Came here with friends to get some sushi and drinks. The interior is very nice and I like the modern vibe that it has. I enjoyed the music as they played several Bieber songs and had a good mix of pop and R&B. It felt very clean in here as well. We were greeted promptly and were sat at the only high top which I liked. Our server brought water and asked if we preferred sparking which I did appreciate as I do prefer sparkling. We ordered several dishes to share at the table and some entrees as well as a some bottles of sake. Tuna Nigiri 8.5/10 Salmon Nigiri 9/10 Eel Nigiri 10/10 Chickens Egg Rolls 9/10 Oysters 8.5/10 Bonsai Burger 9/10 Orange Chicken (Extra Spicy) 10/10 The food did not disappoint and the service was great. When it first opened, the sushi was excellent--fresh, flavorful, and one of my favorite spots. Unfortunately, with each name change, the quality seems to have slipped a little. The food is still good, but it's not what it used to be. There were also several service issues during our most recent visit. After our table was cleared, we waited over 30 minutes just to get our check. We also had to ask three separate times before we finally received wasabi. A couple of menu issues stood out as well. The surf and turf roll had a sweet sauce on it that wasn't mentioned on the menu, which was unexpected. We also requested eel sauce on only half of one sushi roll, but it was put on the entire roll instead. The restaurant is clean, has a nice atmosphere, and the staff was friendly, which is why I'm giving it three stars instead of less. I genuinely want this place to succeed because I remember how great it was when it first opened. I reviewed the previous comments and honestly found them a bit much. This location is near a 65+ community, so many of the reviews naturally reflect that crowd and atmosphere. That being said, the food was incredible, the drinks were excellent, and the service went far beyond expectations. I had the California rolls, the Poppin Roll, the killer fried rice, and finished it all off with a lava cake, every single thing was amazing. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and honestly exceeded expectations. Definitely one of the better dining experiences I've had in a while. I had the pleasure of being served this afternoon by Isabelle, Kensie, and Melanie, and all three were absolutely amazing. They were attentive, friendly, and made the entire experience enjoyable. We came in for happy hour during the week. Happy hour is from 4pm-6pm Tuesday-Friday as of 4-2026. The restaurant offers inside and outside seating. The inside of the restaurant feels spacious, clean, has a modern vibe and their music selection is heavily Justin Timberlake. No issues with JT but it caught our attention. If you would like Chopsticks you will need to request them and they will bring them to you in a display box and you pick your pair. Our server Melanie was friendly and tried to make our dining experience as pleasant as she could. I would like to provide the feedback about the delivery of the food to our table because I would have enjoyed the dining experience a more if the food would have came out in a timely manner. One of my friends was among the first to place her order first for Spicy Tuna Roll and the our other friends ordered and received their food before her. She didn't received her food until we informed our server. The same thing happened with my order of the Bonsai Fries. The items were brought out, our server did apologize and informed us they would be removed from our bill. I also place a second order of the Vegas rolls and never received them but we were done with our meals therefore I did not inform our server. If this process could be reviewed and improved then it would make a difference in the customer experience. I ordered the following items during happy hour: Vegas Rolls $9 Spicy Tuna Roll $6 Bonsai Fries $9 Blue Point Oysters $3 Cherry Blossom $6 White Lotus Martini $6 The food was good except for the Bonsai Fries. Food, service, and overall aesthetic are good, only thing to be weary of if you're of color (minority) you will get dirty looks from other patrons and comments made about you from them as well as an older gentleman in particular who seemed to be affiliated with the restaurant in a higher standard than a manager who goes in as a patron... Made our recent trip into a restaurant that we have been loyal patrons for years very uncomfortable and not want to continue visiting which is very unfortunate and disappointing as other than this we have loved this establishment. Decided to try this place. Ambiance is fine, service was good. Should have known from the menu options that they don't have a speciality. Everything tasted like pre packed sushi you can get from the grocery store. And it wasn't good. I thought some of the fish wasn't cured properly but decided to eat it anyway. Got home, stomach started hurting, started getting the burps and then that's all she wrote. No didn't have alcohol just a normal coke zero. I knew from the smell I shouldn't have ate it. My wife told me not to but it was the first thing I was eating for the day.....and my last lol. She got a bento box with teriyaki chicken. She was fine, didn't like her food. Once again nothing special. Nothing u can't make at home with a chicken breast and bachans and it probably woulda have tasted better. It did not upset her stomach however. Because sushi is one of my absolute faves, it's such a disappointment when I get subpar sushi. The last time I was here was pre-covid, so I figured it was time to try again and instantly regretted it as soon as I tasted the fishy rolls. I Immediately noticed how loose the rolls were! It looked very amateurish and the tuna and yellowtail sashimi on top of the rolls were so tiny! The most important of all, the taste of the rolls, was not good at all. Everything tasted fishy that no amount of aioli or sriracha could hide. Honestly, quality would've been better off at an AYCE. We ended up eating less than half and took the rest home as I hate wasting food. Well, I just could not get myself to eat the rest and ended up tossing it anyway:( Service was very lacking just like the food. The server was not friendly at all and acted as if he was being bothered. It was probably the worst service I've experienced in a very long time. We ordered 4 different rolls and they all tasted fishy and there was so much sauce on the rolls that after a while everything started to taste the same. Met up with friends here on a Friday night. It's located in an area with other bars/restaurants and apartments, which makes finding a parking spot very difficult in busy times. Parked at least 100yds away making a chilly walk to the restaurant. We sat on the patio which had ample seating and space heaters. Indoors there's about a dozen tables, including one or two larger party tables that were already taken. We ordered many sushi plates to share. It was still happy hour, but the sushi is only$1-2 off and not a significant savings. I really enjoy the sushi here. The Poppin was a table favorite! Also love the Strawberry Butterfish roll! My son got a chicken teriyaki dish and enjoyed it which was a relief as he usually doesn't find much he wants at sushi restaurants. Server was good but took a little time to get the bill. Overall the service was good. Will continue to dine here once or twice a year, mostly for those incredible specialty rolls. read more

I ordered a kids chicken meal. The chicken was very uncooked to the point it was raw. I was thankful to had cut the chicken open before giving it to my young child. We would have been really sick. I also order chicken noodles to go and they brought them as I had said I didn't want any chicken because it was undercooked. Not impressed. When I visit a sushi restaurant I first look at the chilled items in the display case at the the sushi bar. The display at Bonsai was awful. Of what was on display which was little the items did not look appealing, they looked for a better word tired! However I took a chance. At the bar there was an unopened carton of soy sauce in front of me! Not an appealing sight when eating. The back of the bar was untidy, again, not an appealing view while dining. I hate to say it, but this rating is solely based on me discovering at the end of our wonderful meal, that they charged us a 3.000% fee for using a credit card. The food was excellent, the service was fantastic, and I was honestly looking forward to making this a regular staple for our date nights. It's about the fact that it is 2026 and we live in a virtually cashless society. Not to mention this is a higher end sushi restaurant in Ocotillo. Let's not try and pretend that 95%+ of the clientele in this area aren't paying by credit card. Do not charge the public for using the medium of payment that is widely accepted by all. If you're too cheap to cover the cost to Visa, then increase your prices slightly so we won't know the difference. But adding this fee just makes you appear tacky as a restaurant. The special on Monday is great here. It is BOGO sushi rolls, although it used to be 50% off rolls which was a better deal. Regardless, this is a great spot for well priced sushi on deal. There's lots of variety to choose from! I shared 4 rolls with my friend and we enjoyed all of them. I especially like the rainbow roll (super fresh)! The yellowtail jalapeño was also delicious. KIG and Rose's Roll are good too, but heavier since it had a fried component. The service is okay, but check your bill before leaving. We visited this new concept in Chandler and it did not disappoint! I Had some of the best sashimi I have ever had! Jose made this dish for us and the sushi was super fresh. My boyfriend had the Burger (I know its not sushi) but he was in the mood for a burger. It was off the charts good!! My family sat there awkwardly as several staff members looked our way but never acknowledged us. I promised my kids I'd take them to sushi today, and that was the only time that would fit around baseball practice. We had edamame to start. Their most popular roll is the Poppin. We had 2 of those, 2 rainbow rolls, an order of yellowtail sashimi, rose's eel roll, and a crunchy. My son doesn't like sushi, so he gets the Korean BBQ beef for an entree. Needless to say, I had hungry eyes when I ordered and we had to take home 2 1/2 rolls. But considering we had dinner at 4pm... I'm sure they will be eaten later tonight! Having been a regular at RockLobster, I was excited to see what Bansai was all about last night. It was a disaster. AJ forgot about us, we ordered apps, and it took more than 30 minutes to get steamed edamame. After the apps, we sat, and sat, waited and waited for someone to take our entree order, fed up, we waived down AJ and he was almost indifferent, but he apologized, and launched into how we should've come on Monday for the BOGO. We got 2 of the entrees, and waited a full 20 minutes for the 3rd. The only one who seemed to be hustling, and acting with service in mind was Isabel. The food was good, but the service was horrific. I will never go back. The absolute lack of coordination and communication among the wait staff will doom this restaurant. read more
