Cute little diner on the west side of town. You seat yourself and your server comes to take your drink order and give you menus. We both ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. I asked for a side salad instead of the potatoes/pancake. Our food came quickly and was delicious. The steak was crispy and flavorful, eggs cooked right, and salad was fresh. The ranch dressing was also very good. We live on the eastside, but may have to make the trek over here again sometime. read more

I Pass this place all the time, but I never noticed it. A friend of mine mentioned it so we popped in on a Saturday. I will say the service was not the greatest. It took a while for us to figure out that we seat ourselves and we were not acknowledged immediately. It also took a while for someone to get our drink order and we had to flag someone down to get our food order. Food was OK. Bacon was good and crispy. I did a omelette with bacon, spinach and cheese, and Side of pancakes (not bad portion sizes for the price) I am from the south and I love grits, the serving size was a lot, but the grits were lumpy, hard and not that great. I will admit I was a bit skeptical of this place after seeing some photos, but I am glad I was surprised. The food here is decent and the staff friendly and patient. It's not a trendy atmosphere or an Instagram-worthy presentation, but it's enjoyable and filling. I was thrilled to see chorizo on the menu, but their regular selection of omelette ingredients will meet most people's desires, too. My only real complaint is about the juice servings. It's not fresh squeezed juice but the cost per ounce makes you think it should be. read more

Omg. This place is the bomb of diners-a must go to!! Whether you're in the mood for pancakes or posole, a breakfast burrito or chicken fried steak-you have come to the right place. It's on the Westside right off interstate tucked away in a little strip mall. I'm salivating just thinking about their posole, which they only serve on Saturdays & Sundays. They also make white and red menudo on the weekends. I've had their chicken fried steak as well - also top notch, along with their perfectly cooked home fries and biscuits. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Breakfast burritos come with a side of the best frijoles in town. My friend raves about their corned beef hash. Love the wait staff and love the atmosphere. Just be prepared to wait, like all good diners. read more

It's been forever since I've been here, maybe a decade? On the west side of Tucson, we have lacked culinary options, but KG has been a fixture. Perhaps that is the strongest statement about KG - a stable fixture. Serivice is nice, comfortable, and familiar. The food is also comfortable, without surprises; no fancy pretentious names. My friend did mention that we were the youngest by far. That is another positive, I suppose. If you are feeling old and tired, visit here to be reaffirmed that age is just a number and that there are many people older than you. They are living alive, and they might even start an introduction by saying "when I was your age..." So, here is to KG and many patrons who have many more decades of breakfast left. read more

I was in the area yesterday and decided to give KG's a try. Being close to their 2:00 pm closing time, I ordered a relleno burger as a safe choice. The portion was generous including the fries and the garnish. The service was good and the ambiance acceptable. Overall I would rate them as earning 3 1/2 stars. For a small cafe that specializes in breakfast and lunch, KG's is exactly what you want it to be. The food is good hot off the griddle home cooked dishes, nothing super fancy, no creative takes on old favorites here. Instead KG's makes the "old favorites" just as you want them to be. It seems to always be busy here, but not so much that I have had to wait for a table. One tip that I have also seen in other reviews. When you walk in, just find a seat and sit. There is no host to sit you and the way that the café is laid out that is not immediately apparent. The prices are reasonable. The service is decent. And as previously mentioned the food is good. Two things stood out about this place, weak coffee and weak service. My partner and I sat for at least 8 minutes before anyone welcomed us or took our order. To be fair this place is a "seat yourself" kind of place but I know they saw us because I had made eye contact with at least 2 waitresses. Just when we were about to get up and leave, a waitress finally came over to serve us. As far as the food goes it was just ok not worth the $32 bill for just eggs, bacon, hash browns and a biscuit w/gravy. My partners hash browns were burnt and my biscuit and gravy was just plain tasting with no sausage bits. I think they just use the same gravy they put on the chicken fried steak. Also, I couldn't help but overhear the waitress tell a Hispanic customer "of course this is your plate" as she served her chorizo and eggs as if her white companion didn't eat chorizo too. I kept waiting on a refill on my weak coffee in hopes the next batch was not as watered down but they never came back around to serve us. Not coming back here not due to the food so much but the hospitality was mediocre for not being that busy. Just happened to be on this side of town, which I NEVER AM, and Google popped up this little place to eat. Now I'm a breakfast cafe junkie so I was excited to try out a new little joint. Walked in and was immediately drawn to the art on the walls.... very cute. The whole dang place is cute. I wish it wasn't so far from my lilly pad cause I'd be here all the time, no joke! Everything I ate was fantastic! The bacon was tasty, scrambled eggs yummy and the home fries, PERFECT! We even tried to share a pancake but the rest of the food was very filling. I have been a southern Californian missing home for 10 months, and for the first time since leaving, I don't feel like I need to miss the Mexican food. KG's doesn't look like it belongs where it does. Its plain lettering façade is flanked by a gastroenterologist and a commercial complex, a dull impression to make. In my experience, a place like this can only ever be a memorable hotspot or a distressing waste of $10. It was lively inside, with no-nonsense waitstaff hustling about serving multiple tables, yet they were ready to serve me at the drop of a hat once I seated myself at the counter. And you WILL seat yourself. There is no other choice. KG's cares not for the frills of a host or hostess, and seems too honest for that. With the desert winter nipping at my toes, I ordered the Mexican weekend morning staple, pozole rojo. It came out quickly, and I fear the attached picture does no justice. The bowl was laden with an obnoxious amount of hominy with a decent bite, in contrast to the tender pork whose essence swam in every drop of sumptuous broth. I take umbrage with them offering lemons, instead of the more traditional lime, but ultimately such petty grievances do little to tarnish the food. I still finished my bowl, and I still enjoyed doing so. The staff are lively as all hell, I'll give them that. Brunch and a show wasn't what I was expecting when I came in, but the banter between the staff and towards me was a welcome change of pace from the stiff cordiality of your usual fast casual. The service had a lasting impression, all told. If you had told me that an American-style diner owned by cowboy hat-wearing blonde folk could do pozole better than the so-called "authentic" Mexican restaurants just down the street any time within the last year, I would've called you a fool and a cretin. Not only does KG's do that, though, they'll do it with a smart aleck smile. I guess I'm the fool, but I am a satiated and delighted fool. Just bring your own limes next time, the staff told me in their tired wisdom. Maybe I will, because there will be a next time. read more

I was at KG's during Carlos Medina's bizarre behavior. He was jovial and polite to one waitress while borderline disrespectful to Mika. He appeared to be happy when he left the restaurant and yelled across the room, "Thank you guys so much, I will leave a review." I have been eating at KG's for years and have not had any unpleasant experiences there. The staff are friendly and know most of the customers by name. It is unfortunate that Carlos feels he had poor service, as the restaurant overall is very good. For a lawyer and a veteran that leaves negative reviews for everyone from doctor's offices to Culligan Water. Maybe Carlos should do so self reflecting. His approach determines other's response, maybe everyone else isn't the problem. read more

I'm entirely surprised by the guy named Carlos in this review as I was eating at the same time he was at 6:30am. He was friendly and when asked solely by the busser if he as doing fine all 3 times he said he was fine. He left happy and said "thank you guys so much, I will leave a review". Well what a coward to leave such a terrible review. Although personally this is one of our favorite spots. Maybe you might catch a server having a bad day but who's to say their dog didn't die before coming to work. But food it's BOM.com, I'd recommend everyone and their mamas. Have been coming here for over 10 years. My girls have grown up coming here for breakfast on the weekends as a treat. The food is amazing and the staff are so pleasant. Definitely recommend this family owned restaurant for just some good home cooked food. read more
