Pasta: Pasta was cooked Al Dente and did not have enough sauce so was too dry. Hibiscus Lemonade tasted like regular store bought lemonade no hibiscus flavor. Portions were good but overpriced. LaCo is a hidden gem in Tucson. Tucked away in a courtyard downtown and sandwiched between Tallboys bar and Art House Centro it is an absolute treat. We visited mid week in the evening and they had live music, sat us in a beautiful little courtyard next to a pond with Coi fish and turtles and surrounded by little shops. So from an atmosphere perspective it was an A+ They were pretty busy when we stopped, the service was good (not great) as we did sit for a bit before our drink order was taken and between check ins but nothing too crazy. The food was FANTASTIC! I had the BBQ meatloaf and my companion had the Elote pasta. We both easily cleaned our plates. It was enough food to fill you up without being so much that we needed to take home leftovers. Prices were reasonable for the food as well. Very happy to have discovered LaCo! read more

Went on a busy Friday night & waited about 25 minutes for a table with friends but the staff was friendly! Got to enjoy drinks while we waited which helped! Got the taco salad and it was delicious! What a great hidden gem in the center of Tucson! This was such a refreshing respite. The Margaritas are great, the bar cat is a hoot and the bartender, with a familiar soul, was super friendly. The food was delicious and thoughtfully crafted but not pretentious. The hot sauce was so good I had to order a few bottles for the road. The food, service, and ambiance were all five plus star. I have never in my life written a review about anything, no less a restaurant, but I was moved to do so after my experience last night. As a vegetarian, I immediately went to the menu to see options, and the options were plentiful, although my meat eating fellow guests were equally inspired by the many options they had on the menu. The menu was intriguingly creative, yet covered certain typical cravings that called out to me. When the food itself came, it was even better than the expectations the menu had inspired. Collectively, our table of four tasted more than a dozen items, aided by the ability to have small plates (which were plentiful in and of themselves as small plates) and literally every single item was excellent and highly enjoyable to each of us, (other than the meat items which were enjoyed by my friends, but I could only vicariously enjoy) The service and attention by staff and management was impeccable, personable, and genuinely hospitable. Helpfulness in making choices, prompt but unrushed delivery of drinks and food was comforting and right on, and the team approach among staff was exceptional, as each person working there seemed to truly care about our experience, regardless of whether it was specifically their table or not. Management checked in on us, showing care for our impression, pride for the special experience/destination they had created for public consumption, and even appreciation for efforts and artistry shown by other competitors in the the local community. He was so excellent, but even more so humble, that I will not mention his name herein, except to say that he was truly Rad. The ambiance was especially special, creating a deja Vu like experience for my wife and I, which we were not sure was from an experience in Puerto Rico or Morocco. The lovely outdoor dining was enhanced by the live eclectic music being performed on a well positioned stage that created perfect acoustical mix for table conversation and music listening. We were so full from the ample portions, that unfortunately we were unable to sample the excitingly teasing dessert options, but we will leave room the next time we come. read more

I really enjoyed La Cocina, the courtyard was a gem! So there were a lot of complaints about slow service in previous posts. I can't comment on that because we showed up at 9:10 pm and took about 10 minutes to order. Keep in mind they close @ 10pm. What I can tell you is that our order was out in about 12 minutes and had great service. We were not rushed and our waiter was attentive. Ordered the chicken street tacos and taco salad. The tacos were good; however, the chicken was a little dry. You really couldn't taste it with all of the other ingredients but when sampled solo it was meh. They had a person singing and playing acoustic guitar on the mini stage. Sat next to the pond and really enjoyed my dinner experience. My dad worked here in the early 2000s and I haven't been back in probably 15 years, I have the nostalgic memories of outdoor lighting, the blooming boganvillas and the sound of water running and once they reopened I headed over from the chips and salsa, cocktails and taco platter everything was amazing. We found La Cocina in a restaurant brochure and checked it out on YELP, which has never let us down. There was a 20 minute wait in the bar for a table in the dining area. They only take reservations for 6 or more. The prickly pear marguerita and the Kentucky Cherry Lemonade we're both good drinks. They also have a limited beer and wine menu. The food menu included Mexican and Mexican flared dishes which all sounded tempting. The 4 of us chose the Chimichanga, the Lemon Chicken Penna( and my husband thinks he doesn't like Mexican food) and the taco salad, which was an upscale version with wonderfully roasted vegetables, black beans, guacamole and creme in a lightly fried taco shell. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinners. The mean server got confrontational and turned my questions around when I asked why we were not given the option to chose the gratuity. Crisp and even coating, Mains - Barbacao chimi A chimi should be flaky yet crisp, with texture in the shell; and a full coarse of ingredients inside. Mine was hard shell that snapped like a crisp under fork and knife, with a significant air gap inside, and ingredients burned - the heel of it (photo attached) was a -lump- of charcoal, it was so poorly made. The fellow across from me , eating his burrito at the same time, said "wait - did they put -any- meat in this? ... maybe it's all at one end." Epic, epic failure. I love Jojo's and wanted to share it with company visiting from out of town. Unfortunately, this last experience didn't quite live up to my previous visit. We had a long wait before anyone came to take our drink orders, and we ended up placing our meal orders at the same time due to the delay. The food was good, but the service continued to lag throughout the evening. We weren't offered any drink refills, and it took an excessively long time to receive our check, with no clear instructions on whether to pay at the table or at the counter. This lack of attentiveness made the meal feel less special than I had hoped. At the end of the meal, when I saw they took it upon themselves to add a 20% gratuity to my check it really felt like no one cared because they were already getting a tip. The hostess was amazing and we appreciated everything she did so this is 3 stars instead of 2. :) Thanks for all your help! read more

We were so excited to come to this restaurant again. Unfortunately our experience was lacking on so many points. There were 2 parties ahead of us and the hostess seated both and then said to us "I need to get the iPad". She had some "catching up" to do so it would be 5 to 10 minutes before she could seat us. We milled around in the shops and bought a couple of things and were seated. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Before they arrived, the waitress was back asking for our order so we gave it and I also asked for a chair or purse stand since there was no room on the table and the chairs have rounded backs so no where to hang a purse. Drinks and appetizers came. No chair or purse stand.... I finally grabbed a chair from a table near by. Our entrees came. We stacked the appetizer plates and empty drink glasses but the runner didn't take them.. no server to see if we wanted more drinks. My daughter wanted a plain grilled cheese and we asked for the grilled onions and squash on the side. It came with the grilled onions and squash in the grilled cheese so she ate the tots. My husband ordered his tacos with flour tortillas... they came with corn. Our table was crowded and we never saw our server again. We asked someone else for boxes and our check. We ate here for our first night of vacation and it was a great start! The patio is lovely and has terrific ambiance. I wish we'd come when the little shops were open as they looked very cool. The service was great and the food was delish! The sampler appetizer was our favorite part of the meal - I kinda wish I'd just had that for the entree, though everything was good. My only bother was that we were seated in the back patio area, which really was different in terms of comfort and vibe. This is now my favorite place in town to get a vegan brunch. The ambiance is amazing with an outside courtyard, pond, lots of plants, fans, and local shops surrounding the courtyard. I ordered the Vegan breakfast scramble and the vegan tater tot dish both were very well priced and served very elegantly . Each aspect of the dish was incredible from the home made pickled onions to the fig jam they served with the sour dough bread. The ambience and service at this patio based restaurant were excellent. The brunch food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. My wife had the vegetarian bahn mi with overcooked tofu. The Vietnamese condiments on the sandwich and salad were good. I had what was described as a mushroom chorizo sandwich. The mushrooms were just finely sliced and sauteed with minced carrot with very little seasoning and served on a dried out baguette with what tasted like a pesto spread. There was very little amount of mushrooms or flavor. We would not go back. read more

Met a friend here for lunch, and for whatever reason, they were absolutely slammed. But that didn't slow anyone down! We ordered quickly frm our friendly server, and got our yummy food without much of a wait. I had Huevos Rancheros and my friend had the TB Tiny Tots. I sampled his tots and they were delicious. I mean--they were tots, right? They came smothered in bacon, green chiles, cheese, chipotle crema, and pesto crema. What's not to love? My huevos were delicious. The verde and rojo sauces were so good. And the pickled onions mixed with the cotija, pico, and crema made for the most delightful explosion of flavors. So good. And I am usually disappointed when I order this dish. Sadly, I did not capture our food with photos as we chowed down as soon as we got it. Too good to wait. read more

LaCo Tucson, formerly La Cocina Restaurant & Cantina, has reopened after closing down for many months during the pandemic. It is now owned by the same people as Tall Boys, which has relocated here as well, in the space collectively known as Old Town Artisans. The best thing about it is the setting - it has a beautiful outdoor courtyard surrounding a small pond, shaded by trees. It truly is one of the most beautiful patios in Tucson, especially at night when it is lit with twinkle lights and they often have live music. The courtyard is bordered by little artisan shops, LaCo's cantina/bar, and the aforementioned Tall Boys. The food is Sonoran inspired with some crossover items from the Tall Boys menu (burgers, tots, other bar food). Having loved the former incarnation's menu, I do find the current menu pared down with less interesting items and variety. And since it shares the courtyard with TallBoys, it seems a shame to miss out on some menu variety by offering TallBoys items - if I wanted bar food I'd just order from TallBoys! Same courtyard, same owners. The food they do offer on the menu is good. The smoked meatloaf stands out as the best item I've had there. The blackened salmon was also good but very spicy (I liked it, but it was too spicy for my friend). She enjoyed her Mediterranean salad, but it didn't stand out. The Sonoran items they offer are the standard: nachos, quesadillas, tacos, and burritos. They do offer a few more vegetarian options than is typical - cauliflower wings, polenta fries, shredded jackfruit in salads, Thai quinoa bowl, and elote pasta. I find the food quality to be good and solid, but I struggle to find something interesting on the menu that I'm excited to try. But that magical patio...!!! It is fun to come downtown and enjoy this beautiful courtyard patio. I give it 5+ stars for ambiance, 4 stars for food and service. read more

I've visited La Co in the past just once for a birthday event and it was a really nice area for a fairly large group. Rain ended up pouring, but the only bad part was moving from one covered area to another to pay. I ventured back to La Co due to some shops having events and decided to eat dinner. We ordered a taco salad, burger, Miller and soda. The service was spot on, I mean the waiter was so quick and helpful with everything! The pricing is really why I drop it a star and only because I paid $13 for a taco salad that had basically two quarter size chunks of chicken and about 4ish dime size pieces. The bowl wasn't even that full of salad, it was mostly cheese and layered with black beans to make it look semi-full. I don't think I would be back just due to the price of the food. The food tastes great, but to me is completely not worth the price associated. I'll be back to visit the nice shops but definitely not for the food. read more

The rebrand and new menu is working for Jojo's. I recently went for a friend's birthday and had a lovely time. The servers were attentive and did well. The brussel sprouts were delicious! I got the burger which was ok, the patty was cooked to well done when I asked for medium well and could've been better seasoned. The toppings and fries were great though!
