Fresh tofu fa

This place is literally a whole in the wall. You wont see a glaring big store front. They occupy an area within a store. Currently with Covid they are selling directly outside. Tofu pudding, soy milk, fried tofu, rice noodles, and even nian gau! Everything a foodie could ever want. Quarts of tofu are the best bag for the buck. We bought a little of everything and enjoyed it all! I cant wait to return.

Update: Tofu pudding prices went a little up, but I am still buying it! Finally! A new place that sells homemade tofu and other v. Despite the long line, I was able to buy dofu hua (tofu pudding).

It's such a rare gem and the art of tofu pudding is not well known anymore.

Who knows if the famous Nathan's "snap" will fall by the wayside in favor of cheaper ingredients but I suspect Joey Chestnut won't fare as well trying to down 75 fried egg rolls in 120 seconds. In any case it might make for some awfully fun television... Mystery Meat Theater. Four curious stars.

We visited Coney Island on Jun 26, 2025 and had lunch from Nathan's Famous on the recommendation of…read moreour tour guide. He insisted we try their hot dogs. At the Riegelmann Boardwalk location, We ordered two original dogs, a chili dog, a bag of large fries and drinks. Total bill was $42.39; the original dog and large fries were $5.99 each, the chilli dog was $6.99, and a regular-size drink was $4.99. (You can get three hamburgers at McDonalds;s for the price of a regular drink at Nathan's Famous.) As we ate, I wondered what the big deal was about Nathan's Famous. "Hot dog is hot dog," I kept thinking. This was no exception. Wife said that hers tasted like her own homemade ones. Mine tasted no different from the ones I got every month at my home church. They tasted good but nothing that was truly outstanding. The fries were the same. Thankfully, I had a heavy breakfast so didn't have to order much for lunch. Wait line to order was long (at least 10 minutes). Table seating was very limited at Riegelmann Boardwalk, but we found a bench towards the beach to sit and eat. I cannot comment on the parking since we came here by train. I expect it to be difficult and expensive since this is New York City. Unlike our tour guide, I'm not going to recommend for or against Nathan's Famous. You are welcome to try, but don't be surprised if they don't measure up.

I walked out of Beer Island and right behind them on the boardwalk is Steve's Grill House, a large walk up counter with a huge selection of food (pizza, hot dogs, sausage, cheesesteaks, hamburgers, chicken, seafood, snacks, and so on). I wasn't expecting culinary greatness, just some cheap unhealthy beach grub. I ordered 2 corn on the cobs, a cheeseburger, and chicken fingers with french fries. There were no prices posted so I had no idea what it would cost, it came out to $17 which was fairly reasonable. The reason for my 1 star is very simple, this was the worst food I have ever eaten in my life. The chicken fingers were cold; the fries were barely warm and soggy; the burger was small, tough, and dry; and the corn was obviously just sitting in lukewarm water because it was tasteless and extremely soggy and inedible. To make matters much worse is when I first sat down with the corn I discovered an ant deeply wedged between two soggy kernels. I'm completely insulted that anyone would not only serve people that kind of previously frozen, overcooked, cold, and tasteless food but that they would have the nerve to charge for it. I'm not sure if there's any place on the boardwalk any better than this but learn from my mistake and stay away from this one.
