Great staff, particularly the wonderful bartender, but absolutely terrible experience with regulars that accused us as customers for stealing with no evidence. This regular customer was extremely aggressive and rude, accompanied by others that were aggressive and unseemly. They accused my party of unproven claims and were completely unprofessional. Will not return because of this incident. Avoid if you don't want rude behavior shoved in your face. read more

This is an excellent dive bar with beautiful, likeable bartenders; and a friendly group of customers. It opens at 10 AM (as of May 2020), which is an hour earlier than most bars; closing time is 2 AM (or will be after the state of Arizona removes the curfew). The drinks are inexpensive; e.g., a vodka tonic costs $4.50 ($3.50 during happy hour, which is [at least] 10 AM to Noon Mon-Fri). (May 2020 prices) The bar was repainted during the recent (AZ state government ordered) closure due to the virus. It has table tennis in the back, and the bar provides ping-pong balls and paddles. (The paddles are pimpled rubber or sandpaper; if you want thick rubber, you must bring your own paddle.) I highly recommend this bar. read more

Although The Mint stays true to it's history in Tucson as a classic dive bar, you can see the owners are always striving to add to it's atmosphere. The bar now offers two cozy stages for live music, one of them outside on a smoke friendly patio. (The stages are more designed for acoustic acts, such as bluegrass, folk, or Americana. However, they have had pop and alternative bands play there on occasion.) My only critic for The Mint is that they don't have food.. Not the end of the world, and they even have a popcorn machine near the bar, but it I do wish a food truck would come through on their busier days, (or the days with music.) read more

Dive bar full of characters at night. .. lots of stories here. I gone here for music several times. It is very tiny and the locals are very local ..... not the sedate stuffy kind up the mountain. I have not gone to the night when the ladies dance. So I can't really comment on that. Ample parking in the front. Relatively clean. Nice looking bar with bar maids when I have been there. RUNNER-UP: Best Dive in Tucson The Mint competes with the Buffet as the best dive in Tucson. Cheap, strong drinks will get you where you're going, and fast. It's a diverse crowd with a low-key atmosphere, best for slumping in with a friend for long, private conversation (as long as it isn't fucking karaoke night, which cost this place a star.) There is also plenty of room for groups on an off night. There's no food service, but almost every time I'm in there's a roaming tamale-bearer if you need a snack. The only real drawback (aside from the fucking karaoke) is that it's in a daytime commercial area that isn't inconvenient, but kind of nowhere--so make sure you've got a ride. read more

The Mint excels as a classic Tucson dive bar. It's not far from the center of town and the university, and it's a great place to grab cheap drinks while shooting pool. When I was a student at the UA, this was definitely on my list of semi-favorites, along with The Shelter (just down the street). I really hope these guys sue the trendy new Scottsdale lounge of the same name to protect their mark. They could at least write a cease and desist letter, right? read more

This place is super easy to miss, but Super hard to forget once you have gone One of the few bars in the Universe that serve super popcorn instead of peanuts. Supposedly it is the Coconut butter that makes it some of the best Popcorn i have ever had, and let me tell you i air pop kernels that i buy from specialty stores, this ain't your Orvill RedenBauker(sp?) crap. They have cash prize Pool Tourneys and Poker on Thursdays and Saturday, that sometimes have cash prizes. What a weird surprise. Small dive bar, definitely seems to be local neighborhood folks. Couple of pool tables in crowded quarters, but probably makes for introductions "oops, excuse me, my name is Steel. You have purty eyes..." I used a coupon for a free drink I've carried in my wallet since 1988. I think it was older than the bar maids. The one turned to the other and showed the coupon with reverence. Ah dive bars... really there are none that I dislike. But in this town, there are a few I would frequent over the Mint. To each their own. As for the establishment itself... well, it's a dive bar. The staff are friendly and can pour a good drink. The beer selection is standard for dive bars. The crowd is a mix of folks from all walks of life. Nothing too outrageous (it's not the Buffet!) but still no lack in variety. Two pool tables keep you occupied when sitting at the bar has taken it's toll. For smokers, there's a caged-in area behind the bar. It's not a smoker's paradise, but at least you can bring your beverage out with you. There's live music, but I can't say what kind of schedule that may or may not follow. Bottom line, for anyone who appreciates what a dive bar has to offer, this place will not disappoint. We went in search of Monday night karaoke, and Mint Cocktails seemed to fit the bill. However the image of jaded dowagers sipping mojitos and vodka stingers in a decrepit, velvet walled lounge quickly evaporated upon our arrival... The crowd was small, 30-something working class regulars. The repertoire of choice was an eclectic mix of death metal, rockabilly, and rat pack. Patrons found matching pitch a real challenge, so the renditions were particularly spicy. The mint-colored vintage 60s interior features cabaret seating, pool tables, a supercrane machine, video games, and hoola hoops hanging on the walls. In the back was a cigarette vending machine (GASP!) and an outdoor patio. The service was friendly yet spacey... the bartender informed us that the featured holiday cocktail was unavailable since they had run out of egg nog. However during our second round, he found the egg nog, and gave me the drink gratis. Despite the complimentary touch, the booze seemed rather watered down. read more

The Mint is quite possibly my new favorite dive bar. Here's the story... So after passing this pub for years on end, a few friends and myself curiously dropped in to check out Tucson's infamous Mint. Nice relaxed decor and vibe, not too bright - not too dark, larger inside than appeared from outside, a couple pool tables, nice sized bar, additional seating areas, digital jukebox and best of all... lots of cheap drinks! Jackie, our bartender that evening, has to be one of the best bartenders in town - and quite beautiful I might add. But it takes more than good looks to produce great service. Jackie immediately greeted when we first sat down and served us each a bowl of freshly made, old-fashioned buttered popcorn. Yummm. Then she took our drink order and moments later we were all sipping on our refreshing beverages. All night she was both responsive and knew how to multi-task effectivly... a concept that is foreign to many in the service industry. I'll continue. Jackie engaged with every person or group at the bar throughout the night and we NEVER had to ask or wait around for her to bring us our next drink. Nothing can ruin a good evening quicker than not being able to get consistant or effecient service. This was excepional service, for a dive or ! Some of my friends smoke, so we went out back to their large covered smoking paito. And guess what boys and girls, you're actually allowed to bring your drink outside with you like growups! They advertised having different things throughout the week like ladies night, pool tournaments, poker night, beer pong, kareoke, drink specials, etc, plus live music and an open mic night. So you won't have the same people and things going on every night. So there you have it. My first Yelp review and my first visit to the Mint. We all had a great time. I really like this place. I have truly never felt more uncomfortable in Tucson. If you are not an older white man, you aren't welcome here. The bartender made a suggestive remark when I first entered (I'm a young-looking female), two patrons continually tried to talk to and physically touch the women in my group, a man complained when someone stopped him from stalking a woman into a literal corner, and the non-white men in our group were harassed by the bartender. The woman running karaoke was nice, but the entire atmosphere was predatory. Genuinely wouldn't go back even if someone offered me money to do so. read more

To be fair, this is a review of the Wild Boys show (10/8/16) and not of The Mint in general. (The Mint is a great midtown dive with lots of locals and crabby bartenders, solid 2 star Tucson establishment from the Wild West days, don't expect anything fancy.) HOWEVER the Wild Boys show is a totally different experience. As in, the single best, greatest, most fun experience of my entire life. I want to go back to that night and have it never end. There's something remarkably special about gorgeous men (Hi Josh! I think his name was Josh...) literally bending over backwards for you... and not just gorgeous but the most polite, friendly, kind, charming, courteous, sweet and yes, SUPER HOT men just dancing, twisting, grinding their groove thangs. One of the best things about the experience is that EVERYONE was having fun, the dancers were very equal-opportunity.... no one in the crowd was shamed or turned away. The entire audience got some love. It was so awesome and really different than anything else. Also it feels amazing. LADIES! SERIOUSLY! If you're tired of going out and dealing with meatheads, Chads and stalkers, treat yourself to the Wild Boys show. Super sexy confident men who want to please you with no strings attached. Amazing natural high. Will leave you giddy. (It didn't even matter that the bartender was perhaps the worst ever. I literally didn't even care about drinking.) Bring lots of ones. You'll feel like you are walking into a David Lynch film, and I do not mean this in a negative way. The new owners have shined up the Mint so well that nary a speck of dust dwells among the bottles. The burlesque stage, heavy with brocade drapery, is a spangly dancer's dream. We popped in on a night when violin virtuoso Heather Hardy was rocking the stage. Enthusiastic dancers shook their best Axl Rose moves and the bar crowd, heavy on tie dye and shoulder pads, are a friendly group. We'll be back for burlesque. read more

Classic, but great, dive bar. Nothing fancy about this place at all. Excellent, friendly bartenders. One even did tricks for us. Fun drink specials (I had the Mexican flag- shot of tequila, shot of lime?, and shot of tomato juice- sounds weird but I liked it) Pool tables and poker going on. Plenty of parking and seating. Not fancy BUT FUN! I would come back. Cool green color inside- hence the name "The Mint". There is one of those Truly Nolan old-time cars you see all around Tucson out front. Instead, the bartender got mad at us and implied we were lying. She backed off only when we showed her our account summary and finally gave us the drink we already paid for. We walked in, and the bartender was nowhere in sight. The music was ridiculously loud to where I had to shout my drink order three times, and the bartender looked and acted like she couldn't care less about serving us. Couldn't hear my fiance talking next to me. And two different (drunk) regulars kept offering advice and tips on our pool game - I understand they were trying to be friendly and helpful, but it felt like we couldn't just play without these guys butting in. It made me uncomfortable to the point where we left. There are better dive bars in Tucson. read more

My boyfriend and I have been going to The Mint since i moved here almost a year ago. He has been going to The Mint for over 20 years. The atmosphere is awesome and the employees are the best. We will continue to frequent this establishment til the day it closes. Hopefully it never will. read more

I'm going to start out by saying that I like the comedy show they do on Wednesday and I often bring a lot of people with me when I come to this place. I was there last Wednesday and I was overcharged. Not a big deal for me - I caught it on my bank statement and I called the mint and was immediately on the phone with the person who overcharged me. I just asked to talk to the owner or manager or someone that can help me and she kept insisting that if I don't have a receipt they won't do anything. I work in a restaurant/bar and I know that's incorrect. If I can provide the date, my card number and information from my card statement then you should be able to reference it with your copy of the receipt. Oh my $5.5 purchase she claimed a $10 tip when & when I politely asked her for her name she refused and asked me my name. Well, I'm Brandon. I might still go to the comedy show but if I do I'll be paying in cash and probably not tipping that particular bartender.... Worst service I've ever spent $10 on lol read more
