Nice local cafe eatery. I think it is wait to be seated in this mall restaurant, but I saw others come in and seat themselves. Seemed very friendly and busy. Staff were in their Halloween best with costumes. There is booth, table and counter seating. We were quickly greeted and seated. Menu is cafe homestyle with sandwiches and entree based American meals. Lots of side options. Prices are on the low end and very reasonable. It is average to loud depending on the crowd. Service was great. The people seemed to enjoy serving. Food was good, it was about average tasting with nothing to put it over the top, and the portions were decently sized. This place is from a different world. A world where are parents and grandparents grew up. A place where home cooked meals lived and service was the life blood of a restaurant. I have been here twice but it was amazing to see that the waitresses knew regular customers. Regular customers knew their waitresses and they greeted each other like long time friends. I love going to this place because the food is always good. The chili was nice and thick and had just the right amount of spice. The ham and cheese was evenly distributed on the sandwich, but the fries weren't exactly crispy enough for my tastes. The atmosphere is one that gives the neighborhood diner feel. We stopped at Margie's Kitchen for breakfast and it was the right choice. The service is nothing short of excellent. My western omelette with Swiss cheese hit the spot. Coffee was continually refilled. My wife had scrambled eggs with bacon. I was asked if my meal was satisfactory. My plate was completely clean. That was the answer. Reasonable price $$. Umm...it was OK. Service was excellent and the food arrived quickly. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes. My friend had a salad. I love diners and true comfort food. But, the food was just average. Not awful, but not great. They were busy at noon on Friday but service doesn't affect the food. The turkey tasted like it was out of a package from Safeway. We visited Margie's Kitchen for the first time. They used to be tied into the Bread & Butter cafe, but no longer, hence the name change. What a treat. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Grab a seat and they are right there asking about drinks. Menus on the table. Diner vibe, some booths and some tables. Everything is very clean and inviting. My husband had a green chile & cheese omelette, hash browns and a pancake. I had steak & eggs, steak perfectly cooked, over medium eggs and hash browns. Everything was delicious and the pancake was probably one of the best on the planet (IMHO). Then the pie. I had the lemon meringue and the crust was oh so perfect. It was 12 noonish on a Sunday and it was busy. There were a few open tables and a booth which we grabbed. It was warm inside. The service was great except I never got mustard that I asked for my hamburger. The food was good and came out fast. The chicken fried steak looked amazing at the other table next to us. Enjoyed the whole experience here the food was tasty and hit the spot! I had the Florentine omelet and it was good. I'm very picky about my omelets because I hardly ever find a place that make 'em as good as mine. They had ample ingredients and the cheese was inside the fold. Some restaurants put the cheese on top of the omelet, which is mystifying to me. That's not an omelet. They used frozen spinach instead of fresh, but that was not a big deal, it still tasted pretty yummy. The hash browns were excellent. Everything was quite good. The waitress was super. It is obvious that they have many long-timers coming as my waitress said hi or bye using their first names. I wasn't overly impressed with the rhubarb pie, though. I will try some of their other pies. I'll be coming back. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. This little cafe has been taunting us for weeks. We finally stopped in for lunch today. As we entered a gentleman teased us that they had eaten all the food so we might as well go home. Yup! That told me we were in for a treat. It's a standard cafe menu. But everything was absolute perfection! I had the best grilled ham & cheese of my life! While the food is good, it's the staff that really makes the experience top notch. While this restaurant looks standard with tables and booths. It looks like it's nothing special. My friend took me to this hot spot on the Eastside and it was busy! The chicken fried steak & gravy on top was delicious-and the biscuit on side fluffy. Kind of funny - I had to ask for jelly (none on table) so our waitress dropped off 2 little containers of strawberry then hurried away. So when she came back I'm like, do you have grape (I don't like strawberry and is there a shortage of jelly that prevents her from bringing a little variety in a bowl or whatever)? I was in the area and craving a great breakfast, so I opened up my handy dandy Yelp app and was led here by the reviews. It's not often I'm disappointed by the Yelpers recommendations, but this one fell flat for me (and my guest.) Upon entering on a busy Sunday morning, we were not greeted by any kind of friendly welcome. A lady came up to take our names and her greeting was cold & simple, "How many?" I almost wanted to leave because of that cold greeting, but stayed to see if it got better. We had a short wait and our waitress was definitely much more welcoming and friendly (thankfully!) I ordered their chorizo plate and coffee. Chorizo was average. Their red salsa was below average for me, lacking heat and salt. Portions are small, but perfect for me. Their pricing is a bit strange, but very affordable. Ambiance was what you would expect from a diner in a strip mall. Overall, I'm not sure I would return, as I look for places where I feel welcomed, first and foremost. P.S. I also ordered a piece of pumpkin pue to go and it was very tasty, but a bit gooey. read more

They still have the same favorites from when they were still Bread and Butter Cafe and then some...I really like the Sonoran Benedicts with the chorizo and hatch green chile--plus they're very generous on the Hollandaise sauce--def a must try dish at Margie's. The service is really fast, and all servers are super welcoming. For the classics like the chicken fried steak and the Reuben, Margie's makes them really well. And for dessert, the pies here are bomb! The apple pie ala mode def just hits the spot. This restaurant is a pleasant space and everyone working there seemed friendly. I watched folks behind the counter in the kitchen and they seemed to be efficient and happy. Good selection on the menu; I had the Chicken Philly sandwich and it was very good, excellent size for a lunch sandwich. The side of coleslaw was very good. We both had a cup of tomato soup, which was good as well. I was little surprised by the pricing on the soup and the waitress actually advised us of the pricing before she added it to our order when we requested it. I was surprised to see a bowl of soup was $5.89 and a cup of the same soup was $5.09. The vibe of the restaurant is very good and I look forward to going back again. read more

I would give less if I could. Went for a little lunch date with my husband. Asked for 2 Dr.Peppers while we looked over the menu. We knew what we wanted right away so when the waiter came back with the sodas we placed the order. We tried our soda and it tasted off. So I asked for a water instead and the waitress started to make a scene with the other waitresses yelling that I don't know what I'm talking about. So after swatting flies. Getting a dirty cup and politely asking for a water. We just left. We did not need the attitude, poor service and never even got to the food. This restaurant changed its name recently, but the staff and the food are the same as before. It's a great place to meet with friends for breakfast or lunch. This week it was lunchtime, so I tried their Reuben sandwich with tomatoes as a side. They were happy to accommodate my request for sourdough instead of rye. The sandwich was hot and the bread was nice and crispy. Our server was very friendly and efficient. She checked in with us several times throughout our meal.
