It made for a beautiful table center piece and there was plenty of cake to go around for our 30 person event. Everyone especially loved the raspberry buttercream in between the layers! Last week for my birthday, my friend surprises me with a beautiful decadent red velvet cake from ladybird bakery. I have always been wanting to check out this establishment, but never got the chance so receiving that cake was one of the most pleasant birthday surprises. First off, I would say the cake was moist, well baked, not too soft, but also not too dry. The cream cheese frosting taste was absolutely delicious, the ratio of cake to frosting was absolutely perfect, if either one was a little more, it would be completely out of balance. I liked that the red velvet cake was appropriately red, did not have too much food coloring but just enough. The cake kept really well in the fridge for at least a week, which is a big win when you are buying cake because let's be real unless you were serving it at a huge party, It's hard to finish it in one sitting. Got a slice of cherry pie then ate it at Prospect Park, which was 10/10 banger best cherry pie i've ever had. Although I could tell they were a little rushed, they were still patient enough with me and waited for me to select something. I got the lemon cupcake (with lemon frosting + lemon filling). Frosting is a little sweet for me, but they also give quite a thick layer of it. The cupcake itself is not too dry, but not the most moist ever either. The inside lemon filling was delicious though! It was thick, goey, and really brought the entire cupcake together. I would say that it is a little pricey ($6) for basically a cupcake with some filling, hence the 4/5 stars, as I would expect something a little more special to command that price. NY man. We had a Ladybird cake during a friend get together and it was delicious! It was the lemon cake and had delicious buttercream icing. I was drooling and needed to get some of my own! My husband and I were finally able to get here and bummed that they become sold out on their various, especially smaller sizes, of their popular cakes. They are a bit pricey - a small, what looks like could be a single serving cake was $15, cupcakes are able $5 each and the larger/regular sized cakes may start around $45 and up. Perhaps I am messing up the cakes, but pretty sure we spent about $70+ on one of each - a lemon cake, a small red velvet and a chocolate cupcake. I thought about getting the strawberry cupcake, but saw that there was some long hair wrapped around like 2 or 3 of them. I did mention it to one of the girls, but they just took it off the tray. The treats were definitely good, but the chocolate cupcake was just fine for me (cake was moist and good, but I don't really like custard) and overall it was pretty expensive for just a regular day lol I would consider getting a cake here for a special occasion and would try again to get there earlier for a smaller version of the ones I like so it's more affordable. Ladybird Bakery is a place that we inadvertently went on a search to locate after we left New York Sports Club. We were walking down the street and saw a gentleman holding a cake box. I immediately wanted to know which bakery he got that from...a few minutes later I got my answer as we made it to the next block. People were outside of Ladybird Bakery and they kindly informed us that they were on line to place their orders. Ladybird Bakery is an intimately-sized establishment and so we patiently waited to get inside which took about 15 minutes. Due to COVID-19, Ladybird Bakery definitely requires that you wear your mask while inside the store and their rule is 3 people inside at one time. Once we got inside, i was hypnotized by the tantalizing aroma of baked goods. Staff behind the counter were pleasant and helpful as we asked various questions about the Ladybird Bakery items. Regular sized cupcakes are $2.25 and mini-cupcakes are $1.75 each. Ladybird Bakery has cookies, cakes, tarts ,etc....So many great looking desserts that it was difficult to make a decision-lol. We finally decided to purchase a regular sized Marble Cupcake (chocolate and vanilla cupcake w/ vanilla and chocolate frosting) and one regular sized Classic Vanilla Sprinkle Cupcake w/ chocolate frosting. Cupcakes placed neatly in the box, I eagerly anticipated tasting them later. Cupcakes - 5/5. Why? Because the cupcakes are a decent size, are not overly sweet + tasted like they are made with fresh organic ingredients. Ladybird Bakery's cupcakes are moist. We devoured those cupcakes-lol. Posting on behalf of my mom - We ordered a cake for a special holiday party and had someone drive the 45 mins to pick it up. Upon opening cake (in front of our guests), there was hair on it. Post plausibly from when the greeting was written on the cake with frosting, as I doubt it would be during the baking process. We've been buying ladybird cakes for more than 6 years now. Even after having moved out of Brooklyn, we're faithful to it. Called to speak to someone about this issue (twice) and was told someone would call back. It hasn't happened. It's our first time having issues with the bakery and to see how they manage these issues is disheartening. The cakes are always 10/10, best in the borough. This sole situation and lack of resolution makes it frustrating to want to go back. If we ever hear back from their management, will be sure to update this review. read more

Just had an encounter with the front end staff that has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Ordered a cake for pickup and requested a certain style from their design options and a certain color. When placing the order the person I spoke with didn't indicate that the type of cake being ordered wouldn't allow for the specific frosting in the design option chosen. In addition we asked for purple to be used in the flower colors. At no point during the ordering process did the staff say the design wouldn't be achievable given the type of cake ordered. If they had made this clear in the ordering process maybe a different cake would have been ordered or maybe some suggestions as to how to achieve the look we were going for would have been provided. Neither occurred. This morning we go in to pick up the cake and it is far from what was ordered. The flowers are blue not purple and the icing is not the smooth white sheet from the design option that was requested. The icing makes the cake look like it's for a 1 year old not a 50 year old. In the moment I was so disgusted by the cake presented that I didn't even think to take a picture. In the store we were repeatedly told by the initial front end staff that this type of cake with this type of icing can't be made they way requested yet sitting in the display was the same FLAVOR of cake with the same icing and a clean look which is what we requested. When this was brought to the attention of another front end staff she indicated that that cake was frozen.....so essentially it's not that you CAN'T do what was asked it's that you didn't do what was asked and now you're selling us a cake that lacks the beauty usually found in a ladybird cake. While discussing the cake the front end staff states that they can ADD more purple to the design. Wanting to know what she is seeing as purple since all I'm seeing is blue I ask the staff "can you point out what your saying is purple on this cake since you're going to ADD more?" She responds she isn't going to go into semantics with me and that she's trying to help me. WOW.....the idea that icing was being called purple and then I'm told that the staff won't go into semantics with me when I'm trying to understand what she is seeing blows my mind but you top it off by saying you're trying to help me. At no point was an apology provided or a statement that they messed up and wanted to make it right. The tone was that a favor was being done by them in trying to correct the cake that they had failed in an epic way. From the person taking the initial order, to this person who for me is now the face of Ladybird Bakery they failed and no attempt to acknowledge and apologize was made. They made an attempt to smooth out the icing and change the color of the flowers. Still an EPIC fail if we are talking about what I ordered and provided their own design pictures for versus what I received. Ladybird Bakery has changed and I'll say it hasn't been for the best. Having staff who are invested in your business is not an easy task. When staff think that they can speak to customers anyway you end up losing long time customers. She might be family, she might be a friend but either way she is bad for business. Without customers businesses fail... read more

First off when we walked in to LadyBird Bakery it smelled heavenly. They have a vast array of delicious looking desserts from pie, to cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. It was hard to decide and to pick just one dessert so we picked two. We ordered and took home one small 4 inch Strawberry Blossom cake and a 4 inch Brooklyn Blackout cake. The Strawberry Blossom cake was good. The Brooklyn Black out cake was even better. We all concluded that the Brooklyn Blackout cake was the stand out. It was absolutely delicious! The cake was moist, with just the right amount of chocolatey goodness inside from the chocolate pudding in between the layers of the cake and the chocolate buttercream. A chocolate lovers dream! We were kindly and warmly greeted by a female cashier. Service was quick, courteous, and efficient. She asked us if we wanted anything written on the cakes. We exchanged banter with her which made the whole interaction even more pleasant. I hope we will be able to visit this bakery again before they close as I have heard from a friend they are leaving in two months because of increasing rent. I only ever venture into Park Slope for one thing, which is Ladybird's famous Brooklyn Blackout Cake. Until 2 Red Hens reopens, this is where you must go to get that fix for the best chocolate cake known to man. The bakery itself is pretty unassuming located on a quiet street in the neighborhood. The Brooklyn Blackout is without a doubt an indulgent experience - moist chocolate cake, pudding and decadent frosting to top it off. You're going to pay a pretty penny too - $50 for a 10 inch cake (but worth it IMHO). I grabbed a banana walnut scone to go too but it was just meh (one note, not enough cinnamon or nutmeg). Staff is friendly and welcoming. Be warned, parking is scarce around the area but if you need that fix, you need it. read more

Truly a "mid" cake. Would have been 3 stars if they had done a cleaner job icing my son's 2nd birthday cake. He loves Toy Story and we asked for "2 Infinity & Beyond" and it came out looking like "Z infinity and beyond". Also the marble cake was dry and crumbly. The chocolate buttercream frosting inside was hard too and didn't taste like chocolate; it was flavorless and stale. Whole Foods has better cakes. Came here the morning before mother's day. I'm a first timer but I came here to buy my sister a mother's day treat. I purchased the blackout cake and a cupcake for my toddler. We got home took everything out fo the box to eat and began eating only my sister found a hair in her cake. We let it go and she just tried cutting that piece of the cake off but was turned off so didn't finish it. As my son Is grabbing his cupcake I notice a hair also on top of the icing. I tried scooping it off and found two more. I have included a photo of what the hairs looked like. I'm not sure why there were so many but it's not sanitary at all and during the pandemic makes it worse. I'm wondering how clean they are and if workers and bakers are wearing proper attire. I was thinking of calling the bakery however after being there and noticing a bad customer service moment from another customer I realize nothing will probably be done. When I was waiting my turn the woman two people in front of me went to pick up a cake she had spent 75 dollars on the baker or decorator accidentally wrote the wrong thing and scooped it off and tried to correct it and it looked awful and she tried to tell the girls working and they seemed to not care and not try to fix it and sent the customer on her way with a messed up expensive cake. Then once the customer left I stood there waiting to be taken care of while they just stood there talking about the customer as if I wasn't there and as if there wasn't a long line of guests waiting outside.
