This little restaurant is like stepping back in time to a small town cafe. There is a counter you could sit at, as well as tables and booths. They had some good daily specials for a reasonable price, which my friend took advantage of. The prices for most items were higher than what I'd seen online, so I opted for soup and salad. The soup was chicken tortilla with delicious broth and huge pieces of chicken. I think it was supposed to be a cup, but I got a bowl. Maybe it's because who would order hot soup for breakfast in Tucson in the middle of summer?! The salad was pretty standard, but they were generous with the lettuce. The customer service here was extremely friendly and hospitable. The food came out extremely fast, and I was super appreciative of that. Although the furniture in the place is a bit dated, it gives to the ambience of it being a classic older breakfast diner. I really enjoyed my visit here. I think I was here years and years ago but had forgotten. I love pancakes, which is what drew me in here again... but they don't really do pancakes here as a specialty. They do a basic pancake like most places including Denny's, with your choice of fruit dumped on top. Not very impressive to a true pancake obsessed person, along with not having maple syrup... If you are coming for pancakes you will get the same experience at any chain IMO. SO my husband true to form got the Huevos Rancheros and I opted for the Joe's Omelet. Both were good. Nothing to off the charts for me. My husband said the beans were really good. I think what you will see with the reviews (because I am astounded by the 5 star ones) is that folks like the whole independent diner vibe which I did enjoy as well. Service was great... I just can't rave about the food which was no different than a Denny's for me (hashbrowns were NOT fresh, despite other reviews going on about fresh ingredients). Food is not bad. One or two of The waitresses have attitude. Or no sense of humor. However the place is extremely noisy in that the station that the waitresses go to put the used dishes in is in a place where they just kind of throw them in there which makes a very loud clashing noise and it's right near the counter. Some of us have PTSD from Vietnam and I am one of them and I've asked them about it before and they don't seem to acknowledge my request of being a little bit more quiet with putting those used dishes in instead of throwing them in like living in a barn but if you can get over that it's not a bad experience and I'm writing about it because it's not pleasant for me to go in there and listen to these people throwing their dishes around and it makes me jump and that's just me and I'm just another Vietnam veteran who has PTSD that does not appreciate people acknowledging what our needs are read more

When in Tucson, I normally go by Joe's Pancake House once for breakfast. Service was friendly and my order came out quickly. This time, I had bacon, eggs, grits and wheat toast. The wait staff were all super nice--this could easily be a stressful place to work as it is a constant busy spot--but you see no stress on their faces--always a smile. The food was ok. Joe's is another good breakfast (and lunch) diner here in Tucson. I recommend it. Side story: My everyday drive is a Corvette. I was wearing my Corvette cap. When I went to pay my bill, Brandon, who took my payment, nonchalantly said, "You know, we have a valet service that you could use next time and you won't have to worry about where to park." LOL Yes, he saw my car and saw my hat and put 2 + 2 together. So funny! Love that. I'll be returning. But I won't be taking advantage of their valet service. ;) 5* = A top favorite. We decided to give Joe's a try today. My husband wanted Mexican food and I wanted breakfast. He had the cheese enchiladas with beans and I had an omelet with hash browns and pancakes. Everything was delicious. The building is old and tired but clean. Prices are fairly reasonable and portions are large. My only issue is my husband asked for 2 extra cups of salsa (he goes overboard with condiments). They were in small plastic condiment cups and charged $2 each, which seemed excessive. They close at 2 pm so we had to hurry to get there. Service was stellar and friendly. The total bill was $42.88 with tax and before tip ($4 salsa, $4 iced tea for me). They have daily breakfast & lunch specials reasonably priced. My breakfast was around $16+ and husband's was about the same. Typical these days. It is one of the best places I've ever had breakfast at in the last 10 years. When Yelp and Google reviews are four and five star consistently, you know you have a good place. My waitress was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. She filled my coffee cup without having to ask and that's all I ask for The food came out hot and it was very tasty. I ordered the skillet with over easy eggs, country potatoes, along with green peppers and onions. For the bread, I selected pancakes of course. The food was a 9 1/2 out of 10. The bathroom is located outside and it is a secured door so you have to get a key to open it but it's not a problem. The only other drawback (and it's not worth really dinging them over) is the Covid paranoia partitions that continue to be put up between the booths. But the quality of the food makes up for the ridiculousness of the Covid precautions. I wish I lived in this area because I would be going here frequently. Service speed depends on how busy it is, but the quality is consistent and good. On to the food! Menu offers a great selection, and prices are reasonable. Everything sounded so good, so I got all three. The omelette was very filling. Had the right amount of gravy, cheese, and a biscuit. I liked that the delivery ordering included an option to tip restaurant staff, as it has always seemed odd to me that all of delivery tips usually go to the driver, and not any of the restaurant staff. I took the opportunity to tip the staff (as well as the driver), even though I wouldn't see them. Since it was our first time trying this restaurant, I spread out our choices to try as many vegetarian things as possible. The Spanish omelet was good with a mild kick. The side of hash browns was uncooked, soggy, inedible. It's shocking to me they thought this was ok to serve. It was also rectangular, suggesting it had come to the restaurant pre-made, and they massively undercooked it. The Belgian waffle was made with that very sweet bulk commercial batter so many places use (not to my taste, but I don't have much of a sweet tooth). It was not at all crispy, but perhaps that's due to the delivery. We also got the build-your-own skillet, which I quite liked except that it was overly greasy. We had ours with home fries, onion, pepper, spinach, green chilies, and cheddar/jack cheese mix with over-easy eggs on top. They got the eggs just right, and it was flavorful and filling.
