We've been coming since the day it opened on Smith Street, and everything we've tried, the rainbow cookies, the tres leches, the cheesecake, has been wonderful. Wow! What a wonderful bakery experience. I came here to purchase about 2 or 3 slices of cake to celebrate my brother's job promotion. I wanted to get the carrot cake as opposed to the carrot cheesecake, however, it was sold out. Instead, I purchased the Slice of Red Velvet cake and a slice of Blackout cake. Each slice was approximately $9. Not a terrible price; managed to get two slice of cake for under $20. I love how there is an option to dine in here. There's a full menu of coffee beverage options to choose from and a pastry to pair it with. There are also a variety of decorative cupcakes to choose from as well. I instantly noticed the Knicks championship cupcakes when I walked in. The establishment is relatively small but you can tell that they get great business here. Stopped by early Saturday morning to pick up some Blackout Cake slices for a birthday. There is metered parking in front and residential parking on close by. I had no problem finding parking. They had a few people ordering at the front, and a few people eating in the back. I perused the available cake (and pie) slices and other smaller baked goods, but did not see the Blackout Cake Slice! When I asked the staff, they regretfully informed me that they did not have slices that day, so I went with the next best option... an 8" cake! I didn't get any writing on the cake, as I already had a Happy Birthday candle, and I didn't want to add extra icing to the cake. I liked how well they package the cake. The box was large enough, and they line the bag with a thin piece of cardboard to stabilize the box. I'm not a big sweets person, but I enjoyed the chocolate-y richness of the cake. Dropped in with a friend on a mission to find a birthday cake, and somehow walked out having bought nothing, without that stopping me from having a great time. Just wandering the case and taking in the options was enough on its own. The décor is genuinely cute, and every dessert on display looked like it belonged in a magazine spread. They're known for their strawberry shortcake and their cheesecake, and just eyeballing the case, I believe every word of that reputation. Place was busy when we came in, and clearly for good reason. My eyes were bigger than my stomach this visit, we walked out with nothing but a mental list of everything I want to come back for. Absolutely magical to be able to walk into this brightly lit bakery at 9pm on a weeknight to pick up a treat, and have a line. The staff moves fast and everyone was thrilled with their food. I got a chocolate canoli and it was decadent. The shell seemed like it had some granulated sugar under the chocolate which was a bit much, but I guess if you're opting for the chocolate covered canoli "a bit much" is the way to go. We came here as a recommendation of my friend who was local to the area. Mia's serves up lots of delicious sweets that are perfectly balanced and visually appealing. From cupcakes to pies cakes and more there are so much to choose from. There are also some savory options as well if you're not having a sweet tooth. My friend highly recommended the ham and cheese croissant, but she said they tend to run out fast when they have them. My favorite bites there so far are the tres leches cupcake and creme brûlée cupcake. The cupcakes are not overly sweet and they are the perfect size to have something sweet. The bakery has a counter service to grab and takeout, a drinks counter opposite of that and a back section for dining in. Service has always been good when we have been here. I've only been to the Smith Street location in Brooklyn (I believe the OG) so can only speak to that one, but Mia's has everything you could possibly desire from a dessert bakery. I've ordered custom cakes here for friend's birthdays, chocolate cake slice delivery when I was going THROUGH it at home, brought my parents here when they're visiting, popped in for casual date night drop ins as well on a Friday night "in", Mia's is just always the perfect vibe. I love how there's indoor table service as well as an outdoor patio option which are both relaxing and away from the bustle as there's often a long line when coming in to take something to go. Though it does move quickly. For staples - coffee, tea, and hot chocolate here have always been great. I personally love the cakes as they're always rich and hitting the exact spot I need them to and I've tried many of them (chocolate wins). I was glad to have had the chance yesterday when I needed to kill time before a friend's birthday party. It's your standard Italian bakery affair -- tons of butter cookies, rainbow cookies, and different pies and cakes. To be honest, everything looked amazing. Wanting to get a variety, I went with a small cookie tray that I could share at the party. The cookies melted in your mouth and were flavourful. I also went with a tea to warm myself up, but it wasn't anything remarkable (it's tea, after all). I love Mia's Bakery! I'm not really a sweets person, but this is the only place where I can order a Brooklyn Blackout slice and actually enjoy it. In fact, it's the only place I'll take a chance on ordering chocolate cake. I've always been a Junior's strawberry cheesecake lover, but the cheesecakes at Mia's definitely don't disappoint either. Every time I'm in the area, I make sure to stop in for a slice of Brooklyn Blackout cake and either strawberry or cherry cheesecake. I've even gone out of my way just to "coincidentally" drive by Mia's and grab my sweets! I've also tried the Chocolate Layer Cake, Red Velvet and Carrot Cupcakes, and a few pastries, but I tend to stick with my favorites, if it ain't broken, don't fix it! I've never sat inside to enjoy my desserts, but they do have a nice seating area. Ordering is always quick and efficient, I'm usually in and out within three minutes. It was a bit busy and one thing that I didn't love was that it wasn't clear that there was a line for being seated and that if we were just picking up, we could walk around them. I got a vintage heart shaped cake here for my baby shower and it was okay. I had to wait over 20 minutes to pick it up and had ordered it over a week in advance. I'm very pregnant so having to stand for so long was extremely uncomfortable. The piping on the cake was uneven and it lacked the little rose details that made me want it in the first place, and the shade of pink was much lighter than on the photo of the website so you could barely read the text. I got chocolate fudge flavor which tasted fine but the Brooklyn Blackout at Ladybird is leagues better and much more affordable. This cake would be worth it for $75, but definitely not the $120 I paid for it. read more
