Finally got to go to Happy Rooster Cafe. It is always so busy because it is popular, and I can see why. The food is good, the service friendly, the prices reasonable--why wouldn't you go there for breakfast? The biscuits and gravy were very good and I enjoyed them. Inside is a fun atmosphere. Kinda a barn-like, farm-like theme with roosters, of course. Wood paneling makes it comfy. Tables and chairs are comfy. Service is comfy. I suggest going very early at their opening time to avoid the wait. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. We walked in in the middle of the morning and could seat ourselves. Our server came over quickly and got us some waters (they came in wide-mouthed quart jars!). The breakfast and lunch menu had good selections to choose from. I got Eggs Benedict on sourdough with tomatoes as the side. Another person ordered an omelette with cottage cheese as the side. My dad found this place and brought our family here for breakfast. Most of us ordered the biscuits and gravy, while some of the kids chose pancakes and scrambled eggs. Everyone was happy with their meals, and the kids especially enjoyed the juice. My parents were also very pleased with their food. I was delighted with the Happy Rooster Cafe. The biscuits and gravy were warm, comforting, and delicious. I also loved the coffee and the cookie they served in the cutest little mug. When my grandmother used to make me go into her chicken coop to gather eggs her rooster was never happy. That rooster was angry down to its claws! I finally found a Happy Rooster. It's a cafe called the Happy Rooster. When you walk up to it you see farm art in graffiti style. I thought was I going to walk into a cafe or large chicken coop? What I walked into was a fun decorated, clean, and organized cafe. I ordered glass of water to drink, and when the water arrived it was in a 24 oz mason jar. I got tickled inside and loved it. I ordered the Farmers Feast and the eggs arrived as ordered, potatoes were perfectly cooked, bacon and sausage were flavorful. I am not a sausage link person, and I usually leave the sausage link untouched, but this sausage tasted great. I ate both links and that's very rare for me. The pancakes were fluffy and tasted delicious. This cafe is fun and it will become a new place for me to stop in to eat. Try this place it's fun and gives you that local cool vibe. read more

We ate breakfast today at the Happy Rooster. It was delicious. My husband is always on the hunt for good grits and he said the grits were some of the best he has ever had. The service was excellent and prompt and we really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the farm life painting on all the walls. Great food and great service! Horrible. Came in at 1:50PM, and employees immediately all chimed in together, "We're closed." It was 10 minutes before closing. I advised them of this, and they replied with "Our cook already left." This is a joke of a business. What company doesn't adhere to their own, advertised, hours of operation. Was giving this place a try for the first time, and will never be back. The place looked filthy and smelled bad. I'd say I dodged a bullet with their laziness. Shouldn't remain open if they can change their hours whenever they want. It's really too bad that you can't give 0 stars, because this place doesn't even deserve the 1 star that I'm giving it. Our server didn't even know what kind of salad dressings they had to offer. When trying to order a patty melt we were told that while they had hamburger patties, they were out of patty melts. I ordered a Cobb salad and asked for no tomatoes or onions and received my salad with just the ham,cheese, lettuce. The eggs were placed on the side not even on the salad. When I asked for a drink to go, I was given 2 empty cups. While the inside decor is inviting and makes you want to come back, the service and the food make you reconsider that decision. We stumbled on this joint while looking for a lunch spot. How we have never been here will remain a mystery. Best thing about this cafe is the friendly and welcoming staff, service was great and the place was spotless! The food was okay at best. I got a BLT and was surprised there was barely any lettuce and I was not a fan of the economy white bread. My husband got the French dip and it appeared to be on a large hotdog bun, although he said it was good even though on the small side for what he is used to getting at other restaurants (a fave of his). A mom and pop breakfast joint worth checking out because of their no nonsense menu, friendly staff and loyal customers. Their decor is right on the nose with a metal rooster by the entry way to images of it on the walls and rooster chachkies. It's very family friendly, no wonder it's packed making the ambiance a great place to eat a hardy breakfast. Conversations from some of the patrons and servers were fun and informal making you feel like you're home. They have a lot of parking to accommodate how packed the place is. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the gal at the front, you know you're in for some down home diner action. Lively atmosphere, friendly and fast service by our server, and delicious coffee and omelettes. Even the sour dough toast was still warm, buttery and crunchy when brought to our table. My friend had a Swiss, mushroom and bacon omelette and I had the Rooster special, which had (excellent) big chunks of green chile, ham and American cheese on top. So delicious. I got a side of their (delicious) homemade salsa since I like to eat that with eggs, as well as hash browns, which were crunchy and golden on top, moist in the middle. Truly epic breakfast. We were down on this side of town for some service on my Harley and wanted breakfast. This place is just down the road from the dealer and easy to find. We both ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was fluffy and moist and quite large. The gravy was a nice country gravy with lots of chunks of sausage. We both enjoyed our breakfast and if we ever need a place for breakfast on this side of town we will be back, if for no other reason then to try other things. Highly recommended. read more

It sits n of 22nd street at the light ne. Almost anything available on big menu anytime I was told . I believe this restaurant has been a local favorite near rolling hills for a ling time. It's been a while since I've stopped into Happy Rooster, so when my pops and brother said let's have breakfast, I suggested it. The last few times I went, it had been meh, but I wanted to try it again since time had passed. Today, it was a sure-fire hit. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I got my old fave Sonoran roast beef sandwich and chose tots for my side. Tots were fresh and crispy. Sandwich was stacked on perfectly toasted sourdough, full of meat and gooey cheese, and plenty of green chiles. My dad enjoyed his omelet, and my brother devoured his chicken fried steak breakfast. I even took home some hashbrowns and bacon for my wife, who is allergic to wheat. Our server said the hashbrowns are cooked on the grill and away from other wheat products, where as the home fries go into a deep fryer that other wheat products go, also. So I'm happy for her recommendation and my wife was happy with her take-out. read more

Great little hidden gem. We went a million years ago, liked it, and then never went back. Till today. Went for breakfast, at around 10 am on Saturday. They were crowded but never ran a wait and the service was still fantastic. They have a great menu with lots of pancakes, omelettes, and delicious bacon (which is the whole reason to go out for breakfast) plus a pretty good lunch menu. So glad we discovered the Happy Rooster Cafe after moving to Tucson a few years ago. We have only came for breakfast and have eaten here on several occasions. Originally from the mid west we found this cafe reminiscent of a good ole farm fresh breakfast. Ice tea is very good and served in a large mason jar glass. The only item we didnt like were the biscuits, they were dry and quite different from what we are used too. Otherwise we've loved every meal we have had here and will continue come for breakfast! We are regular breakfast customers (for years), so we thought we would try Happy Rooster Cafe for dinner. We were VERY disappointed. Only one server (who said she is usually the a.m. cook), and she was overwhelmed waiting on tables, acting has the hostess/cashier, advising the "new" cook in the kitchen, and acting as the manager. The food was subpar; skimpy serving of not very good beef liver (had to ask for another piece since the serving was so small), the ground round with gravy (not a good brown gravy) and the added mushrooms for an additional charge were practically non-existent, the fresh green beans served as the vegetable were slightly under cooked with no seasoning, our daughter's chicken tenders were inedible (first small portion over cooked and replacement tenders came out of kitchen much later and we not very appealing, I ordered a tomato soup (served cold) in an extremely small bowl and brought to the table after we got the entree and my wife ordered a side salad which came with a mound of shredded cheese and a large slice of raw onion - not very appetizing) that was also served after her entree was served (both should of been served before our meals), and our busy server never came around to refill our drinks. Our meals took a long time to come out of the kitchen (obviously understaffed). And the most painful experience was watching the young girl bussing the dirty tables (obviously poorly trained and doing double duty as the dishwasher), walked up and back slowly with dirty dishes to a cart, which was on wheel near the kitchen door, that could have easily been wheeled next to the table she was cleaning to more efficiently do her job, and once the table was cleared of dirty plates she did not clean and sanitize the tables (no spray or rag with her cart). We'll still stop by now and then for breakfast/brunch, but the dinner is a no go, especially for the price (over $60.00 for 3 people) and the lack of value or quality. read more

The food taste is above average. Portion is average to small for the price. For example the burger was decent but the bun was a size too small and that made for a very messy experience. Come on man, the burger bun is major important...give me a real bun! Service is pretty good considering how busy this place gets. Went for a first visit. I have seen and heard lots about this cute little place. My review is a bit mixed, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Sourdough toast was a killer loaf that more than exceeded my expectations.... Home fries with onions were a home run and the sausages were super tasty... but my over medium eggs arrived 50% one egg over hard. Wife and I slipped away early for a July 4th breakfast. Neighborhood eatery for pancakes. The inside is very well decorated. Some serious airbrush work very well done. Staff was masked per the current requirements. Tables had nice separation. So comfortable for the current covid requirements for me. Now the food, I had a short stack plain pancakes, two eggs over easy and bacon. Wife plate was same but scrambled with pecan pancakes. Coffee was smooth, strong and hot and kept full. Pancakes were different than I'm used to. They were more like a biscuit texture than buttermilk pancakes. Seems like they would make really good waffles.
