I am trying to be less hyperbolic but, I often fail. My notes for this place read: "Best dive bar maybe...ever?" Everything you want from a drive bar, they got it: Charismatic bartenders (some friendly, some crusty)? Yep. Back-butt-and-elbow-bumping levels of crowds? Yep. Barely anything on tap* except some chugger domestics? Yep. Long wooden shuffle board table? Yep. Every diverse crowd in terms of: age, income level, ethnicity, race, etc? Yep. Super-friendly-single-serving-friend energy? Yep. If you're looking to get away from college kids, this is also probably a good bet! The bottle/can situation is definitely better, with some local beers and some IPA's.

Super cool dive bar the bathroom is called the black hole and is not as bad as the bathroom at the hub in Tampa. Great bartender, stiff pours and a bunch of characters at the bar to talk to which is great. I would highly recommend if you're in Tucson.

This is easily the best dive bar in Tucson. As you walk in there is someone checking IDs. But son't be alarmed the crowd consistents of mainly adults out of school, not a ton of college kids. Just inside the door is a great jukebox to the right and a pool table to the left. The large U shaped bar takes up most of the space with lots of barstools. There is a shuffle board table to the far right side of the bar as well. This is a dive bar at its finest. If mixed drinks or cocktails are your thing go for simple 2 ingredient drinks like gin and tonic or rum and coke. I say this from experience, on my last trip in I had an old fashioned, which was okay, and a gin and tonic which was perfect. Know your venue and order accordingly. The highlight of this establishment has to be happy minute. During this Happy Minute tokens sold at 11p for $1 (CASH). This token gets you a 2nd of the same drink for just $1. So although they do take card payments for normal orders remember to always bring a few bucks to enjoy happy minute with your friends.

Nice, neighborhood bar with free parking! It's a small place with mostly bar seating. We were able to be seated right away on a Friday night. The waitresses were very friendly. We were served quickly and prices weren't bad at all. They even have Jell-O shots. It was a mixed crowd, with respect to race and age. I'd definitely go back and feel comfortable bringing anyone.

What can you say, dive bar that doesn't feel to dicey. The buffet has been in tucson for decades and you see all kinds of people/characters. Placed nicely in midtown tucson and looks like a scene out of a movie. Drink specials are great and they have all kinds of different spirits and mixed drinks. Beers on tap are the normal imports and locals. They have pitchers available at a great price. Walking distance to the light rail is a plus. Great place to pre-game for any occasion. Bartenders are fast and get you your drink right away! Ordered a blue moon and it came out nice and cold and the pour was nice. They open early at 6 am and have different happy hours. I hear they sometimes have specials at a real low price. If you've never been it's a definite must go if your a local or a tourist. You won't be unhappy with drinks and people watching.

Tried it with friends and it is your typical dive bar but the staff was good & the other patrons were nice which helped me feel comfortable there. They had lots of TVs to keep up with sports around the bar. Women's restroom was interesting to checkout all the writing on the walls that people have left behind.

This is THE DIVIEST dive bar around and it's epic. Dark, dingy, random crowd, and killer service. What more could you want?

It feels like there is ALWAYS something going on here. On my first visit, my girlfriend took me on a date here to catch a burlesque show. It was absolutely packed and everyone had a great time! And every Friday and Saturday night, there is some reiteration of a goth dance night ($5 cover). I also appreciate the slightly older crowd full of my fellow thirtysomethings, and the upstairs patio cannot be missed when the weather is nice. The cocktail menu isn't anything especially fancy, but there's still something for everyone to enjoy. My favorite is always the Prickly Heat--think a prickly pear margarita that's absolutely loaded with fresh jalapenos. It's not for the weak! There's also food, and while it's not mind-blowing or anything you'll appreciate that you can have a nice snack at midnight on a weekend. Surly Wench is a local cultural institution, and we're lucky to have it.

And the awesome owner basically had that intruder leaving with their member between his legs (acknowledging tr*ns validity at the same time. What tact!). Let's keep the women, and security man restroom clean! The awesome surly patriots at the wench bar made sure to take it to the street and communicate a policy of forgiveness and brutal clarity in making sure certain members of our community cannot go bathroom real quick without a valid state ID or proper members. No one should be allowed to draw on the stall after they are standing outside, I don't care what is wrong with you! God bless these surly patriots for how they protect their American bart patrons. Would recommend the liquor! They have the main ones except Jose Cuervo. Too much graffiti in the bathroom so 4.5 stars. #AlternativeBarAgainstPC

This place is located in an artsy / entertainment district close to downtown. When we went, there was road construction nearby that made getting here more challenging. Once we located it, the next challenge was parking. We visited around noon on a Saturday. There are no large parking lots, so you have to find something on-street. We ventured a couple of blocks off the main street and found something. However, the signage wasn't really clear on whether you had to pay on weekends or not. We accessed the parking app via a QR code, but it told us that our space 'was not available', despite the fact that we were in the space. A guy leaving the space next to us confirmed that parking *was* free on weekends, so we trusted that and walked to the restaurant. In retrospect, I think the app meant that we did not need to pay, but 'not available' seems a bit vague for that... The restaurant is located on a strip of old storefronts that now house restaurants, record shops, etc. There was a lot of pedestrian traffic out front, including a homeless guy asking for change. The atmosphere was sort of a loud, slightly cramped dive bar. I don't mean that in a bad way, but that was the vibe. The music was loud - none of it was familiar but I didn't hate it. I guess my point is that if you are looking for a quiet spot for lunch, this is probably not it. We initially were offered a table on their covered patio. We left one person there while sorting out parking, but when we came back they had a booth inside so we grabbed that instead. The patio seemed shaded and semi-comfortable, other than a loud barking dog. We browsed the menus and ordered our food. We all got half-and-half combos (soup/salad or sandwich/soup). The only issue was that the soups came in a bread bowl. I was able to finish my soup, but felt bad about not eating more of the bowl. If I'd had the option, I would have gotten a plastic bowl. The salad was pretty big, despite being only half. I finished most of it. We ended up having sufficient leftovers from others such that we took them back to our hotel (a relatively short drive) and finished them the next evening. All the food was tasty. This wasn't what I was expecting, but I'd consider eating here again given the right circumstances / group.

A little bit of both worlds there I recommend eating the bread bowl first because it's more filling that you think and you can take the sandwich home They have a wide range of options for everyone And even offer a picky kid friendly sandwiches like PB & J, might sound boring or normal but that was the best PB & J I've ever had The staff is very nice and helpful They run the bar also and will bounce between the bar and your table So if the bar is busy I'm sure it could take a bit for you to order at your table Great food Great environment And friendly people Highly recommended!

It's a fun and also elegant atmosphere with the zebra theme clearly exemplified across the space. I would have to say this is one of the coziest bars I've been to, the furniture and seating is really supportive of a long-term visit. There are other levels, lower and an upper level besides the main space, but be aware that if there are parties, they can typically take up different areas. Our bartender, Sarah was fantastic! The way that she handled all of the guests and the busy field was incredible, so calm and collected, and furthermore making some really incredible drinks. Heads up that the online drink menu is not the current drink menu, I couldn't remember all the names of our drinks and put those in the photo captions, so when I checked on the website, the menu was showing something different other than what I saw at the bar. Out of several places I've been to, I'd say the mixture of flavors and details in the drinks are quite unique. I'll be back for more one day
