First, can we talk about this Arizona heat? My little one was extra fussy, and I really didn't want to unbuckle her just to run inside. I called the restaurant to see if there was any chance they could bring my order out to the car, and they didn't hesitate for a second. They were so kind and told me that as soon as my food was ready, they'd bring it right out to me--and they did! It's those small acts of kindness that leave a lasting impression. Going above and beyond for a busy mom in 100+ degree weather might seem like a little thing, but it made my day so much easier. As for the food... the Hibachi Chicken burrito was SO good! It was flavorful, filling, and paired perfectly with the extra side of teriyaki sauce. I also ordered a side salad, which was fresh and a great addition to the meal. The customer service alone earned five stars, and the delicious food sealed the deal. I can't wait to come back when I have more time and enjoy the full dine-in hibachi experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I feel obligated to share it. My husband and I chose Benihana in Chandler to celebrate his birthday, and what should have been a special evening ended with us walking out after over an hour without receiving a single drink or any food. We had an 8:00 PM reservation and arrived about five minutes early. Despite there being virtually no one at the host stand, we weren't acknowledged for over seven minutes. Once we were finally greeted, we were told to wait "just a few minutes." That turned into another 10 minutes before we were seated. We intentionally chose seats in the middle of the hibachi table because we wanted to enjoy the chef's performance. Once seated, our server promptly took both our drink and dinner orders since we were already behind due to the delays. We thought things were finally moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, they weren't. About 35 minutes after we were seated, a host came over and asked us to move so another family could sit together. We reluctantly agreed, even though it was inconvenient. When I asked our server when the chef would begin cooking, she explained that we had to wait for the newly seated party to order. That is completely unacceptable. We made a reservation, arrived early, ordered immediately, and yet we were expected to sit there indefinitely because another party arrived later and hadn't even placed their order yet. Why should our experience be delayed because of someone else's schedule? To make matters worse, the children at the table were incredibly disruptive and disrespectful throughout the entire wait. When we politely mentioned it to the parents, the response we received was, "They're kids, let them do what they want." There was no consideration for anyone else trying to enjoy their meal or celebrate a special occasion. Staff never stepped in to address the situation. After waiting over an hour from our reservation time, we still had not received our drinks, no chef had started cooking, and no food had been served. At that point, we had enough. We got up and left. This wasn't just a disappointing dinner. It completely ruined my husband's birthday celebration. We chose Benihana because we expected a fun, memorable experience, and instead we left frustrated, hungry, and feeling like our time and special occasion meant nothing. This level of service is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant that requires reservations and markets itself as an experience. A reservation should actually mean something. I expect someone from management or the General Manager to contact me directly regarding this experience. An apology alone will not make up for a birthday celebration that cannot be recreated. Benihana needs to take responsibility for how poorly this entire evening was handled and explain what will be done to ensure other guests celebrating special occasions are not treated the same way. read more

I went here for a solo birthday celebration and to use my bday coupon. I am happy they changed all of the restrictions on it. Anyway, I made a reservation so when I arrived I was immediately seated with a couple and a family. The hostess was nice and welcoming. We ordered drinks and they made it out to us in a timely manner. I got the white peach sake sangria. It was delicious! We all ordered our food and that's when things got a little frustrating. We waited about 45 minutes for the cook to come out. But when he did, he was great. He was funny and nice. The food was delicious! I got the steak dinner with spicy chicken fried rice. The manager did give a discount on our bills and came to apologize, which was nice. The place was lively. It was crowded and a lot of people were trying to get a table. I suggest making a reservation. Overall, it was a decent experience. It was my first time dining alone at a teppanyaki restaurant so I didn't know they'd seat me at a random table. Five stars for our chef Alex. He was great and put in a lot of effort to entertain our table. He had so many tricks and puns that I was getting a bit overstimulated (and I told him this, and he took it well, and in good humor, which I appreciated). He's clearly put in a lot of work to learn his craft. I would go back again for Alex, not necessarily the food. I did enjoy the sautéed mushrooms and onions but the food overall could be better. Had nothing to do with his cooking skills. I prefer the food and rice recipe and salad and soup and steak etc at a different teppanyaki place. Benihana needs to invest in better quality tenderloin. I went in for dinner at the bar and kept the order pretty simple--just a couple of drinks and a small plate of food. Nothing complicated, yet parts of the meal were missing (no salad, soup, or steamed rice), and I had to ask for the rest of the order. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed, so I do want to be fair--it seemed like they really needed a second bartender or at least a barback to help with dishes and glassware. Service was quite slow, my meal was incomplete, and even getting the check took a while. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the price given the overall experience. Very upset and will most likely never go back! I called to make a reservation and asked if we could use my $50.00 birthday reward with the lunch menu today and was told yes. He didn't bother yo explain there is no lunch menu! As soon as we were seated at the teppan table, our server Jasmine made it clear she didn't want to be there--rude, dismissive, and inattentive the entire time. Even the other parties at our table noticed and commented on it. The food didn't make up for it. I ordered a filet mignon and got something that was clearly not a filet--cut up like scraps. Our group ordered steaks mid-rare to medium, and every single one came out well done. Basic parts of the meal were missed or delayed. The rice never came until we asked (and arrived too late to matter), drinks were wrong with no real attempt to fix them, and the hot green tea was forgotten entirely until we reminded her. What a miserable experience. We went there because we were celebrating an event and my kids have not been to a hibachi grill and I thought they would enjoy it. I cannot eat gluten so we got the gluten free menu. I also went over everything with the waitress who was very confident that everything would be GF. Went on Friday, around 545ish didn't have to wait for a table, sat right away and greeted by Ashley quickly after. We got sat with a couple and their kids. Ya know it's always awkward sitting with strangers but this family was actually minding their own business. We ordered a fishbowl of a rum drink, we were just enjoying our date night and it was boozy but way too sweet for my normal liking but it's good. We ordered the spicy chicken potstickers and the gyoza eggrolls both were very good. Long our chef was requested by the other party at the table and we saw why. He was fantastically entertaining he made egg snowmen, and of course a steaming onion train, he cooked all food to perfection. The wagyu fried rice was 10 out of 10. Luckily it was just the two of us and it was around 8:30pm. Well, never been here, so this was a hit or miss for us. Heard alot of mixed reviews of this place. I think it also counts with the chef that you get. the chef we got, Chef Ricky was fantastic. There was only another couple on our table, but, we had a ball of a time, the chef was fun and very interactive. I have not been to Benihana in like 15 years and when I went it used to be the creme de la creme if hibachi restaurants. I'm sad to report that they aren't anymore. This was probably the worst Benihana's that I've ever been to. First, it took us over 15 mins to get seated when we had a reservation. Second, we sat down and had three dirty plates in my party. The restaurant is old and outdated. The tables are so badly worn. Our chef even spilled water on the person sitting next to us while doing his Hibachi demo. LOL!! First off, our hibachi chef was excellent. Alex, I think was his name, did a great job entertaining and making things as requested by the 2 families sitting there. He goes by Shrimp Shady :) The main reason for the 1 star review is everything else from our meal on Father's Day. First off, the lady who was taking our order was just flat out rude. We have dietary restrictions and it was like we were making her job extra hard. My wife is vegetarian and my daughter eats seafood and I eat white meat and seafood. She brought out the mushroom soup that comes with the meal and I overheard it comes with beef broth, so I told her I can't have that and I don't need the miso. She rolled her eyes and did a huff/groan sound. Menu doesn't state it's a beef soup so I didn't ask. My wife double checked her stuff was vegetarian and she was acting like asking her the question was a big ask. We were given a lunch menu with the other 6 pieces of menus. I told her I want this item and she looks at me and says uh that's only for weekdays. Then why am I given this menu when it doesn't even say on it that' it's for weekdays only? I was here with a group of five with friends in from out of town and we had a wonderful lunch experience! I ordered my usual Hibachi Steak rare, always love the soup and salad and all the fixins that come with lunch! Our Hibachi chef one was fantastic, so friendly funny in personable. Our server was a bit impatient and kept interrupting our conversations and over explaining things which we all found a bit off-putting. She also kept getting in the way of the photos we were trying to take with the kids with the onion volcano and it felt like she was rushing us out as soon as the meal was over so my only suggestion would be to be a bit more attentive to the dynamics of a group. Very Disappointing Experience at Benihana I recently had a very disappointing experience at Benihana. The overall service and preparation were far below what I expect from this restaurant. Our chef came to the table unprepared and was missing several basic items. He had no pepper for seasoning and no mushrooms, which are normally included with the vegetables. He also didn't even have the oil needed to perform the signature fire trick, which is a standard part of the Benihana experience, and had to stop to request it. I ordered double fried rice, but instead of making additional rice, the chef brought out three bowls and said he could "make four out of that." He simply divided the same rice among four bowls, so the portions were noticeably smaller. Since there were only three of us at the table and the extra rice was supposed to be to take home, this was frustrating. I also never received the salad that normally comes with the meal and had to ask about it after we had already packed up. They eventually offered to give me one to go. The food itself was very bland, and I had to add a lot of Yum Yum sauce just to give the rice some flavor. The most concerning issue was that I informed the chef I am allergic to shellfish, yet he cooked shrimp fried rice directly in front of me on the grill where I was seated. The smoke and steam were blowing directly toward me, which is extremely concerning for someone with a shellfish allergy. Overall, the experience felt disorganized and careless, with missing items, reduced portions, forgotten dishes, and a serious disregard for an allergy concern. We don't eat here often but when we do it's quite a special treat! We had reservations for happy hour and requested seats in the bar area for an early and light dinner. The friendly bartender waited on us and gave great feedback to our questions. We got some pan fried spicy chicken gyoza, salmon avocado roll, chili ponzu yellowtail, and spicy crispy rice. We had just enough to satisfy and not be overly full. We'd recommend going to Benihana for a special occasion since it can be pricey to go and it is nice to enjoy something special every once in a while. We prefer to go before it gets crowded so we can enjoy the experience and not feel rushed. There's plenty of parking right outside the entrance. I reserved a table and we didn't get sat for almost 35 minutes and then when we did get seated, it took about 15 minutes for the drinks 20 minutes for the soup another 20 minutes for the salad and then the chef was completely unprofessional. And didn't do any of the tricks that everybody else was getting at every other table and we had three small children with us One of the toilets in the women's bathroom was completely full of poop and was running all over the floor and the same hostesses and bussers that were cleaning tables were mopping that up. Ordered lunch, about 20 minutes later the cook said "order up" in a quiet voice (the music was loud) It was our order which sat on the counter for 9 minutes. We flagged down a manager and told him the issue, we heard him tell the cook to reheat our meal. We'll seafood doesn't reheat well. Another man came to our table and apologized and said he would cover our meal. When I told him our food was being reheated, he said they were making a new meal, which was a lie. I wish I knew how terrible this place was before I went for my son's birthday. I made reservations noting it was his birthday, we even told the server. They did nothing for it, no song or anything (we saw them do it for another table). The server got our orders and never came back until I had to flag someone down near the end of our meal because everyone's glasses had been sitting empty. The cook didn't do any special show- egg toss to people, saki pour, etc. They charged $8 extra if you want friend rice instead of steamed. Considering how expensive this place was, I cannot believe the service they allowed. Whoever is managing needs to rethink how they're running this place. They filled all the tables, as I looked around most tables had empty drinks. If they don't have staff they shouldn't be filling the tables up. Lastly, this place made me very sick afterwards. 100% do not recommend. Maybe try Reya in Gilbert if you're wanting teppanyaki, better prices, better food, substantially better service. We had a reservation for 6:15 which we arrived on time for. The waiting area was overcrowded. After 20 mins of waiting I chatted with other people waiting and we all had the same story. Hostess didn't know anything. The manager finally sat us and didn't seem to care when we told him we waited 46 minutes to be sat. I don't think Benihana would save a table for a customer for 46 minutes. Our server didn't know how to do his job and he seemed totally fine with that. The chef took a long time to arrive and start cooking. Once he finally showed up had to keep stopping and getting stuff because our server messed up the order. Food was very salty. You don't need to pour salt on seafood and ruin a lobster tail. The place was dirty. The mens room was gross and the doorhandles was falling off. We realized after we left the server forgot to give us the included tea. We didn't leave until after 9:00. Health Department needs to shut this place down. I made a reservation at Benihana for two teppanyaki grills to accommodate 20 people for my birthday celebration. We arrived at 4:45 PM and checked in, only to be told they were running 25 minutes behind our reservation time. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of making a reservation is if you're still going to have a significant wait, but okay. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting 35 minutes with no communication or updates. My husband finally went inside to ask for an ETA, and that's when we were told they were waiting on tables to open up. More time passed, and then someone came out, called our name excitedly as if we were about to be seated -- only to tell us not to get too excited. She wanted to know if we'd be willing to squeeze a party of 12 into a 10-person table, saying it would be tight but doable, or we could be separated and wait even longer. Mind you, we had a reservation. I agreed, as long as we wouldn't be sitting on top of each other and could comfortably eat. Once seated, we were served salad and soup. Our server, Latisha, was wonderful -- very kind and attentive. She told us our chef would be with us momentarily, but that was not the case. We waited another 45 minutes to an hour before a chef arrived. By then, everyone was irritated and hungry. My brother-in-law even flagged down who we thought was a manager (a woman with a mohawk), but nothing was done to improve the situation. Finally, Chef Maury arrived -- and he completely turned the experience around. He did a fantastic job, was engaging, and truly gave us the fun teppanyaki experience we were hoping for. He saved the night. However, the management was extremely disappointing. This was my birthday celebration, and what should have started as an exciting evening began with frustration and unhappy guests. I've been to Benihana several times and was so excited to celebrate here and show my family and friends why I enjoy it so much. You can imagine how disappointing this experience was. Soooo excited to try the Benihana experience for the first time ever. While the show was a pleasantry, the food was A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! The waiter AND COOK were both informed CLEARLY I do not eat red meat. As the presentation began, the cook was reminded I DO NOT EAT "red meat or pork". The cook joked "no pork here, only beef". was reassured my food would be cooked 1st! Well IT WAS'NT! And not just the chicken...SO DOES THE MUSHROOMS which the cook offered to me! Having a revelation the cook cleans his spatula and serves me the last few pieces of chicken which I reluctantly try given it's a $60 meal. Man, that shit was DRYER than a old school choke sandwich. The server was so slow one party went up to the receptionist to pay their bill because we all waited so long for checks. The location was very busy for early Sunday night. We had a back corner table. Service was absolutely terrible. Waitress took over 30 mins to take orders and get drinks. I had to ask the manager for refills through the 2 plus hour dinner. We didn't get our chief for over 80 mins since being seated. The final Issue was how dirty the place is. The vent fans, table menus and bathroom. My menu was partially melted and stuck together, and the bathrooms are worse than a rest stop. I have attached photos of the bathroom. This review is only about the drinks. I ordered a Mai Tai. My friend who was with me ordered a specialty margarita. My Mai Tai was good in size, but it was made wrong. By wrong, I mean very wrong. I should have sent it back. I paid $17 for what looked and tasted a lot like orange juice with a touch of bitters. It might have had a shot of Rum in it, but if it did I could not taste it at all. I make Mai Tai's learned from a Hawaiian recipe. The key ingredients are: 1 to 1.5 oz of silver or spiced rum (coconut rum or add the coconut oil to it) 1/2 oz of Amaretto and 1/2 oz of lime juice, 2 to 3 shots of either Orange Juice or orange curacao (option to add a few oz of pineapple juice. I used both this and the orange) and a must is top it by floating 1.5 oz of a dark rum. I use Mahina Dark Rum. So, this Mai Tai was lacking a lot and not at all having the dark rum like the picture showed. My friend stated his was very low flavor and he did not taste the alcohol in it. Went here in New Year's Day for an early dinner. Getting a reservation was super easy. Even on such a busy day. Our entire experience was fabulous. From the servers, to the chef, to the food. I have some reservations about how they handle reservations. Got a slot for 6:30, I'm still here waiting an hour later. when they say you make an online "reservation", I'm not sure that means what I think it means. If you guessed "reservation" means "wait for an indeterminate time while incompetent staff handle the crowd like they all just walked up on a lark and demanded food", you guessed right. Seated us 30 minutes after reservation time. Didn't see a chef for an hour after. So just waiting around for hour and half. Waitresses are rude and passive aggressive. Mess of a restaurant. Also AC barely works so it's super hot. read more
