    Cavatelli, hubby liked it.

I really love love good Cacio e Pepe, so wanted to try juniper for a long time, finally decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary yesterday, and glad we picked juniper, ambience, food and service everything was great. Our server Jake was very attentive, welcoming and provided us a wonderful service. We ordered focaccia, Cacio e Pepe, Cavatelli. I loved my Cacio e Pepe, hubby liked his Cavatelli, Focaccia was well made and with whipped ricotta, it was perfect. I got Nonnas kiss and liked it, hubby got Don vitro and liked it. The only disappointment thing was gelato, they had sweat cream and honey, we ordered both, sweet cream was meh but was eatable, but honey, it was too sweet, like sweeter than honey itself, couldn't eat after one bite. Overall definitely try them, but absolutely don't recommend their Gelato though

Great service, delicious pastas, and good wines. The appetizer of these fried potato puff things were just delectable. A must order for the table. The pasta dish we ordered - spicy rigatoni with burrata - was also phenomenal. I'd skip the ribeye steak though, it was quite tough to chew but can't blame them - they're not a steakhouse after all.

We tried a few pasta dishes here and had a bit of a mixed experience. We ordered the rigatoni, cacio e pepe, and a ragu pasta. The cacio e pepe, which seems to be one of their most popular dishes, was unfortunately the most disappointing for me. It lacked flavor, and the pasta itself didn't feel particularly special or memorable. On the other hand, the rigatoni really stood out. It was creamy and comforting, and the addition of fried onions completely transformed the flavor profile in the best way -- such a unique and delicious touch. This dish was easily my favorite of the night. The ragu pasta was also very well done. The sauce was rich, unique, and full of flavor, and the pork ragu was especially delicious. One small note across all the pasta dishes: I wish the pasta had been cooked a bit less so it could be more al dente. For dessert, we had the vanilla ice cream, which tasted more like sweet cream or heavy cream rather than a distinct vanilla flavor. Overall, there were some standout dishes alongside a few misses, but definitely some creativity happening in the kitchen. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, wish the lighting was dimmer. The service was quick and helpful! I would be back to get the rigatoni vodka pasta again!

Juniper has been sitting on my Austin bucket list for months, so naturally I built it up in my head as a personality trait. Happy to report: vibes? VIBING. This place is aesthetic, chic, and cute in a way that makes you want to casually take pics "for the memories" (and also for Instagram). Service was quick, attentive, and on it--no awkward waiting around pretending you're fine when you're actually starving. Now... onto the food. We started with the potato puffs and yellowtail carpaccio. Let me be very clear: these appetizers were so tiny that we briefly considered abandoning our table and sprinting to the brisket spot across the street. HOWEVER--despite their microscopic size, they were delicious and we inhaled them like we hadn't eaten in days. Zero regrets, just mild portion shock. The rigatoni though?? Chef's kiss. Perfectly al dente, swimming in goodness, and that burrata... omg. I love. I would think about it again. I might dream about it. The pork ragù pasta was... okay. The pasta shape was honestly fascinating--like if pappardelle and fusilli had a giant baby. Very cool, very unique. Flavor-wise, it leaned a bit salty and had this oddly floral, fragrant spice situation happening. I noticed that note in a few dishes and I'm still undecided if I'm here for it. Jury's out. Last but absolutely not least: the broccolini. A full-on showstopper. A mountain of cheese, bread crumbs, and happiness. Order it. Don't question it. Overall: gorgeous space, great service, some hits, some "hmm interesting," but definitely worth checking off the Austin food list. Just maybe eat a snack beforehand... or accept that you might be eyeing nearby brisket menus mid-meal

It is clear that Juniper serves high quality food. Everything was cooked well; however, I was honestly underwhelmed by the experience. The crispy potato, although beautiful in presentation and cooked with precision, was seriously lacking flavor (in both the potato and the cheese it came with). The rigatoni alla vodka was perfectly cooked; nevertheless, I wasn't crazy about the dish. It was good, but not something I would order again. I'm super curious on how their cacio e pepe tastes though! Ambiance is moody & modern. Great for date night or a fancy night out with the girls.

What an interesting spot. Right off the main road, the entrance is a little hard to find because the door is large and the handle isn't a normal door handle. Right when you walk in it takes a moment for your eyes to adjust because it's very dark. The space is intimate and has an open area with the chefs behind the seating area so you can somewhat see them cooking meals. Service was great. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Recommended an app and a main course due to small serving size. The salmon I had was amazing. Great flavor! The tuna app was super tasty as well. Very nice place

First off the service was amazing! The kitchen is open so you can see where your food is being made. The restaurant was very clean and intimate. The alla vodka was absolutely delicious. I would pass on the puffy potatoes. It is a little pricey but I would definitely come back here for a special occasion!

This restaurant was pretty and the ambiance was nice. We started with the puffy potatoes and the hamachi carpaccio. The puffy potatoes were surprisingly good! The inside was filled with soft mashed potatoes and the sauce that came with it was light and creamy. The hamachi wasn't really worth it. It came with 2 small slices. I wouldn't recommend this. For pastas, I would recommend the rigatoni a la vodka. It has a little bit of spice to it and was cooked perfectly Al dente. If you don't like Al dente, you might not enjoy this dish but a few of my friends who don't particularly enjoy Al dente pasta really enjoyed this dish. Next, the pork ragu was very meaty and a bit salty. Still good but not my favorite.

We sat at the chef's counter to celebrate our anniversary. The service was terrible-- we waited almost an hour and 15 minutes from the time of ordering our entrees to when they hit the table. Staff barely checked in on us and certainly didn't banter or chat with us, it seemed more like we were there to watch their performance. We ordered the $115 (!!) 14-oz ribeye that, no joke, came with nothing else but a bundle of tied up parsley that looked like it came straight from the grocery store (picture attached). It was so bizarre, even the server who presented the dish called it an "obnoxious side of a bundle of parsley". The dish is advertised to be accompanied by a "salsa verde". In honor of our celebration, we were gifted 2 glasses of house made limoncello, which though I appreciate the gesture, did not feel thoughtful. We skipped dessert. When they dropped the check, we thought they waived our $50 corkage fee in consideration of the long wait for our food/general lack of service, but then we proceeded to watch the 2 servers closing us out discuss the fact that they forgot to add the corkage fee. Ultimately they waived it since they had already dropped the check. Anyways...we won't be back.

The ambiance and atmosphere of Juniper is perfect. Beautiful bar, (relatively) small and intimate seating area, and perfect lighting for a nice evening dinner! We came during their happy hour, and the service was solid. Our waiter continuously checked on us throughout the meal, without making us feel like we were being rushed. We ordered an assortment of things: House Focaccia, Little Gem Lettuce, Cacio E Pepe, Rigatoni, and the Double Cut Pork Chop. The portions were quite small, so strongly suggest ordering MORE than you think. The pork chop was quite a bit overcooked and dry, but other than that, everything tasted great!

4.5 stars I feel like this spot deserves five stars but it's tough because I don't feel like I got the full experience - so four for now. We sat at The Chef's counter which was super fun because we got to see the chefs prepare everything in live action. We ordered off the à la cart menu: Puffy Potato ($13) - 6 puffy potato sticks straight out of the fryer. They were a savory cheesy delight and were crispy fried on the outside with a creamy interior. The Dijon whipped dip served with it was a bit too strong for me. Rigatoni ($25) - so amazing. The best dish we tried. The noodles seemed freshly made and were delightfully chewy. The vodka tomato sauce was extremely rich and had a lot of depth, flavor wise. Hamachi ($18) - the hamachi was complemented with a delicate yuzu taste and crunchy pistachios, but it was so small, more like a nibble. The staff were very polite and attentive. In short I definitely want to come back and try the tasting menu because it looked amazing and then I will probably update my review to a five star. The interior is dark stylish and sophisticated - small valet parking lot adjacent to the restaurant.

This high-end Italian restaurant is pure beauty from the minute you step in the door until you take your last bite of food. An incredible blend of concrete, steel, and other elements give the architecture and decor an industrial feel with accents of furnishings, lighting, and accessories to bring softness and warmth to the building making for an enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere. Open kitchen in the center of the restaurant where you can watch everything that goes on whether seated in the dining area or at the chef counter. The elevated Italian fare reminds me of higher-end restaurants and eateries throughout Italy. Everything is carefully curated to bring the best flavors possible to each and every dish. My boyfriend took me to dinner on my birthday and they sent me home with a gift! A bag of their house-made pasta and a tin of their specially blended Italian seasoning. This is the perfect place for any type of celebration meal, or to gather with friends and family, or to just treat yourself. Service was impeccable. I wish I could give Juniper ten stars.

Two weeks ago my family came in last minute for a late dinner to celebrate my dads birthday. Myself and my parents were in town visiting and my sister had this on her list of restaurants she wanted to try. We were able to book quickly via open table. The service and food were phenomenal! They gave us a dessert for his birthday, as well as a pasta kit of the vodka pasta we ordered for dinner. It was extremely sweet of them to do that. Thank you so much!!

    How's the parking?

Hi, we have a parking lot next to us that is $12 for 3 hours. Valet is also $12. There is some free parking on the back street.

Is Juniper still doing take out?

Unfortunately we don't offer to-go/takeout at this time.

    Is your outside patio dog-friendly?

When you request the tasting menu, are you sharing each dish? Or are you receiving two individual dishes of the same type?

Great question, thanks! Our tasting menu is 10-courses priced at $110 per person. Each member of the party would receive their own menu of identical items. Current menus can be found on our website at JuniperAustin.com. We only ask full table…

How's the 10 course tasting menu? Will I still be hungry after?

I wasn't. And I am an eater... I actually had a snack before we went because I'm always anxious about small taster portions (🙈😬) and regretted it because by desert I was done!

The person greeting us, even shared some insights for some upcoming shows. They'd be having that seem great to attend. It's fun to have that sense of community being welcomed into the restaurant as soon as you get there! We split up, and I went to grab seats while the other member of my party stood in line. Seating wasn't difficult, and it was well ventilated, which was highly favorable and much appreciated in the heat with missing fans, running constantly, cute ambience, lighting with the small bulb lights, and even bug spray available they make sure that this dining experience was covered on all bases so that you would have a great one. The menus are easily accessible, with multiple copies, being passed down the line, and sitting in the stand as soon as you walk up. However, after hearing about the restaurant online, and taking some time to read the menu prior to arrival, I knew what was on my mind - carbonara. From arrival to ordering with maybe about a 30 to 40 minute wait however, it was worthwhile. The dishes are made to order, with fresh pasta being used, making it even better. We opted for two half orders to share, and that was definitely enough food because we ended up even taking leftovers. We also got an order of the garlic bread with tons of roasted garlic, parmesan, and green onions. While the carbonara was flavorful and what my mind was initially set on, the other pasta actually ended up stealing the show and was what we finished immediately the Leopold had a pesto base and a nice hint of spice even without the peppers (which were taken off in our order). Overall, the most difficult part of this meal was parking, and the fight was completely forgotten after my first taste. They have a small lot, however, if you circled the nearby neighborhood a couple times you're sure to find a place to put your car.

There's even a cute cat that roams around, which adds to the charm. The Carbonara Alexandra has always been my favorite. After giving our keys away we walked into what is a beautiful outside area at Juliet's. It's a nice mix of feeling like you're in downtown Austin but also not. We went inside to request two seats outside and this is unfortunately where everything fell apart. After being seated all the way at the very corner of the restaurant near the entrance, we didn't receive water for 15 minutes. In fact, we had to ask for water, as well as silverware, from a person who was cleaning a table- not a waiter. We didn't order until about 30 minutes after being seated. We noticed that others around us who were dressed nicer for the occasion were receiving service but we were not (jeans and a nice top as opposed to a dressy outfit). This is less of an accusation and more of an observation. It took another waiter noticing that we had not been served to come over and take our order, and that was 5 minutes after we had to flag down a busser to ask for water. The flip side of that whole first part is that the food was pretty good. We got complimentary table bread (after we asked for it since it never came before our main meal) that was soft and went well with the olive oil it came with. For our entrees we got the shrimp scampi and chicken parm. The shrimp scampi was fantastic and light with creamy and bold flavors in-between. The chicken parm was maybe the largest chicken cutlet we've seen given out at a restaurant. Not only was the cutlet massive but it was delicious as well with a nice, light breading and cheese on top. The spaghetti alongside it was a nice touch but this was a true chicken parm entree as it should be. We were offered a complimentary dessert as an apology for the miscues before we ate but turned it down (still good of them to offer). Leaving was easy as the valet was very attentive and quick to get our car. We wish we could say our time at Juliet's was perfect because the setting and food are very nice and a fun change of pace from the surrounding blocks. However, it's difficult to overlook the mistakes made from the jump. We noticed that another table next to us was also experiencing bad service and looked unhappy enough to leave in the middle of their meal/ We're always open to having good food again so hopefully the next time we're here things are different. Just an unfortunate bittersweet taste to what otherwise would have been a fantastic meal.

I'm not entirely sure how to describe this experience. The…read moreambiance was nice, with dozens of pictures on the wall and an old-style feel. We were seated after a three-minute break, and I ordered the Joe Lioni. The chicken was very dense, and it pulled apart with barely any force. It was the texture that all chicken strives to be. The flavor was a three-way gradient: Strong lemon; to soft, heavy chicken, to a slow-building spiciness that faded quickly and painlessly. I was finished with the first piece, and about to move on to the second, but my father and sister suggested that I eat some of the spaghetti. The taste and texture can only be described as the feeling on a hike, when you come into a clearing with the sun gently filtering through the trees, and you know and enjoy that there is more to come. Very subtle and light. The pasta and chicken paired more perfectly than anything I have ever eaten before. After I finished, I got the stracciatelli cannoli, that is, the chocolate chip cannoli. I was given the cannoli, as well as a surprise bonus: the Brown Butter gelato. It was amazing. It's the next step up from custard. The cannoli was crispy, brittle, and the ricotta was smooth and rich Scraping my plate on all of these. Like a dream. Prices were somewhat steep, but worth it. 10/10

Who would have thought an Italian red sauce joint would go straight to my top tier Austin recs?…read more Place is just legendary. Sammie's has been hyped up on social media for a long time and I gotta say it's still underrated! I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint. I haven't stopped raving about Sammie's since I've been there, and I cannot wait to return, recommend it, and take friends and family that visit.

Never heard of this place but got a coupon in the mail for a buy one lunch, get a free lunch…read more Decided to try it as I'm always looking for decent Italian food. As it turns out the coupon was only good during the week and it was Saturday. No big deal. I ordered a Meatball Sandwich, my friend an Italian Sandwich (after asking our excellent young waitress about it). She brought out two very tasty types of bread with olive oil for dipping. The sandwiches came with Garlic Fries. The Fries were delicious but unfortunately mine were lukewarm. I certainly could have asked for a fresh portion, but was hungry enough not to bother. That's the reason my rating wasn't 5 Star. Because the restaurant was pretty empty on this Saturday afternoon, I feel the Chef shouldn't have sent out fries that weren't piping hot. The Meatball Sandwich however was marvelous. Freshly made, tasty meatballs with sauce and cheese on their focaccia bread was a real treat. I took half home and ate the rest for dinner. All in all, I'd come back here again as the food was excellent as well as the service.

Such a good find in Austin!…read more If you're ever craving pasta, this is the place to stop by. We went on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy, but everyone who came in was still able to get a table. It feels very authentic. No Italian-American staples like Alfredo, meatballs, or garlic bread, which was actually refreshing since I'm so used to that style. You can either sit down first and take your time with the menu, or order in line before grabbing a table. Either way, they're very chill about it. Another cool thing: they're BYOB and will even cork it for you. Saw other guests bring their own glasses too, which was a nice touch. The pasta is clearly fresh. I'd recommend the macaroni with mushrooms and sausage. I got the tagliatelle with lemon shrimp cream sauce and loved it, though now I'm curious to try one of their non-cream-based sauces next time. Also spotted another table's lasagna go by and the portion was huge. Already excited to go back next time I'm in Austin. Definitely check this spot out!

That dish will fly you to the moon. Other more tomato-dependent items on the menu are pleasant enough. It is sad to see this enormously talented individual being as underutilized as he is. But nothing here is bad. If you think like a cook yourself, You will find other items of glory on the menu.
