Gobuki Food Cart - Fried Udon Noodle Dish

A quick look at the menu yields the usual suspects found on fast food Korean menus: kalbi over rice and bulgogi sandwich. However, what intrigued me was the fried udon, which I ended up ordering. The chef stir fried a pack of white udon noodles with sliced cabbage and carrots, adding sesame oil, soy sauce and oyster sauce. I was pretty happy when the tourists walking by murmured, "That smells so good." As a Yelper, you have to love "food envy". I added on extra beef and when I received my order, I was pleasantly surprised by the weight. Seemed like a great bargain for $8. I settled back at my apartment and started my feast. The dish was packed with udon, rice, bulgogi, veggies and three fried dumplings. The dumplings were subpar, but still a nice side dish, acting similar to a breadbasket. It's there for you, but you don't have to eat it. The top was covered with bulgogi and Korean chili sauce, an above average showing for a food cart. The beef is nicely marinated and with the paste had a nice sweet and mildy spicy flavor. The udon noodles were excellent. Fried and cooked with soy sauce and oyster sauce, the noodles had a slight brown tint and smelled amazing The lady also drizzled some aioli sauce and bundled with the veggies gave off a creamy texture. Add to the fact that it's a rare dish to find at a food truck, gives the fried udon even more value. All in all, it seemed like a great and solid cart. Hopefully, Gobuki will stay for a while and the lines will start forming (not sure how it is during prime lunch time). I do have to note that the surface for cooking was rather small, so there could be a production logjam if customers are ordering the fried udon in multiples.

Bapcha used to be there and I didn't like their food that much (plus their cheap portions), but I saw a different team there and figured to give it a shot. The kalbi is VERY flavorful and the meat to rice ratio is pretty good (not cheap with the meat). They also offer it in a (baguette) and have bulgoki (with rice or on baguette also), mandu, spicy chicken, and fried udon. Looking forward to the fried udon next time I go there. Decent prices ranging from $6-$8. The only downfall is that it's a long line and you may have to wait a little - but better than Duke (feels like sardines in there!).

I put it in my mouth, and that's what happened. I inhaled the whole thang down. Then I looked at what I had done, and it was good. I think the vendor's secret must be either using Hebrew National or injecting liquid into the hot dog, because it's so moist and juicy when you bite into it. The amount of condiments and kraut is just right.

For $2, I enjoyed my first real meal of the day and the first in NYC in 2 years - a dog with spicy mustard and sauerkraut. And it was good, people. Reeeal good. Made well enough that mustard didn't squirt out all over me and peg me as the lame-o Midwesterner posing as a slick kitty from the city for a day. Delicious enough to soothe my empty stomach (yes, it's true - sauerkraut can soothe! Who knew?). I think I mentioned in my Renegade Craft Fair review that I purchased an "I [picture of Chicago-style hot dog] Chicago" t-shirt, which has led my husband and me to add "I hot dog Chicago" to our vernacular. Now I can say I hot dog New York, too.

They also have cookies in the front and other frozen goods in the freezer. This used to be my go to spot but the strawberry cheesecake really didn't hit the spot after it was defrosted. Boy, I wish I had this talent but I don't.. here's where Aunt Butchie's steps in. Aunt Butchie's baked goods are just delicious. I've had numerous varieties of their cookies: red velvet, chocolate chip, chocolate chunk cookie and double chocolate cookies. Of course, AB is known for her cheesecake cannolis, mini cheesecake cones and if you are undecided go for the Sampler Pie (Chocolate Mousse, NY Cheesecake, Mississippi Mud Pie,Carrot Cake). There is limited seating indoor and outdoors but of course bringing these baked treasures to family makes you want to run home and share it with them. The best is the "to go" fridges where you can take home all of the above and more! AB dream was to share their family desserts with neighborhood restaurants, a dream that Bay Ridgians are so happy they did!
