    Ja Jang Myun (Spicy)

Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 6 Value: 7 Overall: 7 Word of advice, just come for the ja jang myun and you'll have a decent meal. The noodles are perfectly cooked, smooth with an excellent chew. I prefer the pork or beef sauce more than the others, but their spicy one is not a bad change up sometimes. However, be warned that there is a natural sweetness to the sauce due to the onions that turn some people off. With that said, I'm not a big fan of most of their other offerings like stews, battered and stir fry items. On our most recent visit, we had the shrimp poong gi and scorched rice soup with seafood. Neither were bad, but also nothing I really want again. Once again, just come for their signature noodles.

3.5 stars Came with some friends who on the quest to find best Jajangmyeon, they used to live in Korea so the expectations are high. We order Large Jajangmyeon, tangsuyuk to share, fried rice also combo jjampong/Jajangmyeon. Everything looks really good, but lacking in flavor. Jajangmyeon is the better option, smell really really good, but it taste kind of bland. We struggle to finish the jjampong. Tangsuyuk is not the best, but pretty good. Banchan is meh. They gave you small little sweet donut dessert for free.

I had been craving Korean Chinese food for the longest time and was so excited to finally come here when I learned that Flushing/Murray Hill had a Korean population and many restaurants to explore! I ordered the Jjajangmyeon and Jjamppong combo and really enjoyed them. I loved the chew in the noodles and how sauced up they were. On the soup side, I was a bit intimidated by the deep red color of the broth because I don't have the best spice tolerance. However, it was still manageable and delicious and I couldn't help but keep eating it. The portions were just right too in my opinion and I would absolutely order this again if I come back. My table got a half and half sweet and sour chicken and pork combo to share and I thought they were pretty good. In my opinion, the flavor of the fried chicken was more present than the pork one. I felt like the pork one seemed almost bland compared to the chicken. The sauce was stickier than I usually have but perhaps that is just how it is cooked. I think the crispiness of the pork could've shined through more if it had a little bit less sauce coated on it. Regardless, this meal definitely satisfied my cravings for Korean Chinese food and I am so excited to eat my way through the neighborhood. There seems to be many delicious authentic spots!

Came here for some Korean Chinese food - everything was decent but nothing really blew us away. The skillet seafood jjamppong was a little underwhelming and the jjajangmyeon was just okay, wish the sauce had more depth. Tang soo yuk (pork) was my favorite dish, and the ra jo yuk (beef) had a nice kick.

I wanted to love this place; I really did but alas it was not to be. I had high expectations given a red from a good foodie friend (maybe former after this ), and some good reviews on social media. I don't think that made my expectations too high coming in because my issues were more basic. There was just a lack of depth or umami missing from their dishes. First some background. Joong Koog Jip means Chinese House in Korean, which means they specialize in Chinese Korean dishes like Jia Jiang Myun (noodles with black bean sauce), Jjam Pong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and Tangsooyuk (sweet and sour fried meats). The good ones also have clams in a spicy black bean sauce (clams bokkeum). That should have been first tipoff that something was amiss because they did not have that dish but they had it with mussels. My wife loves the clam dish and so we ordered this mussels one. It was not good because the sauce was too watery; there was no bok Choy, and dish overall was too small. In got the combo and was not happy with either. Their Jjam Pong lacked umami as I said. It was spicy enough and had a good amount of noodles and seafood but lacking. The Jia Jiang Myun was similarly lacking something. Not sure if it was because there were too many veggies and not enough meat but it was thin tasting. On a positive note, Tangsoo chicken was ok but anything deep fried is going to be good. It would have been really good if they used a little salt in their batter but once you put the hot and sour sauce over it, it's still good. One final callout was the complimentary dessert, I'm we thought were gogoma mattang or candied sweet potatoes , but instead of sweet potatoes, they use rice cake balls. Once you get past the confusion, it is not bad. I still prefer the potato version but this was different and not bad. If you are in the mood for really good Jia Jiang Myun (not Jjam Pong) and find mind paying a little more than usual, go to Gom Tang but bring your own dangmooji.

We got there right when they opened. We were seated right away. It's a small little shop with a few (very few) parking spots in the front. My friend said parking in the area can be pretty tough. Inside it was relatively small. I ordered the Jjam Jja myun. I loved the seafood part. The broth was slightly spicy and flavorful with plenty of seafood. There was octopus, mussels, shrimp, and lots of noodles. My daughter was ok with her Don Katsu. The pork was crispy and the portion was generous. She didn't like the sauce for the Don Katsu or the salad but she enjoyed the meat and rice. There was also fried pork for the table. Koreans really know how to fry their meat. It was hot and crispy. Even when it got cold it was still crispy. I'm not an expert of Korean food but it had the comfort of home cooking. By the time we left there were people waiting for our table.

Great little spot in Murray Hill. In an area full of Korean restaurants, this one stands out for its comfort/homey food. Love how you can get half portions of their popular noodles or fried pork/chicken. I can never get tired of eating jajangmyeon. Service is super friendly and helpful. Always love coming here

It's located in an area with a lot of Korean food so parking may be difficult. Therefore, check to see if there's parking in front of the store first. Can park 1-2 cars but better than nothing. Spent so long for parking just to realize they had parking afterwards... interior is very home vibe, like those typical restaurants in korea. Servers speak Korean, English, and mandarin (maybe more that idk) but they're very nice. Offered us an apron since I was wearing white. The food portions are huge?? Lol we ordered way more than we can finish. The chicken tangsuyuk was in a large plate. Served separately with the sauce since they asked if we want it separately. Love that they asked, I don't like it when crunchy things can get soggy after soaked in sauce. Overall all the food we ordered were prettyyyy good. Jjajangmyeon is also noticeably different than other ones I've had. Their sauce got more meat and onion mixture than liquid. Flavor is pretty mild but not bad at all.

My friend took me here after a 90 minute massage. Needless to say, I was ravenous and ready to eat! We came here on Saturday early afternoon, it wasn't too busy and we got a table right away. My friend was in charge of ordering since she has been here several times. The food came out quick! We got Ggan Poong Shrimp, fried shrimp with sour garlic and red pepper sauce. The batter was a bit too thick for me and didn't have enough flavor. The chili like sauce was different and a bit spicy for me. For entrée, we split the large size Jjam Jja Myeon, spicy seafood noodle soup and noodles in black bean sauce. The large bowl is split in the middle separating the two kind of noodles. I have never seen it serve this way. What a great idea! I like the texture of the noodles and black bean sauce was savory and delicious. The seafood noodle soup was good but I had better. After we paid, we were given complimentary donut like dessert but it's hard and crunchy. It was nice finish to the meal. Good attentive service.

Tried this place with a few friends. Their interior is very simple, your classic korean/chinese restaurant. The service was fast and all of the staff was very nice. They do have the dishes were you can pick half jjangmyeon and half of the seafood noodle soup but we all just went for the jjangmyeon. I got the small and my friends got the large size but these portions were HUGE. Even my small size, I could not finish it all and had to bring some home. And the best part is I'm pretty sure mine was only $10. This was such a classic and solid jjangmyeon for just $10. We also got a sweet and spicy pork which was good as well. Loved the crispiness of the pork and the flavors of the sauce. Overall this is a great place for a comforting and affordable meal. Will be back again!

It was go to place when I crave Jjajangmeon. Yesterday I eat there and had Kimchi Fried rice to go. Took it to work today for lunch and noted piece of steel wool in my Kimchi fried rice. Not going there anymore.

    Alvin Z.

Tried both their signature menu and thought they were pretty good. I do feel that their flavors are a bit bland but their spicy jajangmyeon is actually pretty spicy. The service was pretty good and not a lot of people for lunch but a lot more people for dinner. Overall, pretty good eat for the price.

Spicy Jajangmyeon. Large is pretty big for 2-3 people. Flavor was great and I really like the noodles here.

Would you like to be transported back in time to ancient china?…read more How about just testing your spice tolerance to see if you can hang with the best? Well, if you want all of that, PLUS hot pot, look no further - this is the place to be! There is a reason this is one of the highest recommend spots to visit when you're in Flushing. First off, entrance? SO UNASSUMING. It's like, the tiniest door, with no real obvious signage. Once you go through, you basically feel like you're in one of the ancient alleys of China - decor is 1000% great. We had a larger party of 7, and they were luckily able to accommodate us since we lined up a few minutes before opening on a Friday. We actually got IMO the best seats in the house - towards the back, elevated up on some steps, a mini pavilion essentially. But enough about the decor.. how was the food? Well.. GREAT! And honestly, for NYC prices, not too expensive (but a bit pricy for flushing I guess). The quality was top notch (highly recommend trying the mala quail eggs) and the spice of the broth was GREAT! We went with medium since our server (amazing btw, thank you Sean / Shawn / Shaun??) said that he can't even go near hot, it burns his eyes. Medium was just perfect - felt great eating it with some sweats, regretted it the day after, which means I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Meats were good quality, veggies were yummy. I wish the shrimp paste had more in terms of quantity, we barely had seven bites for each of us, but it was really good. Also, pro tip, probably don't order Napa Cabbage, a lot of their other dishes will sit on top of a whole leaf, so you'll probably get enough from that unless you want to consume half a head. Sauce bar is $2 a person - which might be shocking for some to know they charge it, but it's pretty much the norm at a higher end hot pot place in big cities. At least they don't charge $6-$8 like some places and only throw in a few apps/desserts to try to justify it. Overall, really loved this place, and would definitely go back.

They gave us free dessert jellies which is also a classic Sichuan dessert; they also had a deal where you get free drinks if you order a certain amount of food, so we got two free drinks. I would have given a five star if not for the super long wait. Granted we did go for Christmas Day dinner. We saw them having to turn away lots of customers. They are super popular. Main issue is there isn't a number system, so getting a table felt a bit random; we considered ourselves lucky. Our servers were very friendly and nice. They told us it would be a bit of a wait, but this was the longest I've ever waited for food: 45 min before the first dish was served. We ordered 5 dishes with rice (forgot to take pictures of two of them). I wasn't told one of the dishes I ordered wasn't available until 30 min after I placed my order. But when the food did come, they all can't together so we didn't have to keep waiting. The servers were also attentive after despite how busy and clearly overwhelmed they were, which was really nice. In conclusion, great food with good portions for spice lovers. Very nice servers and try not to go on Christmas Day since it can get really busy.

We got the beef brisket curry with ho fun noodles and it tasted exactly like the HK curry noodle dishes I had growing up. The pork w salted fish hotpot rice had a lot of flavor without being overly salty, and it had crispy rice at the bottom of the pot. This was a very nostalgic meal for me. Service: 5/5 The staff was very nice and extremely efficient. They were fast without rushing. This place is always packed and they always serve customers quickly to keep it moving. Ambiance: 4/5 Yummy Noodle House is plain and simple. It is a very casual meal and pretty packed most of the time. It feels very local and produces authentic comfort food.
