The server, I believe his name is Jordan and he was fairly new. But he was so nice and helpful. He made sure our drinks were filled always. He was Johnny on the spot taking our order and recommending some dishes they serve. The Food....OMG was SO good. I had the Macadamia chicken dish and my hubby had the BBQ ribs. Everything was delicious and yummy! We sat out of the patio which was a great bonus on a beautiful night as it was tonight. It was our first time there and we will for sure be going again soon. The GM even came over and sat down and asked how we liked it and he gave us complimentary side orders for our next visit. Now that is great Customer service! Thank you so much to everyone there. PS. It did not take long at all for our food to arrive at the table, just wanted to add that in. read more

After sitting at Brio and being ignored we decided to go to Kona Grill. My daughter in law and I were at San Tan shopping after work and wanted a glass of wine and an appetizer. We sat at the bar. No one else in the bar. 2 staff walked in, no acknowledgment. One looking at a ticket, one clearing an empty table. Not one word to us. We waited a bit and walked out. What happened to customer service? read more

Totally forgot about this spot! I used to come here in high school and would go to their Chandler Mall location. Stopped by after a late movie at San Tan Mall and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a reserved happy hour! The food wasn't anything extraordinary, but it was solid, and the service was genuinely friendly. Overall, a decent experience. read more

I came here on Christmas Eve and it was not a great experience. However, after talking with the management team, I came back to try again free of charge. This time, it was night and day. The ambience has music and upscale but not uncomfortably loud that you can't hear. My waiter, Jake was phenomenal and really treated us right. We got the cilantro chicken and steak and we're not disappointed at all. It really was a night and day difference. During the holidays, I'd suggest beefing up the staff to accommodate but outside of that, great job the second time around. read more

terrible!! went on a friday night at it was not bust at all and still had horrible service. I had the $30 steak and it was RAW.. l waited for the server to come back to ask for it to be cooked a bit longer (it was burn on the outside and raw in the middle) The butter sauce was also chunky has a weird film on top, like it sat under the heat lamp. After waiting 15 minutes I just ate my husbands fries instead. His burger was ok, the bun was really dry. No one ever came to see if we needed anything. On our way out there were 2 host and a male serve standing at the podium and not 1 of them said a word to us.. Trust me and Go somewhere else!! read more

We usually come for the appetizers (the avocados rolls are divine). But today we decided to venture out and order the surf and turf (ribeye). Okay so this is just my honest experience. I am a fan of Kona Grill. Steak- hard NO!!! The steak was so thin and super super salty. Shrimp- Not impressed - basic If you come to Kona stick with the appetizers and the sushi - stay away from the steak, that is not their strong suit. :) lol but the vibe is great. Their service is awesome and I honestly love it and I will always come back. I would just never order the steak ever ever again. Appetizers! Hard YES! I have had almost all their appetizers and honestly all of them are delicious and amazing and if you come for happy hour, it is well worth it! Sushi! Yes! I actually enjoy their sushi and if you order two more sushi rolls are 12.50 which is not bad and their rolls are tasty. Desert- I highly recommend their butter cake. You will be more than delighted once you've had it.... Service over all- great service, but be prepared because if you want to get your food fast (outside of the appetizers), you will be waiting a long time. My appetizers came out within a reasonable amount of time and also the sushi, the steak and shrimp took about 50 minutes and the ribeye was ordered medium and for as long as it took, I would've thought it would've been at least an inch thick. It was probably 1/4 inch thin lol so I was surprised it took that long.. asparagus that came with it was overdone, and once again the shrimp was mid. I didn't mind too much because we were out on a date and the conversation was good so we didn't mind that it took long but if you want to sit down dinner and wanna be in and out quickly be prepared you will be there for a little long while. OK, that is my honest experience, my honest review, and again I love this place but I do have to be honest with the good and also the not so good . read more

Our Sunday brunch was here at Kona Grill with some friends. We had a party of 6 + two toddlers and high chairs were included! It has been years since I've been to a Kona Grill, and it wasn't too bad! It was nice a cool inside, dimly lit for an intimate feel but still very open. It did not look very busy when we went and had the typical restaurant chain feel. Our server was very helpful to our table and even to our little ones. They have a good-sized menu, but the pricing took me back a bit. I think I assumed a lunch menu would be available with lower prices. My family and I ordered a French Dip sandwich, Kona Grill Cheeseburger, and Kid's Bento (chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, and edamame) Our meal was pretty good! The Kid's bento is HUGE and my little one can eat but he's only 12 months (lol!) It was a very cute set up and they had cut a bear out of the orange that was provided. I ordered the French Dip sandwich, and that was VERY good: it came with homemade potato crisps, horseradish sauce, and au ju. The horseradish dip was not my favorite, so I skipped it, but everything else was great. My husband ordered the burger, and he gave it a thumbs up! I can not recall what the rest of our table got, but they also enjoyed their entrees. The chef had come out at some point to greet us and check in with our table. He also had given us some coupons to use next time, which was really nice. We also finished out our meal with dessert! The two other families ordered the Butter Cake, which looked really good and came with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce. My husband and I ordered the carrot cake and holy-smokes, that buggah was HUGE. Most places will have an overly sweet frosting, but KG had a nice balance, and I think it was one of the best I've had in a while. It was nice to visit here again, but the menu was much pricier than I had expected, and if we had not been invited, we would not come out. BUT, if we had not been invited, I would have known about their french dip and carrot cake, lol! read more

By far one of the BEST places for Happy Hour! Food & Drink a like. Absolutely LOVE Kona and we take advantage of the amazing food deals during the weekday happy hours. They have changed the menu around a bit/ over time and you don't seem to get as many options, but with that said they still have great deals. They've broken down the pricing for certain menu items that are half off and of course smaller portions yet still are as flavorful & affordable. My first choice on their menu is their meatballs. The perfect texture with a sweet honey glazed coating. Then served with delicious shiitake mushroom, mashed potatoes, topped with a creamy peppercorn sauce & sprinkled with macadamia nuts on top! They're the bomb! Best thing on the menu IMO. I've tried to duplicate them many times and come close, but these are always better! My second choice would be their lettuce wraps. They are so tasty and never disappoint especially when you want something a little lighter. The regular menu also delivers so much more than just this. We've had their sushi rolls that are pretty good. The potstickers are delicious & my son ALWAYS orders their avocado egg rolls and flats bread bbq chicken. The poke bowls use to be offered on the social hour and that was the best priced item for the amount as it was a regular serving at half the price. Still wished they had that bargain as that's a delightful dish also! History: Kona was inspired right here in Arizona. The first restaurant originated at the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall in 1998. Currently, their corporate resides in Colorado. They are thriving respectively serving 17 states. Its concept & branding considers itself to be an American cuisine, sushi, and cocktails chain. However, I personally feel it gives off more of a Hawaiian vibe from the decor to the menu; definitely more Island inspired impression. FYI: They offer an app. you can download for free to see featured specials each week, book reservations, look for new upcoming menu items and see what weekly updates are featured. Within that, the restaurant also has a rewards program where you earn points for discounts and it works for any and all of their locations. I enjoy this kick back especially since it's a place we frequent & I'm earning rewards while enjoying my time $ too! Suggestion: Highly recommend starting with their weekly early bird offers OR the reverse HH after 9 PM ( this is when we go as it's the best time and best service). Note: If you get Danny the Bartender; even better! You'll recognize just how nice and affordable this place is. Cheers! read more

The veggie crunch style salad was the best. I totally agree with the reviews I had previously read. Miso soup was disappointing for I had really been looking forward to the soup. Hardly any tofu. Ambiance: I loved the aquarium; the classy restroom though the air conditioner was a bit too much. Mints at the front in a bowl would make the checkout nicer. It was a Friday afternoon and we were out to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had wanted to do the power lunch but it was over at 02:00PM. The Facebook post didn't seem to give its end time. Website might but it was disappointing missing out. The power special is only $19.00. Service: fast but do ask not assume we all want ice in our drinks. With the bar next to the table, how hard is offering putting lemon and lime in the glass of water? Less rush more class, please. read more

Came for birthday dinner with family. We ordered multiple sushi rolls but the rice was not good and very mushy, not fresh. my kids ordered bento boxes from kids menu and macaroni and cheese was very bland, no flavor. The fish and fried rice dishes were very sweet. The price points this restaurant is asking are not worth the food quality that is put out. Way over priced and service wasn't great either. Our waiter barely came for refills and tried charging us full price on select items that were happy hour. Will not be returning and sad to feel disappointed after what should have been a pleasant birthday dinner. read more

Dottie the manager needs to learn customer service. My wife and I dined in on 7-29-26 We were quickly and it ends up my wife's seat in the booth is very wet due to a busboy putting a bus tub on the seat and it leaked all over the seat. We made our waiter aware that my wife's pants are all wet and we moved to a new booth. Dottie and the hostess checked out the wet seat and went on there way.Dottie never came over to address the obvious PROBLEM. The new server Maria was excellent .We could not have asked for a better server. Dottie seemed to avoid us and seemed to disappear with NO customer service from the so called manager. We were so disappointed in the food and prices associated with food. Prime Rib was cut thin and more than 1/2 was fat. Sole tasted funny. Tempera roll was ok. Manager took sole off the bill. She thought it was acceptable to service a piece of prime rib, the way it was. The portion of "meat" was the size of a soup can. The rest was fat. It will not be going back. Server was friendly. read more

Woefully understaffed... less than half of the restaurant had customers. The servers were running around with no clue. Almost every order out went to the wrong table. Drinks& food, made no difference. I'm not sure if the food is good or not. We got drinks and the server never returned for a food order. It's just weird. Someone in management really needs to step up and take control. Good luck cuz I'm not coming back. read more

So disappointed in Kona Grill. Used to love this place. They shifted away from sushi and bar tenders were TERRIBLE. Waited forever for our drinks only watch them sitting there talking to each other with the restaurant being empty. Ordered two different things that came out room temperature and had to add my own ice. No one wants a warm espresso martini or lemon drop. Food took forever. Waiter was nice and don't blame him...but this was my last time to this restaurant ever. Food was ok. Not great, not bad. read more

The food (sushi) was mid, at best! The service was mid too, our server clearly had lots of things to do or on his mind and was rushed. Won't recommend going there outside of happy hour. read more

We were excited to come here on Christmas Day this year as they have a really good children's menu selection. When we arrived, the hostess was very rude. Then when we sat down, we were advised to order food right away, this was before we even were given water. Then we found out they are not offering the kids menu on Christmas and the only thing they had was one meal that no kid is going to order. It was turkey, stuffing and vegetables. We went ahead and ordered our food. None of the food had any flavor, asked for A1 for the steak to maybe give it flavor and I was told they ran out of it. Worst meal I have had in years and spent $200! The service was horrible too. I get it's Christmas and they are busy but if you can't be nice, offer decent service and decent food just be closed then. read more

I've been to a few different Kona Grill locations and after this last visit I'll say this is probably the last time. The decor hasn't changed in many years and its starting to look really outdated. The large fish tank is nice but honestly not the attraction it was years ago. We were seated near a family with so many kids that were running around I felt like I was in a zoo. I'm not against family friendly restaurants but when the prices are what they are I expect a bit more. Speaking of prices.....$25 per sushi roll?!?! Seriously? Most of the appetizers were in this range as well. With a party of 4 including two kids who had one dish each and split a desert, one roll and one appetizer and our bill was over $150 before tip. That is absolutely insane for the amount and quality of food received and only one drink included. Our server was pleasant but I was really turned off when when my wife and I were asked to provide id while we're sitting with two kids who are in high school. Nearly 50 and looking it I'm over estblishments not being able to use some common sense when it comes to carding patrons. read more

We came here for a date night and to experience Arizona Restaurant Week. The food was so delicious! The Picasso Roll was spicy and beautifully presented. I loved the Ribeye Meatballs. The Cilantro Lime Chicken was the best bite of the night. The only bummer of the evening was dessert; the brownie seemed like it was not made in-house, it was dry and not exactly flavorful. The service moved at a glacial pace. Everyone was super friendly and apologetic, but it took almost 2 1/2 hours for three predetermined courses to come out. Luckily I enjoy my husband's company! I probably wouldn't come back here based on the service. read more

I genuinely hate giving a bad review when the people involved tried hard but didn't succeed in terms of satisfaction. But it is what it is. In fairness to Kona Grill, we dined there on Christmas day. Of course it was busy, so I'm taking that into account or I likely would have given only one star. We had early reservations for dinner (4:30, if I recall) and didn't have to wait for too long beyond 4:30 to be seated, and there were 8 of us at the table. It took quite a while before we saw our server - again they were busy, I get it. Took a little while to order food as well. Food took quite a while to receive and as they were dropping plates off, I literally said to myself, tell me this isn't the portions they serve. My $49 Filet Mignon looked like it was maybe 4 ounces. A small dollop of mashed potatoes on the side and that's it. I cut into my steak and the first couple of bites were a bit under cooked and 100% without seasoning. Bland is an understatement. Spending $49 on a steak and dollop of potatoes (no vegetables, no salad or soup, etc), I would expect the steak to be overwhelmingly amazing. By the third bite, now in the middle of the steak, it was basically rare. I ordered it medium. I could have handled medium rare, but not rare. The server took it back to cook longer, and the request was denied by the kitchen because I had eaten from it. It would have been easy to put the filet in its own separate pan and throw it under the broiler for a minute or two, but I receive the steak back, even colder now than before, still rare. They offered to cook a whole new steak but by this time, everyone else was done eating. I took it home and cooked it more, but In addition, one of my nephews received the wrong order entirely and two other people at the table felt their meals were so-so at best. My mom's prime rib was fattier than they normally are and overcooked. It was no more than 1/2 thick (if that) and it was clear it was not cut straight from the rib cooked medium, like it should. It was likely a piece that was undercooked and they broiled it too long. They were also out of several things, which we were notified of when the server came back from putting our order in, including mac and cheese for one of the kids. Had to put in new orders. Keep in mind, we were there at the beginning of dinner service, not at the end. Unfortunately, not one person in our party of 8 was truly happy. I get they were busy, I get things happen, but it just wasn't a particularly good experience and being on Christmas, we had hoped for so much more. I will say the server was very friendly and professional. I don't blame him for most of our experience, most of it was the food, the cost and the portions (other than the salads a couple of people had, they were large). Considering the cost for 8 people and the experience we had, portions, etc.. I don't see any of us going back anytime soon. read more

We had dinner here on the 12/25, as it was one of the few spots open, but had made a reservation. Despite this, we still had to wait for about thirty minutes to be seated, as the restaurant seemed to have overbooked on reservations. Furthermore, our party of 11 ended up having to be split into three different tables. Food was not great-- The cheese of the burger I ordered was barely melted, if at all, and it seemed to have been quickly slapped together. It did not seem worth the price. However, this might be more attributed to how overwhelmed the restaurant was at the time we visited, rather than the skill or effort of the chefs. Service was slow (once again likely due to the restaurant being overwhelmed) but our waiter was positive, energetic, and friendly, providing good service to the best of their ability given the circumstances. read more

We used to love coming here, including getting friends and family to have a fun outing and meal. Since off late it's becoming bad to worse. The food was bland, it's just sad to see the dishes which were served were way smaller in portion size (when it can be shared by 2 persons as a whole meal), every dish we had lacked a lot of flavour and was just plain bland,.. just the overall "food experience" was terrible. Not sure if the chef has changed or what's the issue but last few times, Kona grill has disappointed and lost it's charm.. We definitely won't be returning here anymore.. read more

Our family came here for our Christmas dinner. We had a reservation for 5:45. We were seated by 6:15, our server came to our table by 6:30, and we didn't get drinks until almost 6.55. Additionally we didn't order food until 7::30 due to how busy our poor server was. The avocado egg roll appetizers were mushy, the chicken story fry was ice cold, was sent back and then I just decided it was disgusting with fatty dark meat chicken. For the wait, disgusting limited food options, sub par service, and $275 bill, I would never recommend this place for a holiday dinner. Hopefully Management takes a look at the operational side of things for the holidays next year ass this was a complete let down and total waste of money. read more

We came here on a whim after we changed our mind about going to another spot in the San Tan Mall area. I am very happy with our decision! I've always enjoyed the Kona vibes, as it isn't fancy or too casual and is good for all walks of life, including kiddos. We were seated right away, even though it was dinner/happy hour. Our server was very nice and got our drink orders and kept us up to date on when our food was coming out. I got a happy hour spicy roll and the shrimp tacos. Just a forewarning, the shrimp tacos are spicier than expected, but so very tasty. I also got a sake bomber, which I always enjoy when having sushi or seafood. It was my mom's birthday, so we got a complimentary dessert. She chose the seasonal chocolate cake and it was soooo good. I do feel their prices are sometimes a little high for what you are getting, but if you stick with the happy hour menu, you can get some great stuff for a great price. read more

Not so happy, happy hour. We wanted to try this place for their happy hour food since it looked like they had great deals and were the only restaurant open late. The restaurant is very cute and clean, but it did not seem like any staff wanted to be there. When we walked in the host was reading a book and didn't not greet us so we just stood there and then decided to sit at the bar. When we got to the bar, we were given menus but still not really greeted, it was a bit odd. Then we ordered the potstickers ($6) they tasted super bland and super tiny. It came with 3 of them so these potstickers were 2$ a piece and not at all worth it. Then we got the angry edamame (3$) these had such an odd flavor to them. It tasted as if they used dirty sink water to steam them and then put a weird seasoning on top. Then we ordered the avocado rolls ($9) these were crispy and had flavor. Would I get them again? probably not but they did the job. Then the last thing we ordered was 2 shrimp tacos they were (3$) each, so 6$ for two tacos. They were two prices of mini shrimps; they came with a spicy chipotle sauce; they were okay: still not much flavor. We also ordered a bbq chicken pizza, that was the worst thing I've ever had. It tasted like sandwich cheese was on top; and when it was delivered it was room temperature. ($6$) For the prices, portions; and quality I would not come again. It looks like a really cute concept but the flavor is not there. The drink happy hour looked amazing though, I will say. read more

Good food but seriously the worst online and phone ordering system in America!!!
