Hubby & I had dinner here last Friday night. We made a reservation. The earliest you can make it for is 5:00. We arrived a little early, so they told us we could sit at the bar & have a drink. We sat there for 15+ minutes & the girl getting things ready for the bar totally ignored us. Right before we were seated someone else took our drink order & said she'd bring them to the table. Hubby got a beer & I got a Tito's & cranberry juice. We ordered an appetizer. While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. I also watch all of the employees but one prepping the food without gloves. This used to be our go to place for, but now with all this issues this time, we will probably have to find a new place. read more

Ryu Sushi is a little unsuspecting; the location is kind of weird in the sense that the parking lot of small. We went here for a friend's birthday, and was it definitely a fun night! The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. First thing is the sushi is really good here, we tried the crunch roll and some sashimi, portions are good and it was delicious. The show was great and we were fortunate to sit at a table with other friendly people so it was a great time. I had the vegetarian Teppanyaki that had stir-fried vegetables and tofu. I also had the chilli cheese sushi - deep-fried jalapeño, cream cheese, cucumber, avocado. Topped with spicy mayo sriracha sauce. Be sure to make a reservation, this was one of the highlights, we get there 25 minutes before our reservation to have some appetizers and sushi. They tell us we are early and put us in the corner of the bar. After about 10 minutes no comes by to say hello to offer drinks etc. I go back to the hostess and ask if we can sit at our table so we can get drinks and sushi, she says no for some odd reason. She says I will send someone to you. A server comes up and is friendly and quick. The food arrives and the hostess says we can seat you know. Why?!, take us to our table and half of the other party not ours is late so here we are at the table still getting our stuff brought over from the bar. You know what's coming next the server from the bar comes over and asks us to pay our bill, so now I have to stop eating my app so I can pay the sever. Still waiting for the other half of the other party to show. We placed our order with the server, the other party shows and now we are cooking with gas. The chef came out and really played it up with our three year old the magic eggs, the spinning of the eggs. She didn't care for the fire act too much. The menu was a little confusing to price out but we got it figured out. If you ordered the entree you got the bigger portion, if you ordered the combo then you got the smaller portion. Then don't use the price of the main, but use the price of the second protein in the combo. Like I said once we knew the rules it was great. Food was good, with the following caveats, I will ask them not to salt or glaze anything. Wow, I was drinking water for 2 days afterward. The salmon was terrible. The filet was perfectly cooked and tender. Here was the biggest turn off. The climate in the room, yes I know they are cooking in front of you. But they let the cook tips heat up 20-30 minutes before they cook so you just sweat from everywhere. Then when get to cooking they shut the hood systems off around you so it does not interfere with the pyrotechnics. They tried adding fans, but why. It's teppanyaki donuts worth it for the show. But it is not a regular staple for me. Our server was great both in the bar and at the table. OA between the snafu about where to sit for appetizers, the sweltering heat on the inside and the over salted food it was just ok. read more

Last minute change of plans for my 50th birthday dinner with my husband brought us to Ryu and it did not disappoint! We got in early and sat at the bar. Austin was the chef making rolls and waited on us right away. Our 1st time here we asked if he had a favorite roll and we ordered off his recommendation 10/10 the Sour Roll. We also had a Vegas roll and firecracker roll....Soooo good! Austin was kind and shared a special birthday treat for my husband and I, he even sang a little happy birthday song to me. By the time we were finished with dinner the place was packed with families celebrating New Years Eve with Teppanyaki. Everyone was enjoying their time and was fun to watch. Sucked! We always go for Mother's Day and this year just stunk. The place was so HOT. All 4 thermostats set at EIGHTY TWO! The food has gone downhill, they sorta rush you, was dirty... idk wtf went on but I'm done with this place. DID NOT order friend rice and charged us all for it without asking. I will NOT be back. I can find a better more comfortable place that's clean for $300! YUCK - the chef kept wiping his sweat with a rag. The exhaust fans must not work the place was billowing smoke. Went here for my birthday dinner last night and had an incredible time! I wish I got the name of our chef but sadly I did not. He was wearing a thick red headband and I have seen him there before. He was so fun tho! I've been to teppanyaki several times and he was the first chef I felt like actually did some fun new tricks. It was a little warm in there. Based on the ratings we went to this place and it was a bit disappointing. Let me start by saying the suggestion on Yelp for reservations isn't accurate. Place was very empty. We were sat right away at the table. We ordered spicy edamame which was good. tuna Nigiri and Salmon. The tuna was good not great but the Salmon has a weird discoloration so we did not eat it. We ordered hot sake and it had a sour vinegar toast to it. I told the girl about it and she said it's their house sake and that's how it's supposed to taste. We qui drinking it. I never had sake with sour vinegar taste. The food the guy cooked was good a bit over salty. He kept squirting liquids from 4-5 different bottles. Then here comes the girl with another sake and she said try this. We tried it and it was normal like sake is supposed to taste. My buddy googled why sake tastes like vinegar and it said it is spoiled or old, see picture attached. Will not go to this place again. read more

Went here yesterday and the place was like a smoky sauna, had to be 90° in there. Steak was miniature, bill was enormous. I asked for my steak medium and it was definitely well done. The people next to us got spinach and sprouts with their food. We got nothing.. small little pile of vegetables mostly onions. Placed an order on a food app. Food was ready in no time, granted it was when it opened up. Came in and asked for my order. Let me say, the lunch sushi rolls were very filling! I got the salmon and spicy tuna rolls-each order has 8 pieces. I also ordered the calamari appetizer. Everything was delicious. My only complaint is the calamari was more than the sushi rolls! Went back for teppanyaki, and me and my friends absolutely loved it ! Had a great time and the food was awesome ! I got the filet and scallops, and both were delicious . I got my filet cooked rare and it was cooked exactly how I like it , melted in my mouth. Generous portions of fried rice (which was delicious ) and we got soup and salad to start. We also ordered some gyoza as an appetizer, which are pan fried (my favorite way to have them). The chef was great and the servers were always good about checking in with drinks and what not . Have been here several times for different occasions, mainly birthdays. Each and every time I've gone, the staff has been very lively, and friendly. The restaurant is always a bit loud, but that is to be expected. It is frequently busy, so they're doing something right! They also put on a wonderful show! Our favorite hibachi chef is Troy, so ask for him! Food was solid, standard for hibachi, with a fair selection of choices for them to toss on the grill. They also have a solid variety of sake options, which include a lot of unique, fruity options. Highly recommend, especially for fun events like birthdays! read more

We stopped here for dinner the other day. The restaurant is clean in the services outstanding. We ordered three of the dinners. We got a sushi roll and one person ordered a glass of wine. I had iced tea. The chef did a nice job of cooking for us. The food was delicious. I will say this is not an inexpensive place to eat. Our bill for three people with one glass of wine and a nice tea was over $150 with tip. I almost gave them three Stars based on the cost of the meal but decided to give them a four because everyone there was working so hard and so pleasant. We were celebrating my birthday and heard rave reviews about Ryu on the Go Gilbert Facebook Page. We were very excited to try it out. The ambiance is typical for a Teppanyaki restaurant. Upscale, but not very formal. It was very hot inside, likely from the griddles. Our main issue was that we waited over an hour to geta chef for our table. There was only one chef at the time and he was just starting a separate table when we arrived. The soup and salad were incredibly small portions. They were really good but we were still starving waiting for our main courses. Our chef was an older man, who was very friendly and entertaining. I ordered the Filet and Scallops, and my mom ordered the Filet and Chicken. Each entree comes with fried rice, vegetables and 2 shrimp, along with 2 dipping sauces. Everything was really good, especially the shrimp. The steak and scallops were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really liked our chef and the food he made, but I cannot give 5 stars due to the ridiculous wait time. Looking for a new spot for dinner tonight and stumbled upon this place. It's in the shopping plaza by Kohl's so it's not as big as you would expect for a teppanyaki place, but there are still a bunch of tables on the main dining side and 8 teppanyaki stations. There is no separation between the two styles of dining, so it gets pretty loud with the excitement over the chef's entertaining cooking (which also makes for a serious case of FOMO since we aren't in on the fun). Hubby ordered the gyoza, firecracker roll, and spicy tuna shrimp tempura. The gyoza was good but nothing special. The shrimp tempura roll had a ton of panko dumped on top and wasn't as spicy as he expected. The firecracker ($15 for 5 pieces) was tasty but also had an interesting mouth feel and texture with the fish wrap instead of seaweed. If you eat it with the lemon peel as recommend, the lemon overpowered the roll. He ate everything, but was just expecting more with all the reviews he read in advance. When we were placing our order, the waitress seemed to be rushing us and didn't write anything down so i quickly just ordered the veggie roll. As I was trying to find something to accommodate my specific dietary needs, everything I asked about was a "they don't do that." I finally landed on a side salad and veggie yakisoba. I asked for tofu to add some protein and again was told they don't do that, but then she came back out and said they would do it for me. The salad ($4) was just iceberg lettuce and some shredded carrots. The yakisoba was flavorful but barely had any veggies other than bok choy, carrots, and green onions. I had asked for a side of seasonal vegetables and was told they don't do that so l basically ended up having a bunch of noodles for dinner. We never saw our server again after my entree was dropped, but another server helped clear our plates and give us the check. Maybe we came on an off night or they are under-staffed, but we were pretty underwhelmed by the dinner. read more

Our server "Vincent " was fantastic! He out on quite a show that we all enjoyed. We liked the atmosphere. Small and more intimate than the bigger places. We had a party of 13 and it was easier for everyone to communicate Food was delicious and done right.
