Dined at this Tucson institution this past Sunday - six of us in total, four adults and two children. Food, service and atmosphere was everything we wanted and more! Adults had 1) Denver omelette minus bell pepper 2) mushroom/swiss omelette 3) corned beef hash & egg 4) chorizo & eggs. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast and sides - there were a LOT of sides...bacon, biscuits, gravy, tortillas, toast... One kid had the Pansan and boy are those pancakes huge! The other made his own special of 1 pancake, 1/2 order of french toast and bacon. They devoured their food so obviously it was good stuff. Personally I am always a little leery of getting chorizo at restaurants since most places serve a mild version but Franks did NOT disappoint. The chorizo is spicy and perfect. Service is fast and friendly and the staff make you truly feel welcome. They were busy but never made any of us feel like an inconvenience. Great place! read more

So not a fancy place by any means, but a good diner vibe. The parking lot is TINY and not well laid out. I parked a block away and walked over. The building isn't modern at all. It's probably older than most of us. What I got was good, but I think I ordered the wrong things. I got a steak breakfast special no eggs. I added a side of gravy for my biscuit. Most of the breakfast menu has egg dishes. The staff were super helpful and friendly. I thought about doing a piecemeal breakfast to get a nice breakfast I could eat, but that didn't work out. The breakfast steak I wouldn't get again, but it wasn't bad. They tended to under season the food for my preferences. The white gravy was excellent and I will get the biscuits and gravy next time. This is a local gem. Great sense of community stuffed into a small package that has some wear and tear in the best way. No fancy clothes or food. Just friendly, quick service and delicious home cooking. Space is very limited (the parking lot might have 20 stalls including ADA) but be patient. It's worth the wait. By night, it transitions to Francisco's! Southwestern Mexican inspired comfort food. We went on a Saturday morning and if anyone is missing their grandpa, I think this would be a good place to start looking... There were literally eight tables with solo old guy diners enjoy enjoying their breakfast... And the service staff was calling each of them them by name . I absolutely love going to simple places like this. It's so hard to find a simple, classic, family run (or appears to be family run) breakfast places nowadays because the trend seems to be the bougie brunch. I like their sign up front that says "elegant dining elsewhere." Very small place. I think the max occupancy is 48. We were able to find seating at the bar top, which is what I prefer. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered the chorizo plate and a ham and cheese omelette, both with hash browns. The chorizo itself tasted phenomenal and so authentic. It tastes great by itself, but even better with one of their hot sauces. Hash browns tasted perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The kitchen is open and so you can see your food being made for the most part. We had the chicken fried steak and the hungry person special which allowed us to sample several things which was not only a good idea but a tasty one. Did notice a couple things sent back but couldn't tell if it was the wrong order or not prepared correctly- in both instances I noticed them offer a refund for the specific item and in the other situation replace the order in less than 5 min. It was busy with non stop business but service was friendly and attentive. Parking is a bit challenging but side street parking is available. read more

Wonderful Motown music bumping at the right volume, our line cooks speak Spanish (this is after all, Mexico), everyone was smiling, our server sings along with said good tunes, there's a custom salsa available (Hector, the chef's salsa) and vibes were on point. Because I travel so much. I'm always on the look for a really good breakfast venue, this fit that description. It's a Tucson classic. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. I always like to support a local venue and this is a locally owned family business i think it's been around over for over 40 years . I have been many times, the service was fast and efficient and the food came along quickly. Staff really cared and wanted you to be happy. Even though a lot of people know each other they went out of their way to make sure you felt welcome. They serve breakfast and brunch. I came for breakfast, . One time I had the blueberry pancakes. The other times I had a classical breakfast: Bacon eggs, hash browns and biscuits. Shared a cinnamon role which was fantastic, they were accommodating to my requests for crisp hash browns and bacon. I also have a problem with beans and they were willing to sub them out and add meat in a breakfast burritos. It's a great fun place but it does get crowded which speaks to its food but they do a good job of trying to serve people the best way they can. But speaking as a critic, I would warn potential guests that this place is so popular that it was fully packed by 10 in the morning on a Friday in March. That means even if you schedule a visit on a day where you are positive it won't be crowded, more than likely you'll be wrong. My partner & I waited five minutes to be seated in a tight dining area with your chairs close to the other guests. The kitchen area is clearly visible when you enter, and you can hear the searing of the food. We were seated in the very back and it was still loud. The rowdy noises coupled with the close proximity to customers could make a guest overstimulated and uncomfortable. Customer service is at my top priority when I rate though, so this place still gets high remarks for how the staff treated us. They kept a cool head through the chaos, and gave us exactly the order we wanted. With so many people, I feared it wouldn't come out right. But they served what I ordered, which was scrambled eggs & bacon with a side of hash browns and white, buttered toast (Tip: Try the grape jelly with the toast. It's delicious!). Everything was perfectly done, and I ate it all right up. I can see why my partner named it the best food in town. When we first walked in we were greeted with a smile and an almost immediate cup of coffee! Everyone was dancing, singing, and slinging eggs and hash browns like an beautifully chaotic ballet. The inside of the restaurant is homey and charming and the food is delicious. Frank's is a quirky hole in the wall breakfast spot in Tucson. As soon as you go inside you will be able to tell immediately it's overflowing with sassy energy. It doesn't take itself seriously, and that's part of the fun. I've been a couple times and I will say I end up happy with the food, I don't think it's necessarily exceptional, but for what you pay for it's a nice change of pace every once in awhile from the modern breakfast spots in town. The flavors are not as strong as I would like. I ordered the egg/biscuits and gravy plate And I wanted more from the actual seasoning of the gravy itself. My kids enjoyed their French toast and pancakes and they made it very easy for my family to enjoy ourselves. The customer service was excellent. I think the only thing missing from Franks is bolder flavors. My husband had the breakfast burrito and with so many incredible spots in town it couldn't compete.
