seated, we were served salad and soup. Our server, Latisha, was wonderful -- very kind and attentive. She told us our chef would be with us momentarily, but that was not the case. We waited another 45 minutes to an hour before a chef arrived. By then, everyone was irritated and hungry. My brother-in-law even flagged down who we thought was a manager (a woman with a mohawk), but nothing was done to improve the situation. Finally, Chef Maury arrived -- and he completely turned the experience around. He did a fantastic job, was engaging, and truly gave us the fun teppanyaki experience we were hoping for. He saved the night. However, the management was extremely disappointing. This was my birthday celebration, and what should have started as an exciting evening began with frustration and unhappy guests. I've been to Benihana several times and was so excited to celebrate here and show my family and friends why I enjoy it so much. You can imagine how disappointing this experience was. Benihana has been a family birthday tradition for years, and this visit meant even more to us. Last year was our last birthday celebration with our son, Alex, who passed away just under a year ago. First of all, we had one of the best chefs we've ever had Justin! Believe me, we've been to Benihana in five different states, and Justin is hands down the best. This restaurant is clean, very open, and has beautiful décor. The teppanyaki table we were seated at was spotless. We ordered all of our favorites, and everything was absolutely delicious. We made reservations a full month in advance, yet when we arrived, we waited over 30 minutes just to be seated. After finally sitting down, our server took our drink order but then disappeared. No one checked on our table for over an hour. Meanwhile, tables seated well after us were already receiving appetizers and attentive service. After waiting far too long, we asked to speak with a manager. Only then did things start moving, though slowly our appetizers still took another 15 minutes to arrive. The chef was then rushed to our table and clearly wasn't informed about how long we had been waiting. Through no fault of his own, he hurried through preparing our food and skipped the usual show that's a key part of the experience. Because of the pressure, mistakes started happening. He accidentally dropped a bowl of butter onto my father's shoes. After cooking, he attempted to do the "show" portion, but it felt rushed and out of place since the food was already done. Things got worse when he began cleaning the grill something caught on the scraper, causing hot oil and food debris to splash onto my wife. It ruined her dress and even caused a burn that resulted in a blister. All of this happened while nearby tables who arrived after us were enjoying their meals and having a great time, which made the experience even more frustrating. When the manager returned, the only resolution offered was $60 off a future visit, which felt completely inadequate given what happened. We have no intention of returning after this experience. To be fair, the chef seemed to be the only person making any effort under difficult circumstances. However, the service staff appeared disengaged, and the overall lack of management was evident. It felt like employees were more focused on socializing than doing their jobs. We don't eat here often but when we do it's quite a special treat! We had reservations for happy hour and requested seats in the bar area for an early and light dinner. The friendly bartender waited on us and gave great feedback to our questions. We got some pan fried spicy chicken gyoza, salmon avocado roll, chili ponzu yellowtail, and spicy crispy rice. We had just enough to satisfy and not be overly full. We'd recommend going to Benihana for a special occasion since it can be pricey to go and it is nice to enjoy something special every once in a while. We prefer to go before it gets crowded so we can enjoy the experience and not feel rushed. There's plenty of parking right outside the entrance. We got seated after our reservation time The waiter Jadon kept forgetting drinks and stuff we asked for. Barely checked on us and i had to ask other employees for water or things. Had to tell employees three times we needed GF salad and soup. They don't have enough chefs or the schedule was messed up, we didn't get a chef for almost two hours. No one told us that there would be a longer wait and no one told us they were behind. So everyone around us was complaining, heard tables would walk out because of the wait. I don't think Benihana would save a table for a customer for 46 minutes. Our server didn't know how to do his job and he seemed totally fine with that. The chef took a long time to arrive and start cooking. Once he finally showed up had to keep stopping and getting stuff because our server messed up the order. Food was very salty. You don't need to pour salt on seafood and ruin a lobster tail. The place was dirty. The mens room was gross and the doorhandles was falling off. We realized after we left the server forgot to give us the included tea. We didn't leave until after 9:00. Health Department needs to shut this place down. This review is only about the drinks. I ordered a Mai Tai. My friend who was with me ordered a specialty margarita. My Mai Tai was good in size, but it was made wrong. By wrong, I mean very wrong. I should have sent it back. I paid $17 for what looked and tasted a lot like orange juice with a touch of bitters. It might have had a shot of Rum in it, but if it did I could not taste it at all. I make Mai Tai's learned from a Hawaiian recipe. The key ingredients are: 1 to 1.5 oz of silver or spiced rum (coconut rum or add the coconut oil to it) 1/2 oz of Amaretto and 1/2 oz of lime juice, 2 to 3 shots of either Orange Juice or orange curacao (option to add a few oz of pineapple juice. I used both this and the orange) and a must is top it by floating 1.5 oz of a dark rum. I use Mahina Dark Rum. So, this Mai Tai was lacking a lot and not at all having the dark rum like the picture showed. My friend stated his was very low flavor and he did not taste the alcohol in it. Is this place under new management?? We had a reservation and they were 30 mins behind. A ton of people waiting. They purposely over book with zero disregard for people's time. From drinks to soups was over 15 mins, from soup to salad was close to 25 mins. People who sat with us had 5:30 reservations and didn't get seated until after 6:00. This place is now about numbers instead of quality. Bathrooms were out of toilet paper, grills still had left over food from previous orders. I have list all respect for this place. I recently made a reservation for my birthday. Thankfully, I was looking at reviews, including menu pricing, online. Over a six year period, the price of the dish I normally get increased 47%! Incase anyone doesn't know or is interested, the average increase is 3-5% a year. Nearly 50% increase is ridiculous!! I cancelled my reservation and made one at their competitors instead. Though the restaurant was busier than usual for a Wednesday evening, due to numerous graduation celebrations, our party of 7 was seated quickly and on-time for our 5:30pm reservation. Drink orders were promptly taken followed by our dinner orders, with plenty of help from our informative and helpful server (I wish I caught her name!) Next up, the star of the show...K.C. All the way from the island of Oahu, he brings an exciting new experience to the table. Being seasoned hibachi diners, we've seen all of the classic "tricks" on the grill. *yawn* It was a refreshing change from the norm with K.C. preparing our meal. The place got busier and busier as we waited I finally spoke to a manger and they seated us. The server than proceeded to tell us that we would prob not eat for another 40 mins as they were behind. They offered us free salad that already comes with the meal for waiting. I asked if we could get some free drinks or appetizers and are appetizer and they said no. We left. The chicken was extremely dry, probably because it was the first thing on the grill & after being cut up, it cooked & cooked & cooked until it was dry & tasteless! Sadly another example of a once great restuarant, that trades on it's former reputation. We tried a teppanyaki competitor in the East Valley & had a superior meal. Everyone is so friendly and work efficiently with the customers. Families and celebrations were all around. Your drink and good order is taken. Thank you gang for service with a friendly smile. Our Chef Hong was entertaining. The hibachi is one of many Japanese type dishes served. The hibachi meals are 5 or 6 courses ( soup, salad, entree with fried or steamed rice, a vegetable and desert. Price averages about $60 with one cocktail. It is not 100% authentic, but filling. I celebrated a family birthday so my focus was elsewhere rather than pictures.
