Despite being a well known dive bar on 4th ave, I hadn't been here until very recently. Upon entering, I already knew I was going to like it. With red and blue mood lighting and a packed yet peaceful vibe, I was immediately loving it. We snagged the last two seats at the bar and ordered a watermelon margarita with a tahin rim. And I think they're being pretty slick with Russian vodkas (the sort Total Wine is boycotting because of Ukraine) at the front and center of the bar. All prices are friendly toward the working class. Che's isn't just a dive, it's THE dive. The epicenter of Tucson's local culture. Your favorite artist probably drinks here. Your favorite bartender probably drinks here. Hell, everyone drinks here. From the college kid who just turned 21 to this one dude I saw celebrating his eighty-something birthday. I see why. My husband and I were visiting Tucson from Palm Springs Ca. Che's lounge was on our list of bars to try. Great little dive. I was horribly hungover and ordered a Bloody Mary. It was sooo good!! Kicked my friend out for being a little drunk when they could have diffused the situation in a calmly manner (giving him water or a soda) instead of starting a protest (by the bartender) from the entire bar. You can be sitting in the back patio at night while a local band plays... or sitting inside staring at amazing art hanging on the walls and 4th avenue patrons walking by. Either way, I always feel right at home. Great staff, always efficient, no matter how busy or slow. I do prefer it, when it is slower. As a true dive bar, they have a $5 liquor menu all day long and yet they also have a trademark delicious fresh watermelon drink. What more could you ask for. read more

I'm here to celebrate getting married. Che's was the first place on our list to visit and my maid of honor got told off by Larry the bartender. He has a long white beard and a bad attitude. She asked for one of their famous blueberry mojitos at about 9pm on a Saturday. The place was well staffed and not too busy. As a bartender, it was the perfect time to make a mojito... he told her "I would hope you tip more for that." She knows bar etiquette and is a very good tipper having been in the service industry for most of her adult life. She played nice and got a canned drink instead AND tipped him well. If it was me, he would've gotten a goooodd talkin to. The only saving grace for this place is Nate the good bartender and Parker the doorman. We walked in at 1 pm on a Friday with my in-laws. The moment we walked in every local at the bar turned and STARED at us and looked us up and down, bartender gave us a dirty look. We are visiting from overseas. My partner produced an Australian drivers licence which is not accepted in the state of Arizona. That's fine, we said ok we'll just go somewhere else fair enough. As we were leaving we heard someone say "fucking Australians." Really nice - isolating tourists who are trying to give you money. We were leaving quietly and calmly. DONT come here if you're not an American cos apparently that's the only people they're happy to serve. I've been in America 3 months and the people here have been the loveliest, most accomodating people I've ever met and this is a really unfortunate stain on American hospitality. Also on the way out a local said "it's not his fault you're underage" to my partner who is pushing 30. Seriously the most hostile hospitality environment I've ever been in would not recommend when so many venues are so lovely and really hospitable. This bar located on 4th Ave is one of those classic bars. Because a lot of college kids frequent it be ready to be IDed at the door. This place always seems to be busy and always a long wait for a drink but a great place to hang out. It gets particularly loud inside but just stroll to the back and there is a large patio. The patio area has heaters in the winter so never fear Tucsonans. Grab a seat back there and actually chat with your friends without screaming. Pro-tips: Ask your bartender for some snack. You will get a bowl of chex mix and earn the respect of everyone at your table. Went to this bar for the first time yesterday my brother ended up, ordering 3 drinks and the male bartender told him I'm not gonna be dealing with this shit. It's either you guys order all together or don't order at all so then my brother informed me to go order on the other side with the female so bc this guy was grumpy so I go to order from the female on the other side, The bartender ignored me and walked away. Turns out she ended up making my drink. My drink was made a different type of way than usual so I asked her if there was anyway I could get a refund or anything like that. She ended up getting really upset telling me that I should've been more specific . I then ask another man who seems to be the manager if he could make me another drink he ended up walking away from us talking to the bartender that originally made my drink came back gave me my drink and we apologized and just let him know why we asked for another drink. He ended up getting aggressively angry and was telling us. What the fuck do you fucking expect . then my sister and I were having a conversation to each other and he overheard her tell me the vibe wasn't it that we had to go soon he ended up, interrupting our conversation and telling us to get the fuck out then, and that he hates people like us always fucking complaining never tipping and continue telling us that we were bitches and that we needed to go. He ended up calling Security to kick us out. It was honestly just sad. We were just trying to get drinks and have a great night instead we had a disrespectful man in our face screaming at us It was very unprofessional I talk to four staffs that night and every single one of them cursed at Me and made me feel very disrespected. Bartener was lovely, had some great convo, drinks were great. Then closing time comes rolling around. She asks me if I want one more before the cut off. Excellent, thank you I felt very taken care of.. Then literally 5 minutes go by and I'm trying to suck my drink down, lights go on. Doorman starts yelling, get the f out. Get the F out. What the hell?? So I tell the bartender, you just gave me this drink 5 minutes ago. "Oh, that was out of the goodness of my heart". When I questioned this, I was told "never come back!". I was not drunk or beligerent but confused as to why I was served when the policy was of complete intolerance after the cut off time. Damn right I won't ever come back. That's insane. I really like the overall vibe of this place but the 2 old white bartenders are such a buzzkill, they always seem to be in a bad mood and mean when they take your order, they even seem a bit r*cist tbh, totally not in the spirit of Che Guevara at all. This place is cool but they need to hire younger bartenders that really reflect the type of crowd that goes there which is really a younger to mid 30s crowd, I hardly ever see old people there. read more

Terrible bar, bouncer had no idea what he was doing, didn't know the laws and obviously the bartender had no clue either because the bouncer left to go ask him multiple times after scanning. Im glad I wasn't allowed in because If they don't know how ID's work, I'm sure they have no idea how to bartend and make drinks. I'm a bartender in old town Scottsdale so I know how this scene works.I turned 21 a week ago and he denied my entry and wouldn't accept my government issued ID. Saturday nights are packed here. Went to see a friend's band play. Not the most inviting venue for music as there's no real stage and very little standing room. If you're lucky to get a seat at the bar or in one of the booths off to the side, you've lucked out. And bring earplugs so you're not experiencing tinnitus the next day. The back patio is a nice area to hang out. The bathrooms typical of a divey/casual bar. The redeeming quality, probably the only redeeming quality, is the cheap drink prices. I paid $15 after tip for 3 beers and my friend's tequila and soda. Otherwise, I felt guilty getting served. The bartenders looked at me like "what do YOU want?" and stared at me as I came back with an empty glass like "YOU again?" and just served other clearly drunker people. I get that I'm not a pushy alpha male or a hot female with a nice rack demanding drinks, but flat out overlooking/ignoring someone clearly waiting to order a drink willing to pay you for it is the lowest form of (dis)service out there. Step it up with more attentive bartenders or something. read more

Alice in Chains blasting on the jukebox along with a beer and tequila shot special sealed the deal. If you like quality, strong, cheap drinks with awesome and fast bartenders, look no further. On weekends it can get a bit crowded, but the smoking patio is usually where we go because there are more tables. There are often bands playing, and if there aren't they have a great jukebox as well as some pinball and other arcade games. The ambiance is slightly divey with hipsters as far as the eye can see which is preferable, at least for me. Overall I find it pretty down to earth, and non-threatening. I've personally never had problems with anyone here, people are usually pretty friendly and the usual bouncer does a great job of keeping the place under control. I've never been to this bar during the day but I imagine it'd be great for day drinking. Even on a crazy night they can cook up some great concoctions so I bet given more time, the bartenders could come up with some tasty experiments. I've never been disappointed with their "trust the bartender" shot or drink. Che's is my go-to bar on 4th. We usually start there, and end the night there when we go out. If you're looking for an affordable, no-bull drinking experience this place is for you. Bonus: Adult snowcones if you're into that. read more

I've always enjoyed Che's BUT tonight, I was refused entrance because... I was wearing sunglasses. Seriously. The door person apparently decided that wearing shades in the evening means that one is drunk - that's what he told me. In fact, I rarely drink at all, and was just coming in to have a Coke, which is what I usually have there. I was wearing sunglasses because my clear lenses were back in my vehicle, parked a few blocks away, and I didn't want to go back and fetch them. I had consumed no alcohol in the preceding 48 hours. Maybe this place gets away with treating the college crowd that way - although I can't imagine why they would treat ANY patron like that - but acting like an asshole just because you can is just stupid. I will make a point of advising my friends and associates to steer clear of Che's - unless an apology is forthcoming. read more
