Trident was a pleasant cross-genre dining excursion. My son and I found the restaurant, by searching for a local sports bar, to watch Sunday night NFL. The facility delivered the game, with multiple televisions (extra large, large and medium sized) placed around its ample and roomy three dining venues,(outdoor patio bar, indoor bar, and dining room. The atmosphere felt very trendy, upbeat, and fun. What set this facility apart from other "sports bars" to me, was that it appeared to be staffed and managed more like a nicer, "dressy" restaurant. The serving staff were very attentive, polished, polite, and efficient. The tables were bussed and cleaned with pit crew efficiency. But honestly, what really set Trident apart, was the very high quality, attention to detail culinary skills of the kitchen staff. The chicken tender appetizer had juicy, piping hot chicken breast, inside crispy perfectly spiced batter crust. With no heavy grease saturation that is common for bar food. Similarly Mexican Sea Bass, was perfectly prepared with a slight pop of surface resistance before the fish flaked into juicy perfectly seasoned morsels. The dish was balanced flavor and texture wise. Truly, I want to go back to have it again. My son ate fish and chips, and said that it was very delicious. I'll have to take his word for it, because it was devoured before I could even sneak a peek, let alone a taste. Desert was a house-made 4" or 5" wide, 3/4" deep chocolate chip cookie, served piping hot fresh out of the oven, with a creamy vanilla bean ice cream and generous chocolate syrup garnishment. The pride and attention to detail I observed is the true core of high quality experience. I commend Trident for that as much or more than anything, and hope they cherish and maintain that ethos. Service was good. Attentive. Started off with crab cakes and a margarita. It was pretty good. The remoulade is strong so I would have preferred it on the side instead of the cakes sitting right on top of it. The fish and chips were okay. Fish was decent but small. It had been years since we had been to Trident II when we decided to go there with two friends and try their fish and chips. We were surprised when going in to find so many servers. The hostesses were especially friendly, which really set the tone going in. We all ordered the fish and chips. The fish was probably the best we have had in Tucson. The batter was the perfect consistency and tasty. The cole slaw was perfect as well, not drowned in mayo or overly dressed. The fish portions were generous. So were the french fries, although we would have preferred non-seasoned fries. The servers were also uniformly friendly and efficient. The ambiance was pleasant. As we ate we realized why so many servers - it was game day and it was packed before we left. The locale has a large parking lot which is convenient. We will return soon. read more

I was in the mood for some fish and chips and remembered enjoying the fish here. Of course I thought they had all closed but I was happy to find out this location was still open. The place seems more a bar for the Grey haired types instead of a restaurant. Service was super fast and friendly. Now to the food. We started with frid clam strips which were straight from a box. But I enjoyed their tartar and cocktail sauce. My wife ordered a Philly cheesesteak and it was like a regular Philly, completely unseasoned. Which is not good in my mind. I got the captains platter, the fish was of course great, the shrimp jumbo, the calamari seemed out of the box. The fries were overcooked bordering on burnt for both of us. Love this location. Great atmosphere overall. Every starters, entrees, and drinks are delicious. The team here is quite attentive. The mussels are our favorite! Oysters are OK- Trident needs to ensure the oysters are completely separated from the bottom shell so it's easier and suitable for guests to eat. My friend had the Pomegranate Mega Mimosa--super refreshing--and a solid Bloody Mary with great garnishes. Showed up at 11. Seated right away and brought drinks. We took a little time to check out the menu, then ordered. The waitress was kind. The food took a Very Long time to get to us. Some mix-up between the order a the kitchen. We were here an hour before we got our orders. (Only bad thing) When it came, Mom really liked her sliders and the pickles. We have been long time patrons and loved the food, service, and good energy. But the last three times we've come it seems the quality of the food has declined. I love the shrimp tacos, but last three times the shrimp has been overcooked and kind of hard and chewy. Tonight I ordered fish tacos instead, and was disappointed. The fish was soggy and no flavor, except for the coleslaw in the tacos. We also ordered the French dip roast beef sandwich and again, not much flavor in the meat and jus. The best thing we ordered was the feel fried pickle appetizer which has been consistently delicious each time. We're pretty sad about this and hope the food gets better with good flavor! read more

Friend and I had dinner at Trident Grill II last night. The atmosphere was great. Not a younger crowd, which is great for those of us with some white or silver in our beards. Every time you move your head you'll spot a television playing one of the games that's on. Our server was excellent. Unfortunately I forgot the young ladies name. She was quick on refills, was friendly (NOT FAKE), and answered all of our questions. For our appetizers my friend ordered the fried pickels and I got the mozzarella sticks...both AWESOME! For our main dishes, friend had the clam chowder in a bread bowl with a 4oz seared salmon. I had the Captains Platter. Again, both excellent. Will definitely return when visiting Tucson. read more

I think that I've become more sensitive to noisy dining experiences. If I'm going to risk dining out these days, I want to visit with my friends, not scream at them across the table. By the time I left, I was completely exhausted from the strain of yelling and asking them to repeat themselves. The food is okay. It's pretty basic though and didn't have a lot of flavor. One of my friends needs to eat low carb and I need to eat low fat. This was a challenge for both of us. I ended up with the pork tacos which were okay but not really up to City of Gastronomy Tucson standards. I doubt I'll be back. But there was nothing exactly particularly wrong. It just wasn't super enjoyable. Also, although we were a table of 5, we had a 20% gratuity automatically added, with a line on the receipt for additional gratuity. I'm all about supporting the wait staff, and would have tipped sufficiently without it being forced on me. Is this a thing now? The menu stated a 20% tip is added to parties of 6 or more but we were 5. Everyone at the table was put off by this. read more

I've only eaten here once but I will be back for the smoked chicken taco. It was so savory. The chicken is chopped into very small pieces and tastes of mild smoke and spicy bbq flavor, topped with a very good corn salsa and heaped into a flour tortilla. It was about 1:30 p.m., place is packed, large party's were waiting outside. We got lucky, got seating right away. Menu is extensive, as I looked around all the fried foods and burgers that looked great. My friend and I were opting for more healthy choices so we ordered 6 raw oysters and the shrimp cocktail. While traveling for business with an associate he found Trident Grill II , it was close to our hotel and reviewes were good. Place is super cool, TV's with sports , customers all seemed happy socializing and enjoying drinks on the patio. Beer is cold, and it didn't take long to get one. We ordered the steakhouse burger and the fish and chips, and we split plates and shared. Burger was juicy and so flavorful, fries were crispy and seasoned to perfection. The fish and chips were delicious, the crispy not greasy fish was one of the best I ever had. This place does not disappoint as their service is as great as the food. We ate dinner here last Saturday for date night, and it was not what we expected. We ate on the patio between 8:30 and 9:30 PM, and there were little kids running around and screaming. I am a parent, and there should be boundaries in public places; it is a restaurant and not a playground. The food was ok. I had the Maui Wowie (Jerk spiced beef, grilled pineapple, kalua (this is misspelled on their website menu) pork, swiss cheese, LTO, mango salsa, pretzel bun).
