    YUMMY ROLL
    Tracy P.

Deal right now while the restaurant is under some construction they have BOGO rolls! The rolls were filling and delicious! My favorite were the Yummy Roll, Lollipop Roll, and Surfer Roll. The Alaskan roll was really good too, but the other rolls were just so good. The salmon was super fresh. The surfer roll was super filling and big. Portions sizes are great. Service was amazing. The place looks super nice and looks like when construction finishes, outdoor seating will be available.

Came here during a buy one get one offer and it did not disappoint. Ordering was quick and easy. Indoors is one of the nicest decorated restaurants in the area. Tall ceilings and warm lights. Order: *yummy 4/5. If you like cucumber wrapped rolls *lollipop - 4/5. Presentation is notable *surfer -5/5. Very sizable and lots of shrimp *Alaskan -5/5. lots of salmon on top

Love this sushi spot. Been coming here for over 3 years. They've recently gotten new management, but service is still great. Wish they kept some of their specials from previous ownership. Will be back again They do have two small t.v.s that play above the sushi bar. They also have booth and table seating. They also have an outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice.

Because sushi is one of my absolute faves, it's such a disappointment when I get subpar sushi. The last time I was here was pre-covid, so I figured it was time to try again and instantly regretted it as soon as I tasted the fishy rolls. We ordered 4 rolls: cowboy- spicy tuna topped with tuna sashimi with spicy aioli and sriracha, cowgirl- spicy yellowtail topped with yellowtail sashimi with spicy aioli and sriracha, spicy tuna roll, and yellowtail roll. I Immediately noticed how loose the rolls were! It looked very amateurish and the tuna and yellowtail sashimi on top of the rolls were so tiny! The most important of all, the taste of the rolls, was not good at all. Everything tasted fishy that no amount of aioli or sriracha could hide. Honestly, quality would've been better off at an AYCE. We ended up eating less than half and took the rest home as I hate wasting food. Well, I just could not get myself to eat the rest and ended up tossing it anyway:( Service was very lacking just like the food. The server was not friendly at all and acted as if he was being bothered. It was probably the worst service I've experienced in a very long time. I guess there was a good reason why I hadn't been here in so long.

I was looking forward to dining here as it was my first time here and unfortunately it was very disappointing. We ordered 4 different rolls and they all tasted fishy and there was so much sauce on the rolls that after a while everything started to taste the same. The tuna and yellowtail on top of the rolls were ridiculously tiny! It was actually quite surprising to get such poor quality food especially for what they charge. On top of lacking quality and overpriced food, customer service was no existent. Pretty sure I will not be returning here.

My boyfriend and I came to Shimogamo for Mother's Day and ordered the five-course meal. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing compared to our previous visit. The biggest issue was the service. Our waitress, an older woman, came across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude throughout the evening. When we were seated, she offered complimentary rosé. I accepted a glass, but my boyfriend does not drink alcohol, so he politely asked if he could order a mocktail instead. Before he could even finish, she abruptly responded, "No, you can wait to place an order for that," as if he was trying to substitute the complimentary drink, which he was not. He was simply trying to order a beverage. Later, when the braised beef course was served, my boyfriend politely asked if he could have a spoon or fork. The waitress loudly repeated "A SPOON?" in a mocking tone in front of nearby guests, which made the interaction uncomfortable and embarrassing. As for the food, the five-course menu was average at best and far below what we expected from Shimogamo. The salmon tartare and sushi course were both excellent and showed the quality we remembered from our first visit. However, the remaining courses fell flat. The fried branzino was dry and seemed poorly prepared, despite the promising flavors of capers and cream sauce. The braised short rib felt completely out of place on the menu and lacked refinement it was dry, heavy, and more reminiscent of a chain steakhouse meal than an upscale dining experience. The entire dinner also felt rushed, with little attention to pacing or hospitality. What makes this especially disappointing is that we dined here back in November on a double date and had an incredible experience. We spent over $600 that evening, and the service and food were exceptional. Our waitress at that time was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. She guided us through recommendations, and every dish impressed us. That's why this visit was so surprising. Shimogamo clearly has the ability to provide an outstanding dining experience, which makes the decline in both service and execution even more concerning. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because this restaurant was once one of our favorites.

The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. It's not really just squid legs had other parts of squid which I didn't mind. It tasted pretty good with slight crisp to it.. Batter had some seasoning which made it tastier. Then my ramen came.. Looked pretty good but portion looked small. But then again for costing $14 can't complain. Broth was nice and hearty and I couldn't quite figure out the flavor. Then I read the description and it said sesame.. Then it made little more sense of the flavor. I definitely would not call it spicy. Ramen noodle was nice and chewy just the way I like it.. Our server forgot about us multiple times!! I understand that it was busy... BUT... we were sitting right where we could be seen, as it has a smaller indoor dining area.  We had to ask to order drinks after waiting 10 minutes. After drinks, our server did check in, and we ordered our appetizers, but it took a total of 45 minutes to receive all except one.  When I asked where the missing item was, the server stated that they were out after checking, after we had waited for so long for it !!   Afterwards, a server got busy again and did not return, so I had to ask another server to grab water, boxes for appetizers and another menu, so I could see if I wanted anything else after.  I looked at the menu, and another few minutes went by until our actual server brought containers for sauces, and proceeded to bring the check WITHOUT us asking.  This whole interaction happened over TWO HOURS !! This was frankly a long time to be waited on for drinks and appetizers when we were hoping to enjoy a much larger meal, but we didn't want to be there all night.  I am really disappointed as it was supposed to be one of our special places. I'm WILLING to give it another try, but if the service is just as unfortunate we will not be coming back. I will say the food is delicious each time, but the prices are high for average quality and slow service.
